77, retired documentation engineer

HUNTSVILLE -- Memorial service for Joseph A. Branson, 77, of Lacey's Spring will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Al Phillips officiating and Twickenham Funeral Home-South directing.

Mr. Branson died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at his home. He was born Sept. 6, 1922, in Florence, Kansas. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and No. 32 Mason Solar Lodge. He was a retired documentation engineer from NASA. He was the father of the late Starlene Branson Jenkins.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Branson; one son, Bradley Branson of Lacey's Spring; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the Huntsville Achievement School, 406½ Governors Drive, Huntsville, AL 35801.

Joe Howard Evans

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Joe Howard Evans, 34, of Falkville will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Smith and the Rev. Billy Gable officiating.

Burial will be in Powel's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Evans died Friday, June 30, 2000, at Smith Lake. He was born March 8, 1966, in Morgan County. He was a carpenter.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Terry; one son, Robert Lee Evans of Falkville; his parents, Ralph Stinson Evans and Millie Ray Johnson Evans of Falkville; two brothers, Phillip Wayne Evans and Michael Ray Evans, both of Falkville; and one sister, Jan Denise Hopkins of Hartselle.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Gray, Tim Gray, Mike Woodall, Jerry Bell, Corey Smith, Charles Crowell, Bill Brown and Wayne Coggins.

David N. Gillespie

Funeral arrangements for David N. Gillespie, 60, of Decatur, who died Friday, June 30, 2000, at his home, will be announced by Roselawn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Clydie Lucille Lanier Taylor
85, homemaker

Funeral for Clydie Lucille Lanier Taylor, 85, of Decatur will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at New Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Godbee and the Rev. Burl Oliver officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with Shelton Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Taylor died Friday, June 30, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born May 12, 1915, in Morgan County to James Lanier and Carrie Curbow Lanier. She was a homemaker, a gardener and a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Coleman Taylor; three daughters, Margaret Teague of Hartselle, Helen Hawkins of Somerville and Stephanie Taylor of Decatur; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Danny Ward, Ronnie Reeves, Clyde Taylor, Steve Taylor, Jan Corder and Jeff Corder.

Mary Townsend
93, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Mary Townsend, 93, of Huntsville will be today at noon at New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church of America with the Rev. Terry Ragland officiating.

Burial will in Johnson Chapel Cemetery with Peoples Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Townsend died Thursday, June 29, 2000, in Huntsville. She was born Nov. 12, 1906, in Limestone County. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by one sister, Lucretia Garrison of Nashville; and one grandchild.

Stanley Tory Waldrep
71, barber

TRINITY -- Funeral for Stanley Tory Waldrep, 71, of Moulton will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Pine Grove Holy Church of Christ with the Rev. Waymon Ashley and the Rev. Keith Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery with Parkway Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Waldrep died Friday, June 30, 2000, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born June 29, 1929, in Lawrence County to Luther Waldrep and Missouri Waldrep. He was a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Pine Grove Holy Church of Christ. He was a barber and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Mattie Sue Warren Waldrep; two sons, Bobby Glenn Waldrep and Ricky Glenn Waldrep, both of Moulton; one daughter, Linda Waldrep Reeves of Somerville; two brothers, Elliott J. Waldrep of Florence and Franklin David Waldrep of Trinity; four sisters, Bonnie Louise Rilley and Barbara Ann Balwin, both of Florence, and Gloria Wynell Hall and Hazel Hope Hall, both of Trinity; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Waldrep, David Bowden, Darren Waldrep, J.B. Blaxton, Jeff Hall, Carlos Hall and Casey Lee Waldrep.

James Spurgeon Wilhite
93, retired farmer

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for James Spurgeon Wilhite, 93, of Falkville will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Lindsey Herndon officiating.

Burial will be in Wilhite Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Wilhite died Friday, June 30, 2000, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born March 30, 1907, in Morgan County to James Alton Wilhite and Audrey Augusta Wilhite. He was a retired farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Rosa Belle Wilhite; three sons, James William Wilhite and Eugene Wilhite, both of Falkville, and Gary Don Wilhite of Birmingham; one daughter, Georgia Mae Barber of Athens; two brothers, Paul Wilhite of Falkville and Earl Wilhite of Hartselle; three sisters, Stella Legg, Opal NeSmith and Betty Walker, all of Falkville; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Christine Abbott

Mrs. Abbott died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born March 12, 1933, in Etowah County to John Tucker and Annie Tucker. She was a homemaker and a member of Warrior River Baptist Church. She was the sister of the late Harold Tucker, Adrian Tucker and Johnnie Gilmer.

She is survived by her husband, Harce "Junior" Abbott; three sons, William Cannon of Decatur, and John Cannon and Perry Abbott, both of Moulton; two daughters, Cynthia Young of Marion, Ky., and Delilah Massarotti of Nashville; two brothers, Frank Tucker of Attalla and Robert Tucker of Altoona; three sisters, Mildred Walden of Anniston, Annie Sue Vernon of Gadsden and Barbara Sitz of Attalla; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be R.B. Abbott, Brad Abbott, Floyd Abbott, Michael Coan, Jerry Gilmer and Adam Gilmer.

Caroline Berryhill

ARDMORE -- Graveside service for Caroline Berryhill, 88, of Taft, Tenn., will be today at 2 p.m. at Blanche Cemetery with Wayne Simmons officiating and Taylor-Ardmore Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Berryhill died Friday, June 30, 2000, at Meadow Brook Nursing Home. She was born July 3, 1911, in Taft. She was a homemaker and a member of Taft United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Odie Berryhill.

She is survived by one son, Howard Berryhill of Fayetteville, Tenn.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Kelvine Ray Brown

Funeral arrangements for Kelvine Ray Brown, 61, of Portage, Mich., who died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Parkway Medical Center, will be announced by Shelton Funeral Home.

Lossie Lee Carter Jr.

Mr. Carter died Friday, June 30, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born March 6, 1947, in Limestone County. He was a concrete finisher.

He is survived by one son, Keith Carter of Rogersville; one daughter, Tresea McCrary of Athens; two brothers, Leroy Carter and Tillman Carter, both of Athens; two sisters, Eather Shedd and Gladys Adams, both of Athens; and three grandchildren.

David Lawson Gillespie
60, retired brick mason

Funeral for David Lawson Gillespie, 60, of Decatur will be today at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Albert Hodges officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Gillespie died Friday, June 30, 2000, at his home. He was born Feb. 29, 1940, in Morgan County to Lawson Gillespie and Katie Adams Gillespie. He was a retired brick mason.

He is survived by his wife, Archel Lee Gillespie; three sons, Davie Gillespie, Tim Gillespie and Darrel Gillespie, all of Decatur; two daughters, Myra Blasingame of Decatur and Angela Oubra of Baton Rouge, La.; his mother of Decatur; two brothers, Austin Gillespie and Loyd Gillespie, both of Priceville; four sisters, Faye Whitt of Athens, and Mary Davenport, Lola Holt and Katie Johnson, all of Decatur; and eight grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brian Gillespie, Brent Davenport, Kevin Davenport, Ray Oubra, Lewis Blasingame and Ralph Holt.

Mildred Hensley
79, homemaker

Mrs. Hensley died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born Oct. 23, 1920, in Morgan County to W.D. Lynne and Leola Prickett Lynne. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by four sons, William Hensley, Jackie Hensley and Roger Hensley, all of Danville, and Wade Hensley of Hartselle; one brother, James Lynne of New Port Richey, Fla.; and 14 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Heath Hensley, Doyle Hensley, Adam Hensley, Randy Hensley, Kenneth Sanford and Jason Slayton.

Benny Morris Jones

HUNTSVILLE -- Graveside service for Benny Morris Jones, 61, of Lacey's Spring will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Pine Grove Holiness Church Cemetery with the Rev. G.W. Atchley officiating and Twickenham Funeral Home-South directing.

Mr. Jones died Friday, June 30, 2000, in Huntsville. He was born Jan. 28, 1939, in Limestone County. He was heavy machine operator.

He is survived by his wife, Linda West Jones; one son, Macklin Jones of Ardmore, Tenn.; one daughter, Dianne Jones of Athens; three brothers, Robert Jones, Wayne Jones and Freddy Jones, all of Athens; four sisters, Linda Eckstein, Jeanette Tyler, Mae Sterling and Faye Stanford, all of Ardmore.; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
