Kenneth Eugene 'Kenny' Schramm
69, company vice president

TUSCUMBIA -- Funeral for Kenneth Eugene 'Kenny" Schramm, 69, of Sheffield will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Shoals Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick Tierney officiating.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery with Morrison Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Schramm died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Helen Keller Hospital. He was born May 5, 1931, in Hammond, Ind., to Harry Schramm and Ruth Scherer Schramm. He graduated from Bishop Noll Institute and attended Purdue University, Calumet Center. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was in the metal brokerage business for 44 years, employed by U.S. Reduction Co. in Russellville and Alabama Aluminum Alloys in Sheffield, where he retired as vice president and resident broker. The company is a subsidiary of Tennessee Valley Recycling, LLC, formerly Denbo Iron and Metal. He was a member of Our Lady of the Shoals Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and Sheffield Rotary Club.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Vera Minelli Schramm; one son, Douglas Schramm of Florence; three daughters, Linda Taylor of Birmingham, Diane Alexander of Sheffield and Anita Conner of Muscle Shoals; one sister, Dolores Garastik of Griffith, Ind.; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Our Lady of the Shoals Memorial Fund, 200 North Commons, Tuscumbia, AL 35674; Hospice of the Shoals, 1106 Bradshaw Drive, Florence, AL 35630; or a favorite charity.

Ruby Louise Smith
66, poultry inspector

MOULTON -- Funeral for Ruby Louise Smith, 66, of Moulton will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with Charles Foreman officiating.

Burial will be in Jones Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Smith died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born Sept. 29, 1933, in Lawrence County to Pittman Letson and Maggie Letson. She was an inspector for Wayne Poultry.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Ray Nelson of Decatur and Stephen Oneal Nelson of Benton, Ky.; three daughters, Angel Mary Speakman of Decatur, Carol Lyell of Moulton and Wanda Baird of San Diego; one brother, Joel D. Letson of Moulton; and two sisters, Lois Harville of Moulton and Doris "Dot" Henson of Tennessee.

Pallbearers will be Tim Harville, Greg Dutton, John Paul Richy, Alton Terry, Shawn Hamby and Kevin Letson.

Lorene Stroup
86, business owner

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Lorene Stroup, 86, of Hartselle will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. W.G. Henry officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stroup died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at her home. She was born May 30, 1914, in Morgan County to Theodore Jefferson Weaver and Nancy Modell Weaver. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hartselle, where she was in the Groover Sunday school class. She was a business owner and the widow of John Cecil Stroup.

Survivors included one daughter, Nancy Tanner of Hartselle; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Fred Langston, Bobby Halbrooks, Edward Teague, Blake Tanner, Jeff Hilliar and Johnny Lott.

Mary B. White

GADSDEN -- Funeral for Mary B. White, 83, of Walnut Grove will be Friday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Walnut Grove.

The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6 to 8 at Collier-Butler Funeral Home.

Mrs. White died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000. She was the mother of Dr. David White of Decatur.

William B. Woodfin

73, retired rural mail carrier, service station owner

ATHENS -- Funeral for William B. Woodfin, 73, of Athens will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with the Rev. Dusty McLemore and the Rev. Dr. Aaron Johnson officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Woodfin died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born June 12, 1927, in Decatur. He was a retired rural mail carrier, and owned and operated Woodfin Gulf Service Station in Athens. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and served in the South Pacific. During retirement, he worked as a volunteer for the Department of Human Resources and Care Assurance System for the Aged and Homebound. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion and the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Bessie Marie Woodfin; two sons, John B. Woodfin of Montgomery and W. Harold Woodfin of Athens; one daughter, Phyllis Woodfin Borum of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; two brothers, Hubert Woodfin of Ardmore and J. T. Woodfin of Harvest; one sister, Lou Emma Owen of Elkmont; and six grandsons.

Pallbearers will be Clint Borum, Phillip Woodfin, Brad Woodfin, Cory Borum, Adam Woodfin and John Woodfin.

Memorials may be made to Alabama Sheriffs Youth Ranch, American Cancer Society or a favorite charity.

Corinne Verner Hardwick
Retired comptroller

Graveside service for Corinne Verner Hardwick, of Boise, Idaho, formerly of Decatur, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with the Rev. W.K. Stephenson officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hardwick died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, in Boise. She was born in Decatur to Joseph Daniel Verner and Birdie Caine Verner. She was a member of First Baptist Church and attended Auburn University and LaSalle University in Chicago. She was a comptroller for Mutual Savings Life Insurance Co. until retiring in 1959 after 32 years of service. She served on the Mutual Savings board of directors and was listed in the World Who's Who of Women. She was a member of the Decatur Women's Chamber of Commerce and the Pilgrimage Committee of Decatur. She was the widow of Charles G. Hardwick Jr.

She is survived by one daughter, Bess Beaty Turner of Huntsville; one stepson, Travis W. Hardwick of Decatur; one brother, James Daniel Verner of Slidell, La.; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, American Heart Association or a favorite charity.

Jacquelyn S. Johnson
54, registered nurse

TRINITY -- Funeral for Jacquelyn S. Johnson, 54, of Trinity will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Harrison officiating.

Burial will be in Bald Knob Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Johnson died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born July 23, 1946, in Galesburg, Ill., to Alvin Frye and Dorothy Frye. She was a registered nurse and a member of New Center Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Johnson; two sons, Tony Johnson of the Falkland Islands and Jimmy R. Johnson II of Decatur; three daughters, Deborah Bomar of Hartselle, and Stephanie Sparks and Cynthia Johnson, both of Trinity; her parents of Trinity; and one sister, Emma Jean King of Moulton.

Pallbearers will be Scott Nelson, Jamie Harris, David Sparks, Leroy Wagg Jr., Eddie Gatica and Jeffrey Sherrill Jr.

Roosevelt 'Red Baby' Kelly Jr.
51, shipping clerk

Funeral for Roosevelt "Red Baby" Kelly Jr., 51, of Decatur, formerly of Chattanooga, will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Reynolds Funeral Home with Johnny Crowder officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Kelly died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born May 31, 1949, in Morgan County to Roosevelt Kelly Sr. and Lucille Smith Kelly. He was a shipping clerk for Siskin Steel and Supply Co. Inc. in Chattanooga. A paraplegic, he was named employee of the year because of his innovative modifications to equipment so he could be more independent. He was a member of Resurrected Church of Chattanooga, a graduate of Lakeside High School and attended Morristown College in Morristown, Tenn.

He is survived by his wife, Melba Austin Kelly of Chattanooga; two daughters, Stephanie Kelly and Letisha Kelly, both of Johnson City, Tenn.; one brother, Jimmie Smith of Detroit, Mich.; and one sister, Annie Wilkerson of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Floyd Boulden, Mario Campbell, Dewayne Campbell, Jerry Swopes, Levi Nance Jr., Servon Gilbert and Daryl Elliott.

Bessie Mae Matlock
74, Leighton native

Funeral for Bessie Mae Matlock, 74, of Lexington, S.C., will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight and Friday night from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Matlock died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, in South Carolina. She was born in Leighton to Joseph Cameron and Lula Wimberly Cameron.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald P. Matlock of Gilbert, S.C., and Douglas Lynn Matlock of Lake Orion, Mich.; three daughters, Patricia Redmond of Santa Monica, Calif., Patsy Knight of Piedmont, S.C., and Pamela Reetz of Dillon, S.C.; one sister, Edith Glenn of Decatur; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Lillie Ellis Matthews
97, educator/salon owner

Funeral for Lillie Ellis Matthews, 97, of Decatur will be Saturday at noon at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Edward Owens officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Matthews died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Feb. 8, 1903, in Hale County to Robert Ellis and Clarissa Alexander Ellis. She retired from Decatur City Schools, where she taught fourth grade. She was owner of Lillie's Beauty Shop of Decatur.

Survivors include three sons, William M. Matthews II and Ollie Matthews, both of Dayton, Ohio, and James Matthews of Huntsville; two daughters, Delores Thompson of Huntsville and Vivian Horton of Decatur; 22 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Silas Alvin Payne
77, Lawrence native

MOULTON -- Funeral for Silas Alvin Payne, 77, of Moulton was Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Smyrna Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Jones, the Rev. Charles Claborn and the Rev. Neal Blaxton officiating and Elliott Funeral Home directing.

Burial was in Smyrna Cemetery.

Mr. Payne died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at Parkway Medical Center. He was born Jan. 28, 1923, in the Mountain Home community of Lawrence County.

Survivors include five daughters, Vivian Noven and Jeanette Mears, both of Moulton, Barbara Douglas and Jounita Parker, both of Town Creek, and Charlotte Cowart of Trinity; one brother, Robert Payne of Town Creek; three sisters, Frances Lang of Arkansas, Orene Stewart of Town Creek and Stella Rowly of Kalamazoo, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Timmy Ordeal, Alan Graham, Norman Graham, David Green , Charles Richardson, Claude Richardson and James Copeland.

Minnie Carter Rose
91, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Minnie Carter Rose, 91, of Athens will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Warren Glass officiating.

Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery at Pulaski, Tenn. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rose died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Athens Convalescent Center. She was born May 11, 1909, in Limestone County to Luther Pitts and Eliza Coffman Pitts. She was a homemaker and a member of East Hill Church of Christ. She was the widow of Russell Carter and the mother of the late Charles "Billy" Carter.

Survivors include three daughters, Emma Jean McGill of Pulaski, Betty Shirl Pullen of Athens and Sarah Joy Hargrove of Ardmore, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tony Carter, Greg Hargrove, Jackie Carter, Tom Passion, Steve McGill, Matthew Passion, Jeff McGill and Alex McGill.
