Mamie Esther Scheinert Thomas
92, homemaker and retired nursing assistant

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Mamie Esther Scheinert Thomas, 92, of Cullman will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Williams-McCracken Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Lathem officiating.

Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Thomas died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born May 25, 1908, in Jefferson County. She was a homemaker and a retired nursing assistant. She was the widow of Homer Dewey Thomas and the mother of the late Melvin Jackson Thomas.

Survivors include four daughters, Colleen Buchanan of Cullman, Maxine Jenkins of Bonita Springs, Fla., Charlotte March of Mobile and Elaine Creel of Greenville, S.C.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Horace Ray Turner
77, retired construction worker

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Horace Ray Turner, 77, of Vinemont will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Franklin officiating.

Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Turner died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at Beverly East Health Care Center. He was born March 23, 1923, in Cullman County to John D. Turner and Modina Farley Turner. He was a retired construction worker and served as an Army paratrooper in World War II. He was a member of the Ex-Prisoners of War Association and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 76. He was the brother of the late Arnold Turner.

Survivors include his wife, Willadean Gentry Turner of Vinemont; two sons, Robert R. Turner and Wayne Turner, both of Cullman; one daughter, Culline Adamson of Cullman; three brothers, Dan Turner of Birmingham, Harless 'Dock' Turner of Decatur and Bob Turner of Michigan; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Roger Jackson, Danny Ellis, Luther Moore, Warren Posey, Gene Sullins and Alton Sullins.

James Franklin Zuiderhoek
74, retired regional manager for Crane Packing Co.

BIRMINGHAM -- Funeral for James Franklin Zuiderhoek, 74, of Maylene will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Southern Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Larry Bryars officiating.

Burial will be Elliottsville Cemetery in Alabaster. The family will receive friends tonight from 5:30 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Zuiderhoek died Friday, September 1, 2000, at his home. He was born July 25, 1926, in Birmingham. He was a retired regional manager for the Decatur division of Crane Packing Co. and a sales service engineer for Champion Hi Tech in Houston, Texas. He served in the U. S. Navy in World War II. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church in Alabaster, the Dolcido Masonic Lodge, and the York Rite Shine.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Hobbs Zuiderhoek; one daughter, Pamela Z. Saxon of Lincoln; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Lyle Standridge, Phil Hendrix, Cecil Whitt, Billy Chancellor, Bill Underwood and Jeff Jarrett.

Honorary pallbearers will be employees of International Paper, formally Champion International, in Courtland.

Memorials may be made to Westwood Baptist Church Building Fund in Alabaster or Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham.

Thelma Wharton Bowers
81, homemaker

VALHERMOSO SPRINGS -- Funeral for Thelma Wharton Bowers, 81, of Valhermoso Springs will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Valhermoso Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Flynn officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Valhermoso Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 at Peck Funeral Home in Hartselle.

Mrs. Bowers died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at her home. She was born Nov. 25, 1918, in Morgan County to Park J. Wharton and Laura Elizabeth Black Wharton. She was a homemaker and a member of the Valhermoso Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Euwin Thomas Bowers of Somerville and James Bowers of Valhermoso Springs; seven daughters, Elizabeth Smith of Valhermoso Springs, Esther Brown of Lacey's Spring, Betty Selby of Priceville, Dorothy Owens of Augusta, Ga., Ruth Scott and Mary Bowers, both of Madison, and Jane Spriggs of Winter Springs, Fla.; one sister Pauline Braswell of Huntsville; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bill Wharton, Don Murphy, Jimmy Scott, Wayne Johnson, Kenneth Frazier, James Hopper, Gene Bonds and Jimmy Jennings.

Ruth Swafford Collar
82, clerical worker

Graveside service for Ruth Swafford Collar, 82, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Valhalla Cemetery in Bessemer with Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Collar died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation. She was born March 28, 1918, in Limestone County. She grew up in Cullman and Athens and spent her adult life in Birmingham and Decatur. The family requests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association. She was a clerical worker.

She is survived by one sister, Beth Green of Huntsville.

Brett Morris
19, student

The family of Brett Morris, 19, of Decatur, who died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, in Auburn, will receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home. A private funeral service is planned for the family.

Mr. Morris was born Sept. 2, 1980, in Decatur.

He was a student attending Southern Union Community College in Opelika.

Survivors include his mother and father, Cindy Morris and Larry Morris of Decatur; one brother, Wesley Morris of Decatur; his grandparents, Marvin Taylor and Juyne Taylor of Decatur, and Jack Morris of Decatur.

The family requests memorials be made to the ALS Association, 27001 Agoura Road, Suite 150, Calabasas Hills, Calif., 91301-5104. His grandmother was the late Bobbie Morris of Decatur.

Daisy Mae Pitts
70, homemaker

MADISON -- Funeral for Daisy Mae Pitts, 70, of Madison will be today at 2:30 p.m. at the Mount Zion Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Milan Burrell and People's Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Collier Cemetery in Triana.

Mrs. Pitts died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Dec. 6, 1929, to King Walters Sr. and Roxanna Clemons Walters. She was a homemaker and a member of the Mount Zion Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, McKinley Pitts; nine sons, Willie James Pitts of Huntsville, Jerry Pitts, Ricky Nelson Pitts and Buddy James Pitts, all of Athens and James Earl Pitts, Roy Lee Pitts Percy Pitts, Arthur Moore Pitts Jr. and Robert Lee Pitts, all of Madison; two daughters, Annie Ruth Toney of Athens and Ineatt Pitts of Madison; 37 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Shelbra Voncier Alexander Pride

NORTH COURTLAND -- Funeral for Shelbra Voncier Alexander Pride, 45, of North Courtland will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Courtland with the Rev. Otis C. Neloms officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Courtland Cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour before services.

Mrs. Pride died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital.

She was born Nov. 22, 1954, in Lawrence County to Simpson and Willie Mae McKelvy Alexander.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Courtland.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Roger D. Pride; one son, Ivan D. Pride of North Courtland; one daughter, Adrianne A. Pride of Decatur; four brothers, Cardell Alexander of West Warwick, R.I., Hyter Alexander of St. Louis, Mo., William Alexander and Billy Joe Alexander, both of Dayton, Ohio; six sisters, Odessa Snider of Dayton, Ohio, Ruth Fritz of Little Rock, Ark., Edna Hurley of Atlanta, Jeanette Kitchens of Decatur, Paulette Brackins of Huntsville and Ava Walker of Moulton; and one grandchild.

Alma Mae Childers Bishop
70, homemaker

Funeral for Alma Mae Childers Bishop, 70, of Decatur will be today at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. A. Ray Lee officiating.

Burial will be in Shoal Creek Cemetery.

Mrs. Bishop died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born May 15, 1930, in Guntersville to Lemual Childers and Lola Heflin Childers. She was the widow of Gordon C. Bishop and the mother of the late Betty Bishop. She was a homemaker and a member of the Grace Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Steve Bishop and Scottie Bishop, both of Decatur; two daughters, Barbara Terry of Moulton and Fran Russell of Trinity; three brothers, James Childers of Trinity, Robert Childers and Jerry Childers, both of Decatur; six sisters, Omega Blagburn and Arlene Jervis, both of Decatur, Dwynell Burk of Michigan, Wanda Dickerson of Trinity and Louise Jones and Georgia Howard, both of Guntersville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Blagburn, Randy Blagburn, Darrell Terry, Troy Wilkerson, Mark Goodwin and Wayne Collins.

Peggy J. Lassiter Boyd

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Peggy J. Lassiter Boyd, 50, of Hartselle will be today at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with Bro. Mac Buttram and the Rev. Amos Mashburn officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour before service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Boyd died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Nov. 9, 1949, in Falkville. She was a counselor and job developer for Tennessee Valley Rehabilitation Center in Decatur.

Survivors include her husband, Charles N. Boyd; one son, Christopher M. Lassiter of Jacksonville, N.C.; one daughter, Lisa M. Saab of Hartselle; one stepson, Keith Boyd of Birmingham; two stepdaughters, Amy Melofsky and Kimberly Boyd, both of Birmingham; her parents, Marion E. Helms and Evelyn J. Laughmiller Helms; two brothers, Danny Helms of Hartselle and Jeff Helms of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two stepsisters, Connie Ann Smith of Trussville and Cindy Bridges of Center Point; three grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

Kelly Clay Brewer

HARTSELLE -- Visitation for Kelly Clay Brewer, 41, of Hartselle will be tonight from 6 to 9 at Peck Funeral Home.

Mr. Brewer died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born April 11, 1959, in Michigan. He was an employee of Autumn Auto Service.

Survivors include his parents, Chester and Jean Brewer of Jackson, Ky.; four brothers, Alford Mayhew of Kissimie, Fla., Dewayne Mayhew of Darris Burg, Mich., Randy Ray Brewer of Hartselle and Gary Brewer of Lavenia, Mich.; three sisters, Nina O'Neil of Gold City, Mich., Patricia Turner of Highland, Mich., Jeanne Payne of Wal Lake, Mich.

Wiley Martin Crow
69, accounting supervisor

HARTSELLE -- Graveside service for Wiley Martin Crow, 69, of Huntsville will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Moulton Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Chris Godbee officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Crow died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born March 8, 1931, in Lawrence County to Elbert Crow and Jetta Crow. He was a veteran of World War II and was retired from Ford Motor Company as a supervisor of accounting.

Survivors include two sons, Mart Crow of Indonesia, and Larry Crow of Nevada; one brother, Boots Crow of Florence; four sisters, Mary Ellen Sharrott of Hartselle, Hazel Halbrooks of Louisville, Ky., Lena Hunnicutt of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Ruth Roberson of Moulton; and two grandchildren.

Virginia Ash Dishner
79, homemaker

KINGSPORT, TENN. -- Memorial service for Virginia Ash Dishner, 79, of Kingsport, Tenn., will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home's downtown chapel with the Rev. Gary L. R. Bullard officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Graveside service for family members will be at Oak Hill Cemetery at 10:30 a.m.

Mrs. Dishner died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Asbury Center at Baysmont Heath Care Center in Kingsport. She was born April 22, 1921, in Gladstone, Mo. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Compton of Kingsport and Sharon Smoke of Green wood, S. C. and formally of Decatur; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
