Van Buren Brock
82, retired upholsterer

ATHENS -- Funeral for Van Buren Brock, 82, of East Limestone will be today at 3 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Carl Witty officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Brock died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born July 24, 1918, in Limestone County to A.E. Brock and Thellie Clem Brock. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, a member of Sardis Springs Church of Christ and a retired self-employed upholsterer. He was the brother of the late Omie Sterling.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Barnes Brock; one son, David Brock of Toney; one daughter, Robin Lovell of Harvest; two brothers, John Edd Brock of Detroit and Ronald Brock of Decatur; four sisters, Ruby Dell Adcock of Nashville, Edith Smith of Columbia, Tenn., Nora Bauer of Detroit and Mabel Brock of Dothan; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Elton Abernathy, James Bobo, Edward Bailey, Leander Bailey, Tom Bailey and Carl David Sterling.

Rossie G. Eugas
96, homemaker

Funeral for Rossie G. Eugas, 96, of Decatur will be today at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Elder and the Rev. Virgil Calhoun officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Eugas died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Feb. 2, 1904, in Morgan County to Walter Lane and Patty McCulloch Lane. She was a homemaker, a member of Basham United Methodist Church and a former member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Riggs and Lois Powell, both of Decatur; one brother, Harold Lane of Hartselle; two sisters, Thelma "Bill" Puckett of Hartselle and Laverne Jones of Decatur; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Danny Riggs, Greg Herron, David Riggs, Craig Wipperman, Marvin Herron and Richard Templeton.

Glenda R. Goodwin
50, retired schoolteacher

TRENTON, Ga. -- Funeral for Glenda R. Goodwin of Trenton, formerly of Decatur, will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home with the Rev. John Smith and the Rev. Jack Bounds officiating.

Burial will be in Lake Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends today from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Goodwin died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at Memorial Hospital. She was born Aug. 9, 1950, in Chattanooga to William H. "Bill" Reeves and Nellie Viola Reeves. She retired as a teacher from Decatur City Schools and was a member of the National Education Association, the Alabama Education Association and Decatur Baptist Church. She was the sister of the late Glenn Reeves.

Survivors include her husband, James Denton Goodwin; one son, Mark Goodwin of Hattiesburg, Miss.; her mother of Trenton; two brothers, Anthony Emanuel of Memphis and Raymond Emanuel of Oxford; and one sister, Annette Broom of Lookout Mountain, Tenn.

Arvil D. McLemore
73, World War II veteran

ATHENS -- Funeral for Arvil D. McLemore, 73, of Athens will be today at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Rodney Britton officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Pisgah Cemetery.

Mr. McLemore died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at home. He was born Aug. 29, 1926, in Athens to Villard McLemore and Mamie Walker McLemore. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Cartwright Church of Christ. He was the father of the late Linda Diane McLemore.

Survivors include his wife, Beulah Lentz McLemore; one brother, Gary McLemore of Athens; and four sisters, Alice Haggard, Martha Joyce Patterson and Kathryn York, all of Athens, and Wanda Boyd Joines of Elkmont.

Pallbearers will be Gary Wayne McLemore Jr., Allen Lankster, Chris McNatt, Josh McNatt, Gerald Hargrove, Michael McLemore and Tim Boyd.

James Aden 'Grand Jim' Merchant II
73, retired manager

Graveside service for James Aden "Grand Jim" Merchant II, 73, of Trinity will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Burningtree Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Steve Caudle officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Merchant died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at Parkway Medical Center. He was born Aug. 31, 1926, in Lancaster, S.C., to James Aden Merchant and Ethel Hancock Mer-chant. He retired as administration manager of projects for Fluor-Daniel Construction Co. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 63 of Blackville, S.C., and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason of San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Merchant; one son, James A. Merchant III of Santa Fe, New Mexico; one daughter, Jean Cross of Trinity; two sisters, Kay George and Mary Ligon, both of Rock Hill, S.C.; and four grandchildren.

Members of Decatur Rising Sun Masonic Lodge No. 29 will be pallbearers.

Etoile R. Smith
82, homemaker

Funeral for Etoile R. Smith, 82, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. J.B. Snyder officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Smith died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Oct. 3, 1917, in Morgan County to James E. Riley and Ina Foy Russell Riley.

She was a homemaker and a member of Sixteenth Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry L. Smith and Dale R. Smith, both of Decatur; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Murphree, Jody Murphree, Frankie Turner, Lynn Shirley, James Phillips and Richard Simons.

Orville Charles Taylor
80, World War II veteran

Funeral for Orville Charles Taylor, 80, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Shubert officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Taylor died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Jan. 9, 1920. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Glena Taylor; three daughters, Jennie Taylor of Moulton, Sandra Deal of Michigan and Colleen Taylor of Kentucky; and seven grandchildren.

Brian S. Bowen
28, former audio technician

Memorial service for Brian S. Bowen, 28, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Central Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Craig Carlisle officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Bowen died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at his parents' home. He was born March 21, 1972, in Decatur. He was a 1990 graduate of Hartselle High School and a 1994 graduate of Full Sail Center for the Recording Arts in Orlando, Fla. He worked at GTE in Nashville as an audio technician and was a member of Central Park Baptist Church. He was the grandson of the late Willard L. Bowen.

Survivors include his parents, Buck and Judy McKenzie Bowen of Priceville; one sister, Mandy Bowen Hill of Anniston; and his grandparents, James and Geraldine McKenzie of Priceville and Mattie L. Meikus of Decatur.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley or a cancer charity.

Carson D.G. Davis
72, retired diesel mechanic

ATHENS -- Funeral for Carson D.G. Davis, 72, of Lester will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Farris officiating.

Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Davis died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at home. He was born Dec. 13, 1927, in Giles County, Tenn., to Dock Davis and Evelyn McGuire Davis. He was a member of Salem Springs Baptist Church and was retired as a diesel mechanic from Willings Detroit Diesel in Decatur. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was the brother of the late Eugene Davis.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Davis; one son, Donnie Davis of Lester; three daughters, Toni Jarvis of Hillsboro, N.C., Carlene Ray of Decatur and Regina Naran of Topeka, Kan.; two brothers, Charles Davis of Lester and Dewey Davis of Athens; two sisters, Pauline Kyle of Athens and Linda Murphree of Lester; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Charles Milton Moore
56, retired carpenter

Graveside service for Charles Milton Moore, 56, of Falkville will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Bald Knob Cemetery with the Rev. Bobby Smith officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Moore died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at home. He was born Nov. 28, 1943, at Punkin Center to Garland C. Moore and Willodean Bryant Moore. He was a retired carpenter.

Survivors include one son, Charles Moore Jr., of Phoenix; three daughters, Roxann Polisena of Cleveland, and Mignon Moore and Keweednok Moore, both of Falkville; one brother, Calvin Lee Moore of Apple Valley, Calif.; and one sister, Dorothy Brown of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Mark Polisena, Dan Evans, Jonathan Warner, Junior Bryant, Timothy Brown and Kenneth King.

Orville Charles Taylor
80, World War II veteran

Funeral for Orville Charles Taylor, 80, of Decatur will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Shubert officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Taylor died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Jan. 9, 1920, in Bay City, Mich. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War and retired after 22 years.

Survivors include his wife, Glena Taylor; three daughters, Jennie Taylor of Moulton, Sandra Deal of Michigan and Colleen Taylor of Kentucky; and seven grandchildren.

William Miles French
85, retired farmer

Funeral arrangements for William Miles French, 85, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with Mark Posey officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. French died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Nov. 13, 1914, in Lawrence County. He was a veteran of World War II, a retired farmer and a member of Austinville Church of Christ. He was the son of the late William Jessie French and Elsie Dobbins French and brother of the late Nellie Lorene Bullard and Joe Wheeler French.

Survivors include one brother, Henry George French of Decatur; three sisters, Gladys Gilliland and Daisy Moebes, both of Decatur, and Thelma Sons of Trinity.

Pallbearers will be Steve French, Roger French, J.D. Bullard, Danny Hyatt, Brian Hyatt and Eugene Stewart.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
