Funeral arrangements for Chester Jones, 37, of Courtland, who died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at home, will be announced by Reynolds Funeral Home.

Oscar Clinton Murphy
88, railroad track man

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Oscar Clinton Murphy, 88, of Falkville will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Archibald and the Rev. Kenneth Weldon officiating.

Burial will be in Falkville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Murphy died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Summerford Nursing Home. He was born March 9, 1912, in Morgan County to Franklin and Viola Elizabeth Brown Murphy. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Falkville, a lifetime member of the AFL-CIO and was a track man with L&N Railroad for 32 years.

He is survived by his wife, Lillie Murphy; one son, John Franklin Murphy of Decatur; two daughters, Judy Murphy Brown of Hartselle and Diane Murphy Blankenship of Decatur; two brothers, W.L. Murphy of Hartselle and Edward Murphy of Falkville; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Chris Brown, Clint Blankenship, Daniel Blankenship, Jeremy Woodall, A.J. Brown, Bobby Terry and Austin Terry.

Anna Belle Boster
80, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Anna Belle Boster, 80, of Hartselle will be Friday at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Hartselle with the Rev. Ron Wilson and the Rev. Brooks Barkley officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle City Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Boster died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born April 2, 1920, in Kentucky to William A. and Melia Elizabeth Board Blades. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Hartselle.

She is survived by her husband, Spaulding Davis "Sam" Boster; three sons, Donald R. Boster of Huntsville, Charles W. Boster of Center, Texas, and Kenneth L. Boster of Hartselle; five daughters, Dorothy J. Knight of Smyrna, Tenn., Juanita M. Blair of Cullman, Karen Nichols of Sheffield, Shirley K. Hallman and Terri L. Boster, both of Hartselle; one sister, Bessie Cook of Earlington, Ky.; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ken Clark, Charles Clemons, Robert Clemons, Dwight Cross, Jim Owen and Charles Quinn.

Memorials may be made to the Gideons, Alabama Baptist Children's Home or Alabama Sheriff's Boys and Girls Ranch.

Raymond C. Cantrell
91, retired farmer

Graveside service for Raymond C. Cantrell, 91, of Hillsboro will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Pullen officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Cantrell died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, in NHC Healthcare of Moulton. He was born June 3, 1908, in Lauderdale County. He was retired farmer, a World War II Army veteran and a member of Hillsboro United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ovilea Cantrell.

Memorials may be made to Hillsboro United Methodist Church, 9749 Lawrence County 217, Hillsboro, AL, 35643, or to Hospice of the Valley.

Russell 'Poochie' Hobbs Sr.
45, laborer

ATHENS -- Funeral for Russell Dean "Poochie" Hobbs, 45, of Athens will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Peoples Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Hillard Sr. officiating.

Burial will be in Thatch-Mann Cemetery.

Mr. Hobbs died Monday, May 8, 2000, at his home. He was born May 25, 1954, in Limestone County. He was a laborer for Sara Lee Kitchens of Athens.

He is survived by two sons, Russell Hobbs Jr. of Louisville, Ky., and Christopher Eugene Hobbs of Athens; two daughters, Rushebia Hobbs and Cortissa Hobbs, both of Louisville; his mother, Earline G. Hobbs of Athens; one sister, Shelby E. Hobbs of Tanner; and his grandmother, Maggie Ratliff of Athens; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Village View United Methodist Church.

Chester Jones

Funeral for Chester Jones, 37, of Courtland will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Wheeler Chapel Church with the Rev. Thomas Davis officiating.

Burial will be in Courtland Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Jones died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at his home. He was born Sept. 6, 1962, in Lawrence County to Clinton and Bessie L. Jones. He was a member of Wheeler Chapel Church.

He is survived by one son, Marco Jones of Huntsville; his mother; four brothers, Otis Dixon and McKinley Jones, both of Decatur, Clinton Jones Jr. and Clifford Jones, both of Courtland; and two sisters, DeLois Savage of Courtland and Velvet Ann Mitchell of Town Creek.

James Stanley Looney
77, retired truck driver

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for James Stanley Looney, 77, of Falkville will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Miracle Church of Jesus Christ on Lacon Mountain with the Rev. Ralph Henderson officiating.

Burial will be in Bell Springs Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home. The body will be at the church until the time of the service.

Mr. Looney died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 31, 1922, in Morgan County to Raymond S. and Rose May Nelson Looney. He was a member of the Pentecostal church and a deacon at Miracle Church of Jesus Christ. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a retired driver with Decatur Transit.

He is survived by his wife, Dona Marie Looney; one son, James L. Looney of Falkville; two daughters, Wilma L. Looney Watts and Carolyn Ann Looney McReath, both of Falkville; one half brother, Charles Wayne Looney of Decatur; five half sisters, Dorothy Barnett, Betty Joe McGregor, Linda Faye Qullin, Barbara Sue Looney and Wilma Ann Looney, all of Decatur; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Looney, Michael Looney, Stanley Looney, David Marlow, Allen McReath, Darrin Watts and Larry Don Watts.

Bertha Fletcher Mitchell
73, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Bertha Fletcher Mitchell, 73, of Athens will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Peoples Funeral Home with the Rev. Shirley Fletcher officiating.

Burial will be in Thatch-Mann Cemetery.

Mrs. Mitchell died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at her home. She was born Sept. 28, 1926, in Limestone County. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two brothers, James Earl Fletcher of Athens and David Fletcher of Milwaukee, Wis.; and one sister, Lorene Troupe of Milwaukee.

Sylvia Calvert Moore
83, former restaurant owner

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Sylvia Calvert Moore, 83, of Decatur will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mount Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Randon Jackson officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery with Moss Service Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Friday night from 5 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church Saturday one hour before service.

Mrs. Moore died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center of Decatur. She was born May 1, 1917, in Cullman County to James and Sarah Peak Calvert. She was a member of Mount Hope Baptist Church and the former owner of Highway Host Restaurant in Cullman.

She is survived by one daughter, Juanita Deffenbaugh of Decatur; two sisters, Clora Fulenwider and Jimmie V. Lott, both of Cullman; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Lott, Mike Lott, David Fulenwider, Dan Fulenwider, Arthur Leopard, Ralph Hendon and Roger Hendon.

Jimmie Lorene Thompson

ARDMORE -- Funeral for Jimmie Lorene Thompson, 82, of Ardmore, Tenn., was to be today at 2 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home with the Rev. Chester Jones officiating.

Burial was to be in Old Scrounge Cemetery.

Mrs. Thompson died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Limestone Health Facility. She was born May 7, 1918, in Morgan County. She was a homemaker and a member of Community Baptist Church. She was the widow of W.O. Thompson.

She is survived by one son, Paul E. Thompson of Austell, Ga.; one daughter, Sue Thompson McClure of Florence; one brother, Raymond L. Ferguson of Decatur; one sister, Clara Swinford of New Albany, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Edna Earl Lee White
87, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Edna Earl Lee White, 87, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with family members officiating.

Burial was to be in Limestone Cemetery off U.S. 72 West.

Mrs. White died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Athens Convalescent Center. She was born Aug. 26, 1912, in Limestone County to Olian and Mattie Adams Lee. She was a homemaker and a member of Oakland Church of Christ. She was the widow of William Arthur White, the mother of the late Barbara Elizabeth White and the sister of the late Ruth Woods.

She is survived by six sons, William Arvel White, Bobby Ray White, Ronald Lee White and Richard C. "Dickey" White, all of Athens, Stephen Barry White of Granbury, Texas, and Michael Anthony White of Wichita Falls, Texas; six daughters, Mattie Loree Armstrong of Newnan, Ga., Janice Dale Norton, Glenda Earl Stinnett and Carolyn Sue Hargrove, all of Athens, Joyce Lynett Hagood of Vinemont and Helen Diane Johnson of Prospect, Tenn.; 31 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and five step great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Minnie Sapphire Braddock

Funeral for Minnie Sapphire Braddock, 89, of Decatur will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Randon H. Jackson officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church.

Mrs. Braddock died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at Summerford Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 22, 1910, in Keokuk, Iowa, to William and Lula Fowler.

She was past president of the Women's Club in Arlington, Va., and past treasurer-secretary for Reserve Officers Association Ladies Club.

She is survived by one son William F. "Bill" Braddock of Decatur; one brother, John Fowler, of Montrose, Iowa; two sisters, Ruth Davis and Vida Curtis, both of Montrose, Iowa; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Program of the Mental Health Association, P.O. Box 1502, Decatur, AL 35609.

Martin Etienne
82, retired Murry Ohio supervisor

LORETTO, Tenn. -- Funeral for Martin Etienne, 82, of Loretto will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Loretto Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Cletus Plackal officiating.

Burial will be in Loretto Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery with Loretto Memorial Chapel directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home with a prayer service to begin at 7.

Mr. Etienne died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at his home. He was born Feb. 14, 1918, in Springerton, Ill., to Albert and Loretto Alma Lamar Etienne. He was a retired supervisor for Murry Ohio, a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II, a member of the Knights of Columbus and the first Boy Scout leader in Loretto.

He is survived by his wife, Blanch Riddle Etienne; six sons, David Etienne, Peter Etienne, Joseph Etienne and Andy Etienne, all of Loretto, John Martin Etienne Jr. of Decatur, and Brian Etienne of St. Joseph, Tenn.; four daughters, Elaine Etienne of Huntsville, and Mary Marks, Emily Gillespie and Celeste Brown, all of Loretto; one brother, Joseph Maurice Etienne of Evansville, Ind.; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Loretto Sacred Heart School.
