HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Wilma Hensley Vest, 76, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Campbell and the Rev. Wendall Callahan officiating.

Burial will be in the Johnson Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 5 to 9 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home.

Mrs. Vest died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at her residence. She was born Sept. 20, 1922, in Morgan County, to Lige and Ethel Segars Hensley. She was a homemaker and a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Delbert Vest; four sons, Virgil Vest, Earl Vest, Ray Vest and Billy Vest, all of Hartselle; one daughter, Ruby Lacy of Hartselle; three brothers, F.D. Hensley of Danville, Clifton Hensley of Hartselle and John D. Hensley of Trinity; one sister, Clezell Asherbranner of Falkville; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Gary Vest, Alan Lacy, Jeremy Lacy, Mike Hanline, Wayne Hensley and Randy Hensley.

James David Johnson
85, retired dry cleaningservice worker
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for James David Johnson, 85, of Hartselle will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Thompson officiating.

Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnson died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at Falkville Health Care Center.

He was born Sept. 18, 1914, in Lawrence County, to William Milton and Sara Elizabeth Depreast Johnson. He was retired from a dry-cleaning service and was a member of Oak Ridge Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Irene Johnson; and one sister, Dessie Atkins of Decatur.

Burl 'Jaybird'Dean Morris
59, school bus driver

TRINITY -- Funeral for Burl "Jaybird" Dean Morris, 59, of Moulton will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. J.T. Lowery officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Morris died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at his home. He was born Nov. 29, 1939, in Moulton.

He was a retired crane operator with Reynolds Metal and a school bus driver. He was the son of the late Clifford W. Morris.

He is survived by wife, Betty Heaps Morris; one son, Gregory Lee Morris of Moulton; one daughter, Sherry Dean Sutton of Moulton; his mother, Zenobia Morris of Chalybeate; three brothers, Lyndon Morris of Dalton, Ga., Guinn Morris of Athens and Aaron Morris of Chalybeate; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ross Cole, Sam Davis, Hudson Parker, Wayne Rutherford, Hershel Spruell and Norman Wright.

Denton Walter Nelms

HARTSELLE -- Funeral arrangements for Denton Walter Nelms, 80, of Decatur, who died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at his residence, will be announced by Peck Funeral Home.

Hollis Richardson
67, North Courtland resident

MOULTON -- Graveside service for Hollis Richardson, 67, of North Courtland was to be today at 10 a.m. at Corinth Cemetery with Keith Jones officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Richardson died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born Oct. 8, 1931, in Lawrence County to Robert and Effie Hodge Richardson.

He is survived by one brother, Bobby Richardson of Mcdlothian, Ill.; and two sisters, Bonnie Wise of Sesser, Ill., and Doris Wills of Oak Forest, Ill.

Denton Walter Nelms
80, retired butcher

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Denton Walter Nelms, 80, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. John Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Caddo Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Nelms died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at his home. He was born Oct. 12, 1918, in Morgan County to Robert and Bertha Lee Nelms. He was a retired butcher with Nelms and Son Packing and a member of the Piney Grove First Holy Church of Christ in Lawrence County.

He is survived by his wife, Erlean Nelms; three sons, Lavoudis Lee Nelms of Decatur, Jimmy Nelms of Somerville and Keith Nelms of Tanner; five daughters, Delores Hazel of Hartselle, Teresa Maxwell, Rhanda Brown and Angela Stringham, all of Somerville, and Janice Rochelle of Burkville, Texas; one sister, Effie Sue Birdwell of Decatur; and 10 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Darrell Brown, Jerry Hazel, Jimmy Hazel, Anthony Maxwell, Johnny Maxwell, Jack McAbee and Larry Stringham.

Mary V. Posey

TRINITY -- Funeral arrangements for Mary V. Posey, 77, of Trinity, who died today, Sept. 21, 1999, at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Center in Huntsville, will be announced by Parkway Funeral Home.

Gainey Walker
98, retired farmer

HALEYVILLE -- Funeral for Gainey Walker, 98, of Haleyville was to be today at 3 p.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville with the Rev. Tim Anderson and the Rev. John Hawkins officiating.

Burial was to be in Winston Memorial Cemetery in Haleyville.

Mr. Walker died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at his home. He was born Oct. 20, 1900, in Houston to Enoc and Amis Walker. He was a self-employed farmer, a member of Liberty Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of Winston County. He was the widower of Carrie Walker and was preceded in death by two brothers, seven sisters and one great-grandchild.

He is survived by five sons, Chester Walker and Mayo Walker, both of Haleyville, Crantford Walker of Ashridge, Harold Walker of Anderson and Earl Walker of Florence; six daughters, Nell Camp, Florence Cagle and Rena Hood, all of Haleyville, Willodean Taylor of Iuka, Miss., Ann Hurt of Decatur and Joyce Burleson of Hartselle; 34 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Jimmie Irene 'Rene' Jeffreys Blankenship
71, homemaker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Jimmie Irene "Rene" Jeffreys Blankenship, 71, of Moulton will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Hood and the Rev. Kale Bragwell officiating.

Burial will be in Heflin Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Mrs. Blankenship died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at National Health Care in Moulton. She was born Jan. 21, 1928, in Lawrence County. She was a homemaker, a graduate of Lawrence County High School and a member of Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Clifford Blankenship; two sons, Donnie Blankenship and Jeff Blankenship, both of Moulton; three daughters, Debbie Thorp of Muscle Shoals and Connie Kirby and Taffy Pierce, both of Moulton; one sister, Macy Moore of Moulton; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tim LouAllen, Chad LouAllen, Trey Thorp, Kinley Kirby, Lucas Blankenship and Jarrad Kirby.

John Lee Fleming

ATHENS -- Funeral arrangements for John Lee Fleming, 89, of Athens, who died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at his home, will be announced by Spry Funeral Home.

Pearl Hill

Funeral arrangements for Pearl Hill, 104, of Hillsboro, who died today, Sept. 22, 1999, at Parkway Medical Center Hospital, will be announced by Sharpley Funeral Home.

Mary V. Posey
77, retired storekeeper

TRINITY -- Funeral for Mary V. Posey, 77, of Trinity will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church at Midway with the Rev. Steve Agee and the Rev. Elmer Fowler officiating.

Burial will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at Parkway Funeral Home. Her body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.

Mrs. Posey died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Huntsville. She was born March 1, 1922, in Lawrence County to James and Frances Johnson. She was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church, a retired storekeeper and a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Dennis Franklin Posey of Trinity; four daughters, Patricia Hopper of Decatur, Lanette Lindsey of Trinity and Kay Hill and Lisa Hill, both of Moulton; two sisters, Majorie Boyles of Mount Hope and Jeanette Jefferys of Landersville; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Harold Preston, Jim Canups, Danny Hill, Sonny Preston, Doyle Peebles and Ricky Swann.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
