Guy H. Smith
89, retired truck driver

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Guy H. Smith, 89, of Decatur will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Howard A. Thompson and the Rev. Chris Godbee officiating.

Burial will be in Shoal Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at his home. He was born Aug. 25, 1910, in Lawrence County to William Henry Smith and Lucy Etta Smith. He was a retired truck driver for Pet Milk Co. in Decatur and was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Hartselle. He was the widower of Mary Bertha Clemons and the brother of the late Cordie Smith, Cleveland Smith, Burley Smith, Herbert Smith, Ruby Chenault and Flora Oliver.

Survivors include his wife, Sally R. Smith; two sons, Guy S. Smith of Russiaville, Ind., and the Rev. Charles W. Smith of Boaz; one daughter, Edna R. Johnson of Midland, Mich.; one stepdaughter, Carol Cole of Hartselle; one brother, Dathern Smith of Danville; five sisters, Ethel Brown, Molene Hampton, Lois Childers, Nellavine Glover and Madith Wright, all of Danville; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 216 Johnson St. S.E. Decatur, AL 35601.

Annie Irene Hampton Bodine
64, retired bookkeeper

HUNTSVILLE -- Memorial service for Annie Irene Hampton Bodine, 64, of Guntersville will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Epiphany in Guntersville, with Spry Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Bodine died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Jan. 11, 1936, in Limestone County to James William Hampton Sr. and Gladys Smith Hampton. A graduate of Huntsville High School, she was a bookkeeper at Redstone Federal Credit Union and retired from Family Security Credit Union in Decatur. She had lived in Guntersville for eight years.

Survivors include her husband, Grady Bodine; three sons, Matthew T. Pearsall of Decatur, Kevin E. Pearsall of Somerville and Grady Bodine Jr. of Rocky Mount, N.C.; two brothers, James W. Hampton Jr., and Franklin Darby Hampton, both of Huntsville; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Frances Bishop Fairbanks
82, homemaker

Funeral for Frances Bishop Fairbanks, 82, of Priceville will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Cecil Berry officiating.

Burial will be in New Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Fairbanks died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at home. She was born April, 28, 1918, in Morgan County to Erby Cleveland Bishop and Augusta McGee Bishop. She was a Baptist and a homemaker.

She is survived by five sons, Gaylon Fairbanks of Priceville, Don Fairbanks of Decatur, Eddy Fairbanks of Cleveland, Tenn., Mark Fairbanks of Lewisburg, Tenn., and Van Fairbanks of Hartselle; five daughters, Jackie Hendrix, Jan Partlow and Jean Jennings, all of Priceville, Jo Swaim of Athens and Brenda Gill of Franklin, Tenn.; one brother, Billy Bishop of Priceville; one sister, Annie Blagburn of Priceville; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be Steve Dobbs, Steven Staggs, Charles Taylor, Clyde Taylor, Bobby Taylor and John Patterson.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Anthony James Greathouse
Infant

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Anthony James Greathouse, 19 days, of Decatur will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home.

A graveside service also will be held at Roselawn Gardens of Memory in Decatur at 11 a.m.

The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 9 to 10 at the funeral home.

The infant died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at Children's Hospital in Birmingham. He was born Aug. 4, 2000, in Decatur.

Survivors include his mother, Jessica Greathouse of Decatur; his grandparents, James Greathouse of Dayton, Ohio, and Ramona Great-house of Decatur; his great-grandmother, Loretta Pierce of Hernando, Fla.; and his great-grandfather, Clifford Greathouse of Phoenix, Ariz.

Douglas Nelson Kelley

ATHENS -- Funeral for Douglas Nelson Kelley, 17, of Athens, was to be today at 3 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Mike Moore and Thomas Shrink officiating.

Burial was to be in Sandlin Cemetery.

Mr. Kelley died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Aug. 31, 1982, in Selma. He attended the Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Douglas Norman Kelley and the brother of the late James Richard Kelley, both of Athens.

Survivors include his mother, Shirley Kelley Brown of Elkmont; one stepfather, Johnny Brown of Elkmont; one brother, Douglas Norman Kelley of Athens; two sisters, Patricia Wilson of Athens and Christina Lewis of Billingsley; two grandmothers, Mary Lois Ray of Athens and Ella Little of Selma; one step-grandmother, Tilda Brown of Athens; and one great-grandmother, Lillie Coots of Athens.

Richard Manderscheid Leppert Sr.
82, retired U.S. Marine

ATHENS -- Funeral for Richard Manderscheid Leppert Sr., 82, of Athens will be tonight at 7 at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Davis and the Rev. Richard Leppert Jr. officiating.

Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery with a graveside service Aug. 30 at 9 a.m. The family will receive friends today, two hours before the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Leppert died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at his residence. He was born Jan. 24, 1918, in Alexander, N.D., and was retired as a master gunnery sergeant after 30 years in the U.S. Marine Corp. He was a member of Round Island Baptist Church and was the widower of Ida Mae Leppert, his first wife.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Leppert; three sons, Richard M. Leppert Jr. of Carlsbad, Calif., Robert Leppert of Panama City, Fla., and James Leppert of Conyers, Ga.; three daughters, Nancy Slaton of Orlando, Fla., Vickie Gonzalez of Mount Pleasant, Texas, and Sandra Leppert of Anaheim, Calif.; one stepson, Chuck Hardesty of Tampa, Fla.; four stepdaughters, Darlene Prather and Pam Dismuke, both of Louisville, Ky., Diane Dennis of Athens, and Nancy Conway of New Port, N.C.; two brothers, Gene Leppert of West Alton, Mo., and Lyle Leppert of Fritch, Texas;; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Round Island Baptist Church Building Fund.

Doug McKoy
54, Saginaw retiree

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Doug McKoy, 54, of Priceville was to be today at 2 p.m. at Logan Baptist Church with John McKoy officiating and Moss Service Funeral Home directing.

Mr. McKoy died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Dec. 15, 1945, in Morgan County to Ruth Williamson McKoy and J.R. McKoy. He was a retired machine repairman for Saginaw Steering Systems, now Delphi Automotive Systems.

He is survived by one son, Alan McKoy of Priceville; one daughter, Tracy McKoy of Priceville; two brothers, Hugh McKoy of Cullman and John McKoy of Logan; two sisters, Kathryn Trimble of Birmingham and Brenda Thomas of Crane Hill; and three grandchildren.

Willie Hudson Miller

ATHENS -- Funeral for Willie Hudson Miller, 74, of Decatur, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home. Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Miller died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at his home.

Complete arrangements will be announced by the funeral home.

George David Moran
76, former farmer and retired Con-Agra employee

ATHENS -- Funeral for George David Moran, 76, of Athens will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Guy McDaniel officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Moran died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Feb. 15, 1924, in Limestone County. He was a farmer and a retired Con-Agra employee. He was a member of O'Neal Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Adams Moran; two sons, Dwight Moran and Dewey Moran, both of Athens; four sisters, Katherine Baugher, Dean Barnett, Martha Taylor and Faye Sims, all of Athens; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Grandsons and nephews will be pallbearers.

Josephine Smith
66, Lawrence County native

Funeral for Josephine Smith, 66, of Decatur will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Red Bank Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Sparks officiating and Sharpley Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Troupe Cemetery. The body will be in the church one hour before the service Saturday.

Mrs. Smith died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born May 30, 1934, in Lawrence County to Mr. and Mrs. Freddie Manning. She was a member of Red Bank Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur Smith Jr.; one son, William Earl Smith of Detroit, Mich.; four daughters, Betty Garth, Gwenda Goblisch, Teresa Woods and Barbara Bolling, all of Decatur; one sister, Maylean Wilson of Johnson City, Tenn.; 11 stepchildren; six grandchildren; 20 step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will be pallbearers.

Madison Kennedy Wells

ATHENS -- Funeral for Madison Kennedy Wells, 2, of Madison was to be today at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Wells and the Rev. Donald Clem officiating.

Burial was to be in Copeland Cemetery.

Miss Wells died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at home. She was born March 6, 1998, in Huntsville.

Survivors include her parents, Ronald and Amy Wells of Madison; one brother, Christian Wells of Madison; her grandparents, Shelia Earnest of Vicksburg, Miss., Rick Earnest of Mt. Olive, N.C., and Ronald and Betty Wells of Harvest.

Oliver K. 'Buddy' Bates
74, retired tradesman

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Oliver K. "Buddy" Bates, 74, of Hartselle will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. DeWitt Crowe officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Bates died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born April 7, 1926, in Cullman County to John Flemon Bates and Ethel Mae Lancaster Bates. He was a paratrooper in the Army during World War II and retired as a tradesman from Delco Chassis in Sanduskey, Ohio, after 38 years.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Bates; two sons, Rodney Bates of Huron, Ohio, and Mickey Bates of North Olmsted, Ohio; one stepson, William Blackert Jr. of Bucyrus, Ohio; three daughters, Nina Bates and Deborah Berger, both of Westlake, Ohio, and Robin Haines of Highland Heights, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Christina Lynn Blackert of Bucyrus; four brothers, Jasper Bates of New London, Ohio, Lester Bates of Milan, Ohio, Jim Bates of Norwalk, Ohio, and John N. Bates of Hartselle; three sisters, Peggy Bennett of Valley City, Ohio, Pat Allen of Lebanon Junction, Ky., and Christine Capezzi of Sanduskey, Ohio; and 14 grandchildren.

Brian S. Bowen
28, former audio technician

Memorial service for Brian S. Bowen, 28, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Central Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Craig Carlisle officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Bowen died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at his parents' home. He was born March 21, 1972, in Decatur. He was a 1990 graduate of Hartselle High School and a 1994 graduate of Full Sail Center for the Recording Arts in Orlando, Fla. He worked at GTE in Nashville as an audio technician and was a member of Central Park Baptist Church. He was the grandson of the late Willard L. Bowen.

Survivors include his parents, Buck and Judy McKenzie Bowen of Priceville; one sister, Mandy Bowen Hill of Anniston; and his grandparents, James and Geraldine McKenzie of Priceville and Mattie L. Meikus of Decatur.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley or a cancer charity.
