Garland J. 'Red' Wilbourn
69, U.S. Army veteran

ATHENS -- Funeral for Garland J. "Red" Wilbourn, 69, of Athens was to be today at 3 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Pat Lawrence officiating.

Burial was to be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Wilbourn died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born March 21, 1930, in Madison County. He was a member of Sardis Springs Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Ivadean Wilbourn; seven sons, Steve Wilbourn, Tracy Wilbourn, Dustin Wilbourn, Douglas Green haw, Donald Green haw and Jerry Green haw, all of Athens, and Dwight Green haw of Blakely, Ga.; one daughter, Vickie Kyle of Athens; one brother, Bill Frank Wilbourn of Huntsville; two sisters, Juanita Price of Huntsville and Trudy Elledge of Lacey's Spring; 24 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Bill Wilbourn, Tracy Wilbourn, Leonard Cobb, Brian Burden, Donald Green haw, James Dale Barnett, John Wilbourn and Leon Merideth.

Harold 'Buck' Wright Buchanan
84, owner of Buchanan Motors
ATHENS -- Funeral for Harold "Buck" Wright Buchanan, 84, of Athens was to be today at 3:30 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with the Rev. Bo Grace officiating.

Burial was to be in Athens City Cemetery.

Mr. Buchanan died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Dec. 11, 1914, in Howell, Tenn., and was a resident of Limestone County for 79 years. He was the owner and operator of Buchanan Motors for more than 55 years. He also was president of O'Bakana Investments in Athens and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Athens.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Buchanan; one son, Wright Buchanan of Elkmont; two daughters, Pam Parsons of Chicago and Dawn Harper of Athens; two grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be George Harper Jr., George Harper III, Jim Buchanan, Jerry King, Steve Bauer and Harold Meals.

Leanor 'Granny' May Coffelt
78, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Leanor "Granny" May Coffelt, 78, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeri Hunt officiating.

Burial will be in the Forrest Chapel Cemetery near Hartselle. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at Peck Funeral Home.

Mrs. Coffelt died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born June 17, 1921, in Gardenerville, Nev., to Joseph and Anna Morialla. She was a homemaker and member of the Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Donald A. Coffelt; one daughter, Barbara A. Webster of Hartselle; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Truman Bridges, Wayne Byford, Euel James, David Sims, Joe Sims and Andy Wallace.

Shelia Cornett

ATHENS -- Funeral arrangements for Shelia Cornett, 44, of Athens, who died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999, at her home, will be announced by Spry Funeral Home.

Elmer Hargrove

ATHENS -- Funeral arrangements for Elmer Hargrove, 69, of Carey Road in Athens, who died today, Sept. 17, 1999, at Athens-Limestone Hospital, will be announced by Limestone Chapel Funeral Home.

Thomas Darrell Johnson
56, retired deputy and warden

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Thomas Darrell Johnson, 56, of Hillsboro will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. John Johnson and the Rev. Chris Godbey officiating.

Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery near Hartselle. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnson died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born March 20, 1943, in Morgan County to James Darrell and Annie Wanda Wallace Johnson. He was retired from the Morgan County Sheriff's Department, where he served as a lieutenant deputy and warden at the Morgan County Jail. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Sparkman Johnson; his stepfather, Edward Baker of Hartselle; two sons, Steve Johnson of Elkmont and Patrick Johnson of Hartselle; two stepsons, Phillip Peppers of Priceville and Jerry Peppers of Hillsboro; two stepdaughters, Tammy Speegle of Hartselle and Kristi Borden of Falkville; one brother, Eddie Baker of Hartselle; one sister, Gail Montgomery of Decatur; one grandchild and six step-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Garner, Tom Hines, Douglas Johnson, Mike Johnson, Steve Parker and Roger Speak.

Honorary pallbearers will be officers of the Sheriff's Department.

Teal McCullough
86, church servant

INWOOD, N.Y. -- Funeral for Teal McCullough, 86, of Long Island, N.Y., formerly of Decatur, was Wednesday at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Far Rockaway, N.Y., with the Rev. M. Edward Reid officiating.

Burial was in Plain Lawn Cemetery in Hicksville, N.Y., with Chatmon and Benson Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. McCullough died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, in New York. She was born Feb. 10, 1913, in Lawrence County to Eugene and Virginia Mayes. She was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, where she sang in the gospel chorus and served as a missionary, assistant superintendent of Sunday school and a teacher in the Willing Workers church organization. Before moving to New York, she was a member of Macedonia Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Decatur.

She is survived by four sons, Charles McCullough and Ronnie McCullough Sr., both of Far Rockaway, David McCullough of Decatur, Ga., and Henry McCullough of Cleveland, Ohio; three daughters, Flora Quarles of Arverne, N.Y., Jennie Silver of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Catherine McCullough of Inglewood, Calif.; one sister, Louise Ellison of Decatur; 23 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Madge Newby
91, retired schoolteacher

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Madge Newby, 91, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at Athens City Cemetery with Carl Witty officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Newby died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at Limestone Health Facility. She was born Oct. 31, 1907, in Limestone County. She was a schoolteacher in Limestone County at Bethel, Belle Mina, Ardmore and Sardis Springs schools for 29 years. She was also a teacher in Birmingham city schools for 14 years. She was a member of Bethel Church of Christ.

She is survived by five nephews and seven nieces.

Hollis Richardson

MOULTON -- Funeral arrangements for Hollis Richardson of Courtland, who died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center, will be announced by Lawrence Funeral Home.

Dewey G. Smith

HARTSELLE -- Funeral arrangements for Dewey G. Smith, 81, of Hartselle, who died today, Sept. 17, 1999, at his residence, will be announced by Peck Funeral Home.

Oscar Lee Smith
81, retired policeman

ATHENS -- Funeral for Oscar Lee Smith, 81, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Pettit and Roy McMahan officiating.

Burial was to be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Mr. Smith died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Aug. 20, 1918, in Lauderdale County. He was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church and a retired Athens city policeman.

He is survived by his wife, Ozell Smith; one son, Randell Smith of Decatur; two daughters, Regena Turner of Madison and Patricia Reed of Elkmont; two sisters, Lula Lemay and Irene Reels, both of Anderson; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Marie Smith Standridge
76, retired registered nurse

Graveside service for Marie Smith Standridge, 76, of Decatur will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Richmond Webster officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends Saturday at the cemetery following the burial.

Mrs. Standridge died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at her home. She was born Nov. 23, 1922, in Taft, Tenn. She was a graduate of the nursing school at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville and retired from Decatur General Hospital as a registered nurse. She was a resident of Decatur for 51 years.

She is survived by one son, Kerry L. Standridge of Decatur; one daughter, Barbara S. Kelly of Decatur; and two grandsons.

Pallbearers will be Sean Kelly, Drew Kelly, Robert Parker, Charles Clem, Jim Tucker and James H. Smith Jr.

Memorials may be made to Decatur General Hospital Foundation.

Lorene Toone
79, homemaker

ARDMORE -- Funeral for Lorene Toone, 79, of Elkmont will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Ardmore First Baptist Church with the Rev. Sammy Brister officiating and Taylor-Ardmore Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 4 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Toone died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at her home. She was born July 25, 1920, in Alabama. She was a homemaker and the widow of William E. Toone. She was a member of Ardmore First Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry Toone and Rex Toone, both of Elkmont; one daughter, Glenda Dale Daly of Elkmont; two brothers, Claudie Ervin of Columbia, Tenn., and Howard "Monk" Ervin of Nashville; four sisters, Clara Mae Collins and Velma Watkins, both of Columbia, Lois McDowell of Nashville and Audrey Toone of Douglasville, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the ladies Sunday school class at Ardmore First Baptist Church.
