Walter Heath Buchanan
80, former Ardmore mayor

ARDMORE -- Funeral for Walter Heath Buchanan, 80, of Ardmore will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Taylor-Ardmore Funeral Home with Tony Boyles and Paul Clutts officiating.

Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Buchanan died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born July 12, 1919, in Birmingham. He was a former mayor of Ardmore, a councilman and chief inspector of voter polls. He was a World War II Navy veteran, a longtime resident of Limestone County and a member of Wooley Springs Baptist Church. He was a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge No. 24 in Ardmore, Tenn., where he received the 50-year membership award. He was the widower of Clura Lee Buchanan.

He is survived by two sons, Charles H. Buchanan of Ardmore and Phillip B. Buchanan of Cleveland, Okla.; one sister, Rosa Lee Singleton of Fultondale; three half sisters, Evelyn Hogan of Decatur, Gladys Buchanan of Cullman and Jane Godsey of Roxboro, N.C.; and four grandchildren.

Ronald Austin Drawdy
45, engineer

ATHENS -- Funeral for Ronald Austin Drawdy, 45, of Minor Hill, Tenn., will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home in Athens with Dwight Ridinger officiating.

Burial will be at Minor Hill Cemetery in Minor Hill. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Drawdy died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital in Athens. He was born June 4, 1955, in Blackshear, Ga. He was an engineer.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Drawdy; one son, Jay Drawdy of Hazlehurst, Ga.; one stepson David Shelby of Austin, Texas; one stepdaughter, Kimberly McNutt of Toney; his mother, Nola Lee of Blackshear; three brothers, Edward Drawdy of Patterson, Ga., and Daniel Drawdy and Joe Drawdy, both of Blackshear; five sisters, Jo Ann Davis of Hilliard, Fla., Nola Carter and Glenda Lee, both of Blackshear, Ellie Loudermilk of Perry, Ga., and Dr. Linda Hayden of Griffin, Ga.; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Thomas Richard Ennis

ATHENS -- Funeral arrangements for Thomas Richard Ennis, 79, of Athens, who died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at his home, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at McConnell Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 5 to 9 at the funeral home. Other arrangements will be announced by the funeral home.

The Rev. Jesse Higginbotham
70, retired minister

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for the Rev. Jesse Higginbotham, 70, of Falkville will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Lebanon Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Penn, Joel Higginbotham, David Higginbotham, John Higginbotham and Paul Higginbotham officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Higginbotham died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at his home. He was born Nov. 12, 1929, in Jefferson County to Paul Lafayette Higginbotham and Mary Bell Hicks Higginbotham. He retired as a minister after 41 years of service. He was minister at Enon Baptist Church in Atmore, First Baptist Church in Destin, Fla., First Baptist Church in Samson, Providence Baptist Church in Daleville and Lebanon Baptist Church in Falkville. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Delora Smith Higginbotham; four sons, David Higginbotham of Falkville, John Higginbotham of Hartselle, Paul Higginbotham of Burleson, Texas, and Joel Higginbotham of Birmingham; one brother, Jimmy Higginbotham of Fayetteville, N.C.; five sisters, Pauline Walker of Valparaiso, Fla., and Virginia Kormoulis, Mabel Wren, Peggy Smith and Judy Key, all of Birmingham; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Don Crow, Bill Dobbs, Eugene Speegle, Jim Aycock, Bobby Rhoads and Mike Anders.

Deacons at Lebanon Baptist Church will be honorary pallbearers.

Lonnie Ann Little
51, homemaker

Funeral for Lonnie Anne Little, 51, of Decatur will be Tuesday at noon at St. Luke Mission Baptist Church in Athens with Anthony Stewart officiating.

Burial will be in Sterrs Cemetery in Decatur with Sharpley Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Miss Little died Thursday, June 8, 2000, at home. She was born Nov. 16, 1948, in Madison County to Robert Little and Pearl Little. She was homemaker.

She is survived by five sons, Gabriel Little, Tyrone Little, T.J. Little, Terry Little and William Henry Little, all of Decatur; four daughters, Elois Leslie of Madison, and Daphine Little, Beverly Little and Linda Robinson, all of Decatur; two sisters, Bernice Smith of Tanner and Betty White of Athens; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Clinton Davenport, Willie Smith, Sam Lesley, Jimmy Woller, Michael Peebles and Ricki Peebles.

Charity Leigh Matthews
Infant

Funeral for infant Charity Leigh Matthews of Decatur was to be today at 4 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church with Walter Schmidt officiating.

Burial was to be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens with Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

The infant died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital East. She was born March 16, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was the granddaughter of the late Joanne Matson.

She is survived by her parents, Tim and Cynde Matthews of Decatur; one brother, Drew Matthews of Decatur; four sisters, Jana Matthews, Holly Matthews, Carol Anne Matthews and Abigail Matthews, all of Decatur; her grandparents, Ralph and Anne Matthews of Decatur and Dave and Ileen Matson of Madison, Wis.; and her great-grandparents, Mildred Matthews and Beulah Dietz, both of Decatur.

Clag Evans 'Buddy' Winton
85, businessman, farmer

Graveside service for Clag Evans "Buddy" Winton, 85, of Falkville, formerly of Decatur, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Danny Pitts officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Winton died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born July 24, 1914, in Somerville to Newman Evans Winton and Novel Waugh Winton. He retired as a farmer and co-owner of White Way Pure Milk Co.

He is survived by his wife, Drusilla Winton; two sons, J.N. Winton of Hartselle and Douglas Winton; one daughter, Martha Rakestraw of Falkville; one brother, William Winton of Decatur; one sister, Nell Pearson of Decatur; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Claudine Bailey
67, motel worker

Funeral for Claudine Bailey, 67, of Decatur will be Wednesday at noon at St. Peter's Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Booker officiating.

Burial will be in Sykes Cemetery with Sharpley Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Ms. Bailey died Friday, June 9, 2000, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born June 23, 1932, in Decatur. She worked at Nitefall Motel and was a member of St. Peter's Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, Donald Bailey; three daughters, Edwina Beason of Hartselle and Judy Wallace and Joann Renfroe, both of Decatur; one brother, William Bailey of Cleveland; two sisters, Florence Cumming and Dorothy Harris, both of Chicago; and nine grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Lee Barker, Kenneth Ross, Wayne Mosley, Sebastin Matthews, Herschel Mitchell and Richard Rather.

Jerome Bruce Durham
59, line worker

CULLMAN - Funeral for Jerome Bruce Durham, 59, of Cullman will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Yates officiating.

Burial will be in Etha Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Durham died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at Woodland Medical Center. He was born Jan. 6, 1941, in Cullman County to Bruce Clifton Durham and Elvis Olene Taylor Durham. He was a line worker at Golden Rod Broiler Inc. for 25 years.

He is survived by two brothers, Sherman Edmond Durham of Huntsville and Billy Howard Durham of Vinemont; and three sisters, Sue Durham Gilland of Vinemont, Glinda Durham Eason of Arab and Barbara Ann Thompson of Dayton, Ohio.

Thomas Richard Ennis
79, retired heavy equipment operator

ATHENS - Funeral for Thomas Richard Ennis, 79, of Athens will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Jerry Knight officiating.

Burial will be in Madison City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Ennis died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at home. He was born April 1, 1921, in Limestone County. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Tennessee Valley Authority. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II who served in Europe.

He is survived by two sons, Thomas "Larry" Ennis of Decatur and Richard Shane Ennis of Athens; five daughters, Ginger Holzer and Roseanne Dodd, both of Hartselle, Patra Ennis, Kim Alred and Susan Aldridge, all of Decatur; three brothers, Red Ennis, Clyde Ennis and Dick Ennis, all of Athens; three sisters, Inez Springer and Hazel Blizzard, both of Athens, and Helen Lowery of Madison; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Richard W. Ennis, Patrick Holzer, Marc Holzer, Adam Holzer, Eric Aldridge and Joey Ennis.

Collis Lee
78, retired custodian

Funeral for Collis Lee, 78, of Moulton will be Wednesday at noon at Freeman Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. H.N. Snodgrass officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Community Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before services.

Mr. Lee died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at home.

He was born May 15, 1922, to Jim Lee and Lillie McDaniel Lee. He retired as a custodian at the Lawrence County Courthouse after 30 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Freeman Tabernacle Baptist Church.

He is survived by one daughter, Ola Mae Echols of Moulton; one sister, Lucy Pruitt of Louisville, Ky.; and two granddaughters.

Pallbearers will be Melvin Lee, Clayton Lee, Nathaniel Lee, Ezell Gadis, Bill Lee and John Allen Lee.

Donald U. Lindsey

Funeral for Donald U. Lindsey, 62, of Danville will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. C.G. Redding officiating.

Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Lindsey died Monday, June 12, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born April 23, 1938, in Lawrence County.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lindsey; three sons, Keith Lindsey of Danville, Kim Lindsey of Gulf Shores and Barry Lindsey of Trinity; one brother, Kenneth Lindsey of Decatur; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Hoyt McCaghren, Tom Owen, Steve Lindsey, Lowell Livingston, Greg Terry and Randall Terry.

Judy Mauffray
59, auto worker

Funeral for Judy Mauffray, 59, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Slack officiating.

Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mauffray died Monday, June 12, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Sept. 15, 1940 in Morgan County to Truman Lindsey and Effie Ola Penn Lindsey. She was a 1958 graduate of Danville High School and a production worker for General Motors.

She is survived by one son, Donald R. Mauffray of Decatur; one brother, James K. Lindsey of Danville; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brian Steele, Phil Dalton, Rex Lindsey, Hoyt Powell Jr., Donnie Cowan and Winford Turner.
