Horace Ray Nelson

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Horace Ray Nelson, 63, of Neel will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Nelson died today, Feb. 13, 2001, at his home.

The funeral home will announce complete arrangements.

Allene George Turrentine
70, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Allene George Turrentine, 70, of Hartselle will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Neel with the Rev. Tom Campbell and the Rev. Teddie Turrentine officiating.

Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Turrentine died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Jan. 29, 1931, in Cullman County to Emmett Avery George and Mary Lula Haynie George. She was a homemaker and member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Robert "Bo" Turrentine; four sons, Wayland Turrentine, Ricky Turrentine, Tony Turrentine and Brad Turrentine, all of Neel; one daughter, Doris Harris of Neel; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Harris, Gary Taylor, Wayland Turrentine, Brad Turrentine, Freddie Turrentine and Ricky Turrentine.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Shady Grove Baptist Church building fund.

William Hoyt Vest
78, retired salesman

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for William Hoyt Vest, 78, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Wendell Callahan officiating.

Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Vest died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born March 1, 1922, in Morgan County to John Milton Vest and Alice Lugenia Brumbalow Vest. He was a retired furniture salesman for Allied Sales and an Army veteran of World War II, having served in Europe.

Survivors include two sons, Allen Vest of Hartselle and Bobby Vest of Decatur; one brother, Pruitt Vest of Apple Valley, Calif.; one sister, Audrey Lamphere of Apple Valley; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Alan Hardy, Tommy Tapscott, Chris Terry, Norman Vest, Randy Vest and Tommy Vest.

Edna Mae Brown Waddell
63, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Edna Mae Brown Waddell, 63, of Hartselle will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Waddell died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Feb. 25, 1937, in Morgan County to Allen Anderson Brown and Myrtle Lee Scoggins Brown. She was a homemaker and member of Prayer Barn Pentecostal Church. She was the mother of the late Paul David Waddell.

Survivors include two sons, Thad Waddell of Danville and Richard Waddell of Hartselle; two daughters, Sharon Williams of Falkville and Shelia Mauldin of Hartselle; five brothers, James Cecil Brown of Neel, Edward Fay Brown of Anniston, Walter Ray Brown of Hartselle, William Wayne Brown of Cummings, Ga., and Carl A. Brown of Thomasville, Ga.; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Grandsons and nephews will be pallbearers.

Pete Bennett
48, custodian
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Pete Bennett, 48, of Danville will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Rock Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Bailey and the Rev. Chuck Hanvey officiating.

Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Bennett died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Jan. 16, 1953, in Kentucky to Benton Eugene Bennett and Edith Irene Davis Bennett. He worked for the Morgan County Board of Education as a custodian at Danville High School. Mr. Bennett's parents died when he was young and Monte and Shirley Livingston raised him.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Bennett; three sons, Lee Bennett of Hillsboro, Mark Bennett of Somerville and Conrad Bennett of Danville; three brothers, Benny Bennett of Moulton and Wayne Bennett and Dennis Bennett, both of Eva; three sisters, Joyce Rutherford, CeCe Harvell and Monte Lea Craft, all of Eva; his grandparents, Coleman and Wanza Livingston of Hartselle; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Lee Bennett, Marty Bennett, Michael Bennett, Monte Wayne Bennett, Edward Rutherford and Gene Rutherford.

Ruthie Nell Benson
60, homemaker

Funeral for Ruthie Nell Benson, 60, of Hartselle will be Thursday at noon at Moulton Heights Church of Christ with Harold Gilmore officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Benson died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born July 9, 1940, in Morgan County to Levi Turney and Daisy Orr Turney. She was a member of Moulton Heights Church of Christ and a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Danny Tapscott of Decatur and Dewayne Tapscott of Hartselle; one daughter, Cornelius "Nita" Draper of Hartselle; two brothers, L.J. Turney of Hartselle and Edward Turney of New Castle, Penn.; seven sisters, Catherine Davis, Curley Shelby and Jessie Muhammad, all of Hartselle, Linda King, Dorothy Dunklin, Nellie Conners, and Eloise Turney, all of Chicago; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Edward Darby, Brentson Bell Jr., Alvin Sessoms, John Murphy, Jimmy Davis and Derrick Williams.

Robert Harold Callahan
38, carpenter

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Robert Harold Callahan, 38, of Hartselle will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Ralph Henderson officiating.

Burial will be in Somerville Church of God Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Callahan died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born July 5, 1962, in Morgan County to Robert E. Callahan and Maxie Freeman Callahan. He was a self-employed carpenter.

Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Callahan; two sons, Justin Callahan and Chris Callahan, both of Hartselle; his father of Hartselle; and one sister, Bobbie Nix of Hartselle.

Pallbearers will be Paul Dunaway, Jason Dunaway, Robert Johnson, Jimmy Reeves, Ed Skelton and Michael Smith.

Lillian Letson Davis
88, retired LPN

TRINITY -- Funeral for Lillian Letson Davis, 88, of Hillsboro will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Mitch Smith and the Rev. Junior Hale officiating.

Burial will be in Ruskin Memorial Gardens in Ruskin, Fla.

Mrs. Davis died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born Sept. 20, 1912, in Lawrence County and was retired from Tampa General Hospital as a licensed practical nurse.

Pallbearers will be Perry Letson, Greg Wynn, Wesley Holland, Rodney Letson, Brandon Letson and Milton Letson Jr.

Tennis Roy Lovett
75, sheet-rock contractor

TRINITY -- Funeral for Tennis Roy Lovett, 75, of Florence will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Rickey Hughes officiating.

Burial will be in Harmony Methodist Church Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Lovett died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at his home. He was born Dec. 13, 1925, in Lawrence County to Ira Lovett and Nora Bell Terry Lovett. He was a self-employed sheet-rock contractor and was a veteran of World War II. He was the widower of Lula V. Lovett.

Survivors include one son, Mark Wood of Bessemer; two daughters, Lynell Johnston and Shirley Ray Saddler, both of Bessemer; one brother, Ira Eugene Lovett of Hillsboro; one sister, Tula Mae Henson of Florence; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Horace Ray Nelson
63, forklift driver

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Horace Ray Nelson, 63, of Neel will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with Glenn Wood and Don Crumpton officiating.

Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Nelson died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at his home. He was born April 11, 1937, in Lawrence County to James Memory Nelson and Mary Elizabeth McDougle Nelson. He was a member of Walden Chapel Baptist Church. He worked in the paint room and as a forklift driver at Nichols Aluminum.

Survivors include one son, James Ray Nelson of Hartselle; three daughters, Pam Kirby, Patsy Chell and Kristie Clemons, all of Hartselle; one brother, Millard Nelson of Danville; one sister, Linda Likens of Decatur; and eight grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Harold David Gibson, Jack Nelson, Kenny Harrison, Tommy Nelson, Jason Nelson, Stevie Ryan and Clem Sawyer.

Calvin Coolidge Steel
74, farmer

TRINITY -- Funeral for Calvin Coolidge Steel, 74, of Danville will be Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Willie Delashaw and the Rev. Ricky Shaw officiating.

Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Steel died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at his home. He was born Jan. 24, 1927, in Lawrence County to Sam Steel and Lena Steel. He was a retired farmer, and a member of Penn Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Estelle Prater Steel; two sons, Larry Steel and Davey Steel, both of Danville; three daughters, Patsy Steel of Danville, Kathy Wilhite of Falkville and Donna Jenkins of Moulton; two sisters, Lenell Guthrey of Double Springs and Mary Butler of Tennessee; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Greg Wilhite, Sammy Wilhite, Colton Steel, Darman Steel, Pete Steel and Alvin Steel.

Teddie T. Wilson
81, retired farmer

ATHENS -- Funeral for Teddie T. Wilson, 81, of Rogersville will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Hurricane Cumberland Presbyterian Church and with the Rev. Jimmy Grissom officiating.

Burial will be in Hurricane Cemetery with Spry Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Mr. Wilson died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at his home. He was born Dec. 4, 1919, in Lauderdale County. He was a retired farmer and a Baptist.

Survivors include one son, Harold Wilson of Rogersville; one sister, Lilly Chambers of Rogersville; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
