Clara Delmar Miller
93, senior companion

Funeral for Clara Delmar Miller, 93, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Cagle and the Rev. Lucky Teague officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Miller died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at her home. She was born Dec. 5, 1907, in Cookeville, Tenn., to Isaac Bart Robinson and Sarah Mattie Meadows Robinson. She was a homemaker, a member of Flint Baptist Church and worked as a senior companion. She was the widow of Lonie O. Miller and the mother of the late Mildred Curbow.

Survivors include three sons, Gene Miller and Odene Miller, both of Decatur, and Donald Miller of Hartselle; one daughter, Euvonne Nichols of Hanceville; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Macy Jeffreys Moore
84, nursing home retiree

MOULTON -- Funeral for Macy Jeffreys Moore, 84, of Moulton was to be today at 11 a.m. at Elliott Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Goodlett officiating.

Burial was to be in Moulton Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Moore died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born June 12, 1916, in Lawrence County to George Washington Jeffreys and Willie Brewer Jeffreys. She was a Baptist and worked at Moulton Nursing Home for 21 years.

Survivors include three sons, R.L. Moore of Chicago, Billy Moore of DeBary, Fla., and Bobby Moore of Moulton; two daughters, Ann Patrick of Town Creek and Peggy Terry of Moulton; one stepson, Hershel Moore of DeLand, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Corine Henson and Augzelle Henson, both of Mount Hope; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Jason Terry, Jared Terry, Lewis Gordon, Travis Davis, Dylan Jones and Brandon Jones.

Thelma Rosena Perry
81, homemaker

Funeral for Thelma Rosena Perry, 81, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Glasscock officiating.

Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Perry died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Oct. 21, 1919, in Cullman County to George and Arie Crumbley. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Austinville. She was the widow of Marvin Perry.

Survivors include one brother, Leon Crumbley of Guntersville; and three sisters, Nodie Stewart and Gladys Harris, both of Cullman, and Alice Good of Guntersville.

Charles Edward Shaffer Jr.
62, metallurgical engineer

HOMEWOOD -- Funeral for Charles Edward Shaffer Jr., 62, of Homewood will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church with Ridout's Valley Chapel directing.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m.

Mr. Shaffer died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at home. He was born Aug. 24, 1938, in Birmingham. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and a metallurgical engineer for Law Engineering in Birmingham.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Evelyn B. Shaffer; two sons, Charles Freeman Shaffer of Whitwell, Tenn., and James Kenneth Shaffer of Homewood; two daughters, Allison Annmarie Shaffer and Catherine Suzanne Shaffer, both of Homewood; two brothers, William C. Shaffer of Decatur and James G. Shaffer in Maylene; and one sister, Mary Catherine Young of Birmingham.

Memorials may be made to Unity Hospice or to Magic Moments at Children's Hospital.

Brice Varnon Sterling
66, Army retiree

MOULTON -- Funeral for Brice Varnon Sterling, 66, of Huntsville will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Aldridge Grove Church of Christ with Tim Price officiating.

Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with full military honors and Elliott Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Sterling died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born May 25, 1934, in Lawrence County to Rubert and Hester Sterling. He was retired from the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Woodard Sterling; two sons, Kevin Sterling of Saudi Arabia and Brice Michael Sterling of Chattanooga; and one daughter, Ginger Cole of Marietta, Ga.

Ruby Brakefield
86, retired school teacher
ATHENS -- Funeral for Ruby Brakefield, 86, of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Warren Glass officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Brakefield died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born June 9, 1914, in Pettusville. She was a Limestone County schoolteacher who retired after 39½ years with the system. She was a member of Market Street Church of Christ. She was the widow of Walter Brakefield and the sister of C.L. Spence.

Survivors include one daughter, Shela Wales Smith of Athens; one sister, Martha Pettus of Elkmont; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Grady Spence, Ben Pettus, Steve Pettus, Tom Dunnavant, Roger Sanderson and Jimmy Wales.

Courtney Bernard Diamond

HARTSELLE -- Courtney Bernard Diamond, 57, of Valhermoso Springs died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, in Madison County. Peck Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

Pryce Byrd Gibson
85, research agronamist

HARTSELLE -- Graveside services for Pryce Byrd Gibson, 85, of Shelby, N.C., and formerly of Morgan County, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Herring Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 at the funeral home.

Mr. Gibson died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, in Sterling House of Shelby. He was born Oct. 18, 1915, in Vinemont to John Walker and Mary Emily Spiegel Gibson. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Auburn University and received a Ph.D. in plant genetics from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He was a research scientist for the United States Department of Agriculture's crop division at Clemson University for 25 years and an associate professor at Auburn University for five years. He served as a U.S. Army captain during World War II and a field artillery officer in the United States and the Philippines. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of America.

Survivors include three sons, Tom Gibson of Penn Yan, N.Y., Steve Gibson of Shelby and Bill Gibson of Grand Junction, Co.; one daughter, Elizabeth Jennings of Hendersonville, N.C.; one sister, Buena Gibson Martin of Hartselle; and seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Spartanburg Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 1801 Skylyn Dr., Spartanburg, S.C. 29307 or to Hospice of Wendover, 951 Wendover Dr., Shelby, N.C. 28150.

Billy Frank Hogan
68, pipefitter

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Billy Frank Hogan, 68, of Danville will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Compton officiating.

Burial will be in Andrews Chapel Cemetery, south of Danville. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hogan died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born March 15, 1932, in Morgan County to Franklin Herman Hogan and Eulus Irene Evans Hogan. He worked as a pipefitter. He served in the 350th Infantry Regiment from December 1953 to September 1955 in Austria. He was a Mason and a member of the Mount Nebo Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Doyle Hogan; two sons, David K. Hogan of Decatur and Derek K. Hogan of Hartselle; four daughters, Donna Smith of Danville, Daina Horton of Moulton and Darla Kelsoe and Deborah Bell, both of Falkville; two brothers, Legraunde Hogan of Tallahassee, Fla. and Wayne H. Hogan of Hartselle; one sister, Patricia Frese of Vinemont; and 10 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Hogan, Mark Hogan, John Holland, Bobby Ward, Tim Hogan and Darryl Hogan.

Dewey L. Ledlow
80, retired machine operator

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Dewey L. Ledlow, 80, of Hartselle will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Huey and the Rev. Wendell Callahan officiating.

Burial will be in Enon Cemetery in Lawrence County. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Ledlow died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at South Morgan Health Care Center. He was born Nov. 16, 1920, in Morgan County to Tarrence Ledlow and Knellie Wilborn Ledlow. He was a machine operator, who retired from Wolverine Tube after 23½ years of service. He was a farmer and a former employee of Baggett Transportation and the Tutwiler Hotel. He was a Baptist. He was the father of Terry Dewey Ledlow and the stepfather of Billy Osborn.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Ledlow; one son, Billy Ledlow of Danville; two daughters, Virginia Standridge and Faye Lowery, both of Decatur; one stepson, Gene Osborn of Albertville; one stepdaughter, Linda Widner of Falkville; two sisters, Mae Owen and Minnie Hensley, both of Danville; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tom Owen, Micheal Standridge, John McCary, Mark Howard, Allen Hopper and Byron Faulkner.

Bret Stephen Martin
37, construction company co-owner

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- A private memorial is planned for Bret Stephen Martin, 37, of Clearwater.

Mr. Martin died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, in Clearwater. He was born Dec. 30, 1963, in Decatur to Troy O. Martin Jr. and Bettye S. Martin. He was the co-owner of a construction company.

Survivors include two brothers, Duff Blount Martin of Decatur and Troy O. Martin III; and one sister, Lisa Martin Vickers of Trinity.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice of Florida Sun Coast, 300 East Bay Drive, Largo, FL 33770.

Mildred Inez Moran
82, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Mildred Inez Moran, 82, of Athens was Friday at Spry Funeral Home with Bill Irby officiating.

Burial was in O'Neal Cemetery.

Mrs. Moran died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born March. 7, 1918, in Limestone County. She was a homemaker and a member of Hobbs Street Church of Christ. She was the widow of Arthur Lee Moran Sr. and the mother of Donald Moran.

Survivors include four daughters, Ruby Scott of Elkmont and Joyce Taylor, Connie Davis and Pat Jones, all of Athens; two sons, Arthur Lee Moran Jr. of Eufala and Phillip Ray Moran of Athens; one sister, Irene Martin of Athens; 22 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Glenn Davis Jr., Lynn Moran, Chase Jones, Jason Moran, Keith Taylor and Jimmy Moran.

Susan B. Hayes Schatz
38, homemaker

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -- Funeral for Susan B. Hayes Schatz, 38, of Douglasville and formerly of Decatur, will be today at 4 p.m. at Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours before the service.

Mrs. Schatz died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Cobb Hospital in Atlanta. She was born April 28, 1962, in Decatur. She was a homemaker and confirmed in the Episcopal Church. She was the daughter of Billy Hayes.

Survivors include her husband, David L. Schatz; one son, Clint A. Hayes of Douglasville; her mother, Ann M. McNorton of Douglasville; her stepfather, Sherman McNorton of Douglasville; and one sister, Jill Hayes of Douglasville.
