CULLMAN -- Funeral for Doyel Hunter Jones, 90, of Vinemont will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Gunter officiating.

Burial will be in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Jones died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at his home. He was born June 22, 1910, in Morgan County to Fred Jones and Ella Caudle Jones. He was a carpenter.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Bell Miller Jones; one son, Hershel L. Jones of Vinemont; one brother, Anthony Jones of Vinemont; two sisters, Oneida Enis of Decatur and Virginia Knop of Indianapolis; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Monroe Jefferson Kyle
73, retired construction worker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Monroe Jefferson Kyle, 73, of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Bo Grace officiating.

Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens with Spry Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Kyle died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at his home. He was born Nov. 14, 1926, in Limestone County. He was a retired construction worker and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Monroe J. Kyle Jr. and Dwight Kyle, both of Athens, and Michael Allen Kyle of New Market; four daughters, Ester Ruth Steelman and Teresa Pennington, both of Athens, Genny Pennington of Quinton and Debra Watson of Midfield; one sister, Ruth Lott of Athens; 39 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Monroe J. Kyle III, Brian White, Terry Abel Jr., Bill Watson Jr., Michael Kyle, Seth Kimbrough and Robert Pennington.

Mary Elizabeth Matheny
71, homemaker

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Funeral for Mary Elizabeth Matheny, 71, of Mishawaka, Ind., was Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home.

Mrs. Matheny died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at St. Joseph Community Hospital. She was born Dec. 23, 1928, in Lawrence County to Jesse M. Heaps and Nancy M. Heaps. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, Ray Anthony Matheny of Bremen, Ind.; two daughters, Vicky Winterrowd of Lakeville, Ind., and Nancy D. Williams of Trinity; two brothers, Alva Lee Heaps of Hartselle and Willard Heaps of Decatur; and one sister, Faye H. Schulze of South Bend.

Henry Mills Jr.

Graveside service for Henry Mills Jr., 65, of Decatur will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with the Rev. Cary Orr officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Mills died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born May 5, 1935, in Union, S.C.

Survivors include four daughters, Patricia Davis, Shirley Mills, Frances Mills, all of Union, and Patricia Rogers of Newark, N.J.; one sister, Martha Mills of Aliquippa, Pa.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Troy Porter

ATHENS -- Funeral for Troy Porter, 86, of Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., will be Monday at 11 a.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Steve Lamb officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Porter died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga. He was the son of Chaney Porter and Emma Porter. A Baptist, he was the father of the late Christine Porter Wooten and brother of the late Cordis Porter and Clyde Porter.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Drake Porter of Moulton; one son, Johnny Porter of Tiftonia, Tenn.; two daughters, Mary Daniels of Trenton, Ga., and Kay Byrd of Tiftonia; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Daniels, Duane Thompson, William Lamb, T.J. Wooten, Josh Wooten and Wayne Kessinger.

Mariana Thomas Stewart
Monsanto Co. retiree

ATHENS -- Funeral for Mariana Thomas Stewart of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Central Church of Christ with Ron Owens and Byron Davis officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with McConnell Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stewart died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at her home. She was born in Limestone County. She was a homemaker, and she retired from Monsanto Co. in 1994 after 38 years of service. She was a charter member of Central Church of Christ and recently worked at Cluxton's Jewelers in Athens. She was the daughter of the late R.R. "Dick" Thomas and sister of the late Judith Thomas Posey.

Survivors include her husband, Gene Stewart; two sons, Rocky Stewart of Birmingham and Steven Stewart of Athens; her mother, Mamie H. Thomas of Athens; one sister, Dolores Freeman of Athens; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Bailey, Tom Corum, Joel Davis, James Rich, William Martin, Hubert Crow, David Snoddy and James Agee.

Michael Everett 'Mike' Gardner
34, construction worker

Memorial service for Michael Everett "Mike" Gardner, 34, of Decatur will be today at 3 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with Larry Sturges and Tom Clackley officiating.

Graveside service will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Durden Cemetery in Prattville. The family will receive friends today from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Gardner died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, in Lawrence County. He was born June 22, 1966, in Montgomery. He was a graduate of Decatur High School and a self-employed construction worker.

Survivors include his father, William Larry Gardner of Decatur; his stepmother, Lynn C. Gardner of Decatur; his mother, Betty Lou Gardner of Montgomery; one brother, Jeffery Allen Gardner of Danville; and his grandmothers, Lucille Moseley of Pensacola, Fla., and Vesta Little of Ramer.

Artis Henderson
51, sheet metal worker/welder

ARAB -- Funeral for Artis Henderson, 51, of Union Hill will be Monday at 4 p.m. at New Canaan Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Galyean and the Rev. Steve Criscoe officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with Arab Memorial Chapel directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Henderson died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Nov. 3, 1948, in Hartselle. He was a sheet metal worker and welder for Sheet Metal Local 48 in Birmingham. He was a member of New Canaan Baptist Church and Clear Creek Hunting Club. He was the son of the late Roy Henderson.

Survivors include his wife, Carylon Henderson; two sons, Steve Henderson of Athens and Michael Henderson of Union Hill; his mother, Celestine Writesel of Union Hill; two brothers, Wesley Henderson and Joe Henderson, both of Union Hill; one sister, Sarah Fowler of Florette; and three grandchildren.

Nan Bone Parker
86, retired dietician

CULLMAN -- Graveside service for Nan Bone Parker, 86, of Oneonta will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Winterboro Cemetery in Talladega with the Rev. Jimmy Tidwell officiating and Williams-McCracken Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Parker died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at her home. She was born May 24, 1914, in Talladega to Jim H. Bone and Etta Elizabeth Richards Bone. She was a retired dietician from Talladega School of the Deaf and Blind.

Survivors include one son, Jerry L. Parker of Oneonta; one daughter, Genny Parker Norman of Doraville, Ga.; and two grandchildren.

David Gilbert Roberts
74, NASA retiree

ATHENS -- Funeral for David Gilbert Roberts, 74, of Athens will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Aaron Johnson officiating.

Burial will be in Sardis Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Roberts died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital.

He was born April 1, 1926, in Limestone County.

He was retired from NASA and was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was the father of the late David Kenneth Roberts.

Survivors include his wife, Dot Roberts; four daughters, Connie Patterson, Sharon Reynolds, Linda Paulk and Jo Ann Bauer, all of Athens; three brothers, J.C. Roberts of Gardendale, Joel A. Roberts and William Clayton Roberts, both of Athens; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

William Tandy Ryan

Funeral arrangements for William Tandy Ryan, 84, of Somerville, who died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at his home, will be announced by Sharpley Funeral Home.

Joshua Vickers

PRICEVILLE -- Funeral for Joshua Vickers, 19, of Priceville will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Priceville Funeral Home with George Sawyer and Glen Lee officiating.

Burial will be in New Grove Cemetery in Blanche, Tenn. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Vickers died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at his home.

He was born Aug. 18, 1981, in Huntsville. He was a student and a member of Calvary Assembly Church of God and its youth group.

Survivors include his parents, Terry G. and Karla M. Vickers of Priceville; one brother, Terry G. Vickers Jr. of Priceville; his grandfathers, John Vickers Sr. of East Limestone and Karl J. Klundt of Decatur; and his grandmothers, Elizabeth Bridges of Marietta, Ga., and Eloise C. Klundt of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Leonard French, Adam Young, Tristian Harper, Brian Walker, Randoll Williams and Justin Rhodes.

Opal 'Mamaw' Duncan Parris
83, Falkville Nursing Home retiree
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Opal "Mamaw" Duncan Parris, 83, of Falkville will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Partridge officiating.

Burial will be in Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Parris died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born Feb. 29, 1917, in Morgan County to Elbert Lawrence and Stella McReath Lawrence. She was a native of Falkville and retired from Falkville Nursing Home after 25 years of employment. She was the widow of J.D. Duncan and Phil Parris, the mother of the late Douglass Duncan and Debbie Brown, and the grandmother of the late Tommy Erfourth and Phillip Brown.

Survivors include three sons, Billy Duncan of Griffin, Ga., Eskel Gene Duncan of Hartselle and Frankie Duncan of Falkville; two daughters, Gail Dougherty and Judy Harms, both of Decatur; one brother, John Lawrence of Hartselle; three stepbrothers, Sonny Massey of Hartselle, and Jimmy Lawrence and Glen Lawrence, both of Cullman; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Family members will be pallbearers.

William Tandy Ryan
84, ConAgra retiree

Funeral for William Tandy Ryan, 84, of Decatur will be Tuesday at noon at Sharpley Funeral Home with the Rev. James Robinson officiating.

Burial will be in Sandhill Cemetery in Priceville.

Mr. Ryan died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at his home. He was born July 30, 1916, in Morgan County. He was a member and deacon at Sandhill Missionary Baptist Church, and a graduate of Morgan County Training School and Alabama A&M University. He was retired from ConAgra.

Survivors include one son, Robert Ryan of Priceville; two daughters, Gail Orr and Shelia Ryan, both of Decatur; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Deacons of Sandhill Missionary Baptist Church will be pallbearers.
