YPSILANTI, Mich. - Funeral arrangements for Gerald Ricard Messer, 50, of Houston, who died Monday, June 12, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital, will be announced by Stark Funeral Service. Local arrangements are being handled by Parkway Funeral Home.

He was born Sept. 9, 1949, in Ypsilanti to Forster Messer and Lois Messer. He was a retired truck driver, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by one son, Matthew R. Messer of Decatur; two brothers, David Messer of Bedford, Mich., and Paul Messer of Ypsilanti; one sister, Anita Messer Kline of Las Vegas; and his mother of Ypsilanti.

Julia Arlela Wimbs
87, vegetable separator

CULLMAN - Funeral for Julia Arlela Wimbs, 87, of Cullman was to be today at 2 p.m. at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Vincent officiating.

Burial was to be in Welcome Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Wimbs died Monday, June 12, 2000, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born April 26, 1913, in Morgan County to Amos Matthew Holcomb and Timpie Jane Jones Holcomb. She was a vegetable separator at King Farm and the widow of John Russell Wimbs.

She is survived by four sons, James Bentley Wimbs of Somerville, Ferrell R. Wimbs of Eva, Travis H. Wimbs of Cullman and Neville A. Wimbs of Kansas; six daughters, Margaret Bell of Falkville, Velma Creel of Cullman, Thelma Webb of Hartselle, Luda Taylor of Eva, Norine Ray of Moulton and Vivian Lynn of Gulf Shores; two brothers, Thomas Holcomb and Arvil Holcomb, both of Baileyton; one sister, Martha Davis of Eva; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Clag Evans 'Buddy' Winton
85, retired farmer, businessman

Graveside service for Clag Evans "Buddy" Winton, 85, of Falkville, formerly of Decatur, was to be today at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Danny Pitts officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Winton died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at Hartselle Medical Center.

He was born July 24, 1914, in Somerville to Newman Evans Winton and Novel Waugh Winton. He retired as a farmer and co-owner of White Way Pure Milk Co.

He is survived by his wife, Drusilla Winton; two sons, J.N. Winton of Hartselle and Douglas Winton; one daughter, Martha Rakestraw of Falkville; one brother, William Winton of Decatur; one sister, Nell Pearson of Decatur; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Bryant E. Austin
64, supervisor

RIPLEY, Miss. -- Funeral for Bryant E. Austin, 64, of Ripley will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at McBride Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Adams and the Rev. Marlin Adams officiating.

Burial will be in Tippah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Austin died Monday, June 12, 2000, at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi in Oxford. He was born Feb. 1, 1936, in Pontotoc, Miss., to John Bryant Austin and Hazel Oveal Jenkins Austin. He was a member of Brownfield Baptist Church in Brownfield, Miss., and he was a supervisor at Hankins Inc. for more than 30 years.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Jenkins Austin; five sons, Rodger Dale Austin of Batesville, Miss., James L. Word of Wheeler, Miss., Stephen E. Austin of Tupelo, Miss., Timothy Austin of Dumas, Miss., and Bryant "Lee" Austin of Ripley; three daughters, Loletia Hughes of Moulton, Tammy Rucks of Ripley and Brenda Austin of Green wood, Miss.; four brothers, Dean Austin, Jimmy Austin, Wayne Austin and Lynn Austin, all of Pascagoula, Miss.; one sister, Hazel Hall of Pascagoula; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mike Herman, Ricky McCollum, Delbert Tucker, Art Clanton, Allen Garner and Randy Gaillard.

Larry Dobby Gordon
49, Madison resident

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Larry Dobby Gordon, 49, of Madison will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Terry Ragland officiating.

Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery with Royal Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Gordon died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at Windsor House. He was born July 25, 1950, in Madison. His adoptive parents were the late John and Lillie Gordon.

He is survived by his parents, Samuel Miller Jr. of Madison and Sally Todd of Cleveland, Tenn.; six brothers, Leonard Gordon of Decatur and John N. Gordon, Nelson Gordon, Maurice Gordon, Henry Gordon and Kirk Gordon, all of Madison; and five sisters, Ruth Pickett of Madison, Ann Hill and Mimie Gordon, both of Cleveland, Dianne Manning of Memphis and Shirley Perinchief of Sugarland, Texas.

Boyd Fray Haley
52, business owner

HARTSELLE -- Boyd Fray Haley, 52, of Hartselle died Monday, June 12, 2000, at his home.

The family will receive friends tonight after 5 at the home of Freddie Haley, No. 3 Haley Drive off Lockhart Road in Hartselle.

Mr. Haley was born May 7, 1948, in Lawrence County to Wallace Haley and Autie Lavonia Frederick Haley. He was the owner and operator of M&S Truck Service, a member of the Kiwanis Club, and donated to Boy Scouts of America and Alabama Boys and Girls Ranch. He is survived by one son, Michael A. Haley of Cape May, N.J.; one daughter, Sarah Fray Haley of Decatur; seven brothers, Hardie Haley, Dovell Haley and Carlton Haley, all of Decatur, Vernie Haley of Tuscaloosa, Dale Haley of Gulf Shores, Freddie Haley of Hartselle and Kenneth Haley of Bulls Gap, Tenn.; and four sisters, Nell Miner of Eva, June Maxwell of Cotaco, Sandra Holmes and Sherri Griffith, both of Falkville.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Winston Lee Johnson
64, contractor

ATHENS -- Funeral for Winston Lee Johnson, 64, of Elkmont will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home.

Burial will be at Antioch Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnson died Monday, June 12, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born July 13, 1935, in Limestone County. He was a contractor and a Baptist.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Johnson of Elkmont; four sons, Jimmy Johnson, Jackie Johnson, Phillip Johnson and Justin Johnson, all of Athens; four daughters, Denice Adams, Vicky Moss, Marty Patterson and Darty Wilson, all of Athens; one brother, Robert Johnson of Elkmont; two sisters, Bessie Graves of Athens and Essie McNatt of Toledo, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

John Paul Vinzant
78, millwright

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for John Paul Vinzant, 78, of Hartselle will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral with the Rev. Mike Green officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Vinzant died Saturday, June 10, 2000, in Hartselle. He was born Nov. 22, 1921, in Morgan County to Johnny Vinzant and Birdie Johnson Vinzant. He was a World War II veteran, and a carpenter and millwright with the local union.

He is survived by three sons, Dale Wayne Vinzant of Ryan and Fenton Darnell Vinzant and Johnnie Vinzant, both of Hartselle; three brothers, Roy Vinzant, Kenneth Vinzant and Coy Vinzant, all of Hartselle; three sisters, Essie Harris of Hartselle, Geraldine Byrd of Decatur and Laverne Byrd of Falkville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Robert Witherow
68, AT&T retiree

RICHMOND, Va. -- Robert Allison Witherow, 68, of Richmond, formerly of Decatur, died Sunday, June 11, 2000. His remains have been donated for scientific research, and no formal services are planned.

He was born May 11, 1932, in Arlington, Texas. He was retired from AT&T. He was formerly married to Wanda Jo Witherow of Decatur.

He is survived by two sons, John William Witherow of Madison and Robert A. Payne of Arlington, Texas; one daughter, Cathy Payne of Arlington; one stepson, Robert Steven Northrop of Decatur; one brother, James J. Witherow of Sheridan, Ark.; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

Lawrence Gilliam 'L.G.' Manly
85, retired insurance agent

Funeral for Lawrence Gilliam "L.G." Manly, 85, of Decatur will be Friday at 12:30 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. J.B. Snyder and Rev. Richard Walker officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Manly died June 14, 2000, at Cosburn Nursing Home in Huntsville. He was born April 12, 1915, in Morgan County to John N. Manly and Daisy Swinney Manly. He was a retired agent for Southern Life and Health Insurance Co. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church at Austinville. He was the widower of Avis Cooper Manly and the grandfather of the late Sonja Stephenson.

He is survived by three sons, Dr. Theron Manly of Gulfport, Miss., the Rev. Ronald Manly of Northport and Larry Manly of Decatur; two daughters, Lillian Sivley of Hartselle and Myra Stephenson of Montgomery; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Kelmer I. 'Kenny' Nash
66, retired general contractor

AKRON, Ohio -- Funeral for Kelmer I. "Kenny" Nash, 66, of Akron will be tonight at 7 at Adams-Mason Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Pat Beers officiating.

Burial will be in Northlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mr. Nash died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at Hospice Care Center. He was born Dec. 11, 1933, in Belle Mina. He moved with his family to Akron in 1945. He was a Navy veteran and a retired general contractor.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Ribblett Nash; one son, John Nash of Indianapolis; one daughter, Victoria "Brett" Barnhill; one brother, Horace Nash of Decatur; two sisters, Betty Jones of Decatur and Mabel Muzzey of Somerville; and four granddaughters.

Mildred Gay Sims
85, homemaker

Funeral for Mildred Gay Sims, 85, of Decatur will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with Charles Littrell and Eugene Britnell officiating.

Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sims died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at The Windsor House in Nashville. She was born Feb. 7, 1915, in Stamps, Ark., to Walter T. Gay and Irene McFalls Gay. She was a homemaker and a member of Danville Road Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Clifford H. Sims; one son, Wayne Sims of St. Augustine, Fla.; one daughter, Margaret Ward of Nashville; one sister, Virginia Moran of Decatur; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Sims, Craig Carter, Jerry Howes, Joe Mercadante, Mike Mercadante and Jarrod McManus.

Otis White
59, machine operator

Funeral for Otis White, 59, of Courtland will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Marcus Davidson officiating.

Burial will be in Courtland Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. White died Monday, June 12, 2000, at Parkway Medical Center. He was born July 16, 1940, in Lawrence County to Willie White and Samantha Crayton White. He was a machine operator at Wolverine Tube and a member of Masonic Lodge, Redbank Chapter 332.

He is survived by his wife, Shirlena White; two daughters, Sherial Johnson and Shannon White, both of Courtland; four brothers, James White of Hillsboro, Leonard White of Leighton, Jimmy White of Town Creek and Jessie White of Decatur; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Mason, Charlie Mayes, Levolia Smith, John Freeman, Issac Miller and Clarence Lipscomb.
