William Luther 'Bill' Mayfield
82, retired Decatur firefighter

Funeral for William Luther "Bill" Mayfield, 82, of Decatur was to be today at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Bud Mayfield officiating.

Burial was to be in Bishop Cemetery.

Mr. Mayfield died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Aug. 12, 1917, in Lawrence County to Bud Mayfield and Mary McDaniels Mayfield. He was a retired assistant fire chief from the Decatur Fire Department, where he worked for 38 years. He was the widower of Lois Marie Mayfield.

He is survived by three sons, Noel Mayfield and Gary Mayfield, both of Decatur, and Michael Mayfield of Greenville, S.C.; three daughters, Beverly McNabb of Decatur, Judy Bell of Kissimmee, Fla., and Rita Wallace of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, Johnny Mayfield of Falkville; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Decatur Fire and Rescue employees were to be pallbearers.

Laura Breeding Yates
90, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Graveside service for Laura Breeding Yates, 90, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hartselle City Cemetery with the Rev. Brady McCullough officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Yates died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born March 22, 1910, in Morgan County to Alonzo F. Breeding and Jane Humphrey Breeding. She was a homemaker, the widow of Harvey Yates and mother of the late Velt Blankenship.

She is survived by one son, James T. Walker of Lincoln, Ill.; two daughters, Jean Johnson of Hartselle and Barbara Sewell of Stone Mountain, Ga.; 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Johnson, Jacky Johnson, Tim Johnson, Jimmy Blankenship, Tony Ransom and Tommy Hardin.

Basil L. Collins
86, Decatur resident

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Basil L. Collins, 86, of Decatur will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Bowden and the Rev. Donald Stephens officiating.

Burial will be in Faith Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Collins died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born May 11, 1914, in Giles County, Tenn. He was retired from the Illinois school system. He was the widower of Eula M. "Marie" Collins.

He is survived by one brother, Dean Collins of Decatur; two sisters, Lela Green of Cedar Lake, Ind. and Frances Smith of Winchester, Tenn.; one half brother, Lonnie Lewis Collins of Lacey's Spring; and two half sisters, Rachel Yates and Georgia Shed, both of Cullman.

Vernon Harkrider
92, Army veteran

Funeral for Vernon Harkrider, 92, of Alabaster will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Feltman officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Harkrider died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center. He was born Oct. 5, 1907, in Flannigan, Ill., to Louis Harkrider and Hazel Harkrider. He was retired from Interstate Brands Inc. after 47 years and was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was the brother of the late Les Harkrider, Willis Harkrider and Mary Scholobom.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Wallace Harkrider.

Members of the U.S. Army will be pallbearers.

Florein Johnson
89, homemaker

Funeral for Florein Johnson, 89, of Danville will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. E. L. Hardin officiating.

Burial will be Johnson Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Johnson died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born April 24, 1911, in Morgan County to Willie Williams and Augusta Williams. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Ralph Johnson of Danville; two sisters, Lola Mae Johnson of Birmingham and Zola Standridge of Moulton; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Ina Beatrice McCaghren
75, retired lunchroom attendant

Funeral for Ina Beatrice McCaghren, 75, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Waymon Fike officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. McCaghren died Friday, June 2, 2000, at her home. She was born April 13, 1925, in Leona, Tenn., to Wiley Lemay and Lillie Pugh Lemay. She was a retired school lunchroom attendant and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She was the widow of Hollis A. McCaghren.

She is survived by one son, David L. McCaghren of Hartselle; one sister, Dorothy Kilpatrick of St. Cloud, Fla.; and one granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be Benny Burns, Dennis Vinson, Mac Burns, Richard Baker, Bill Jones, and Ed Groves.

Memorials may be made to the Ina B. McCaghren Memorial Fund, c/o David L. McCaghren, 1161 Community Lane, Hartselle, AL 35640.

Vernon 'Pete' Powers
66, retired mechanic

ATHENS -- Funeral for Vernon "Pete" Powers, 66, of Harvest will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Alton Downs officiating.

Burial will be in Ford's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Powers died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at his home. He was born Aug. 25, 1933, in Limestone County. He was a retired mechanic.

He is survived by one son, Jacky Powers of Chapel Hill, Tenn.; two daughters, Connie Brown of Athens and Bessie Lerner of Bay Ford, N.C.; four brothers, Calvin Powers and D.C. Powers, both of Athens, Bud Powers of Toney and Jim Powers of Atmore; one sister, Shirley Mewbourn of Athens; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Pallbearers will be Floyd Moss, Jacky Powers, John Patterson, Jimmy Cowan, David Powers and Doug Powers.

Jacqueline Pruett
68, homemaker

Graveside service for Jacqueline Pruett, 68, of Decatur will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Mount Vernon Cemetery in Fayette with Roselawn Funeral home directing.

Mrs. Pruett died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at her home. She was born Aug. 21, 1931, in Abbeville to Bruce F. Harkins and Mary Bradford Harkins. She was a homemaker, a graduate of The University of Alabama and taught in Birmingham City Schools for one year.

She is survived by one son, Samuel E. Pruett III of Decatur; and one brother, Bruce Fletcher Harkins Jr. of Decatur.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley or American Cancer Society.

Winston Keith Taylor
51, horticulturist

ATHENS -- Military graveside service for Winston Keith Taylor, 51, of Athens, who also lived in Pulaski, Tenn., will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery in Athens with the Rev. Tim Keenum officiating and Limestone Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Taylor died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Veterans Hospital in Nashville. He was born Nov. 3, 1948, in Pensacola, Fla., to Gene Taylor and Mazelle Taylor. A Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, he worked as a farmer and horticulturist.

He is survived by one son, Michael Shane Taylor of Athens; one daughter, Kelly Dawn Hooten of Fresno, Calif.; his parents of Athens; two brothers, Shawn Scott Taylor of Athens and Charles David Taylor of Santa Clara, Calif.; one sister, Anita Rozelle Webb of Anaheim, Calif.; and one grandson.

Members of the Military Honor Guard will be pallbearers.

Margaret Corzine Gwynn
90, retired secretary

Memorial service for Margaret Corzine Gwynn, 90, of Decatur will be Monday at 2 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Rich Webster officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Miss Gwynn died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation of Decatur. She was born Dec. 6, 1909, in Concord, N.C., to Robert C. Corzine and Annie C. Young Corzine. She was a retired secretary.

She is survived by one brother, Robert Corzine of Concord; and one stepson, Bob Gwynn of Panama Beach, Fla.

Brenda Lampkin Orr
56, homemaker

Funeral for Brenda Lampkin Orr, 56, of Hartselle will be Tuesday at noon at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Hartselle with Tex Gray officiating.

Burial will be in Campground Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be at Kingdom Hall one hour before the service.

Mrs. Orr died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born June 5, 1943, in Morgan County to Lewis Lampkin and Madgie Harraway Lampkin. She was a homemaker and attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Orr; two sons, Hilton Chatman of Huntsville and Fred Chatman of Hartselle; two daughters, Hilma Chatman and Karen "Tina" Williams, both of Hartselle; one stepdaughter, Kimette Jackson of Hartselle; two brothers, Lewis Lampkin and Hilton Lampkin, both of Hartselle; two sisters, Carolyn Orr and Christine Allen, both of Hartselle; and six grandchildren.

Tristan Hoyt Sherrill
Infant

Graveside service for infant Tristan Hoyt Sherrill of Decatur will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at East Lawrence Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Waymon Fike officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.

He died Saturday, June 3, 2000, the day of his birth, at Parkway Medical Center. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

He is survived by his parents, Erik and Pam Sherrill of Decatur; one brother, Trevor Sherrill of Decatur; his grandparents, Charles and Sadie Long of Danville, Eddie Sherrill of Decatur and Kathy Sherrill of Huntsville; and his great-grandparents, Mary K. Sherrill of Decatur, Kenneth and Kathleen Thomas of Moulton, and Mattie Lou Long of Birmingham.

Farrell G. Tucker

Funeral arrangements for Farrell G. Tucker, 77, of Decatur, who died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital, will be announced by Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Malcolm Robinson Wise

ATHENS -- Funeral for Malcolm Robinson Wise, 69, of Athens will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Pat Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Wise died Friday, June 2, 2000, at his home. He was born March 15, 1931, in Limestone County. He was an electrician Wilson Tate Electric, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Walnut Grove United Methodist Church. He was the widower of Emma Jean Wise.

He is survived by one son, Malcolm Wise Jr. of Huntsville; one daughter, Peggy Harper of Madison; two brothers, Lester Wise and Robert Wise, both of Lester; one sister, Mamie Smith of Pulaski, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Grandsons and nephews will be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.
