Shirley Massey

MOULTON -- Graveside service for Shirley Massey, 71, of Town Creek, was to be today at 2 p.m. at Moulton Memory Gardens with the Rev. Keith Jones officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends today at the funeral home from noon until time for the service.

Mr. Massey died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born Jan. 21, 1929, in Lawrence County to Jerald Massey and Avon Golden Massey. He was a member of Enon Baptist Church and the brother of the late Joyce Brooks and Patricia Massey.

Survivors include one sister, Dorothy Letson of Town Creek.

Gladys Turner Pylant
62, former Prestolite employee

MOULTON -- Funeral for Gladys Turner Pylant, 62, of Danville will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Amos Hood and Jamie Patterson officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Pylant died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Sept. 18, 1938, in Limestone County to Dewey Prickett and Hattie Barker Prickett. She was a former Prestolite employee and a member of Moulton Church of Christ. She was the widow of James "Jimmy" Turner and the sister of the late Doug Prickett and Garland Prickett.

Survivors include her husband, David Pylant; three sons, Ronald Turner and James "Junior "Turner, both of Moulton, and Anthony Turner of Russellville; one daughter, Connie Turner Hood of Moulton; two stepsons, Michael Pylant and Adam Pylant, both of Danville; two stepdaughters, Anita Russell of Falkville and Kim Peters of Danville; and one sister, Velerie "Pee Wee" Patterson of Decatur; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jason A. Hood, Christopher S. Hood, Andy W. Turner, Clayton H. Turner, Michael Pylant and Adam Pylant.

Jack W. Thornton
67, Doyle Supply salesman

Funeral for Jack. W. Thornton, 67, of Decatur was to be today at 1 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Sherry Harris officiating.

Burial was to be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Thornton died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Oct. 20, 1933, in Lauderdale County, to J.F. Thornton and Irene Campbell Thornton. A member of Lexington United Methodist Church, he was a veteran in the U.S. Army and retired from Doyle Supply Co. as a salesman.

Survivors include his wife, Myra Thornton, and one brother, Charles P. Thornton of Florence.

Pallbearers were to be Todd Mays, Greg Thornton, Chris Mays, Scott Stanoelevich, Marty Robertson and Mike Stanoelevich.

Ricky Joe Walker

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Ricky Joe Walker, 44, of Hartselle, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Moss Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Andrew Ball officiating.

Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery in Cullman. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Walker died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, in Jackson, Tenn. He was born Oct. 9, 1956, in Cullman County to Ernest and Trishel Harris Walker.

Survivors include one brother, Ernie Lee Walker of Falkville; and two sisters, Fay Herring of Hartselle and Donna Kelley of Falkville.

Betty Jo Cornett
66, Food World retiree

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Betty Jo Cornett, 66, of Cullman will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home with John Paul Jones and Dorothy Fraley officiating.

Burial will be in Cullman City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cornett died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at her home. She was born Dec. 2, 1933, in Cullman County to Dave Widner and Sarah Vandergriff Widner. She was retired from Food World. She was the sister of the late L.D. Widner, Charles Buck Widner, Winford Widner, Lucille Hamrick and Geneva Price .

Survivors include her husband, Paul W. Cornett; one daughter, Donna Cornett Lott of Cullman; one stepson, Paul W. "Bill" Cornett of Las Vegas; one stepdaughter, Paula Busby of Portland, Ore.; one brother, Elwin Sonny Widner of Decatur; and five step-grandchildren.

Erin 'Sis' Crow

TRINITY -- Funeral arrangements for Erin 'Sis' Crow, 84, of Courtland, who died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital, will be announced by Parkway Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8:30 at the funeral home.

Verne Clayton Hennen
67, publications manager

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Verne Clayton Hennen, 67, of Arroyo Grande, Calif., will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Abrams officiating.

Burial will be in Valhermoso Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hennen died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at his sister-in-law's home in Leeds. He was born Aug. 11, 1933, in South Dakota to Clifford E. Hennen and Helen Bedsaul Hennen. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of Grace Bible Church in Arroyo Grande and manager of the publications department at Ocean Technology. He was the brother of the late Gene Hennen and June Hennen Balenseisen.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Hennen; one son, Anthony Hennen of Colorado; one daughter, Maria Hennen Waters of Virginia; two brothers, Jim Hennen of South Dakota and Ron Hennen of Colorado; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Chunn, Wesley Chunn, Steve Hardy, Stacy Hill, Ronald Jennings, Don Murphy, Kenneth Roberts and Chris Sivley.

Doyle Thurston Leonard
85, Regions Bank retiree

ATHENS -- Funeral for Doyle Thurston Leonard, 85, of Athens will be today at 2 p.m. at Kelley's Creek Baptist Church in Blanche, Tenn., with the Rev. Harless Hale officiating.

Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery with Spry Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Leonard died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born May 7, 1915, in Limestone County. He was retired from Regions Bank and was a member and deacon at Kelley's Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Virgie Cribbs; one son, Dan T. Leonard of Athens; three stepsons, Jimmy Cribbs and Granville Cribbs, both of Harvest, and Mack Cribbs of Athens; one sister, Edith Drawbaugh of Dallas, Texas; seven step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Deacons of Kelley's Creek Baptist Church will be pallbearers.

Berval V. Bennett
U.S. Postal Service retiree

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Berval V. Bennett of Hartselle was to be today at 10 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Don Wright officiating.

Burial was to be in Hartselle City Cemetery.

Mr. Bennett died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. Born in Morgan County to Ernest Bennett and Mable Taylor Bennett, he was retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Trannie A. Bennett; one son, Berval W. Bennett of Decatur; one daughter, Trannie Louise Ball of Decatur; one brother, Thomas Andrew Bennett of Decatur; two sisters, Mary Sue Butler of Athens and Carolyn Ann Pierce of Coosawahtchie, S.C.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were to be Brian White, Brian Oakes, William Edward Carlisle Jr., Dennis Griffith, Ruben Francis and Fred W. Langston.

Evelyn Irene Brock
76, homemaker

TRINITY -- Funeral for Evelyn Irene Brock, 76, of Moulton will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Faith Tabernacle Church with the Rev. Anthony Simmons and the Rev. Thomas Smith officiating.

Burial will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens with Parkway Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8:30 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Brock died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at her home. She was born April 28, 1924, in Gastonia, N.C., to Dewey and Nippie Rimmer. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. James R. Brock; two sons, Zane Ray Brock of Decatur and Mark James Brock of Trinity; three daughters, Judy Brock McAlpin of Decatur, Dianne Carolyn Pugh of Hillsboro and Hilda Ruth Queen of Moulton; one sister, Levader Rimmer Green e of Gastonia; 13 grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be James Daniel Ashton, Michael Dean Jackson, Jeffery Scott Jackson, Robbie Ray Brock, Chris Queen, Rodney Queen, Justin Brock and Houston Brock.

Carlos Brooks
66, truck driver

Funeral for Carlos Brooks, 66, of Decatur will be Tuesday at noon at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Franklin officiating.

Burial will be in Poplar Creek Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Brooks died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at his home. He was born Sept. 25, 1934, in Morgan County to Wilder "Farmer" Brooks and Lovern Barker Brooks. He was a truck driver for a construction company and a member of St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Fannie Phornore Brooks; two sons, Collis Brooks and Larry Brooks, both of Decatur; five daughters, Maria Phornore, Carolyn Dixon and Lois Taylor, all of Decatur, and Carla High and Vanessa Watkins, both of Huntsville; four stepsons, Phillip Ash, Hershey Collier, John Ash and Michael Ash, all of Decatur; two stepdaughters, Cynthia Ash and Catherine Jackson, both of Decatur; three sisters, Joan Gildon and Anna Tapscott, both of Decatur, and Sharon Miller of Tanner; 27 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Lee Barker, Richard Rather, Mac Collier, Orlando Powell, Eric Austin and Lawrence Griffin.

Nancy Dullie Eckhardt

Funeral arrangements for Nancy Dullie Eckhardt, 72, of Decatur, who died today, Nov. 13, 2000, at her home, will be announced by Roselawn Funeral Home.

Mary Lou Bell Nichols
69, community leader, volunteer

ATHENS -- Memorial service for Mary Lou Bell Nichols, 69, of Athens will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Athens with the Rev. Steven Screws and the Rev. Curtis Coleman officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends after the service at 201 Ridgelawn Drive.

Mrs. Nichols died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at her home. She was born Jan. 6, 1931, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Louis Bell and Helen Jenkins Bell. She graduated from Decatur High School, where she was a varsity cheerleader, president of the Sub Deb Club and a member of National Honor Society and the Spinster and Decatur Cotillion clubs.

She received a bachelor of arts degree from Huntingdon College, where she was May Queen and in "Who's Who in America Colleges and Universities." An Athens resident for 48 years, she was a volunteer leader in Athens, having been involved with Girl Scouts and the Athena League, where she was a charter member and chairman of Apple Annie. She was a Red Cross Auxiliary Board member and founder of the teen-ager volunteer program. She was a longtime supporter of First United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and member of the Board of Stewards. She was a volunteer for Clean Community Commission, especially the Elk River Clean Up Campaign, and Hospice of Limestone County. She was the widow of R.B. Nichols.

Survivors include one son, Nicholas Louis Nichols of Flowery Branch, Ga.; one daughter, Belle Walker of Montgomery; one brother, Bob Bell of Decatur; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County or First United Methodist Church in Athens.

Doll Day Thomas
85, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Graveside service for Doll Day Thomas, 85, of St. Paul, Minn., formerly of Morgan County, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Red Oak Grove Cemetery with the Rev. David Parker officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Thomas died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at Woodbury Health Care Center in Woodbury, Minn. She was born Dec. 27, 1914, in Morgan County to William Jackson Day and Bobbie Hall Day. She was a homemaker, a member of Cotaco United Methodist Church and the widow of Leroy Thomas.

Survivors include one sister, Orville Day Turney of Hartselle.
