Cynthia Ruth Shirley

Funeral for Cynthia Ruth Shirley, 55, of Decatur will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Buddy Champion officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Miss Shirley died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Jan. 1, 1945, in Pensacola, Fla., to Dewitt Shirley and Cynthia Glenn Shirley. Her hobbies included drawing and playing the piano.

Survivors include her mother of Decatur; two brothers, Charles Shirley and Jim Shirley, both of Marietta, Ga.; and three sisters, Susan Browning of Montgomery, Laura Percer of Huntsville and Margaret Wiginton of Warrior.

Ruby Louise Smith
66, poultry inspector

MOULTON -- Funeral for Ruby Louise Smith, 66, of Moulton was to be today at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with Charles Foreman officiating.

Burial was to be in Jones Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born Sept. 29, 1933, in Lawrence County to Pittman Letson and Maggie Letson. She was an inspector for Wayne Poultry. She was the sister of the late J.E. Letson, McKinley Letson and Annie Lee Terry.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Ray Nelson of Decatur and Stephen Oneal Nelson of Benton, Ky.; three daughters, Angel Marie Speakman of Decatur, Carol Lyell of Moulton and Wanda Baird of San Diego; one brother, Joel D. Letson of Moulton; and two sisters, Lois Harville of Moulton and Doris "Dot" Henson of Tennessee; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Tim Harville, Greg Dutton, John Paul Ziak, Alton Terry, Shawn Hamby and Kevin Letson.

Marilyn Joye Stover
62, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Marilyn Joye Stover, 62, of Decatur will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with Wayne Stover and the Rev. Estes Hardin officiating.

Burial will be in Stroupe Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stover died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Jan. 16, 1938, in Santa Maria, Calif., to Homer Hurt and Ruth Adams Hurt. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Charles E. Stover; three sons, Steven Hurt of Portland, Ore., Charles V. Stover of Moulton and Kevin E. Stover of Decatur; five daughters, Donna Carr of Muscle Shoals, Cary Kenney of Trinity, Charlene Young of St. Petersburg, Fla., Melody Hill of Moulton and Tammy Green of Baton Rouge, La.; one brother, David Hurt of Reno, Nev.; 23 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Kilpatrick, Jason Kilpatrick, Chris Kilpatrick, Carson Carr, Johnathon Carr, Michael Carr and Kevin E. Stover II.

Memorials may be made to organizations that support cancer research.

Mary Bradford White
83, homemaker

GADSDEN -- Funeral for Mary Bradford White, 83, of Walnut Grove will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Walnut Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tolan Whitten and the Rev. Wayne Nesbitt officiating.

Burial will be in Walnut Grove-Altoona Cemetery with Collier-Butler Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. White died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at home. She was born June 15, 1917, in Etowah County to Cecil E. Bradford and Hattie Summers Bradford. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Walnut Grove. She was a member of Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and served as pianist for many years. She was a member of the Lion's Club and Blount County Home Demonstration Club, and a former member of the Eastern Star. She was the widow of Harold L. White.

Survivors include one son, Dr. W. David White of Decatur; two daughters, Ann Davidson of Guntersville and Martha Thompson of Gadsden; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tom Thompson, Charles Stanley, Burke Lindsey, Jim Holbrook, Jeff Copeland and Tom Bradford.

Memorials may be made to Walnut Grove United Methodist Church.

Betty Lou Bowen
60, homemaker
Graveside service for Betty Lou Bowen, 60, of Decatur was to be today at 4 p.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Ziegler officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Bowen died Thursday, Aug. 17, at Lewis County Manor in Columbia, Tenn. She was born April 5, 1940, in Albertville to Robert Lee Bowen and Mallie O'Malley Bowen. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

She is survived by three sons, Barry V. Ziegler and Larry L. Ziegler, both of Decatur, and Gary W. Ziegler of Boston, Mass.; two brothers, Benny Bowen of Gadsden and Paul Bowen of Conroe, Texas; one sister, Josephine Stephens of Cleveland, Texas; and four grandchildren.

Kittye F. Ellis
66, homemaker

Graveside service for Kittye F. Ellis, 66, of Decatur will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with the Rev. Truman Harris officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ellis died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born July 28, 1934, in Sandersville, Ga. She was a homemaker, a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and secretary to the Morgan County Circuit Court judge. She was the daughter of the late Col. Richard French.

She is survived by her husband, John Ray Ellis Sr.; one son, John Ray Ellis Jr. of Decatur; two daughters, Julie Ellis of Atlanta, Ga., and Jann Ellis Thomas of Decatur; her mother, Mervyn Shafer of Decatur; and her stepfather, Scott Shafer of Decatur; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Paul Thomas, John Templeton, Steve Harris, J.B. Ellis, Joey Parker and Wendyl Holbert.

Mary Inez Goree
92, retired postal clerk

Graveside service for Mary Inez Goree, 92, of Decatur will be Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. W.K. Stephenson officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Miss Goree died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at home. She was born Dec. 29, 1907, in Decatur to John Thomas Goree and Margaret Simpson Goree. She was a lifelong resident of Decatur, a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, and a retired postal clerk with the U.S. Postal Service.

She is survived by two nieces, the Rev. Carol Odom Vickery of Decatur and Evelyn Odom Perry of Elsberry, Mo.; two nephews, Joel Wayne Goree of Decatur and Donald Ray Odom of San Diego, Calif.

Dallas W. Hames Sr.
89, retired Pet Milk Company employee

TRINITY -- Funeral for Dallas W. Hames Sr., 89, of Trinity will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. George Harmon and the Rev. Neal Culberson officiating.

Burial will be in Caddo Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hames died Wednesday, Aug, 16, 2000, at his home. He was born Nov. 11, 1910, in Lawrence County to Wallace Hames and Sadie Hames. He was a member of Caddo United Methodist Church for 75 years and a retired employee of the Pet Milk Company, where he worked for 16 years. He was the widower of Mae Whitlow Hames.

Survivors include three sons, George Edwin Hames of Decatur, W.T. Hames of Hartselle and Dallas W. Hames Jr. of Trinity; two daughters, Marie Phillips and Jane Micklow, both of Trinity; 11 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Alton Hames, Randy Wright, Joe Payne, Tim Micklow, Steve Hames, Rick Hames, Matthew Hames and Todd Davis.

Bobby 'Teddy Bear' Hood
49, truck driver

ADDISON -- Funeral for Bobby "Teddy Bear" Hood, 49, of Addison was to be today at 2 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home with the Rev. Derrick Sherrill officiating.

Burial was to be in Northside Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Hood died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, in Jackson, Miss. He was born Nov. 19, 1950, in Moulton to James Hood and Lola Grace Hembree Hood. He was a truck driver for MH Transport of Double Springs. He was the grandfather of the late Joel Wayne Hood.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Isbell Hood; five daughters, Lisa Moore of Pinson, Paula Weaver of Oneonta, Rita Fuller of Good Hope, Kim Perry of Remlap and Karen Holmes of Addison; two brothers, David J. Hood of Loretto, Tenn., and James R. Hood of Palm Springs, Calif.; his mother of Addison; and 10 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Shawn Holmes, Troy Parker, Shane Perry, Bobby Weaver, Roger Moore, Ronnie Vigor and Charles Watts.

Karen Judith Clawson Moore
64, antique dealer

Funeral for Karen Judith Clawson Moore, 64, of Decatur will be Sunday at 5 p.m. at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Randon Jackson officiating.

Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Roselawn Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends before the service Sunday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the church.

Mrs. Moore died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Nov. 6, 1935, in Chicago, Ill., to Walter Edwin Clawson and Ruth Helen Paulson Clawson. She owned and operated Antiques and Moore in Hartselle. She taught school in Oak Park, Ill. She was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her husband, John H. Moore; two sons, John H. Moore Jr. of Huntsville and Steven L. Moore of Los Angeles; two daughters, Sherry Lynn Moore Williamson of Los Angeles and Darlita Thompson of Waterloo, Iowa; two sisters, Faith Svensson of Madison, Wis., and Phyllis Lucht of Milwaukee.; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Charles Moore Jr., Haines Roberts, Malcom Posey, Timothy Moore, John Newbill, Lawrence Williamson, Tom VanNatta, and John Abbott.

Mrs. Bradford died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born Jan. 27, 1913, in Winston County. She was a homemaker and the widow of Howard Bradford.

Survivors include two sons, E.H. Bradford of Moulton and Clinton Bradford of Town Creek; three daughters, Verna Vines and Debra Martin, both of Town Creek, and Doris Compton of Decatur; four sisters, Ora Briley, Berchie Kerby, Azilee Scoggin and Hazel Kerby, all of Town Creek; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Justin Bradford, Jeff Vines, Freddy Glasgow, Vernon Parker, Heath Martin and David Briley.

Mary Catherine Burgreen
83, Burgreen Contracting co-founder, Limestone probate judge

ATHENS -- Funeral for Mary Catherine Burgreen, 83, of Athens will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Athens with the Rev. Aaron Johnson and the Rev. Mark Johnson officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with McConnell Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Burgreen died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born April 3, 1917, in Madison County. She was the co-founder of Burgreen Contracting Co. in 1947. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Colonial Dames, Ladies Civitan, American Red Cross, RSVP board of directors and American Association of Retired Persons. She was a member and charter chairperson of TRIAD, and she was the 1971-72 Woman of Achievement for the Athens Business and Professional Women's Club. She was inducted into the Alabama Senior Hall of Fame in 1989, and she was the first female probate judge in Limestone County, serving from 1978 to 1983. She was the widow of Edward Burgreen and mother of the late Billy Burgreen.

Survivors include two daughters, Jane Lusk and Freda Hays, both of Athens; one sister, Margaret Johnson Fugate of Athens; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.
