Edith Perkins

Funeral for Edith Perkins, 83, of Decatur was to be today at noon at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. J.B. Snyder officiating. A graveside service was to follow at 2 p.m. at Gilliam Springs Cemetery in Arab.

Mrs. Perkins died at home Saturday, June 24, 2000. She was born Sept. 22, 1916, in Arab to Tempie Hyatt Rutledge and William Chester Rutledge. She was a member of Sixteenth Avenue Baptist Church. She joined the Mizpah Chapter No. 19 Order of Eastern Star on Dec. 4, 1951, and served as past matron. She was a member of White Shrine of Jerusalem. She was the widow of Clarence C. Perkins. She had been a hairdresser.

She is survived by one son, Bobby R. Perkins of Mathiston, Miss.; two daughters, Billie P. Wilkinson of Eclectic and Oletta P. Goodman of Decatur; one sister, Inez Campbell of Atlanta; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Ron Cowan, Judge Bobby Day, Bobby Lang, Joe Crater, Al Fincher and Ben Anderson.

Donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Arthur 'A.T.' Rutherford Jr.
56, pipe welder

Funeral for Arthur Thomas "A.T." Rutherford, 56, of Athens will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Keith Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Rutherford Cemetery in Hatton. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Rutherford died at home Saturday, June 24, 2000. He was born Aug. 17, 1943, in Colbert County to Lottie Borden Rutherford and Arthur Rutherford Sr. He was an Army veteran and a pipe welder.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Rutherford; two daughters, Amber Rutherford and Wanda Yauch, both of Athens; two sons, William Rutherford of Athens and Tommy Rutherford of Trinity; one brother, James Rutherford of Florence; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Michael Muston, David Muston, Ray Rutherford, Dennis Blasingame, Tim Blasingame and Tony Blasingame.

Willie Jim Sales
52, farmer

TANNER -- Funeral for Willie Jim Sales, 52, of Tanner will be Tuesday at noon at People's Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Bailey officiating.

Burial will be at Ragland Cemetery in Green brier.

Mr. Sales died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at his home. He was born Dec. 29, 1947, in Limestone County. He was a farmer and the son of Eliza Sales. He is survived by his father, Willie Hines of Sheffield; two sons, Willie Smith of Belle Mina and Christopher Peoples of Tanner; four daughters, Joyce Smith of Belle Mina, Tara Pendleton of Green brier, Tequisha Pendleton of Huntsville and Cathy Stevens of Athens; one brother, Johnny Sales of Athens; five sisters, Bobbie Nelson, Brenda Sales, Joyce Key, Jenny Ervin and Rosie Draper, all of Athens; and seven grandchildren.

Gloria Juanita Scott
64, substitute teacher

ATHENS -- Funeral for Gloria Juanita Scott, 64, of Athens, was to be today at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Petit and the Rev. R. G. Smith officiating.

Burial was to be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Scott died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Sept. 29, 1935, in Limestone County to Charles McCravy and Jewell McCravy. She was a substitute teacher at Athens High School, where she also was a member of the Booster Club. Mrs. Scott was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for more than 30 years. She was the sister of the late Charles McCravy Jr.

Mrs. Scott is survived by her husband, Frank Scott; two sons, Jeff Scott and Steve Scott, both of Athens; one daughter, Connie Anerton of Athens; and one brother, Billy Wayne McCravy of Decatur.

Pallbearers were to be Virgil Murphy, Tony Gandy, Larry Posey, Duel Green e, Wesley Davis and Robert Norman.

Memorials may be made to the Madison Street Baptist Church Mission Fund.

Jimmie D. Wood Sr.
58, retired truck driver

ATHENS -- Funeral for Jimmie D. Wood Sr., 58, of Milan, Tenn., formerly of Athens, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with James Toone officiating.

Burial will be in Copeland Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9. Mr. Wood died Saturday, June 24, 2000 in Jackson, Tenn. He was born March 24, 1942, in Morgan County. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Roundtop Baptist Church.

He is survived by two sons, Jimmie D. Wood Jr. of Priceville and Hubert Lee Wood of Huntsville; a brother, Bonnie Wood of Florida; two sisters, Rosie Terry of Moulton and Francis Durall of Kentucky; and two grandchildren.

Benjamin Junior 'Ben' Bush
36, agricultural engineer
Funeral for Benjamin Junior "Ben" Bush, 36, of Russellville will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Rock Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Mount Hope with the Rev. Melvin Ingram officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Rock Springs Cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.

Mr. Bush died Friday, June 16, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born April 20, 1964, in Lawrence County to Lorenza Pruitt Jr. and Annie Lois Robinson. He was employed by Spruell Enterprises as an agricultural engineer. He was a member of Rocks Springs church and a graduate of Mount Hope High School.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Bush of Russellville; one son, Benjamin Justin Colby Bush of Russell-ville; his father of Louisville, Ky.; his mother of Mount Hope; two brothers, Bobby Robinson of Moulton and LaToine Pruitt of Louisville; his grandparents, Mary Bush of Mount Hope, and Lorenza Pruitt Sr. and Lucy Pruitt of Louisville.

Pallbearers will be George Hubbard, Keith Fike, Joey Bean, James Suggs, Wayne Spruell and Robin Nelson.

Bobby L. James

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Bobby Leon James, 63, of Danville will be Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Bailey and the Rev. Harold Thompson officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. James died Sunday, June 18, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital East. He was born Sept. 24, 1936, in Morgan County to Judson James and Emma Sandlin James. He was a member of Danville Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the deacons, a Sunday school teacher, church historian and a lifetime corporate trustee. Mr. James retired from General Motors and was the brother of the late Billy James.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Harvey James; one son, Dan James of Conyers, Ga.; one daughter, Beth Lambert of Hartselle; two brothers, Earl James and Euel James, both of Hartselle; two sisters, Shirley Thompson of Hartselle and Sarah Dotson of Decatur; one granddaughter; and one step-granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be Tim Thompson, Allen Dotson, Mark Dotson, Greg James, David James and John Mayfield.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and trustees of Danville Baptist Church.

Annie R. Linderman
88, homemaker

Funeral for Annie R. Linderman, 88, of Decatur was to be today at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. James Spears, the Rev. Jackie Camp and the Rev. Phillip Sessions officiating.

Burial was to be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Linderman died Friday, June 16, 2000, at her home. She was born April 3, 1912, in Morgan County to Lumby Rhodes and Nancy Shelton Rhodes. She was a homemaker and a member of Oak Grove First Congregational Methodist Church. She was the widow of Millard Cecil Linderman and the mother of Ray Linderman and Emmens L.M. Linderman.

She is survived by two sons, Jackie D. Linderman of Decatur and Dr. Samuel D. Linderman of Huntsville; two daughters, June Collins and Eloise Buckelew, both of Decatur; one brother, Milton Rhodes of Decatur; one sister, Elizabeth Morgan Moore of Decatur; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were to be Dennis Baxter, Mark Sain, Larry Sain, Kevin Linderman, Jeff Coffee and Samuel D. Linderman II.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Mable Lois Peoples
63, cook

MOULTON -- Funeral for Mable Lois Peoples, 63, of Moulton will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Owens Chapel Church with the Rev. Amos Hood officiating and Lawrence Funeral home directing.

Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Peoples died Sunday, June 18, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born May 8, 1937, in Lawrence County to William Henry Borden and Cora Dee Borden. She was a cook at the Apple Tree restaurant in Moulton.

Mrs. Peoples is survived by four sons, Bob Cornelius Peoples, Thomas Mel Peoples, Daniel Peoples and Christopher Ray Peoples, all of Moulton; one daughter, Nellie Ann Campbell of Moulton; four brothers, James "Bud" Borden and Donald Ronnie Borden, both of Moulton, James "Junior" Borden of Bessemer, and Jackie Ray Borden of Decatur; three sisters, Ruth Hughes and Susan K. Robbins, both of Moulton, and Shirley Jean Cross of Courtland; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Donnie Hughes, Michael Borden, Ethan Clark, Jeff Curtis, Stacy Pitt and Willie Johnson.

Michael E. Twente, M.D.
49, pyschiatrist

Memorial service for Michael E. Twente, M.D., of Decatur will be Tuesday at 6 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Decatur with the Rev. Ken Dunivant and Rev. Sid McAnnally officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Dr. Twente died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born July 5, 1950, in Jackson, Miss., to Dr. George Twente and Alma Twente.

He attended Vanderbilt University and the University of Mississippi at Oxford and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Mississippi Medical School. He completed his psychiatric residency at Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C., and later practiced in that area. He moved to Decatur in 1979 and continued his practice until retirement in 1999.

He served as medical director for Decatur General Adult Psychiatric Inpatient Program, director of the behavioral medicine center's outpatient program and director of Bradford Treatment Center in Madison. He maintained a private practice in adult and adolescent psychiatry and addictions treatment until his retirement.

He was a member of the American Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association and was involved in many civic and cultural activities in the community. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

He was the son of the late Dr. George Twente.

He is survived by his wife, Beth Walley Twente: two sons, Max Twente and Miles Twente, both of Decatur; mother, Mrs. George Twente of Jackson; one brother, George E. Twente II, M.D. of Meridian, Miss.; and two sisters, Pat Hall of Jackson and Marianne Allred of Georgia.

The family requests that donations be made to the Princess Theatre Restoration Fund, the local chapter of the American Heart Association or a favorite charity.
