Sidney Freeman Gardner
80, retired truck driver

ATHENS -- Funeral for Sidney Freeman Gardner, 80, of Athens will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Warren Glass and J.T. Word officiating.

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Gardner died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born March 28, 1920, in Limestone County. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a former member of the Athens National Guard Unit. He was a retired truck driver and a member of the Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Odell Gardner; three stepsons, Donald Nixon of Chattanooga, and Jackie Nixon and David Nixon, both of Athens; two stepdaughters, Joyce Shelton of Scottsboro and Vickie Tucker of Athens; two brothers, Grover Gardner of Elkmont and David Gardner of Athens; three sisters, Carrie Deese of Cullman, and Lela Andrews and Edna McElyea, both of Athens; 10 step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Nixon, Mahlon Nixon, Brad Shelton, Gary Lovell, Brant Chapman and Jerry Tucker.

John F. Lenox
72, retired machine operator

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for John F. Lenox, 72, of Valhermoso Springs will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Valhermoso Holiness Church with the Rev. Melvin Brown and the Rev. Don Trosper officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Lenox died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born Sept. 23, 1927, in Morgan County to Godfrey D. Lenox and Mary A. Pack Lenox. He was a retired machine operator from Prestolite and a member of Valhermoso Holiness Church. He was the father of the late Doris Ann Lenox and the brother of the late Pauline Savage.

He is survived by his wife, Ola Lenox; three daughters, Ruth Ann Middleton of Somerville, and Judy Carol Lenox and Karen Darleen Lenox, both of Valhermoso Springs; five brothers, Richard Lenox and Elmer Lenox, both of Valhermoso Springs, Billy Lenox of Huntsville, Jerry Lenox of Missouri and Gene Lenox of Lacey's Spring; three sisters, Margie Persinger of Lacey's Spring, Linda Hill of Somerville and Sue Fielder of Valhermoso Springs; and two grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Lillian Louise Naylor
79, homemaker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Lillian Louise Naylor, 79, of Moulton will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Lindsey Hall Holy Church of Christ with Troy Smith and Willie Delashaw officiating.

Burial will be in Beulah Cemetery with Elliott Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Naylor died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Sept. 22, 1920, in Lawrence County. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by four sons, Jimmy Naylor and David Naylor, both of Moulton, Bobby Naylor of Hartselle and Paul Naylor of Madison; six daughters, Margaret Allen of Decatur, Cathy Naylor, Marjorie Kelley and Vickie Naylor, all of Moulton, Betty Osborn of Danville and Donna Asherbranner of Addison; two stepsons, Billy Ray Naylor of Moulton and Hurley Naylor of Athens; one stepdaughter, Joyce Faye Hembree of Decatur; three brothers, Robert Harris of Moulton, and Thomas Harris and William "Buster" Harris, both of Decatur; four sisters, Dolly Beck, Lorene McCaghren and Cora Mae Love, all of Moulton, and Beatrice Nolan of Decatur; 27 grandchildren; 19 step-grandchildren; 21 great-granchildren; 34 step-great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Billy Osborn, John Allen, Anthony Kelley, Gary Kelley, Jonathan Naylor, Elton Cooper, Jerry Naylor and Chris Ball.

Luther N. Pitts
70, retired supply manager

Funeral for Luther N. Pitts, 70, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Pitts died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born June 27, 1930, in Limestone County to the Rev. M.L. Pitts and Mae Boyd Pitts. He was a member of Lacey's Spring United Methodist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, and he served as junior vice commander. He was a member of the American Legion and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was retired from BAMSI, Inc. and the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a retired supply manager.

He is survived by his wife, Gay Nell Pitts; one son, Anthony Nathan Pitts Sr. of Birmingham; two daughters, Debra Batts of Nashville and Pamela Pitts Patterson of Lacey's Spring; two brothers, James M. Pitts of Collinwood, Tenn., and Bobby J. Pitts of Birmingham; one sister, Rose Darby of Huntsville; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Raymond Cleo Prince
77, U.S. Army veteran

Funeral for Raymond Cleo Prince, 77, of Trinity will be today at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Center Springs Cemetery.

Mr. Prince died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at Parkway Medical Center. He was born Aug. 22, 1922, in Wayne County, Tenn. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served for 9½ years.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Prince; one son, Raymond C. Prince Jr. of West Virginia; one daughter, Beverly Adams of Memphis; one stepson, Earl Reeves of Trinity; three stepdaughters, Martha Watkins of Somerville, Linda Ricketts of Flora City, Fla., and Faye Moore of Decatur; three brothers, Eudeen Prince, Hoyt Prince and Edward Prince, all of Russellville; and three sisters, Madgie Prince of Sheffield, Inez King of Ohio and Beatrice Prince of Russellville.

Pallbearers will be Jep Tallent, Jimmy Reeds, Blake Dozier, Bobby Cravens, Brandon Davis and Wayne Brooks.

Geneva Smith
82, homemaker, sales clerk

Graveside service for Geneva Smith, 82, of Zeeland, Mich., formerly of Morgan County, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Bethel Cemetery near Ardmore in Limestone County.

The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6 to 8 at the Bethel Church of Christ. Arrangements for cremation were made by Chappell Funeral Home in Michigan.

Mrs. Smith died June 27, 2000, at Haven Park Christian Nursing Home in Zeeland. She was born Jan. 19, 1918, in Colbert County. She was a homemaker and a sales clerk. She was the widow of Carl S. Smith and the mother of the late David C. Smith and Shirley Smith.

She is survived by two sons, Allen Smith and Michael Smith, both of Michigan; one daughter, Barbara Esquivel of Michigan; one brother, H.T. McCann of Athens; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Madeline Clement
73, homemaker
TUSCUMBIA -- Funeral for Madeline Clement, 73, of Russell-ville will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Morrison Funeral Home with the Rev. Leaborn McCarley officiating.

Burial will be in Bethsadia Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Clement died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at home. She was born May 10, 1927, in Colbert County to Claude Logan and Buelah Hester Logan. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

She is survived by her husband, Cecil E. Clement; five sons, Larry Clement of Moulton, Dwain Clement, Roger Clement and Greg Clement, all of Russellville, and Keith Clement of Satsuma; one daughter, Lawana South of Findley, Ohio; four brothers, Dalton Logan, Clifford Logan, Veston Logan and Maurice Logan, all of Leighton; five sisters, Rumell Cheatham, Helen Jeffreys and Nettie Kimbrough, all of Tuscumbia, Maxine Kizziah of Tuscaloosa and Joyce Rimmer of Milan, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Donavon Clement, Jason Clement, Patrick Clement, Brandon Clement, Tyson Clement and Terry Clement.

Robert 'Archie' Green haw
48, product engineer

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Robert "Archie" Green haw, 48, of Hartselle will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Robbie Stofel officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Green haw died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at his home. He was born Aug. 10, 1951, in Morgan County to Robert Green haw and Nova Goodson. He was a product engineer at Chore-Time/Brock Equipment Inc. in Priceville. He was an artist and photographer and attended Dogwood Community Church in Decatur.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Green haw; one daughter, Gina Green haw of Hartselle; his mother of Morgan City; and one sister, Diane Wood of Lacey's Spring.

Pallbearers will be Pat Halbrooks, Chris Penn, Jeff Taylor, Charles Lifer, Brian Bell and Kim Henderson.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Rosa Bell Lockhard
74, homemaker

Graveside service for Rosa Bell Lockhard, 74, of Decatur will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Leroy Clark Jr. officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Lockhard died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at her home. She was born Dec. 25, 1925, in Morgan County to Luke Clark and Annie Mae Warren. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Rowe Lockhard; one stepdaughter, Sarah Wyatt of Alaska; one sister, Dorothy Lyle of Huntsville; and two grandchildren.

Lillian Louise Naylor

Eddie Pressnell
96, retired farmer

ATHENS -- Funeral for Eddie Pressnell, 96, of Athens will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home in Athens with Eddie Gooch and Ray McElhaney officiating.

Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Pressnell died Monday, July 3, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born July 9, 1903, in Limestone County. He was a retired farmer and a member of Tanner United Methodist Church. He was the widower of Etna Leon Pressnell and the grandfather of the late Marty Pressnell and Jeffery Don McBay.

He is survived by one son, Eddie Kenneth Pressnell of Athens; one daughter, Mary Ann Scott of Athens; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Grady Swanner, Hershel Swanner, Travis Miles, Herman Swanner, Morris Swanner and Billy Swanner.

Lucille Young Roberts
82, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Lucille Young Roberts, 82, of Elkmont will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Steve Ferguson officiating.

Mrs. Roberts died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Dec. 30, 1917, in Limestone County to Archie Seay and Jewell Young Seay. She was a homemaker and a member of Elkmont Church of Christ. She was the mother of the late Tinsy Roberts and the sister of the late Ruby Tidwell and Archie Young Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Roberts.

Jeffrey Phillip Smith

Mr. Smith died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at his home. He was born Jan. 18, 1962, in Lawrence County to Huey Smith and Dorothy Smith. He was a construction worker.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila Pitts Smith of Holly Pond; two daughters, Jasha Smith of Holly Pond and Jedann Grimes of Decatur; one stepdaughter, Constance Pitts of Holly Pond; his mother of Moulton; two brothers, Christopher Smith of Moulton and Brian Smith of Decatur; three sisters, Sandra Daniels and Lori Smith, both of Moulton, and Pamela Smith of Decatur; and his grandmother, Ada Smith of Moulton.

Pallbearers will be Tim Daniel, Tracy Way, Rodney Hicks, Keith Smith, Phillip Reed and Scotty Reed.
