Herbert Wallace
80, retired Nebraska trooper

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Herbert Wallace, 80, of Hartselle will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Wilson and the Rev. Harold Fanning officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Wallace died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at his home. He was born March 12, 1920, in Illinois to John H. Wallace and Elizabeth Carlson Wallace. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hartselle and a World War II Army veteran, who was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Tenian, Guam and Siapan and served with the Motor Corps. After leaving the military, he joined the Nebraska Highway Patrol, where he retired after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Nebraska State Police Association and sergeant of arms of the Nebraska State Legislature. He was a master mason in the Masonic Lodge and a member of Sesostris Shrine Temple, both in Lincoln, Neb. He moved to Hartselle in 1986 and became a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and the American Legion. He was a volunteer at Hartselle Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Dora May Wallace; two sons, Bill Wallace of Fairmont, Minn., and Curtis Wallace of Hartselle; two daughters, Linda "Pennie" Segars and Janet Waddell, both of Hartselle; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be A.D. Arrington, Sam Boster, Dewel Lott, Billy McKelvey, Joel Segars, Melvin Smith and Dennis Tyler.

Johnnie Woodall
93, retired farmer

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Johnnie Woodall, 93, of Eva will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Rock Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Jesse Estes officiating.

Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Woodall died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born May 4, 1907, in Morgan County to Author Lee Woodall and Mattie Lee Oden Woodall. He was a retired farmer and the widower of Ruth Woodall.

Survivors include one son, Albert Woodall of Baileyton; two daughters, Nadean Woodall and Dot Woodall, both of Eva; two brothers, Hady Woodall of Eva and Avery "Doc" Woodall of Huntsville; one sister, Ola Aldridge of Eva; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Charles Woodall, Leslie Woodall, Danny Earl Woodall, Steve Woodall, Allen Woodall and Jackie Aldridge.

Edward James Bellman
81, retired package machinery employee

ATHENS -- Funeral services for Edward James Bellman, 81, of Athens will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Malcolm Andrews and Hiram Hutto officiating.

Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Bellman died today, Jan. 26, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Dec. 5, 1919, in Washington, D.C. He retired from the package machinery industry and was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of the Jackson Drive Church of Christ.

Survivors include one stepson, Robert Perras of Myrtle Beach, S. C.; one stepdaughter, Judy Strickland of Madison; and one step-grandson.

Pallbearers will be Billy Lovell, Jerry Baker, Dwight Thompson, Nick Sandlin, Robert Powers, Billy Mitchell, Stephen Lovell and Roger Andrews.

Thelma Burchell
85, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Thelma Lucille Burchell, 85, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Brady McCullough officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Burchell died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Jan. 21, 1916, in Lawrence County to Marshall Hogan and Bertha Britnell Hogan. She was a homemaker and a member of Salem United Methodist Church. She was the widow of George Burchell.

Survivors include two sons, Bud Burchell and Jim Burchell, both of Hartselle; three daughters, Merle Osborn and Sis McCaghren, both of Hartselle, and Jerry Simmons of Gadsden; one brother, Cecil Hogan of Hartselle; one sister, Ovilee Rinke of Pflugerville, Texas; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Willie 'Buck' Ezell
70, market owner

CENTER STAR -- Funeral for Willie D. "Buck" Ezell, 70, of Rogersville was to be today at 3 p.m. at Elkins Funeral Home's east chapel with Bill Hill officiating.

Burial was to be in Civitan Cemetery in Rogersville.

Mr. Ezell died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 28, 1930, in Lauderdale County to Bertie Lee Ezell and Lillie Anna Elizabeth Butler Ezell. He was a well-known businessman in Rogersville, who owned and operated Ezell's Fish Market for 33 years. Mr. Ezell was a member of New Georgia Church of Christ in Anderson. He was the brother of the late Johnny Lee Ezell and Bennie Wee Ezell.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Sarah Evelyn Adams Ezell; one son, David Ezell of Rogersville; two daughters, Pam Patterson of Anderson and Willene Jones of Rogersville; one brother, Gene Ezell of Rogersville; one sister, Millinea Davis of Rogersville; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Black, Larry Davis, Alan Davis, Tommy Butler, Tim Butler and Doyce Richardson.

Katie Sims Gordon

Funeral for Katie Sims Gordon, 91, of Decatur will be Saturday at noon at St. James Cumberland Presbyterian Church of America with the Rev. Clifford Malone officiating.

Burial will be in Campground Cemetery with Sharpley Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Sims died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born Oct. 9, 1909, in Danville to Dennis and Ella Sims. She was a member of Ebenezer Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Danville and later moved to Decatur, where she became a member of St. James Cumberland Presbyterian Church of America. She was the widow of Kennedy Gordon and the mother of Robert Lee Gordon.

Survivors include one son, John Clifford Gordon of Pontiac, Mich.; two sisters, Amanda Dabney of Decatur and Holsie Bell of the Bronx, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons and nephews will be pallbearers.

Willadean Toney

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Willadean Toney, 42, of Huntsville will be Saturday at noon at Royal Funeral Home with Kelvin Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Northside Cemetery.

Ms. Toney died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at Sunbridge Nursing Home.

Survivors include one daughter, Tracey Toney of Huntsville; two sons, Throne Toney and Tony Toney, both of Huntsville; four sisters, Mary Toney of Huntsville, Brenda Mason of Decatur, Stacey Toney of Florida and Tracey Toney of Texas; seven brothers, Timothy Toney, Kennedy Toney, Jiff Toney, David Toney, Lester Toney and Ray Toney, all of Huntsville, and James Toney of Toney; her grandfather, Charles Toney; and six grandchildren.

Margaret Jake Wayne Whisenant
82, homemaker

ARAB -- Funeral for Margaret Jake Wayne Whisenant, 82, of Arab will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Rescue Methodist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Flynn and the Rev. Ken Hester officiating.

Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at Gober Funeral Home. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Whisenant died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in Kingston, Ga. She was born Nov. 15, 1918, in Morgan County to Jacob Goodson and Leaton Watson Goodson. She was a homemaker who lived most of her life in the Union Hill community of Morgan County. She was a member of Rescue United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Frank M. Whisenant and the mother of Don Whisenant.

Survivors include four sons, Larry Don Whisenant of Hulaco, Charles Whisenant of Arab and Frank Kerry Whisenant and Robert Whisenant, both of Georgia; four daughters, Jean Brookshire of Georgia, Faye Thornberry of Union Hill, Patsy White of Athens and Joan Andrea Terrell of Locust Fork; 25 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Whisenant, Ricky Pollard, John Terrell, Ryan Whisenant, Cody Whisenant, Russell Whisenant and Chuck Brookshire.

Grandsons will be honorary pallbearers.

David Lyn Bain
38, DHR employee
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for David Lyn Bain, 38, of Hartselle will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Bullard officiating.

Graveside Masonic service will be 3:30 p.m. at Cullman City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Bain died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at home. He was born April 1, 1962, in Mississippi to George Richard Bain and Barbara Gail Gossett Bain. He worked for the Alabama Department of Human Resources and was a member of West Hartselle Baptist Church. He earned a bachelor's degree in music from the University of North Alabama and served in the Army from 1984 to 1988. He served as president of the Decatur Shrine Club, York Rite and was Past Master of the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Leslye Mize Bain.

Members of Rising Sun Masonic Lodge will be pallbearers.

Carl H. Ditto
88, Safeway retiree

ARAB -- Funeral for Carl H. Ditto, 88, of Morgan City will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Gober Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Ditto died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at home. He was born March 24, 1912, in Oklahoma to Walker Ditto and Pearl Hollingsworth Ditto. He was retired from Safeway.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Ditto; one son, Morton H. Ditto of Kansas; four daughters, Sandy Ditto of Morgan City, and Lisa "Betty" Ditto, Judy Butler and Carol Joan Walker, all of Arkansas; one brother, Eugene Ditto of Morgan City; three sisters, Lucille Thomas of Kansas, Mary Clanton of Florida and Ora Poole; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Annie Bell McMillan Garrett
67, nurse's aide

MOULTON -- Funeral for Annie Bell McMillan Garrett, 67, of Loosier will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with Calvin Jones and Gary Steadman officiating.

Burial will be in Courtland City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Morris died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence. She was born May 2, 1933, in Lawrence County to Frank Morris and Gertrude Dossey Morris. She was a nurse's aide at Moulton Nursing Home and a member of Fair Haven Church of Christ.

Survivors include three sons, Donnie McMillan and Frankie McMillan, both of Hatton, and Robert Garrett of Moulton; one daughter, Joyce Smith of Hatton; one sister, Mary Jo Holmes of Loosier; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Suvolla Irene Herron
79, homemaker

Funeral for Suvolla Irene Herron, 79, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Handschumaer officiating.

Burial will be in Caddo Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Herron died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Sunbridge Nursing Home. She was born May 17, 1921, in Lawrence County to Jack Morgan and Ida Walker Morgan. She was a homemaker and a member of Shady Valley Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Ben Herron Jr. of Decatur and Vernon Wayne Herron of Huntsville; one brother, Eursie Morgan of Decatur; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.
