Annie Mae Gilchrist

Funeral for Annie Mae Gilchrist, 69, of Courtland, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church of Courtland with the Rev. O.C. Neloms officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Courtland Cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Gilchrist died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield. She was born May 26, 1930 in Lawrence County to Simon and Sadie Moore. She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, William Gilchrist; two sons, William Simon Gilchrist Jr. and Freddie Lee Gilchrist, both of Courtland; three daughters, Eliza Jean Gilchrist of Sacramento, Annie Nell Owens of Hillsboro and Linda G. Owens of Courtland; one sister, Novella Orr of Dayton; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Orr, James Robinson, Tom Hampton, Kenny Jones, Johnathan Orr and Terry Carter.

Chester Jones

Funeral for Chester Jones, 37, of Courtland was to be today at 1 p.m. at Wheeler Chapel Church with the Rev. Thomas Davis officiating.

Burial was to be in Courtland Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Jones died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at his home. He was born Sept. 6, 1962, in Lawrence County to Clinton and Bessie L. Jones. He was a member of Wheeler Chapel Church.

He is survived by one son, Marco Jones of Huntsville; his mother; four brothers, Otis Dixon and McKinley Jones, both of Decatur, Clinton Jones Jr. and Clifford Jones, both of Courtland; and two sisters, DeLois Savage of Courtland and Velvet Ann Mitchell of Town Creek.

Emmett Junior McNutt
62, self-employed floor sander

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Emmett Junior McNutt, 62, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Nelson Hollow Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. McNutt died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at his home. He was born June 14, 1937, in Morgan County to Arthur and Ruby Jane McNutt. He was a self-employed floor sander.

He is survived by two sons, Scotty McNutt and James McNutt, both of Somerville; two daughters, Candy York of Hartselle and Barbara Campbell of Danville; two brothers, Roy Woodard and Tony Woodard, both of Hartselle; three sisters, Jewel Ledlow, Faye Woodard and Judy Woodard, all of Hartselle; and five grandchildren.

Earsie R. Miller
74, general contractor

Graveside service for Earsie R. Miller, 74, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Burningtree Memorial Gardens with Brian Hawkins officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Miller died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Sept. 9, 1925, in Morgan County to W.D. Miller and Mary Cheatham Miller. He was a World War II veteran who was awarded the Bronze Star. He served in the Army, Air Force and National Guard. He was a member of American Legion Post 52 in Hartselle and American Legion Post 15 in Decatur. He was a member of the Church of Christ and was a general contractor.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Miller of Hartselle; one son, Earsie "Buddy" Miller of Vacaville, Calif.; three daughters, Sharlene Bolton of Hartselle, Rhonda Alfieri of Portage, Mich., and Julie Terry of Callaway, Fla.; one brother, B.W. Miller of Danville; three sisters, Marie Kelso of Danville, Bernice Milam of Decatur and Jnolva Miller of Danville; and six grandchildren.

Lester H. Taylor
77, catfish farm owner

MOULTON -- Funeral for Lester H. Taylor, 77, of Hatton was to be today at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. James C. Baccus and the Rev. Robert Sanderson officiating.

Burial was to be in Providence Cemetery.

Mr. Taylor died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born April 18, 1923, in Lawrence County to Wesley and Annie Taylor. He owned Taylor's Catfish Farm & Market. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Sanderson Chapel United Methodist Church, where he held leadership positions. He was employed at Reynolds Aluminum for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nellie Jeffreys Taylor; one son, Milton Taylor of Hatton; one daughter, Theresa Taylor Summers of Hatton; three sisters, Cecil Bryant and Ruby Scott, both of Town Creek, and Elizabeth Carruth of Muscle Shoals; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Neal Hall, Billy Ray Terry, Clay Carpenter, Charles Carruth, Lamar Scott and Charles Taylor.

Memorials may be made to the Sanderson Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Dewey Malcomb Thomas
76, retired ConAgra employee

ATHENS -- Funeral for Dewey Malcomb Thomas, 76, of Athens will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Doug McCurry and Ray Pettit officiating.

Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Thomas died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at his home. He was born Nov. 15, 1923, in Limestone County to Bennie and Lessie Thomas. He was a retired ConAgra employee and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was the brother of the late Marvin "Bud" Thomas and Louise Downs.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Thomas; one son, Wayne Thomas of Athens; one daughter, Diane Massey of Athens; one sister, Opal Legg of Athens; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Campbell, Ricky Adams, Bud VanHoozer, Troy Hardaway, David Springer, Byron Miller and Eric Roberts.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Athens-Limestone County.

Nellie Nelson Beard
85, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Nellie Nelson Beard, 85, of Danville will be today at 2 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Kennard Devaney and Jack Bailey officiating.

Burial will be in Mountain Springs Cemetery.

Mrs. Beard died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born July 31, 1914, in Lawrence County to Virgil and Lillie Wilkerson Nelson. She was a homemaker and a member of Falkville Church of Christ.

She is survived by one son, Clark Beard of Decatur; four daughters, Lillie Cagle of Hartselle, Loretta Pierce of Hernando, Fla., Audrey Williams of Decatur and Shirley Hensley of Danville; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Starlin Blankenship, James Devaney, Adam Hensley, Jackie Hensley, Marvin Millwood and Jeff Williams.

James Harold Christy
65, Air Force veteran

MACON, Ga. -- Memorial services for James Harold Christy, 65, of Macon, Ga., were Monday, May 1, at Immanuel Baptist Church with Ingleside Memorial Chapel directing.

Burial followed in Middle Georgia Memory Gardens.

Mr. Christy died Friday, April 28, 2000, in Georgia. He was born Dec. 30, 1934, in Lawrence County to Robert and Irene Wilson Christy. He was an Air Force veteran, a security guard for Reeves Construction and a member of Immanual Baptist Church where he taught an adult Sunday school class.

He is survived by his wife, Laverne H. Christy; four sons, Scott Christy and Eddie Christy, both of Moulton, Dean Gattie of Jones County, Ga., and David Gattie of Watkinsville, Ga.; two brothers, Don Christy and Wayne Christy, both of Moulton; one sister, Sandra Christy of Moulton; and 11 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, 129 Yukon Road, Macon, GA 31217.

Travis Edward Everett
66, retired insulator

HALEYVILLE -- Funeral for Travis Edward Everett, 66, of Addison will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home with Steve Fincher and Kenneth Sudduth officiating.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery No. 2.

Mr. Everett died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at his home. He was born Sept. 26, 1933, in Winston County. He was a retired insulator. He was the son of the late William Paul Everett.

He is survived by his wife, Velma Everett; three sons, Edward Paul Everett of Jasper, Wallace Andrew Everett of Indian Trail, N.C., and Scott Howard Everett of Jacksonville; his mother, Ostella Everett of Addison; three brothers, J.P. Everett and Odis Everett, both of Athens, and Robbie Everett of Addison; one sister, Christine Winkles of Addison; and seven grandchildren.

James Monroe Womble
70, Navy veteran

MOULTON -- James Monroe Womble, 70, of Moulton died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at his home.

Elliott Funeral Home handled arrangements.

He was born April 15, 1929, in Lauderdale County. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 31 years of service. He was the brother of the late Kathleen Cohen and the late Eugene Womble.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Womble; seven daughters, Noreen Riley and Dora Tucker, both of Albertville, Sandra Jackson of Cartersville, Ga., Melinda Varboncoeur of Crestview, Fla., Mary Jo Fundock of Binghamton, N.Y., Susan Mott of Hayes, Va., and Virginia Briggs of Lebanon, Mo.; one brother, Hershel Womble of Birmingham; three sisters, Idell Brackin of Town Creek, Maurine Huey of Columbia, S.C., and Earline Hall of Syracuse, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.

Belton Claudie Bonds
86, retired merchant

DOUBLE SPRINGS -- Funeral for Belton Claudie Bonds, 86, of Haleyville will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home with James Blanton officiating.

Burial will be in Winston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Bonds died Saturday, May 13, 2000, in Haleyville. He was born Sept. 1, 1913, in Franklin County. He was a retired merchant.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice Bonds; two daughters, Christine Ellenburg and Gerry Cole, both of Danville; one sister, Maudie Halcomb of Muscle Shoals; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

John Wesley Davis Sr.
81, retired farmer

MOULTON -- Funeral for John Wesley Davis Sr., 81, of Moulton will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with Larry Crumpton and Coy Morgan officiating.

Burial will be in Old Liberty Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Davis died Friday, May 12, 2000, at his home. He was born Aug. 10, 1918, in Lawrence County to Andrew and Pearl Davis. He was a retired farmer and attended New Liberty Church. He was the father of the late Robert Nathan Davis.

He is survived by one son, John Wesley Davis Jr. of Moulton; two daughters, Shelby Johnson of Chicago and Peggy Jo Berryman of Moulton; two brothers, Dennis Davis of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Prentis Davis of Daytona Beach, Fla.; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Wayne Martin, Donnie Martin, John Heath Davis, Wesley Prentis Davis, Eric Bradley Berryman and Burt Davis.

J.D. Kirby
53, self-employed mechanic

TRINITY -- Funeral for J.D. Kirby, 53, of Trinity will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with Billy Robershaw and Bunk Whitlock officiating.

Burial will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Kirby died Saturday, May 13, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Dec. 20, 1946, in Morgan County. He was a self-employed mechanic and the son of the late J.T. Kirby.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Diane Kirby; one son, Joshua Aaron Kirby of Trinity; three stepsons, Roger D. Nix of Hartselle and Michael C. Nix and Casey A. Nix, both of Moulton; two stepdaughters, Lisa D. Green of Trinity and Debbie Rutherford of Danville; his mother, Iva May Kirby of Trinity; seven brothers, I.Q. Kirby, Bennit Kirby, James Kirby, Ricky Kirby, Roger Kirby, Clint Kirby and Wayne Kirby, all of Trinity; three sisters, Vera Cannon of Town Creek and Delphine Warren and Merita Hardin, both of Trinity; and seven grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.
