Funeral for Charles W. Looney, 73, of Hartselle will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Basham United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas E. Elder officiating.

Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery with Shelton Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Looney died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born March 12, 1927, in Morgan County to Monroe Looney and Belle Ballard Looney.

He was a member of Basham United Methodist Church and a retired maintenance foreman for Fruehauf, where he worked for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife, Omie Looney; one daughter, Jackie Garrett of Sapulpa, Okla.; one stepdaughter, Tammie Jones of Hartselle; two brothers, James Looney of Memphis and Billy Don Looney of Decatur; three sisters, Bea Woodall of Decatur, Ruby Justice of Florence and Hazel Bullard of Double Springs; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be James Lott, Thomas Shelton, Gary Foshee, Charles Heard, Larry Martin and Barry Martin.

Jesse Leon Yarbrough
75, retired owner, vice president of M & D Mechanical Contractors

ATHENS -- Funeral for Jesse Leon Yarbrough, 75, of Athens will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Inman officiating.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery with McConnell Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8:30 at the funeral home.

Mr. Yarbrough died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born April 20, 1925, in Limestone County. He was the retired owner and executive vice president of M & D Mechanical Contractors in Decatur. He was a member and a deacon of Fairview Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mauvoline S. Yarbrough; one son, Steve L. Yarbrough of East Limestone; one daughter, Maureen Y. Lokken of Mission Viejo, Calif.; three brothers, Dupree Yarbrough of Birmingham, David C. Yarbrough of Athens and Eugene Yarbrough of Eugene, Ore.; two sisters, Bernice Martin and Estelle Clem, both of Athens; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Lon Yarbrough, Michael Steber, Doug Garrison, Nicholas Perrins, Kenneth Prater, Millie Prater Steber, Molly Garrison and Alice Prater Perrins.

Neighbors and employees of M & D Mechanical Contractors will be honorary pallbearers.

James Luther Dodd Sr.
90, retired farmer
HALEYVILLE -- Funeral for James Luther Dodd Sr., 90, of Haleyville, formerly of Lynn, was to be today at 1 p.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home with the Rev. Sherman Kimbrough officiating.

Burial was to be in Lynn Cemetery.

Mr. Dodd died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Hendrix Health Care Center in Double Springs. He was born Dec. 22, 1909, in Natural Bridge to Mack Dodd and Janie Kennedy Dodd. He was a retired farmer and a member of Grace Baptist Church. He was the father of the late J.M. Dodd and the late Lathen Dodd.

He is survived by three sons, Garnette Dodd of Huntsville, James Dodd Jr. of Hamilton and Gene Dodd of Decatur; four sisters, Alice Baughn of Natural Bridge, Vera Dill of Birmingham, Gladys Williams of Haleyville and Dorothy Tittle of Crossroads; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ida Kate Hudson
83, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Ida Kate Hudson, 83, of Athens will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Joseph Allen officiating.

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hudson died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Jan. 10, 1917, in Georgia. She was a homemaker and member of St. Paul's Catholic Church. She was the widow of G.O. Hudson.

She is survived by one daughter, Robbie Huffman of Scottsboro; one brother, Travis Neighbors of Cullman; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Maple Madden
76, homemaker

Funeral for Maple Madden, 76, of Hillsboro will be Saturday at noon at Jerusalem Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Madden officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Dobbins Cemetery. The body will be at the church an hour before the service.

Mrs. Madden died July 26, 2000, at her residence. She was born Sept. 11, 1923, in Lauderdale County to Henry and Eddie Rollings. She raised as her own children, a nephew, Jammie Smith of Hillsboro, and two nieces, Dorothy Ann Jones and Angela Faye Pointer, both of Decatur.

She is survived by two daughters, Lorene Thorne and Clemateen Madden, both of Hillsboro; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

William Riley McDowell
77, retired mechanic and pastor

ATHENS -- Funeral for William Riley McDowell, 77, of Athens will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Vernon Dunn officiating.

Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. McDowell died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Nov. 1, 1922, in Etowah County. He was a retired mechanic and a World War II Army veteran. He was a member and former pastor of the Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Frances McDowell; three sons, Tommy McDowell of Rainbow City, Jimmy McDowell of Birmingham and Joe McDowell of Snead; one daughter, Linda Williams of Prattville; two step-sons, Paul Robertson and Michael Robertson, both of Athens; a half-brother, Perry Hammett of Atlanta, Ga.; a half-sister, Daisy Morris of California; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Jackie Sherrill

Funeral arrangements for Jackie Sherrill, 72, of Decatur, who died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, will be announced by Shelton Funeral Home.

Ruth Puckett Archer Southern
84, retired Baptist Memorial Hospital employee

GADSDEN -- Funeral for Ruth Puckett Archer Southern, 86, of Gadsden was to be today at 11 a.m. at Collier-Butler Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Ferguson officiating.

Burial was to be in Forrest Cemetery in Gadsden.

Mrs. Southern died Monday, July 24, 2000, in Mobile. She was born March 22, 1916, in Mobile to Daniel Harrison Puckett and Louisa Caldonia Dockery Puckett.

She had lived in the Gadsden area most of her life and was a member of the Goodyear Heights Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of Baptist Memorial Hospital and the widow of T.C. Archer, Jr. and James Fred Southern.

She is survived by one son, James Anthony Southern of Gadsden; five daughters, Lila Kay of Hartselle, Sara Lynn Andrews of Mobile, Dianne Lowe and Wanda Allen, both of Gadsden, and Janice Blue of Florida; one brother, Ernest Puckett of Hokes Bluff; two sisters, Ada Peacock of Gadsden and Ella McCoy of Hokes Bluff; 13 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be James Wells, Joe Morgan, Howard Helms, Buddy Daughtery, Irby Butler and Allen Champion.

William Woodrow 'Woody' Vandiver
84, retired mechanic

CULLMAN -- Graveside service for William Woodrow 'Woody' Vandiver, 84, of Cullman was to be today at 2 p.m. at Cullman City Cemetery with Larry Nail officiating and Williams-McCracken Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Vandiver died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 28, 1915, in Cullman to William Thomas Vandiver and Melinda Ellen Mullins Vandiver. He was a retired mechanic with Fromhold Vending Co.

He is survived by his wife, Flora Anderson Vandiver; one son, William T. Vandiver of Decatur; one daughter, Lisa Jones of Cullman; one sister, Adelia Nail of Cullman; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Ruby Irene Clem
88, nursing home retiree

ARDMORE - Funeral for Ruby Irene Clem, 88, of Elkmont will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Boyd's Chapel United Methodist Church with Steven Wright and Willie Earl officiating.

Burial will be in Sylone Cemetery in Elkmont with Taylor Ardmore Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Clem died Thursday, July, 27, 2000, at NHC Health Care in Pulaski, Tenn. She was born Aug. 20, 1911, in Elkmont. She was a member of Boyd's Chapel United Methodist Church and a former employee of Limestone Nursing Home. She was the widow of Daris Clem and the mother of the late Mary Ann Beeler.

She is survived by one son, Harold D. Clem of Elkmont; one daughter, Lila Ruth Shields of Toledo, Ohio; one sister, Mildred Thomas of Elkmont; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Grandsons will be pallbearers.

HARTSELLE - Funeral arrangements for Lloyd Thomas Jones, 89, of Hartselle, who died Friday, July 28, 2000, at Falkville Healthcare Center, will be announced by Peck Funeral Home.

Lera Vergie Partridge
84, homemaker

HARTSELLE - Funeral for Lera Vergie Partridge, 84, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Enmondfield Baptist Church in Winston County with Gary Driver and Glenn Wood officiating.

Burial will be in Enmondfield Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Partridge died Friday, July 28, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Sept. 11, 1915, in Winston County to Liller Margaret Wheeler Hightower and Joseph Martin Hightower. She was a homemaker. She was the widow of Lloyd Malford Partridge and the mother of the late Nellie Juanita Allen.

She is survived by two sons, Melton Joseph Partridge of Addison and Jerry Charlie Partridge of Athens; one brother, Quinton Hightower of Arley; four sisters, Verna Denton and Maitlen Moore, both of Addison, Venus Andrews of Double Springs and Wonza Sides of Redding, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.

Jackie Sherrill
72, head housekeeper

Funeral for Jackie Sherrill, 72, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home. Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sherrill died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham. She was head housekeeper at Falkville Nursing Home.

She is survived by one son, Pat Sherrill of Hanceville; one brother, Sonny Wells of Cullman; one sister, Ophelia Holland of Decatur; and one grandson.

Emily Jane Hughes
89, Pentagon retiree

Graveside service for Emily Jane Hughes, 89, of Moulton will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Moulton City Cemetery with Darryl Woods officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Hughes died Friday, July 28, 2000, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born Nov. 13, 1910, in Lawrence County to William Newton Gentry and Mary Elizabeth Aaron Gentry. She was a member of Moulton Baptist Church and retired after serving 40 years with the Department of the Navy at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. She was the widow of Charles Hughes and the sister of the late Razzie Gentry, Luther Gentry, Arthur Gentry, Lonnie Gentry, Otis Gentry, Fred Gentry, Linnie McMillan and Winnie Adair.

She is survived by three nephews, Wayne Gentry of Moulton, Carl Gentry of Moulton and Fred Douglas Gentry of Florence, Ark.; and three nieces, Bettye Gonzalez of Moulton and Peggy Gentry Allen of Shawnee, Okla.

Pallbearers will be Harlon Joyner, Gentry Gonzalez, Eduardo Gonzales, Greg Gentry, John Haroin and Sonny Royer.
