Thomas Harold Garner
77, deacon

ATHENS -- Funeral for Thomas Harold Garner, 77, of Athens will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Warren Glass and Don Osborne officiating.

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Garner died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Feb. 26, 1923, in Minor Hill, Tenn. He was a member and deacon at Market Street Church of Christ. He retired from Liberty National Life Insurance Co. after 30 years of service. He was the widower of Frances Garner.

Survivors include one son, H. Timothy Garner of Madison; one daughter, Jacqueline Garner of Lincoln County, Tenn.; and two grandsons.

Pallbearers will be Homer Miller, Albert Watkins, Elvin Stoffregen, Martin Casteel, Albert Norton and Harold Neeley.

Lois Mae Gunn
92, homemaker

Funeral for Lois Mae Gunn, 92, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Craig Carlisle officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gunn died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at South Morgan Health Care. She was born July 18, 1908, in Morgan County to James White and Elizabeth Fisher White. She was a homemaker and a member of Central Park Baptist Church. She was the widow of Charlie Gunn and the mother of the late Sybil Gunn Copeland.

Survivors include one son, Gerald Gunn of Falkville; one daughter, Doris Love of Decatur; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Loyd Chester Hampton
75, farmer

MOULTON -- Funeral for Loyd Chester Hampton, 75, of Moulton will be today at 10 a.m. at Elliott Funeral Home with Estus Hardin and Chris Parker officiating.

Burial will be in Bald Knob Cemetery.

Mr. Hampton died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born June 20, 1925, in Moulton to David Wheeler Hampton and Hattie Stover Hampton. He was a farmer and a Methodist. He was the brother of the late D.W. Hampton, Louie Hampton and Mackey Hampton.

Survivors include two sisters, Lucille Hampton and Roberta Jones, both of Moulton.

Emma Lue Irvin
76, homemaker

Funeral for Emma Lue Irvin, 76, of Decatur will be Monday at noon at New Jones Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. David T. Young Sr. officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Memorial Garden with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Irvin died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born May 3, 1924, in Morgan County to Mitchell Green and Viola Peoples Green . She was a homemaker and a member of West Side Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and served on the Usher Board and Missionary Society.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Irvin and Robert Lee Hammond, both of Decatur; three daughters, Viola Hammond, Geanis Stovall and Elizabeth Irvin, all of Decatur; one stepson, Minor Irvin Jr. of Amarillo, Texas; four stepdaughters, Georgia Leigh Jones of Town Creek, Caroline Garner of Decatur, Edna Horton of Huntsville and Mary Magdalene of Chattanooga.; two brothers, Mitchell Green Jr. of Indianapolis and Willie Lee Green of Chicago; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Frederick Stovall, Maurice Bolden, Emmanuel Hammond, Brian Hammond, Durand Irvin, Michael Bolden, David Curry and Robert Hammond Jr.

Leon Malone
63, construction worker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Leon Malone, 63, of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. Peoples Funeral Home with the Rev. Ollie Turner officiating.

Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery. The family will receive friends at his home at 1915 Hine St.

Mr. Malone died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Sept. 13, 1937, in Limestone County to Roosevelt Malone and Jennie Bell Malone. He was a disabled construction worker. He was the brother of the late Joe Malone.

Survivors included his wife, Dorothy G. Malone; one son, Prentis Malone of Athens; three brothers, Bobby Malone of Decatur, Tommy Malone of Nashville and L.C. Malone of Knoxville; and four sisters, Ozell Gouch of Knoxville and Stella Malone, Jewell Cain and Betty Berry, all of Athens.

Ulice Junior Randolph

ATHENS -- Funeral for Ulice Junior Randolph, 63, of Elkmont will be Sunday at 11 a.m. at Peoples Funeral Home with the Rev. Oscar Edmonds officiating.

Burial will be in Thatch-Mann Cemetery.

Mr. Randolph died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at his home. He was born Dec. 10, 1937, in Giles County, Tenn.

Survivors include one daughter, Ann Fletcher of Athens; his mother, Emma L. Randolph of Athens; three brothers, Felix Randolph and Melvin Randolph, both of Athens, and John Randolph of Florence; five sisters, Lois Wiley of Athens, Carrie Powell of California, Helen Randolph and Maxine Randolph, both of Indianapolis, and Connie Gross of St. Louis; and four grandchildren.

Rudolph W. Slate
66, retired Morgan County judge

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Rudolph W. Slate, 66, of Hartselle will be today at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.

Mr. Slate died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at University of Alabama Hospital at Birmingham. He was born April 27, 1934, in Morgan County to Leonard Edward Slate and Irene Wright Slate. He was a 1952 graduate of Morgan County High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-58 as an instructor of radar guidance systems at Redstone Arsenal and Marshall Space Flight Center. He graduated from The University of Alabama School of Law in 1967 and practiced law in Decatur from 1967 to 1976.

He was elected Morgan County district judge in 1976 and was appointed by Gov. Fob James as Morgan County Circuit Judge in 1981. He was elected to the circuit judge position in 1982 and served until his retirement in 1995. In 1996, he was appointed to Federal Administrative Law judge for Social Security and retired from the federal bench in 1998.

Survivors include two sons, Rex Slate of Birmingham and Robin Ray Slate of Hartselle; two daughters, Casie Leigh Slate and Kelli Slate Caldwell, both of Hartselle; two brothers, Royce Slate of Montgomery and Ralph Slate of Decatur; two sisters, Margie Slate Crocker of Florence and Reba Slate Wallace of Hartselle; and one granddaughter.

Pallbearers include Shawn Barnes, Andy Slate, Scott Slate, Ralph Slate Jr., Randall Wallace and Ronald Wallace.

Morgan County Bar Association members will be honorary pallbearers.

O.T. Terry
80, World War II veteran

ATHENS -- Funeral for O.T. Terry, 80, of Anderson will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Terry and the Rev. Mike Poff officiating.

Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Anderson. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Terry died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at his home. He was born June 30, 1920, in Hillsboro to Orion Terry and Mittie Cottingham Terry. He lived in the Goodsprings community for eight years. He was a member of Austinville Church of God in Decatur, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired welder at Sue-Jac Inc. in Decatur. He played the guitar at area churches and nursing homes. He was the father of the late Billy Wayne Terry.

Survivors include his wife, Nelldean Owen Terry of Goodsprings; one daughter, Vivian Morgan of Goodsprings; one sister, Belle Clark of Tullahoma, Tenn.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Imajean Goodwin
68, homemaker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Imajean Goodwin, 68, of Moulton will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Goodwin died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at her home. She was born Aug. 21, 1932, in Kentucky to Benjamin Lynch and Marie Bruce Lynch. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Roy Goodwin; one daughter, Patricia Collins of Florida; two brothers, James Lynch of Kentucky and David Lynch of Chicago; three sisters, Diane Wyatt, Evon Bounds and Connie Staggs, all of Chicago; and two grandchildren.

Purnell R. Hagood
84, retired factory worker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Purnell R. Hagood, 84, of Town Creek was Saturday at Okolona Baptist Church in Hatton with Sam Wallace officiating.

Burial was in Moulton Memory Gardens with Elliott Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Hagood died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, in Virginia Beach, Va. She was born June 29, 1916, in Alabama to Lindsey Glover and Sallie Hale Glover. She was a retired garment factory worker and a member of Okolona Baptist Church. She was the sister of the late Cleburn Glover, Winford Glover and Martha Lou Moultrie.

Survivors include one daughter, Voncille Burke of Virginia; one brother, Willie Glover of Moulton; and two sisters, Pearlie Smothers of Double Springs and Essie P. Pierce of Decatur.

Nephews were pallbearers.

Elizabeth McClusky

Funeral arrangements for Elizabeth McClusky, 84, of Decatur, who died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital, will be announced by Shelton Funeral Home.

Hugh Lee Morris Jr.
68, former Falkville coach

ROANOKE -- Funeral for Hugh Lee Morris Jr., 68, of Roanoke will be Monday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tex Ergle and the Rev. James Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Cedarwood Cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Morris died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at his home. He was born Sept. 20, 1932, in Randolph County to Hugh Lee Morris Sr. and Elsie Rowe Morris. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a coach at Falkville High School in the 1960s. He taught in Roanoke City Schools and coached football at Handley and Wadley high schools. He served as superintendent of Randolph County Schools and founded the Roanoke Little League. He was a member of the Handley Quarterback Club and First United Methodist Church in Roanoke.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy Durham Morris; two sons, Wayne Morris of Seattle and William Morris of Roanoke; two daughters, Ann Jones of Newcastle, Wyo., and Frances Morris of Roanoke; two brothers, Ellis R. Morris of Orlando, Fla., and Bobby Morris of Roanoke; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Shane Everett, Jerry Cotney, Donald Morris, Chuck Marcum, Ronnie Irvin, Donnie Cash, Herbert Swann and Tommy Hill.

Louisa Farmer Reaves
57, teacher

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Graveside service for Louisa Farmer Reaves, 57, of Fayetteville will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Cross Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Leighton McKeithan officiating and Rogers and Breece Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Reaves died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital. She was born March 18, 1943, in Cumberland County, N.C. She was a teacher for 25 years with Fayetteville City Schools, Cumberland County Schools and Bertie County Schools. She graduated from Methodist College. She was the sister of the late Anne Mason Farmer.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Leonard E. Reaves III; two daughters, Mary McLeod Brown of Decatur and Ann McLeod Daughtridge of Rocky Mount, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Lineberger Cancer Center, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
