SHEFFIELD -- Funeral for Myrtle M. Bunnell, 79, of Town Creek will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Town Creek, with the Rev. Charles Richards and the Rev. Scott Moore officiating.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery with Spry Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bunnell died Monday, May 22, 2000, in Sheffield. She was born March 30, 1921, in Lawrence County. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Town Creek. She was the widow of Howard D. Bunnell.

She is survived by three sons, David Bunnell of Town Creek, Steve W. Bunnell of Knoxville and Patrick Bunnell of Rogersville; three daughters, Betty C. Bolan and Doris Scoggin, both of Town Creek, and Martha Sizemore of Mont Belvieu, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mike Carpenter, Chris Carpenter, LaShaun Brown, James Roberts, Jonathon Goe and Rodney Edmonsen.

Vada Pauline Garner
88, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Vada Pauline Garner, 88, of Anderson will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Anderson with the Rev. Mark Stokes officiating.

Burial will be in Corum Cemetery in Rogersville with Spry Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Garner died Monday, May 22, 2000, at her home. She was born April 19, 1912, in Marshall County. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Anderson and Eastern Star, Chapter 207 in Rogersville. She was the widow of Herman Garner.

She is survived by one son, Allen Garner of Anderson.

Constance Eversberg Ostner

HUNTSVILLE -- Graveside service for Constance Eversberg Ostner of Huntsville will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Coy Hallmark officiating and Laughlin Service Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ostner died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Brenham, Texas, to Eugene A. Eversberg and Edna Buck Eversberg. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Huntsville Hospital Foundation. She was a graduate of the University of Texas and an alumnus of Delta Delta Sorority. She also was active in numerous charitable organizations.

She is survived by her husband, Charles F. Ostner; one son, Charles F. Ostner Jr. of Orlando, Fla.; one daughter, Diane Ostner Hudson of Courtland; one brother, Eugene A. Eversberg Jr. of Conroe, Texas; and four granddaughters.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Habitat for Humanity.

John H. Sims Sr.
85, welding technician

BARTOW, Fla. -- Funeral for John H. Sims Sr., 85, of Bartow, formerly of Colbert County, was Saturday at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred J. Farmer and the Rev. Sammy V. Haag Jr., officiating.

Burial was in Wildwood Cemetery.

Mr. Sims died May 10, 2000, at Winter Haven Hospital. He was born July 1, 1914, in Leighton. He moved to Bartow 45 years ago. He was a Baptist and a retired maintenance and welding technician for Orange-Co of Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Lerline E. Sims; five sons, John Sims and Kenneth Sims, both of Lakeland, Fla., Doyle Sims and Glenn Sims, both of Bartow, and Randy Sims of Winter Haven, Fla.; four daughters, Barbara Hoover of Lake Alfred, Fla., Joanne Patterson of Lakeland, Linda Haag of Bartow and Judy Blackwell of Kingston, Ga.; one brother, Hobart Sims of Rockford, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

William 'Bud' Slaten

NASHVILLE -- Funeral arrangements for William C. "Bud" Slaten of Nashville, formerly of Morgan County, who died Monday, May 22, 2000, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn., will be announced by Woodbine Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Betty Lois Ferguson
69, homemaker
Graveside service for Betty Lois Ferguson, 69, of Decatur will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Burningtree Memorial Gardens with the Rev. George H. Sawyer officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Ferguson died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born June 28, 1930, in Coffee County, Tenn., to Vernie Jones and Ruby Stockston Jones. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Assembly of God. She was the sister of the late Buddy Jones.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Ferguson; two daughters, Linda Robinson of Decatur and Lisa Ferguson of Lafayette, La.; one brother, Wayne Jones of Brownsville, Texas; seven sisters, Judy Brown of Cookeville, Tenn., Kathy Hasty of Estill Springs, Tenn., Donna Tant and Doris Keele, both of Tullahoma, Tenn., Geneva Prosser of Taylor, Mich., Ruth Daniel of Charlotte, N.C., and Barbara Brackin of Winchester, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Mark Robinson, Jeff Green , Quinton Minson and Wayne Barker.

Walter Edward Leeman
85, Wolverine retiree

Funeral for Walter Edward Leeman, 85, of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with Gary Patton and Irving Himmell officiating.

Private Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Leeman died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at Sunbridge Rehabilitation Center of Decatur. He was born Sept. 20, 1914, in Morgan County to Hughey Edward Leeman and Beulah Hart Leeman. He was member of the Church of Christ and retired from Wolverine Tube after 30 years as its shipping department foreman.

He is survived by his wife, Vivolene Rushing Leeman; one son, Walter Rushing Leeman of Birmingham; one daughter, Jan Wicks of Decatur; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Mental Health Association Alzheimer's Support Group or to a favorite charity.

Vivian Timberlake Mock
73, retired store manager

Funeral for Vivian Timberlake Mock, 73, of Decatur will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Dunivant officiating.

Burial will be in Stevenson City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mock died today, May 25, 2000, at her home. She was born June 27, 1926, in Alabama to Charles Edward Timberlake and Henrietta Knox Timberlake. She was manager of Mock Electronics in Huntsville for 35 years and the valedictorian of Decatur High School's Class of 1944. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and First Baptist Church in Decatur.

She is survived by two daughters, Gloria Oliver and Barbara Compton, both of Decatur; one sister, Margaret Burleson of Decatur; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bo Oliver, Brad Meyer, Bill Oliver, Tommy Compton, Andy Compton and Jeff Keith.

Newton B. Powell
89, retired judge

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Newton B. Powell, 89, of Decatur will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church in Decatur with the Rev. Hal Noble and the Rev. Billy Stephenson officiating.

Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Hartselle with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Powell died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born July 16, 1910, in Morgan County to Jasper Newton Powell and Delia Clark Powell.

He was a retired circuit judge for the 8th Judicial Circuit Court. He served as county solicitor and was a circuit judge for 36 years. He was in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he served in the Judge Advocate General Corps. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Good Fellowship Sunday school class and taught the class for more than 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtis Newman Powell; one son, Joe Powell of Decatur; two brothers, Miles Powell of Decatur and Sherman Powell Sr. of Falkville; two sisters, Mary Lynch of Guntersville and Gracie Jones of Falkville; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, the American Heart Association or a favorite charity.

Arthur L. Shelton
95, retired farmer

TRINITY -- Funeral for Arthur L. Shelton, 95, of Trinity will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with Junior Hawkins and Gary Sartain officiating.

Burial will be in Morris Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Shelton died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born Sept. 9, 1904, in Lawrence County to George Shelton and Molly Shelton. He was a retired farmer, pastor and construction worker.

He is survived by two stepdaughters, Barbara Vassar of Hillsboro and Melissa Shaffer of Breman, Ga.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Great nephews will be pallbearers.

William C. 'Bud' Slaten
57, truck driver

NASHVILLE -- Funeral for William C. "Bud" Slaten, 57, of Nashville was to be today at 2 p.m. at Woodbine Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Thigpen officiating.

Burial was to be in Mapleview Cemetery in Smyrna, Tenn.

Mr. Slaten died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at his home. He was born June 12, 1942, in Hartselle to Dave Lindsey Slaten and Katherine Hawkins Slaten. He was a long-distance truck driver.

He is survived by two sons, Brad Slaten of Woodstock, Ga., and Andy Slaten of Tuscaloosa; one brother, Lewis Slaten of Addison; two sisters, Corene Laxson of Decatur and Pat Benally of Anniston; and five grandchildren.

Janie Beatrice 'Bea' Troupe
87, homemaker

Funeral for Janie Beatrice "Bea" Troupe, 87, of Courtland will be Saturday at noon at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Otis Neloms officiating.

Burial will be in Courtland Cemetery and Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Troupe died Monday, May 22, 2000, at Sunbridge Healthcare Center. She was born Feb. 9, 1913, in Lawrence County to Anderson Crayton and Marie Crayton. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church, where she served on the Mothers' Board. She was the widow of General Troupe.

She is survived by five nephews, James White of Hillsboro, Otis White of Courtland, Leonard White of Leighton, Jimmy White of Town Creek and Jessie White of Decatur.

Deacons of the church will be pallbearers.

Linda Chapman Brothers
50, homemaker
HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Linda Chapman Brothers, 50, of Huntsville will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Jackson Way Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Jordan and the Rev. John Frank Lindsey officiating.

Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens with Valhalla Memory Gardens and Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Brothers died Thursday, May 25, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Nov. 21, 1949, in West Point, Ga., to Farris Chapman and Blanche Chapman Hooks. She was a homemaker and a member of Jackson Way Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne Brothers; one son, Will Chapman Brothers of Huntsville; one daughter, Leah Brothers Woodruff of Madison; two brothers, Ray Chapman of Scottsboro and Larry Chapman of Decatur; one stepbrother, Beau Hooks of Saint Mary's, Ga; one stepsister, Gail Miller of Leeds; her mother of Scottsboro; and one granddaughter.
