Funeral for Arlene Emerson Orr, 82, of Somerville will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mount Moriah United Methodist Church at Valhermoso Springs with the Rev. Paul Howard Orr officiating.

Burial will be in Curry Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Sharpley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Orr died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Jan. 18, 1919, in Morgan County to Luke Emerson and Roxie Draper Emerson. She was a member of Curry Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. She was the sister of the late Maggie Emerson Davis, Millie Emerson Wood, Henrietta Emerson Gurley, William Lincoln Emerson, Edward Emerson, Howard Emerson, Cisero Emerson, John Simpson Emerson and Jim Emerson.

Survivors include three sons, Donald Orr of Huntsville, Paul Howard Orr of Decatur and Luther Orr of Nashville; one daughter, Dorothy Mae Orr of Somerville; two sisters, Roxie Emerson Gurley and Sally Emerson Sharpley, both of Somerville, nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Annie Mary Owens
59, mail courier

Funeral for Annie Mary Owens, 59, of Decatur will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. John Z. Gray officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Owens Cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Ms. Owens died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at her home. She was born July 4, 1941, in Lawrence County to James Owens and Clara Troup Owens. She was a member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church and served as vice president of the Usher Board and president of the Food Committee. She was a mail courier at Tri-County Industries.

Survivors include two sons, James Billings of Albuquerque, N.M., and Eric Tyrone Billings of Decatur; two daughters, Sharon Carter and Vonnie Billings, both of Decatur; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be officers at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church.

William Edward Swaner Jr.
84, retired milk production manager

TRUSSVILLE -- Funeral for William Edward Swaner Jr., 84, of Birmingham will be Saturday at noon at Jefferson Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Esco McBay officiating.

Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. The family will receive friends today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Swaner died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, in Lake Wales, Fla. He was born Aug. 19, 1916, in Lincoln County, Tenn. He was a retired milk production manager from Consolidated Dairies and a member of South Avondale Baptist Church. He was the widower of Anne Lena Vassar Swaner.

Survivors include three daughters, Janice Curlee of Decatur; Nadine Tucker of Orlando, Fla., and Becky Kenderdine of Shelby; two sisters, Annie Hill of Ardmore and Dot Broadway of Huntsville; and three grandchildren.

Clara L. Casteel
77, Wal-Mart employee
ATHENS -- Funeral for Clara L. Casteel, 77, of Athens will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Dusty McLemore officiating.

Burial will be in Giles Memory Gardens in Pulaski, Tenn. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Casteel died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at her son's home. She was born Aug. 23, 1923, in Lawrence County, Tenn., to Jimmy and Mary Rose. She was a long-time Athens Wal-Mart employee, a member of Lindsay Lane Baptist Church and the widow of J.W. Casteel.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Casteel of Frisco, Texas, and Tony Casteel of Capshaw; three sisters, Ellon Pickett of Fayetteville, Tenn., and Josie Risner and Dot Smith, both of Pulaski, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Casteel, Todd Pickett, Brian Crane, Barry Risner, Ralph Smith and Stacey Smith.

Memorials be made to Hospice of Limestone County.

Billy Gene Clemons

HARTSELLE -- Billy Gene Clemons, 64, of Falkville died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Falkville Health Care Center.

He was born Oct. 17, 1936, in Morgan County to Patrick Clemons and Rudy Miller Clemons. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include one son, Billy Gene Clemons Jr., of Trinity; one daughter, Suzanne Wallace of Decatur; and two grandchildren.

Nettie Ruth Dement
64, former Redstone Arsenal Commissary employee

ATHENS -- Funeral for Nettie Ruth Dement, 64, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny McMullins and the Rev. Billy Schrimsher officiating.

Burial was to be in Athens City Cemetery.

Mrs. Dement died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Oct. 8, 1936, in Limestone County. She was a former employee at Redstone Arsenal Commissary and a member of First Union Baptist Church. She was an avid poem writer and songwriter.

Survivors include her husband, Sam "Doonie" Dement Jr.; two sons, Wayne Brandon Dement and Ricky Dement, both of Athens; one daughter, Jennifer Dement McCarver of Athens; two brothers, Carl Schrimsher and the Rev. Billy Schrimsher, both of Decatur; one sister, Ruby Jean Schrimsher Edge of Madison; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Deacons of First Union Baptist Church were to be pallbearers.

Huey Wayne Owens Sr.
50, insulation company owner

Funeral for Huey Wayne Owens Sr., 50, of Decatur was to be today at 3 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Turner officiating.

Burial was to be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Owens died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at his home. He was born Oct. 8, 1950, in Lawrence County to Huey Jackson Owens and Grace Owens. He owned BQ Insulation.

Survivors include two sons, Huey Wayne Owens Jr. and Jordon Blake Owens, both of Decatur; two daughters, Kim Smith and Lesha Phillips, both of Decatur; two brothers, Jimmy Owens of Moulton and Gary Owens of Athens; two sisters, Joyce Black and Margaret Head, both of Decatur; his mother of Decatur; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Michael Terry, Anthony Black, Jimmy Owens Jr., Gary David Owens, Tommy Cammon and Mike Gillespie.

James Randall 'Randy' Williams

WAVERLY, Tenn. -- Funeral for James Randall "Randy" Williams, 33, of Waverly will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Luff Bowen Funeral Home in Waverly with Andy Jarrett officiating.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Williams died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Three Rivers Hospital in Waverly.

He was born March 31, 1967, in Waverly to Ronald Howard Williams and Diana Faye Pirtle Williams. He was an electrician for the Local 429 and a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his father, Ronald Williams of Decatur; his mother, Diana Bowers of Waverly; one brother, Jeff Williams of Waverly; one sister, Jeneen Williams of Decatur; and his grandparents, Jesse "Dutch" Pirtle and Elizabeth Pirtle of Waverly.

Charles Louis Wilson Sr.
60, Athens City Utilities employee

ATHENS -- Funeral for Charles Louis Wilson Sr., 60, of Lester was to be today at 1 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Glen Keenon and the Rev. Donald Terry officiating.

Burial was to be in Sardis Springs Cemetery.

Mr. Wilson died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at his home. He was born Oct. 22, 1940, in Limestone County to Floyd Wilson and Mamie Wilson.

He worked for Athens City Utilities for 22 years and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Bethel Church of Christ. He was the widower of Judy Hargrove Wilson and the father of Hassie Renee Wilson.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Wilson Jr. and Marty Wilson, both of Lester; one daughter, Amanda Lee Siniard, of Lester; six brothers, Bobby Wilson of Bynum, Floyd Wilson of Selma and Tommie Wilson, Lonnie Wilson, Randy Wilson and Sandy Wilson, all of Athens; six sisters, Martha Lintz of Ohio, Margie Lee of Pensacola, Fla., Edith Salter of Bessemer, Betty Thornton of Ardmore, Peggy Taylor of Athens and Linda Hargrove of Harvest; one grandson; and two granddaughters.

Pallbearers were to be Keith Wilson, Rodney Wilson, Bradley Wilson, Travis Taylor, Scottie Taylor, Junior Thornton and James Wilson.

Ms. Briley died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Russellville Hospital. She was born Dec. 5, 1910, in Franklin County to Clarence Bower and Evie Porter Bower. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, Clarence Briley of Russellville; two daughters, Carrine Richie of Leighton and Evie Terry of Town Creek; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hyde died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born Feb. 16, 1926, in Cullman County to David Tucker and Elizabeth Harris Tucker. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, David Taylor of Cullman and Steve Taylor of Arab; one daughter, Jan Kent of Decatur; one brother, Roy Tucker of Birmingham; two sisters, Myrtice Bolzle and Buna Carter, both of Cullman; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Bret Stephen Martin

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- A private memorial is planned for Bret Stephen Martin, 37, of Clearwater.

Mr. Martin died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, in Clearwater. He was born Dec. 30, 1963, in Decatur to Troy O. Martin Jr. and Bettye S. Martin. He was the co-owner of a construction company.

Survivors include two brothers, Duff Blount Martin of Decatur and Troy O. Martin III; and one sister, Lisa Martin Vickers of Trinity.
