80, retired assembly line worker
ARDMORE -- Funeral for Flossye May Boyd, 80, of Toney will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Taylor-Ardmore Funeral Home with the Rev. Gil Williams officiating.

Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6:30 to 8:30 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Boyd died Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Aug. 10, 1920, to Leo S. May and Mary Culps May.

She was a longtime resident of Lewisburg, Tenn., and a former member of Cornersville Baptist Church. She retired as an assembly line worker. She was the sister of Agnes May Shields and Allen May.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Wilson Boyd; one son, Thomas Wilson Boyd Jr., of Harvest; one daughter, Vivian Boyd Sutton of Washington, Va.; one brother, Charles May of Blackstone, Va.; one sister, Ila May Campbell of Detroit; and two grandchildren.

Bernice Brown
50, retired machine operator

TRINITY -- Funeral for Bernice Brown, 50, of Decatur will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. John Z. Gray officiating and Nelms Memorial Funeral Home directing.

The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Burial will be in Sterrs Cemetery. The body will be at Sharpley Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Mrs. Brown died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at her home. She was born Dec. 21, 1950, in Decatur to Wilson Cross and Julia Burks Cross. She was a retired machine operator for Goodyear Tire & Rubber. She was a member of the St. James Primitive Baptist Church and later joined the Springhill Missionary Baptist Church. She was the mother of Stephan Decarlo Cross and the sister of Lee Cross and Wilson Cross Jr.

Survivors include three daughters, Joanna Brown of Athens and Tracey Cross and Kanilla Brown, both of Decatur; five brothers, Walter Luckett of Nigeria, Curtis Cross of Athens, Edward Cross, Jerry Cross and Johnnie Cross, all of Decatur; and six grandchildren.

Ora Lee Davis
78, homemaker

TRINITY -- Funeral for Ora Lee Davis, 78, of Hillsboro will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Claborn officiating.

Burial will be in Smyrna Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lee died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born Oct. 31, 1922, in Lawrence County to Sam Gipson and Mary Jane Gipson. She was a homemaker and was the widow of Eugene Davis.

Survivors include five sons, Samuel Davis, Nathaniel Davis and Jerry Davis, all of Hillsboro, Willard Davis of Trinity and Roger Davis of Danville; two daughters, Ora Dean Letson and Joyce Brown, both of Decatur; one brother, Elbert Gipson of Michigan; one sister, Cora Lee Terry of Hillsboro; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Tolbert, Timmy Davis, Patrick Davis, Gwyn Letson, Jimmy L. Letson and Jerry Davis.

William 'Buddy' Flanagan

ATHENS -- Graveside service for William "Buddy" Flanagan, of Louisville, Ky., formerly of Athens, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Thatch-Mann Cemetery with People's Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Flanagan, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, in Louisville. People's Funeral Home will announce further arrangements.

Ethel Johnson
82, homemaker

ROGERSVILLE -- Funeral for Ethel Johnson, 82, of Anderson was to be today at 2 p.m. at Twin Oaks Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Howe officiating.

Burial was to be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence. She was born Feb. 4, 1919, in Lauderdale County. She was a lifelong resident of Lauderdale County and a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Anderson. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, Billy Ross Johnson of Decatur; one daughter, Katrina Bulter of Anderson; three brothers, Edgar Williams of Florence, and J.C. Williams and Eroy Williams, both of Birmingham; one sister, Esther Johnson of Anderson; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Anderson were to be pallbearers.

Tennis Roy Lovett
75, retired sheet-rock contractor

TRINITY -- Funeral for Tennis Roy Lovett, 75, of Florence will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Rickey Hughes officiating.

Burial will be in Harmony Methodist Church Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Lovett died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at his home. He was born Dec. 13, 1925, in Lawrence County to Ira Lovett and Nora Bell Terry Lovett. He was retired as a self-employed sheet-rock contractor and was a veteran of World War II. He was the widower of Lula V. Lovett.

Survivors include one son, Mark Wood of Bessemer; two daughters, Lynell Johnston and Shirley Ray Saddler, both of Bessemer; one brother, Ira Eugene Lovett of Hillsboro; one sister, Tula Mae Henson of Florence; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

LeVolia 'Doc' Smith
89, retired custodian

Funeral for LaVolia "Doc" Smith, 89, of Courtland will be Saturday at noon at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Marcus Davidson officiating.

Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Smith died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation in Decatur. He was born Jan. 26, 1912, in Lawrence County to Alvin Smith and Stella Garner Smith. He was a retired custodian and a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include eight sons, Andrew Scruggs of Cleveland, Ohio, LaVolia Smith Jr. and Bobby Smith, both of Courtland, John Smith of Chicago, Jerry Smith, Fred Smith and Rufus Braden, all of Decatur, and Robert Braden of Huntsville; 10 daughters, Celestine Smiley of Chicago, Nadine Clopton of Courtland, Clara Sherrod, Alice Ricks and Tracie Austin, all of Hillsboro, Delores Smith, Rose Elliott, Mylyn Braden and Jeanette Young, all of Decatur, and Brenda Suggs of San Diego; 55 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Smith, Courtney Smith, Obrien Smith, Tony Clopton, Larry Clopton and Ernest Sherrod Jr.

Colton Michael Dean

MOULTON -- Funeral for Colton Michael Dean, 3, of Moulton will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jackie Shelton officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Garden with Lawrence Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.

The child died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at his home. He was born March 8, 1997, in Lawrence County to Mike Dean and Tina Dean.

Survivors include his parents of Moulton; and his grandparents, Glenn and Dorothy Latham of Landersville and Ronald and Bonnie Dean of Middletown, Ohio;

Pallbearers will be Keith Terry, Jarrod "Jody" Jones, Garland Jones, Robert Norwood, Glenn Walton and Royal Jones.

M.E. 'Gene' Helms
74, engineer

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for M.E. "Gene" Helms, 74, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Mac Buttram officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Helms died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Feb. 28, 1926, in Jefferson County to Byrd D. Helms and Lillian Griffin Helms. He was a World War II veteran who served in the United States Navy as a seaman first class. He served with the United States Pamanset Reunion Organization. He was father of the late Peggy Lassiter Boyd and brother of the late Dee Helms. He worked as director of engineering at Speedring in Cullman.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Helms; two sons, Danny Helms of Hartselle and Jeff Helms of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three sisters, Molene Mashburn of Ashville, Juanita Ragan of Birmingham and Cordelia Sanderson of Pendleton, S.C.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Donald Helms, William Helms, Ron Mann, Guy Norman, Ken Samp and Frank Self.

Russell Lynn Sivley

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Russell Lynn Sivley, 41, of Fulton, Mo., and formerly of Brooksville, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. David Calhoun officiating.

Burial will be in New Center Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Sivley died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at his home. He was born Aug. 13, 1959, in Hartselle to James Edward Sivley and Mildred Ezell Johnson Wilhoite. He was a self-employed logger.

Survivors include his father of Brooksville; his mother of Hartselle; his stepfather, Harry Lee Wilhoite of Hartselle; his stepmother, Mary Sivley of Brooksville; one son, Justin Heath Sivley of Birmingham; two brothers, Stephen Allen Sivley of Hartselle and Graylon Guyton Sivley of Brooksville; three sisters, Patricia Ann Beavers and Sandra Kay Cannon, both of Hartselle, and Brenda Joyce Anders of Symrna, Tenn.; three half-brothers, Robert Frank Sivley, Douglas Gerome Sivley and Calvin Howard Sivley, all of Brooksville; and one grandson.

Pallbearers will be Rickey Bracken, Matt Ricks, Randall Ricks, Johnny Sivley, Gary Slaten and Jeff Turney.
