Funeral for Leroy Cowley Sr., 77, of Decatur will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Westside Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. George Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Memorial Gardens with Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Cowley died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at The University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham. He was born June 2, 1923, in Priceville to Gillie Cowley and Dallas Stewart Cowley. He was a member of Sand Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was a retired mechanic for Ford Tractor Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by seven sons, Leroy Cowley Jr. of Suwanee, Ga., Dwight Cowley, Edward Cowley, Timothy Cowley, Terry Cowley, Michael Cowley and Jerome Elliott, all of Decatur; seven daughters, Altheia Nance of Mount Juliet, Tenn., Patricia Ayers, Ernestine Cowley, Willie Ester Cowley, Cynthia Cowley, Joyce Lee Young and Jean Elliott, all of Decatur; one stepson, Thomas Troupe of Decatur; one brother, Willie Anderson Cowley of Cleveland, Ohio; one sister, Kate McDonald of Spring City, Tenn.; 17 grandchildren; and 33 great-grand- children.

Pallbearers will be Cleve Jarman, Percy Bradley, Floyd Jones, Walter Jones, Carl Garth and Leon Crayton.

Annie Cain Garrett
90, homemaker

Funeral for Annie Cain Garrett, 90, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Coomer and the Rev. Truman Harris officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Garrett died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Sunbridge Nursing Home. She was born Nov. 9, 1909, in Dallas, Texas, to J.H. Cain and Lula Owen Cain. She was a member of Austinville Church of God and a homemaker. She was the widow of Robert "Hal" Garrett. She was preceded in death by one grandson.

She is survived by one son, Robert Dalton Garrett of Baytown, Texas; two daughters, Dorothy Garrett of Baytown and Debbie Garrett Shaffer of Decatur; one sister, Rubye Powers of Columbiana; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ken Garrett, David Garrett, Paul R. Humerick, Wayne Lott, Tommy Raley and Edwin Liverett.

Virginia Jo Gray
78, retired store manager

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Virginia Jo Gray, 78, of Athens was to be today at 10 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Bobby Pepper officiating.

Mrs. Gray died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Athens Convalescent Center. She was retired from The University of Alabama in Huntsville as manager of the student bookstore. She was a member of Sanderfer Road Church of Christ and the widow of T.V. Gray.

She is survived by two daughters, Jan Boyd of Athens and Diane Kerr of Decatur; one son, Ronald M. Gray of Huntington Beach, Calf.; one sister, Catherine Hardin of Athens; six grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Allen Boyd, Donald M. Thomas, David M. Thomas, Bill Boyd, Harold Kerr and T.J. Hamlin.

Jack D. Hennigan
61, Reynolds Metals, postal service retiree

TUSCUMBIA -- Funeral for Jack D. Hennigan, 61, of Leighton will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Morrison Funeral Home with the Rev. J.W. Vickers officiating.

Burial will be in Old Brick Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hennigan died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Shoals Hospital. He was born Jan. 19, 1939, in Colbert County to Sam Hennigan and Pauline Norman Hennigan. He retired from the alloys plant at Reynolds Metals Co. and from the U.S. Postal Service, after serving patrons in Lawrence County for 31 years. He was a master mason of Town Creek Lodge 361 and a Methodist. He was the brother of the late Billy D. Hennigan.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Hennigan; one son, Sean Hennigan of Leighton; one daughter, Denise Kerby of Leighton; one brother, Sam Stuart Hennigan of Leighton; two sisters, Mary Sue Hennigan and Linda Steele, both of Leighton; and one grandson.

Pallbearers will be Roy Loosier, Dale Campbell, Bub Harris, King Streater, Billy Lee, Wade Patterson, James Wood and Lilbern Beaver.

Arrena Mae Humphries
94, homemaker

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Arrena Mae Humphries, 94, of Eva was to be today at 2 p.m. at Gum Pond Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Guy Hunt officiating.

Burial was to be in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Cullman Heritage Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Humphries died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at her residence. She was born Sept. 10, 1905, in Morgan County to Johnathan Cobbs and Savannah Ryan Cobbs. She was a homemaker and the widow of Irving C. Humphries and the mother of Everette Humphries.

She is survived by four sons, Levoyd Humphries of Decatur, Carrol Gene Humphries of Somerville, Hulond Humphries of Wedowee and Billy Hue Humphries of Eva; two daughters, Sarah S. Eddleman of Fairview and Yvonne Hughes of Chalkville; two brothers, Herbert Cobbs of Falkville and Dexter Cobbs of Snead; one sister, Clara Cobbs of Cullman; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Theldia Warrine Dooley Scott

ROGERSVILLE -- Funeral for Theldia Warrine Dooley Scott, 73, of Rogersville, who has relatives in Decatur and Trinity, was to be today at 11 a.m. at Twin Oaks Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Derian officiating.

Burial will be in Blue Water Cemetery.

Mrs. Scott died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, in Rogersville after an extended illness. She was born Oct. 1, 1926, in Rogersville, to Robert Hudson Dooley and Wilma Mae Gray Dooley. She was the sister of the late Roy Dooley.

Mrs. Scott is survived by her husband, Arvin Lee Scott; three sons, John Scott, Ronnie Scott and Jerry Scott, all of Anderson; four daughters, Carolyn Buell of Detroit, Mae Scott and Connie Reilly, both of Anderson, and Scarlett Brooks of Lexington; one brother, Robert Edison of Center Star; one sister, Jean Williams of Killen; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Alex Derian, Mike Williams, Harold Gray, Michael Rychel, Russ Szymczak and James Rice.

Isabel Sereno Shaffer
86, homemaker

Memorial mass for Isabel Sereno Shaffer, 86, of Decatur was to be said today at 3:30 p.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Culotta officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Shaffer died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Aug. 20, 1913, in Maryland to John A. Sereno and Mary A. Sereno. She was a homemaker, a member of Newcomers Alums and a member for 10 years of St. Ann's Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Edwin P. Shaffer; one son, John E. Shaffer of Hartselle; two daughters, Marilyn S. Weaver of Metairie, La., and Marcia I. Bridgford of Decatur; four brothers, Aurelius Sereno of Clarksburg, W.Va., Joseph Sereno, Irvin Sereno, both of Terra Alta, W.Va., and Eugene Sereno of Lynchburg, Va.; four sisters, Esther Robinson of Woodbridge, Va., Bernadine Campbell of Nashville, Marian Cordova and Elaine Roberts, both of Melbourne, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Elsie Irene Tucker

TRINITY -- Funeral for Elsie Irene Tucker, 65, of Hartselle, will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Oscar Ray Gray officiating.

Burial will be in Raper Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8:30 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Tucker died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at her residence. She was born Oct. 14, 1934, in Lawrence County to Albert Dotson and Annie Dotson. She was a lunchroom cook at Berry High School in Midfield.

She is survived by her husband, Levi Tucker; one daughter, Joy Ann Pearson of Shelby; three brothers, Marvin Dotson and Melton Dotson, both of Moulton, and Robert Dotson of Fort Pierce, Fla.; one sister, Betty Ray of Moulton; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Robert Overton, Leland Tucker, Richard Pearson, David Smith, Tyler Tucker and Herschel Franks.

Faye NeSmith Ward

Mrs. Ward died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham. She was born July 30, 1927, in Lawrence County to Jason Winfred NeSmith and Alma Irene Hampton NeSmith. She was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church. She was the widow of Johnnie Pruitt Ward and mother of the late Johnna Ward Summerford.

She is survived by one daughter, Tammy Ward Hoffman of Decatur.

Burial will be in Troup Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 and Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Christa died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at his home. He was born March 13, 1948, in Madison County to Paul Lee Christa and Frances Effie Garner Christa. He was a minister and retired from the city of Huntsville Wastewater Treatment Plant.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Kitchens Christa of Grant, formerly of Decatur; two daughters, Heather Frances Christa and Angela Darlene Baker, both of Albertville; two sons, Robbie Christa of Georgia and Gregg Traynom of Grant and formerly of Decatur; three brothers, Willie L. Christa, Frank Gordon Christa and Alvie Joe Christa, all of Huntsville; two adopted brothers, Onto Horton of Decatur and C.H. Dake of New Hope; one sister, Joyce Slaten of Danville; and five grandchildren.

Annie Delores 'Dee Dee' Davis
52, Prestolite insurance clerk

Funeral for Annie Delores "Dee Dee" Davis, 52, of Decatur, will be Saturday at noon at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Edward Franklin officiating.

Burial will be in Sterrs Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Davis died Monday, June 19, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born June 19, 1948, in Lawrence County, to Willie Davis and Christine Hill Davis. She attended Morgan County Training School in Hartselle and the Job Corps of America, where she received a degree in secretarial science. She was a member of Canaan Missionary Baptist Church and served in the adult choir. She worked for 29 years at Prestolite as insurance clerk.

She is survived by one son, Derrick Dewayne Davis of Atlanta; her stepmother, Eula Davis of Decatur; five brothers, Joe Louis Troupe of Valdosta, Ga., Ronald Darby of Tuscumbia, Ronnie Dotson of Montgomery and Gregory Davis and Robert Davis, both of Decatur; one sister, Cheryl Torain of Decatur; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Douglas Williams, Ernest Torain and Nathaniel Torain, Quinton Elliott, Terry Scruggs, Aree Sharpley, Fredrick Fuqua and Jerry Nash.

John Dutton

CULLMAN -- Funeral for John Melvin Dutton, 70, of Cullman will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Rodgers and the Rev. Marvin Brock officiating.

Burial will be in Jones Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Dutton died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 5, 1929, in Morgan County to Rufus Erbin Dutton and Lois Sandlin Dutton. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of Baldwin Heights Baptist Church and brother of the late Howard Dutton, Ray Dutton and Hollis Dutton.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Frances Medlock Dutton of Cullman; one son, Barry Dutton of Cullman; two daughters, Dianne Morris of Decatur and Donna M. Haynes of Bethsadia; one sister, Marie Waters of Cullman; five grandchildren; and one great-granchild.

Gillie Mae Gartman

Mrs. Gartman was born April 7, 1921 in Spring Garden. She died Wednesday, June 21, 2000 at her residence. She moved to Athens in 1965 and was a resident of Limestone County until 1997. She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Athens. She was the widow of Paul Griggs Gartman.

She is survived by three daughters, Sharon Wilson of Senoia, Ga., Paula Ray of Stockbridge, Ga., and Patricia Hardt of Madison; two sisters, Nell Alls of Riverdale, Ga., and Francis Camp of Gay, Ga.; one brother, Donald Woods of Riverdale, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Wilson, Billy Ray, Tony Smith, Chris Craig, Buster Ray and Danny Craig.
