CULLMAN -- Funeral for Jean L. Slack, 58, of Cullman will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Kevin McGrath officiating.

Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery with Williams-McCracken Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 9 at the funeral home; rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

Mrs. Slack died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born March 28, 1942, in Northbrook, Ill., to George W. and Marcella Nelson Lyon. She was the owner of Smith Lake Fishing Resort.

She is survived by her husband, William M. Slack; and one brother, James Lyon of Highwood, Ill.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cullman County.

Clara Mae Terry
79, homemaker

TRINITY -- Funeral for Clara Mae Terry, 79, of Moulton will be Tuesday 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with Junior Hale officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Terry died Saturday, May 13, 2000, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence. She was born Feb. 12, 1921, in Lawrence County to Arthur and Lillie Goodwin. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

Mrs. Terry is survived by her husband, Herchel Terry; three sons, Bobby Ray Terry of Bowling Brook, Ill., Ricky Joe Terry of Cicero, Ill., and Roy Lee Terry of Orland Hills, Ill.; two brothers, Roy Goodwin and W.J. Culver, both of Moulton; two sisters, Marie Brewer of Moulton and Christine Neimann of North Riverside, Ill.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Junior Bonds, Roger Jones, Marty Jones, Thomas Eugene Ray, L.J. Browning, M.A. Kirby and Dwight Thomas.

Gloria Whitten
62, Parisian saleswoman

Funeral for Gloria Whitten, 62, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Cardwell officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Whitten died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at her home. She was born Oct. 3, 1937, in Panola to Clarence Whitten Sr. and Emelyn Jones Whitten. She was employed by Parisian as a saleswoman.

She is survived by her mother of Decatur; one brother, Clarence Whitten Jr. of Decatur; and one sister, Ann Whitten of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Roy Cofield, Willis Hutchinson, Billy Gann, M.L. Robbins, Mel Maresh and Kenneth Bowling.

James 'J.B.' Tyson
76, industrial developer

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -- Memorial service for James "J.B." Tyson, 76, of Hartselle will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville with the Rev. Jack Bailey officiating.

Mr. Tyson died Saturday, May 13, 2000, in Decatur General Hospital. He was born Aug. 31, 1923, in Atlanta to John T. and Mary Dyer Tyson. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II and in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a retired industrial developer for the state.

He is survived by three sons, Michael Tyson of Lawrenceville, Ga., Craig Tyson of Danville and Randy Tyson of Birmingham; two sisters, Margaret Cronkhite of Douglasville and Catherine Carver of Woodstock, Ga.; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Barbara J. Ellison

Memorial service for Barbara J. Ellison, 62, of Decatur will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Brad Walker officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Ellison died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Oct. 22, 1937, in Wyandotte, Mich., to John Nathaniel Wright and Edna Irene Paige Wright.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 701 Oak. St., Decatur, AL 35601; the Comprehensive Cancer Center at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, 1824 Sixth Ave. S., Birmingham, AL 35294-3300; or the American Cancer Society.

T.J. Lewter
75, retired teacher

ARDMORE -- Funeral for T.J. Lewter, 75, of Elkmont will be today at 3 p.m. at Taylor-Ardmore Funeral Home with Billy McGregor and Greg Chandler officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Mr. Lewter died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Aug. 15, 1924, in Lincoln County, Tenn. He was an educator for 52 years and a World War II veteran. He was an elder at Holland's Gin Church of Christ, an active member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the Limestone County 911 board of directors and the Limestone County Hospital board of directors.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah H. Lewter; one son, Tim Lewter of Ardmore; one daughter, Beth Lewter Johnson of St. Louis; three brothers, Amos "Dick" Lewter of Ardmore, Kenneth Lewter of Louisville, Ky., and Gilbert Lewter of Miami; one sister, Kathleen Young of Louisville; and three grandchildren.

Thomas Wesley Moore
82, restaurant owner/operator

Memorial service for Thomas Wesley Moore, 82, of Athens will be Monday night at 7 at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Hoover officiating.

The family will receive friends Monday night from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Moore died Friday, May 19, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Sept. 26, 1917, in Tennessee to Thomas Henry Moore and Mary Cole Moore. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans as well as the Masonic Lodge in Chapel Hill, Tenn. He was a retired restaurant owner and operator.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Moore; three sons, Garry Moore of Monroe, Mich., James Moore of Romulus, Mich., and Richard Moore of Carleton, Mich.; one daughter, Katherine Moore of Athens; one brother, Dempsey Moore of Athens; one sister, Rebecca Dean of Chapel Hill; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Owens Volunteer Fire Department.

Tommy Lee Roden Jr.

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Tommy Lee Roden Jr., 25, of Clinton, Tenn., formerly of Morgan County, will be today at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Barbara Trussel and the Rev. Jimmy Morrow officiating.

Burial will be in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Mr. Roden died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, Tenn. He was born Jan. 6, 1975, in Marshall County to Tommy Lee Roden Sr. and Lavonda Jean Sweatmon Roden. He was a member of the Assembly of God and a service technician for Roto-Rooter.

He is survived by his wife, Katina Weeks Roden of Hillsboro; one daughter, Leeanna Faye Roden of Hillsboro; his mother, Lavonda Blackwell of Lacey's Spring; and one sister, Robin Watwood of Knoxville.

Pallbearers will be Tony Harris, Wade Moon, Mike Sweatmon, Lynn Sweatmon, Donald Estes, Robert Roden and David Roden.

Ted Scott Schmelter
48, truck driver

Memorial service for Ted Scott Schmelter, 48, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Lewis and the Rev. Duane Maas officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends after the service.

Mr. Schmelter died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born April 2, 1952, in Antigo, Wis., to Earl and Marjorie Lyman Schmelter. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Decatur Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a truck driver for Schneider Transportation. He was the brother of the late Linda Ruf.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Schmelter; three sons, Ted Scott Schmelter Jr. of Falkville, and Devin Schmelter and Skylar Schmelter, both of Decatur; his father and stepmother, Earl and Gloria Schmelter of Antigo; seven brothers, Nick Schmelter of Oscoda, Mich., Bob Stickney, Dave Stickney, Jerry Stickney, Ken Stickney and Marlin Stickney, all of Antigo, and Joe Stickney of Grafton, Wis.; seven sisters, Shelly Gehrke of Wausau, Wis., Karen Henke and Gloria Jean Stickney, both of Antigo, Ann Jahl of Appleton, Wis., Marilyn Prepster of Sheboygan, Wis., Gail Schoepke of Tigerton, Wis., and Theresa Steele of Athens; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hospice of the Valley or the American Cancer Society.

James 'Jim' Mason Shell
79, retired pipefitter

Funeral for James "Jim" Mason Shell, 79, of Danville will be today at 3 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. William Tepper officiating.

Burial will be Sunday in Cooper Cemetery in Appleton. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Shell died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born July 22, 1920, in Brewton to Andrew J. Shell and Carnie Wilson Shell. He was a retired pipefitter and a member of Reorganized Church of the Latter Day Saints and an honorary member of Neel United Methodist Church. He also was a member of Rising Sun Masonic Lodge No. 29 and the Cahaba Shrine Temple of Huntsville. He was the brother of the late Daisy Shell Wilkenson.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Baker Shell; two sons, James Ronald Shell of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Andrew Jasper Shell of Hartselle; one daughter, Sandra J. Blackwood of Danville; three brothers, Fred Shell of Gulf Shores, Willis Joseph Shell of Niceville, Fla., and Cecil Shell of Brewton; one sister, Gladys Shell Madden of Mobile; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Harry Templeton Warren
65, retired electrician, Champion International

Funeral for Harry Templeton Warren, 65, of Decatur will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Manly and the Rev. Dr. Mark Tolbert officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Warren died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at his home. He was born Feb. 13, 1935, in Bellvedere, Tenn., to William Warren and Tiny Templeton Warren. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and retired from Champion International, where he was an electrician.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy J. Warren; two sons, Randy Warren and Lance Warren, both of Decatur; one daughter, Jenny Smith of Decatur; one sister, Robbie Page of Birmingham; and six grandchildren.

John Julian Young
93, county agent

GADSDEN -- Funeral for John Julian Young, 93, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Crestwood Funeral Home with Dudley Prickett officiating.

Burial will be in Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends two hours before the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Young died Friday, May 19, 2000, at NHC Healthcare in Moulton. He was born Oct. 31, 1906, in Lawrence County to Arthur Bone Young and Viola Jackson Young. He served as the agriculture agent with the Auburn University Extension Service for 35 years in Etowah and Cherokee counties. He was active in Gideons International and the Baptist church, serving for 25 years as a Sunday school teacher and a deacon in the Centre First Baptist Church. He also was a member of Ashville First Baptist Church and Central Baptist Church in Decatur. He was the widower of Evelyn Cobb Young.

He is survived by one brother, Arthur Wayne Young of Decatur.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Gideons International.

Peggy Thomas Brock
45, nutritionist

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Peggy Thomas Brock, 45, of Decatur was to be today at 2 p.m. at Williams-McCracken Funeral Home with the Rev. Buddy Champion and the Rev. Lance Pate officiating.

Burial was to be in Mount Carmel Methodist Cemetery.

Mrs. Brock died Monday, May 22, 2000, at her home. She was born Dec. 12, 1954, in Cullman to William Oris Thomas and Rachel Seibenhener Thomas. She was a child nutritionist for Cullman County Schools.

She is survived by one daughter, Lori Brock of Cullman; one brother, W.O. Thomas III of Cullman; and four sisters, Susan Crick and Connie Wilhite, both of Cullman, and Pamala Blakenship and Jamie Boyle, both of Decatur.
