Bertha Nell Hurst
78, retired merchant

MOULTON -- Funeral for Bertha Nell Hurst, 78, of Moulton will be Monday at 4 p.m. at Moulton Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Darryl Wood officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens with Elliott Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hurst died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born July 18, 1921, in Morgan County. She was a retired merchant, having owned Moulton Hardware Store with her late husband, Russell Laron "Bunk" Hurst. She was a member of Moulton Baptist Church, where she served on several building committees, including one for the sanctuary, during her 46-year membership.

She is survived by two sisters, Gene Vinson of Mobile and Leola Agee of Decatur.

Memorials may be made to Moulton Baptist Church Building to Serve fund or to a favorite charity.

Caldonia Kennedy
97, former school cook

ATHENS -- Funeral for Caldonia Langford "Miller" Kennedy, 97, of Athens will be today at 1 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with the Rev. Stanley Keifer officiating.

Burial will be in Cameron Cemetery in Madison County.

Mrs. Kennedy died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999, at Athens Convalescent Center. She was born July 18, 1902, in Madison County and had lived in Limestone County for the past 50 years. She was the oldest member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church and was a former lunchroom cook for the former Ripley Elementary School and Clements High School. She was the widow of Augusta "Guss" Kennedy and the mother of the late Edward Miller, June "Miller" Calahan and Monteen Kennedy Richardson.

She is survived by two sons, the Rev. Ellis Clifton Kennedy and Nelson Lee Kennedy, both of Athens; two daughters, Flossie Finley Camody of Athens and Louise Miller Lee of Gurley; 23 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Don Whitt, Allen Sutherland, John Kennedy, Jimmy Clark, Robert Clark Jr. and Steven Clark.

Bonnie Carter Kizzire
64, homemaker

GARDENDALE -- Funeral for Bonnie Carter Kizzire, 64, of Mount Olive was Saturday at Oakwood Memorial Gardendale Chapel with the Rev. Nat Cremer officiating.

Burial was in Oakwood Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Kizzire died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at Carraway Methodist Hospital. She was born Sept. 10, 1934, in Morgan County to Ernest and Belle Carter. She was a homemaker and a member of Pineywood Baptist Church. She was the sister of the late Donald Carter.

She is survived by her husband, Billy W. Kizzire; two sons, Dewayne Cooper and Steve Cooper, both of Gardendale; five daughters, Debra Winters, Melinda Downey, Terri Whitworth, Jeannie Whisenant and Katie Abel, all of Birmingham; her mother of Hartselle; four sisters, Wonnell Segars of Speake, Mary Lynch of Montgomery, Dorothy Ward of Hartselle and Laverne Foster of Decatur; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Horace W. Lane
81, Huyck Felt Co. retiree

ALICEVILLE -- Funeral for Horace Wilburn Lane, 81, of Aliceville will be today at 2 p.m. at Highway 14 Church of Christ with James Ivan Hall and Willis Logan officiating.

Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Steens, Miss., with Stabler-Robbins Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Lane died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. He was born March 10, 1918, in Morgan County to Walter and Patty Lane. He was retired from Huyck Felt Co. in Aliceville.

He is survived by his wife, Edna I. Lane; one son, Gene Lane of Reform; one daughter, Jackie Lowery of Reform; one brother, Harold Lane of Hartselle; three sisters, Annie Thelma Puckett of Hartselle, and Virgil "Tince" Laverne Jones and Rossie Eugas, both of Decatur; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Terry Lane, Phil Lane, Pat Lane, Greg Taylor, James Little and Jim Wilkerson. Members of The Fox Hunters Club, and nurses, doctors and staff of Veterans Administration Medical Center will be honorary pallbearers.

Martin McEntire
68, farmer

Funeral for Martin Norman "Sonny" McEntire, 68, of Decatur will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Hugh Bohlin and the Rev. Marty Steelmon officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. McEntire died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born June 20, 1931, in Morgan County. He was a farmer, a member and deacon of Cedar Ridge Baptist Church, and a member of the Morgan County Baptist Disaster Relief Team. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah McEntire; one son, Marty McEntire of Decatur; one daughter, Teresa McEntire Pendleton of Decatur; his mother, Ruby Hale of Decatur; one sister, Marteen Blankenship of Decatur; and one grandchild.

Deacons of Cedar Ridge Baptist Church will be pallbearers.

Members of Morgan County Baptist Disaster Relief Team will be honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Morgan County Disaster Relief Team, Cedar Ridge Baptist Church or Cedar Ridge Baptist Foreign Mission Board.

Ray Thompson
65, retired real-estate broker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Ray Thompson, 65, of Hartselle will be Monday at 1 p.m. at East Highland Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter Blackmon, the Rev. Joe Hoover and the Rev. Calvin Inman officiating.

Military Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Thompson died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999, at his home. He was born Oct. 6, 1933, in Lawrence County to Left and Ida Lou Holland Thompson. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service and was a retired real-estate broker.

He is survived by his wife, Edna Kyle Thompson; three sons, Alan Ray Thompson and Tommy Gene Thompson, both of Hartselle, and Raymond Kyle Thompson of Nashville; one daughter, Valerie Gail Stephenson of Hartselle; two brothers, Marvin Thompson of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Gene Thompson of Albertville; three sisters, Omega Singleton of Florence, Elrena Brackin of Town Creek and Sadie Coffey of Decatur; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley or to cancer research.

Billy Thrasher
61, maintenance worker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Billy Winford Thrasher, 61, of Town Creek will be today at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Edgil and the Rev. Greg Standridge officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens.

Mr. Thrasher died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999, at Shoals Medical Center. He was born Feb. 8, 1938, in Lawrence County to Bill and Bessie Thrasher. He attended Freewill Baptist Church and was a maintenance worker at Occidental Chemical Corp. in Muscle Shoals.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Thrasher; one son, Anthony "Tony" Thrasher of Decatur; two daughters, Myra Borden of Mount Hope and Tessie McGlaughn of Alpharetta, Ga.; two brothers, Ray Thrasher and Dewey Thrasher, both of Hatton; five sisters, Barbara Hawkins of Warrior, Wanize Vest of Decatur, Louise Cole of Mount Hope, Faye Nichols of Hatton and Linda Nell Latham of Trinity; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Andy Kreiger, Ricky Sutton, Brex Anderton, Jerry Jenkins, Frank King and Elvin Dutton.

Tommie Lou Cooper
Memorial service for Tommie Lou Cooper, 90, of Decatur will be held in Georgia at a time to be announced.

Shelton Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.

Mrs. Cooper died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at her home. She was born Jan. 6, 1909, in Coweta County, Ga., to Mollie Hicks Neill and Samuel Cason Neill.

She is survived by two sons, James A. Cooper of Decatur and Charles Terry Cooper of Marietta, Ga.; two daughters, Carol Modrall of Milton, Tenn., and Judy Cooper of Marietta; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Wesley Acres Methodist Retirement Home in Decatur.

Lucy Elizabeth Craig Hall

ATHENS -- Funeral arrangements for Lucy Elizabeth Craig Hall, 89, of Athens, who died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, at Athens-Limestone Hospital, will be announced by Spry Funeral Home.

Jonathan Dale Haussler

Funeral for Jonathan Dale Hauss-ler, 24, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Cantrell officiating.

Private graveside service will be at Burningtree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Haussler died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at his home. He was born Feb. 6, 1975, in Huntsville to Jonathan B. Haussler and Sara Fields Haussler. He attended Brewer High School and Southern Union State Community College.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Jonathan and Delores Haussler of Decatur; and two sisters, Christy Haussler of Greenville, S.C., and Tammy Cantrell of Swannanoa, N.C.
