Arlene Braswell Lowrance
72, retired nursing supervisor

Memorial service for Arlene Braswell Lowrance, 72, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Church of the Good Shepherd, Episcopal, with the Rev. Harrison McLeod officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in the church flower garden. The family will receive friends after the service at Mrs. Lowrance's home.

Mrs. Lowrance died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at her home. She was born July 20, 1927, in Macon, Ga., to Clarence Eugene Braswell and Bertha Brown Braswell-Damour. She received her nursing degree in Atlanta and retired as nursing supervisor from Decatur General Hospital after 20 years. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd. She was the widow of Roy E. Lowrance.

She is survived by two sons, Roy E. Lowrance III of New York City and Roger Thomas Lowrance of Houston, Texas; three daughters, Barbara Lowrance, Kathy Burkett and Patricia Boldin, all of Decatur; her mother of Macon; one half brother, George Damour of Macon; one stepbrother, Edward Damour of Macon; and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be made Church of the Good Shepherd, Episcopal, Building Fund, 3809 Spring Ave. S.W., Decatur, AL 35603.

James Marshall 'Curley' Roberts
61, retired

HARTSELLE -- Memorial service for James Marshall "Curley" Roberts, 61, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Hartselle, was Wednesday at Lakewood United Methodist Church in Houston with Brookside Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Roberts died June 9, 2000, at Berea Hospital in Berea, Ky. He was born Jan. 14, 1939, in Hartselle to Roy P. Roberts Sr. and Mildred Blevins Roberts. He was retired from Phillips Petroleum Co. in Bartlesville, Okla. He was a graduate of The University of Alabama, Clemson College and Furman University.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Roberts of Houston; three daughters, Donna Furr of Oklahoma City, Nancy Ball and Susan Chapman, both of Houston; his mother of Falkville; one brother, Roy Roberts Jr. of Madison; one sister, Winnie Burns of Hartselle; and four grandchildren.

Dr. Michael E. Twente

Decatur psychiatrist Dr. Michael E. Twente, 49, suffered an apparent heart attack about 5 p.m. Saturday and died at his home at 522 Oak St. N.E, a family member said. He would have been 50 in July. He was the brother of Dr. George E. Twente, a former Decatur psychiatrist who now practices in Mississippi. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Roselawn Funeral Home.

Estelle Jacobs Brown
89, retired waitress

ALEXANDER, Ark. -- Funeral for Estelle Jacobs Brown, 89, of Little Rock, Ark., will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Griffin Leggett-Forest Hills Funeral Home with Miles King and Chris Dickenson officiating.

Burial will be in Pinecrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Brown died Monday, June 19, 2000, at Little Rock Baptist Medical Center. She was born Oct. 12, 1910, in Moulton to William Freeman Jacobs and Madgie May Crow Jacobs. She was a retired waitress and a member of the Church of Christ. She was the widow of Earl Brown and the mother of the late Juanita Hazelwood.

She is survived by two sons, Joe Brown of Little Rock and Johnny Brown of Benton, Ark.; three daughters, Billie Styers, Betty Jean Crain and Elizabeth Brown, all of Little Rock; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Joe Brown Jr., Johnny Brown II, Jacky Brown, Melvin Styers Jr., Richard Styers, Monty Crain, Brian Hazelwood and Brett Hazelwood.

Reva H. Cobb
78, Goodyear retiree

Funeral for Reva H. Cobb, 78, of Decatur will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel with Gary Cardwell officiating.

Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cobb died at home Tuesday, June 20, 2000. She was born Sept. 9, 1921, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Jessie and Charlie Higdon. She retired from Goodyear Tire Co. in 1983. She was a member of Flint Baptist Church and the Adult 5 Sunday school class. She was the widow of Walter Thomas Cobb.

She is survived by one son, Roger Dale Cobb of Danville; two daughters, Monda Jo Beene of Decatur and Syble Gayle Bayless of Petersburg, Tenn.; one sister, Ethel Prater of Hartselle; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be James Law, Willis Hutchinson, Kenneth Bowling, Mel Maresh, Larry Fristoe and M.L. Robbins.

James Ferman Elmore
80, former coach, educator

GUNTERSVILLE -- James Ferman Elmore, 80, a former high school football coach, educator and administrator in Athens, Dothan and Huntsville, died Monday at his home.

Funeral was to be today at 1 p.m. at Guntersville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Audie Hodges officiating.

Burial was to be in Crestview Cemetery with Carr Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Elmore was born July 22, 1919, in Pickens County to Henry S. Elmore and Jessie Shaw Elmore. He graduated from Pickens County High School at Reform and earned a football scholarship to The University of Alabama.

After his freshman year, he enlisted in the Army and spent more than three years in combat in Europe during World War II with Gen. George S. Patton's Third Division. The memorable battles in which he fought included the Battle of the Bulge in late 1944 and early 1945.

He returned to Alabama to complete work for his degree in physical education. He graduated in 1948 and began his coaching career that fall at Athens High School as an assistant under Hal Self. After a 9-1 season, Self moved to Florence to begin building the football team at then Florence State Teachers College, and Elmore became head coach at Athens. He remained through the 1956 season, winning more than 50 games. In 1954, Athens was 9-0-1 and in a newspaper poll finished runner-up to Bessemer as the No. 1 team in the state. He coached at Dothan High School from 1957-62, and following a rebuilding campaign posted five straight winning seasons. He returned to Athens for the 1963 season and coached two more years before becoming principal. He remained at Athens until 1971 before transferring to Butler High School in Huntsville to become assistant principal. He retired there in 1978.

"Dad will be remembered for being a fair yet stern educator who believed in doing your best in sports or in the classroom and behaving yourself," said son Jerry Elmore of Fort Payne. "He never spent a lot of time worrying about what others thought about him; he just did what he thought was best."

He is survived by his wife, Willetta Cooper Elmore; two sons, James F. "Jimmy" Elmore of Hoover and Jerry Elmore of Fort Payne; one brother, Gene Elmore of Pensacola, Fla.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be William Henry Elmore, George Millard Elmore, Albert Elmore Jr., Grady Elmore Jr., Gene Harold Kerr and Henry Elmore.

Memorials may be made to Guntersville First United Methodist Church or Hospice of Marshall County.

Myrtle Levell Kellum Fleischammel
91, homemaker

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Myrtle Levell Kellum Fleischammel, 91, of Falkville will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Moss Service Funeral Home with Shirley Witcher officiating.

Burial will be in Hamby's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Fleischammel died Monday, June 19, 2000, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Decatur.

She was born Jan. 8, 1909, in Cullman County to James Sebron Kinney and Maehaley Leamon Kinney. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Thermon Lavon Kellum of Cullman; three daughters, Marcella Shelton of Decatur, Kathleen Cook of Cullman and Montez Key of Flint, Mich.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Annie Blanche Gilbert
92, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Annie Blanche Gilbert, 92, of Athens will be Friday at 1 p.m. at James Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Karlon Fletcher officiating.

Burial will be in Thatch-Mann Cemetery with Peoples Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Gilbert died Sunday, June 18, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Jan. 1, 1908, in Limestone County. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Maxie Cannon Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio, and William "Billy" Gilbert of Athens; four daughters, Josie M. Prewitt of Columbus, Ohio, Lois Hailey of Cleveland, Bernice Clinton of Madison and Frances Darby of Rockford, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Wilburn B. 'Bill' Glover
83, Redstone Arsenal retiree

Graveside service for Wilburn B. "Bill" Glover, 83, of Decatur will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Green Valley Cemetery in Owens Crossroads with the Rev. Michael Carpenter officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Glover died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born June 8, 1917, in Owens Crossroads to T. Frank and Laura Glover. He was a World War II veteran, retired from Redstone Arsenal Fox Army Hospital, and a member of East End United Methodist Church and Northern 278 Masonic Lodge in New Hope.

He is survived by one son, W.D. "Bubba" Glover of Hayden; four daughters, Kaye Kelley of Odenville, Beverly Martin of Decatur, Donna Maples of Tuscaloosa and Vickie DeVoll of Melburn, Fla.; one sister, Ola Turner of Huntsville; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Sidney Aldridge McDonald
76, retired salesman

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Sidney Aldridge McDonald, 76, of Nashville will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Athens City Cemetery with Will L. Nelson officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing.

Mr. McDonald died Monday, June 19, 2000, at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville. He was the son of the late John Milton McDonald and Mabel McDonald. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired salesman. He was the widower of Anna Gayle Nelson McDonald and brother of the late Clifton McDonald.

He is survived by five nephews, Johnny McDonald of Kingsland, Ga., Bill McDonald of The Woodlands, Texas, Will L. Nelson, Stanley Nelson, both of Athens, and John Nelson of Muscle Shoals; and one niece, Libba McDonald Wilder of Dallas, Texas.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Van C. Moses
77, NASA welder

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Van C. Moses, 77, of Falkville will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Kirk Minor officiating.

Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Moses died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at Summerford Nursing Home in Falkville. He was born March 30, 1923, in Morgan County to William Thomas Moses and Josephine Thompson Moses. He was a World War II veteran, a retired welder for NASA, and a member of Crossroads Baptist Church and Falkville Masonic Lodge No. 396. He was the widower of Ruth Ellen Moses.

He is survived by four sons, John Moses of Lacey's Spring, Ron Moses, Tony Moses and Harold Moses, all of Eva; one daughter, Judy Minor of Cherokee; one brother, W.P. Moses of Cullman; one sister, Mildred Patton of Eva; and seven grandchildren.

Grandsons and relatives will be pallbearers.

Betty Wiley Mummert
74, homemaker

Funeral for Betty Wiley Mummert, 74, of Decatur will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Wright officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mummert died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born May 2, 1926, in Dillsburg, Pa., to Abba and Willis R. Wiley.

She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Richard P. Mummert of Decatur; two sons, Gary A. Mummert of Hoover and Terry L. Mummert of Decatur; one daughter, Sheree M. Henderson of Danville; one sister, Marzella Wolfe of York Springs, Pa.; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kirk Henderson, Jason Henderson, David Henderson, Quitman Henderson, Michael Mummert and Howard Hendrix.
