Gerald Dean 'Jerry' Burnett
80, retired civil engineer

Funeral for Gerald Dean "Jerry" Burnett, 80, of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Home with the Rev. Dr. Mark Tolbert officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mr. Burnett died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Dec. 28, 1919, in Goodwater to John O. Burnett and Lucy Maude Blair Burnett. He graduated from Auburn University with a degree in civil engineering, served as a U.S. Army captain during World War II and was a member of the Decatur Optimist Club. He was the brother of the late George Burnett and Herschel Burnett.

He is survived by his wife, Vernaize "Penny" Burnett; one daughter, Christy Nickelson of Huntsville; one stepson, Wayne Smith of Sanford, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Ann Reed of Huntsville and Tillie Griffin of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; one brother, Wilkes Burnett of Rome, Ga.; one sister, Edith Newman of Sylacauga; two grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Josh Nickelson, Brandon Nickelson, Robert Smith, Mark Smith, Jerry Hanshaw and Russ Hanshaw.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Hospital in Memphis.

Ray Junior Frazier
68, retired welder

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Ray Junior Frazier, 68, of Athens was to be today at 2:30 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. William Robert Sharman III officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Frazier died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at his home. He was born July 4, 1931, in Lauderdale County to Oscar and Carrie Frazier. He was a retired welder. He was the brother of the late Burlon Frazier and Howard Frazier.

He is survived by his wife, Oma M. Frazier; one son, Mark S. Frazier of Anniston; two daughters, Vicki R. Bozeman and Christi G. Cagle, both of Athens; four brothers, Roy Frazier, Ralph Frazier, Earl Gilchrist and Junior Gilchrist, all of Florence; four sisters, Eva James of Ben Wheeler, Texas, Betty Roach of Tyler, Texas, Kathryn Darby and Judy Frazier, both of Florence; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be David Borden, Sanford Curtis, Ralph Frazier, Jimmy Bailey, Eddie Simons and Bobby King.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.

Ella A. Hill

TRINITY -- Funeral arrangements for Ella A. Hill, 85, of Moulton, who died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital, will be announced by Parkway Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at Mrs. Hill's home.

Evelyn C. Waddell
76, retired teacher

Funeral for Evelyn C. Waddell, 76, of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Central Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Craig Carlisle officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with Shelton Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the church. The body will be in the church one hour before the funeral.

Mrs. Waddell died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at her home. She was born Jan. 3, 1924, in Lauderdale County to Columbus Corum and Lizzie Cox Corum. She was a teacher for Decatur City Schools for 24 years, a homemaker and an avid gardener. She also was active in ministry at Central Park Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Women's Missionary Union and Girls Auxiliary and as a pastor's wife.

She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Elree T. Waddell; one son, Larry Waddell of Centre; one daughter, Debbie Landry of Decatur; two brothers, Villard Corum of Loretto, Tenn., and Alton Corum of Anderson; two sisters, Mary Nunley of Decatur and Levonia Corum of Florence.

Pallbearers will be Earl Marshall, Frank Bynum, Steve Stovall, David Whitten, Joe Richardson and Gene Lentz.

Theron Ottis Cartee
71, self-employed butcher
TRINITY -- Funeral for Theron Ottis Cartee, 71, of Moulton will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with Mike Nix officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 and Saturday morning from 9 to 11 at the funeral home.

Mr. Cartee died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at his home. He was born Jan. 25, 1929, in Lawrence County to L.H. "Lem" and Dennie Cartee. He was a retired owner, operator and self-employed butcher of Cartee Slaughter House. He was the brother of the late Adgar Cartee, the late Virgil Cartee, the late Bell Blaxton and the late Emaline Cox.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey Shankle Cartee; one son, Carlton Cartee of Moulton; one daughter, Judy Barkley of Collinwood, Tenn.; two brothers, Clifton Cartee of Moulton and Oneal Cartee of Trinity; three sisters, Birdie Purdy of Dawson Springs, Ky., Burneaze Lancaster of Moulton and Margie Warren of Trinity; two grandsons; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Floyd Shankle, James Terry, O.D. Bowling, Darrell Black, Junior Barkley and Chad Letson.

Randall Cooper
43, chicken catcher

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Randall Cooper, 43, of Vinemont was to be today at 3:30 p.m. at Moss Service Funeral Home.

Burial was to follow in Powell's Chapel Cemetery in Lacon.

Mr. Cooper died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at The University of Alabama Hospital at Birmingham. He was born March 18, 1957, in Cullman to Charles Lee and Bertha Laningham Cooper. He was a chicken catcher with Goldkist in Cullman.

He is survived by one brother, Bobby Ray Cooper of Cullman; and two sisters, Joy Cooper of Decatur and Nancy Surrett of Cullman.

Ella A. Hill
85, lunchroom worker

TRINITY -- Funeral for Ella A. Hill, 85, of Moulton was to be today at 2 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Agee officiating and Parkway Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be Mulligan Hill Cemetery. She will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

Mrs. Hill died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born June 25, 1914, in Orange County, Mo., to Thomas and Lucinda Hitt. She was a lunchroom worker at East Lawrence High School and Midway School.

She is survived by seven sons, Curtis E. Hill, Clifton Hill, Stephen R. Hill, Jimmy Hill and Roger Hill, all of Trinity, and Jerry Hill and Clyde Hill, both of Moulton; three daughters, Margie Laxson, Marie Clark Kent and Marvallen Dacus, all of Trinity; one sister, Christine Henderson of Moulton; 28 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and six great great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Steve Hill, Danny Hill, Doug Hill, Greg Hill, Michael Alred, Ramey Hill, Bobby Clark and Chris Lopp. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital or Diabetic Association.

Maurice Hinkle
57, electronics technician

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Maurice Hinkle, 57, of Cullman, was to be today at noon at Williams-McCracken Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie King and the Rev. Brad Doss officiating.

Burial was to be in Good Hope Cemetery.

Mr. Hinkle died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born April 23, 1943, in Cullman, to Denson and Edith Pruett Hinkle. He was an electronics technician with BellSouth. He was the brother of the late, Ann Lovett.

Mr. Hinkle is survived by his wife, Carolyn Hinkle; one son, Maurice "Buddy" Hinkle of Cullman; two daughters, Lisa Hinkle and Jannie Hinkle, both of Cullman; four brothers, Frank Hinkle of Danville, Alvin Hinkle of Cullman, Joel Hinkle of Los Angeles and Ozell Hinkle of Good Hope; four sisters, Avoline Gregory of Jones Chapel, Olene Deplachet, Kathleen Hershberger and Nelda Hutchison, all of Cullman; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Relay for Life or the American Cancer Society.

William David Jackson Jr.
72, former VFW commander

ATHENS -- Funeral for William David Jackson Jr., 72, of Athens will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Bill Reynolds officiating.

Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Jackson died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Oct. 22, 1927, in Giles County, Tenn., to William David and Bessie White Jackson. He was a Navy veteran and former commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Lodge in Cullman. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was the widower of Irene Jackson, the father of the late Linda Pugliese and the brother of Monroe White and Mildred Raby.

He is survived by one son, Gary Jackson of Garner, N.C.; one daughter, Deborah Sue Jackson of Panama City, Fla.; one sister, Gertrude Black of Minor Hill, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mike Jackson, Richard Felker, Jimmy Black, Jeff Jackson, A.C. Bailey and Donnie Stanford.

James Franklin Lewter

ATHENS -- Funeral arrangements for James Franklin Lewter, 78, of Athens, who died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital, will be announced by Spry Funeral Home.

Ulysses Smith
93, retired farmer

MOULTON -- Funeral for Ulysses Smith, 93, of Moulton will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Sanderson and the Rev. Tony Peppers officiating.

Burial will be in Jones Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at National Health Care in Moulton. He was born March 17, 1907, in Lawrence County to Charlie and Harriett Smith. He was a retired farmer, a member of Jones Chapel Congregational Chrisitian Church and the widower of Elsie Smith.

He is survived by two daughters, Bernice Long and Zulene McKay, both of Moulton; two brothers, Almon Smith and Guy Smith, both of Moulton; three sisters, Ora Dean Hill, Carrie Lang and Lela Terry, all of Moulton; one stpebrother, Clarence Blackmon of Moulton; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mike McKay, Steve Long, Zack Long, Tim Stewart, Jackie Smith and Mark Pearson.

Herchel Allen
76, retired farmer

MOULTON -- Funeral for Herchel Allen, 76, of Flat Rock will be Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with Hal Bigham and Joel Caudle officiating.

Burial will be in Fergerson Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Allen died Friday, April 28, 2000, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born June 12, 1923, in Lawrence County to Ulyess and Ludia Allen. He was a retired farmer and a member of New Zion Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Helen White Allen; one son, Dwight Allen of Hatton; one daughter, Pat Allen of Huntsville; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Randy Summers, Bobby White, Glenn Bradford, Sam Bradford, J.T. Masterson and James Thomas.

Debbie Anita Brown

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Debbie Anita Brown, 44, of Hartselle will be Sunday at 10 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Brown died Friday, April 28, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Nov. 15, 1955, in Griffin, Ga., to Opal and J.D. Duncan. She was the mother of the late Philip Clayton Brown and the sister of the late Dough Duncan.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne Brown; three sons, Charles Wolfe Brown of Flint, Mich., Roy Brown and James Brown, both of Hartselle; one daughter, Judy De-Anne Luker of Falkville; her mother, Opal Lawrence Duncan Parrish of Falkville; three brothers, Billy Duncan of Griffin, Gene Duncan of Hartselle and Frankie Duncan of Falkville; two sisters, Gail Dougherty and Judy Harmes, both of Decatur; and one grandchild.
