89, Morgan resident

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Mattie L. Smallwood, 89, of Somerville will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Vandon Windsor officiating.

Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Smallwood died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Westside Health Care Center. She was born Aug. 26, 1911, in Morgan County to James "Jim" Thomas Smallwood and Mattie Ryan Smallwood. She was a Methodist.

Survivors include one brother, Jack Smallwood of Tuscaloosa; and one sister, Evelyn Brown of Ryan.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

G.W. Thomason
73, retired construction worker

PELL CITY -- Funeral for G.W. Thomason, 73, of Pell City will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Kirkland and the Rev. Eugene Thomason officiating.

Burial will be in St. Clair Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Thomason died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at Medical Center East in Birmingham. He was born July 6, 1927, in Pell City to William F. Thomason and Laura Kay Smith Thomason. He has relatives in Decatur. He retired from Cosper Construction Co. after 25 years. He was a member of the Masonic lodge and an avid coon hunter. He was a Navy veteran and a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. He was the brother of the late Irene White.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby J. Thomason; two sons, Jimmy Thomason and Joel Thomason, both of Pell City; two daughters, Donna Jean White and Lou Boyanton, both of Pell City; three brothers, Freeman Thomason, Joe Thomason and Robert Wayne Thomason, all of Pell City; six sisters, Vida Burnham, Mavis Bice, Lou Patterson, Mary Larue and Laura Kay Ellen, all of Pell City, and Lillie Rogers of Georgia; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Eugene W. 'Red' Aday
87, railroad conductor
Graveside service for Eugene W. Aday, 87, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Theron Bill King officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Aday died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at his home. He was born Jan. 20, 1914, in Morgan County to Lucian and Ethel Aday. He was retired from L&N Railroad, where he worked as a conductor for 35 years.

Survivors include three brothers, Lucian N. Aday of Ormond Beach, Fla., Harold K. Aday of Decatur and John Gwen Aday of Huntsville; and one sister, Gertrude Wells of Decatur.

Esther Alexander
76, homemaker

MADISON -- Memorial service for Esther Alexander, 76, of Madison will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Madison United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bobbie Ray Hallbrook officiating.

The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 7 at Madison Chapel Funeral Home.

Mrs. Alexander died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at her home. She was homemaker, a member of Christian Women's Club, a volunteer for Madison Manor Nursing Home and was named Volunteer of the Year in 1980.

Survivors include three sons, Ste- ven Alexander of Madison, Michael Alexander and Dean Alexander, both of Decatur; and one grandson.

Memorials may be made to Madison United Methodist Church.

Gracie Busbey

Gracie Busbey, 93, of Decatur died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home will announce funeral arrangements.

Charles Wayne Byram
62, service representative

ATHENS -- Funeral for Charles Wayne Byram, 62, of Athens will be today at 11 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Joey Curtis and Mike Davis officiating.

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery.

Mr. Byram died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at South Baldwin Hospital in Foley. He was born Jan. 14, 1939, in Limestone County. He was a service representative for Alabama Mountain Lakes Association.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Byram; two daughters, Melanie Bridges and Janet Clounch, both of Athens; his mother, Reba Byram of Athens; two sisters, Barbara Lindsay and Patricia McCormack, both of Athens; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Wil- banks, Tom Branner, Tom McMurtry, Larry Burlingame, David Nixon, Phillip Barker and Kevin Holland.

Athens Jaycees will be honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Lonnie E. Downs
80, ConAgra retiree

Funeral for Lonnie E. Downs, 80 of Trinity will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Hill officiating.

Burial will be in Raper Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Downs died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center. He was born Aug. 17, 1920, in Morgan County to J.T. Downs and Annie Reed Downs. He retired from Con-Agra after 34 years and was a member of Stoney Acres Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran and served in the European Theater. He was the widower of Nina Downs.

Survivors include three sons, Jerome Downs Sr. of Green sboro, N.C., Thomas Downs of Las Vegas and Dennis Billings of Chattanooga; one daughter, Roger Ann Dumas of Trinity; two sisters, Dorothy White of Decatur and Louise Hogan of Hartselle; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jerome Downs Jr., Benny Dumas, Tony Dumas, Jeff Dumas, Josh Dumas and Adam Lindsey.

Betty Levean Eddy
84, homemaker

Funeral for Betty Levean Eddy, 84, of Danville will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Mayburn Crews officiating.

Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Eddy died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, in Hartselle. She was born Jan. 9, 1917, in Lawrence County to W.D. Chenault and Ollie Swindle Chenault. She was a homemaker and a member of Westlawn Church of God.

Survivors include her husband, Edgar N. Eddy; two sons, Kenneth Eddy and Alfred Eddy, both of Hartselle; two daughters, Shirley Holt of Moulton and Barbara Brown of Danville; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Clifton Moore, R.B. Kirby, Freeman Kirby, John Casteal, John T. McCleskey and J.L. Arnold.

Zill Everett
61, truck driver

MOULTON -- Funeral for Zill Everett, 61, of Russellville will be Sunday at 10 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with Marion Hulsey officiating.

Burial will be in Gargis Cemetery in Russellville. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Everett died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at University of Alabama Hospital at Birmingham. He was born March 29, 1939, in Georgia. He was a truck driver for Sunbeam Bakery.

Survivors include his wife, Iris Everett; two sons, Tony Everett of Russellville and Kevin Everett of Houston; one daughter, Gail Rainey of Leighton; one brother, Melvin Everett of Hughson, Calif.; and six sisters, Janiece Jelatis of West Point, Calif., Linda Ellerbee, Kay Thrift and Leatralle Carroll, all of Barto, Fla., June Hurley of Mayo, Fla., and Jean Basilgar of Hanceville.

Beulah B. Hogland
82, homemaker

BLOUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Beulah B. Hogland, 82, of Cullman will be today at 2 p.m. at Haw Grove Baptist Church in Cleveland with the Rev. Glen Elron and the Rev. Bobby Rogers officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Joy Cemetery with Blountsville Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Hogland died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Woodland Village Health Care Center. She was born in Cullman County to Enoch Franklin Dingler and Lillie Bell McGinnis Dingler. She was a homemaker and member of New Bethel Baptist Church. She was the widow of John Hogland.

Survivors include three daughters, Helen Pate of Blountsville, Paulette Putman of Oneonta and Elaine Burchell of Somerville; one brother, Mertis M. Dingler of Blountsville; two sisters, Lula Bell Handley and Lillie Irene Butler of LaGrange, Ga.; five half brothers, Mack Dingler, Jimmy Dingler and Jerry Dingler, all of Jasper, and Sam Dingler and Jess Dingler, both of Cullman; three half sisters, Fannie Brown and Lois Vonhiber, both of Cullman, and Bonnie Dingler of Hanceville; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Scotty Putman, Brandon Hall, Michael Stephens, Sammy Mayfield, Job Walker and Darrell Wood.

Alta V. Maples
86, homemaker

Mrs. Maples died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, in Fairfield. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry F. Maples of Fairfield and Van L. Maples of North Carolina; two daughters, Donnis Allen Terry of North Carolina and Rhonda Price of Fairfield; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Franklin D. Moore

ATHENS -- Funeral for Franklin D. Moore, 58, of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Rayburn officiating.

Burial will be in Hester Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Moore died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Jan. 18, 1943, in Scottsboro.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Moore; four sons, Frankie Moore of Hiram, Jerry Moore of Anderson, Billy Moore of Villa Rica, Ga., and Dale Wise of Madison; four daughters, Teresa McCurry of Minor Hill, Tenn., Juanita Gatlin and Barbara Smith, both of Elkmont, and Linda Ball of Hiram, Ga.; four brothers, Henry Moore, David Moore and James Moore, all of Athens, and Paul Moore of Paw Paw, Mich.; three sisters, Sarah Tyler of Athens, Margaret Gibson of Clewiston, Fla., and Wanda Tucker of Rogersville; 15 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bradley Gatlin, Brandon Gatlin, Jimmy Defoe, Larry Russell, David Townsend and Mark Moore.

Albert Norris
84, retired Air Force

MONTGOMERY -- Funeral for Albert Norris, 84, of Montgomery will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Leak-Memory Chapel with the Rev. Gary Aldridge officiating.

Burial will be in Green wood Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 7 at the chapel.

Mr. Norris died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Jackson Hospital. He was born Oct. 24, 1916, in Gainestown. He retired from the Air Force after more than 20 years of service and was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 952 of Selma.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Audrey Patterson Norris; one son, James Norris of Apple Valley, Minn.; one daughter, Nancy Pyron of Decatur; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Doug Kenerly, Joe Sutton, Jake O'Bryant, Jim Russell, Wayne Hubbard and Wendel Graham.

Memorials may be made to Thorington Road Baptist Church building fund.
