FLORENCE -- Memorial service for Joan McDowell, 65, of Killen will be Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Elkins East Chapel with Stan Dean officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours before the service.

Mrs. McDowell died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence. She was born Dec. 3, 1935, in Haywood County, N.C. She was homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Neal McDowell; two sons, Steve McDowell of Hershey, Pa., and Jerry McDowell of Rogersville; one daughter, Rachel Brewer of Killen; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Hospital or the American Cancer Society.

Mary Cathleene Waddell
81, U. S. Navy Department employee

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Mary Cathleene Waddell, 81, of Rogersville was to be today at 12:30 at Civitan Cemetery in Rogersville with Jody Hill officiating and Spry Funeral Home directing.

Miss Waddell died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Limestone Health Facility. She was born Aug. 26, 1919, in Lauderdale County to Dr. John R. Waddell and Mary Waddell. She graduated from Lauderdale County High School and University of Montevallo and retired from the U.S. Navy Department. She was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Rogersville. She was the sister of the late Charles Elston Waddell and Josie Flippen.

Survivors include one brother, Dr. John R. Waddell Jr. of Athens; three sisters, Dorothy Leach of Decatur, Maude Wagner of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Virginia Cobbs of Blackstone, Va.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Charlie O. Benson Jr.
71, civil engineer
Funeral for Charlie O. Benson Jr., 71, of Decatur will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Coomer officiating.

Burial will be at 1 p.m. at Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Scottsboro. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Benson died Thursday, March 1, 2001, at home. He was born Jan. 9, 1930, in Jackson County to Charlie Benson Sr. and Ada Benson. He retired from the Alabama Department of Transportation, where he was a civil engineer. He served in the National Guard. He was the father of the late Patricia Benson.

Survivors include two sons, Steve Benson and Scott Benson, both of Decatur; one daughter, Bobbie Lamon of Decatur; one brother, Truman Benson of Scottsboro; two sisters, Izella Proctor of Scottsboro and Betty Godwin of North Carolina; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Steve Benson, Scott Benson, Tray Tucker, Paul Lamon, Allen Carpenter and Lee McPherson.

Rosie Burden
87, homemaker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Rosie Burden, 87, of Moulton will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Pullen officiating.

Burial will be in Clardy Cemetery in Hillsboro. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Burden died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born Sept. 27, 1913, in Tennessee, to Gains Bankston and Belle Vinson Bankston. She was a homemaker and the widow of Johnnie Burden.

Survivors include seven daughters, Bertha Fagan of Wersdale, Fla., Betty Legg of Moulton, Bonnie Pullen of Hillsboro, Christine Montgomery of Muscle Shoals, Clista Gurley of Phoenix and Diane Vinson of Albany, La.; one brother, C.H. Bankston of Georgia; one sister, Mary Ellen Sparks of Trinity; 27 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Charles M. Dockery
83, Hewlett-Packard retiree

Memorial service for Charles M. Dockery, 83, of Decatur will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Hal Noble and Tim Taylor officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Dockery died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Jan. 12, 1918, in Tuscaloosa County. He was retired from Hewlett-Packard.

Survivors include his wife, Alene Dockery; one son, Charles L. Dockery of Portland, Ore.; one stepson, Bruce Chittick of Baltimore, Md.; one stepdaughter, Sandra Sanders of Knoxville, Tenn.; one sister, Mary Nalor of Foley; 11 grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association.

Jackie Lamar Terry
48, disabled

MOULTON -- Funeral for Jackie Lamar Terry, 48, of Moulton will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Albert Hodges officiating.

Burial will be in Old Liberty Cemetery in Town Creek. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Terry died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born Oct. 18, 1952, in Lawrence County, to Steve Z. Terry and Nora Terry. Mr. Terry was disabled.

Survivors include his mother, who lives in Moulton; three brothers, Rayburn Terry of Moulton, Daniel Terry and Larry Terry, both of Town Creek; three sisters, Shirley Owens and Nora Dean Reed, both of Moulton and Cathrine Hill of Town Creek.

Pallbearers will be Gary Vess, Randy Letson, Mike Letson, Wayne Vess, Lamar Vess and Chris Vess.

Jewell Virtell Thomas
89, homemaker

LAWRENCEBURG, Tenn. -- Funeral for Jewell Virtell Thomas, 89, of Leoma, Tenn., will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Neal Funeral Home with Dell Sewell officiating.

Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery in Leoma. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours before the service.

Mrs. Thomas died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Sunbridge Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 10, 1911, in Cedartown, Ga. She was a homemaker and a member of Ramah Baptist Church. She was the widow of Clyde Thomas and the mother of the late Clyde Thomas Jr.

Survivors include two sons, Morris Ray Thomas of Killen and Melvin Thomas of Leoma; four daughters, Eloise Yeager of Florence, Peggy Porter of Killen, and Sandra Thomas and Kathy Thomas, both of Lawrenceburg; one sister, Cleo Thompson of Madison; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Margaret Giles Thrasher
75, retired contract specialist

HARTSELLE -- Graveside service for Margaret Giles Thrasher, 75, of Daphne, formerly of Hartselle, will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Hartselle Memory Gardens with the Rev. Ron Wilson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Thrasher died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center in Daphne. She was born Aug. 8, 1925, in Morgan County to James Hector Giles and Looney Levonia Segars Giles. She was a member of First Baptist Church and retired as a Department of the Army contract specialist.

Survivors include one son, B.D. Thrasher of Loxley; one daughter, Jeanne Hammonds of Goodyear, Ariz.; one brother, James Giles of Albertville; one sister, Joan Alvis of Falkville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dan Bennich, Tom Bennich, Sam Boster, Bob Pickens, Fred Stacks and Bart Tittle.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church library or to the Alzheimer's Association.

William Sutton Wagoner Jr.
66, B.F. Goodrich Chemical operator

LEBANON, Tenn. -- Graveside service for William Sutton Wagoner Jr., 66, of Eddyville, Ky., will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Russellville with Nick Faught officiating and Partlow Funeral Chapel directing.

Mr. Wagoner died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in Lebanon. He was born Nov. 24, 1934, in Russellville to William Sutton Wagoner Sr. and Estelle Hall Wagoner. He was a resident of Eddyville for 25 years. He was a Navy veteran, a member of the United Methodist Church and a chemical operator for B.F. Goodrich Chemical Co.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Joyce Faught Wagoner; one son, William Sutton Wagoner III of Eddyville; two daughters, Stephanie Wagoner Teichmiller of Decatur and Julie Wagoner Terry of Lebanon; his mother of Sheffield; one sister, Diane Hester of Birmingham; and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice.

James Harlon Wallace
84, retired electrician

Funeral for James Harlon Wallace, 84, of Decatur will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with Mike Nix officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Wallace died Thursday, March 1, 2001, at his home. He was born Aug. 23, 1916, in Lauderdale County to William Venton Wallace and Hattie Lou Hooie Wallace. He was a retired electrician and a member of Beltline Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Rumell Malone Wallace; two sons, John Talmadge Wallace of Miami, Fla., and James Harlon Wallace Jr. of Decatur; two brothers, Talmadge Wallace of Decatur and William Venton Wallace of Whitehouse, Tenn.; one sister, Ola Dean Clark of Muscle Shoals; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Leslie Wallace, Tim Wallace, Robert Wallace, Bill Wallace, Ricky Moore and Brad Quattlebaum.

Olena Eady Collins
80, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Olena Collins, 80, of Hartselle will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with Alan Yeater officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Collins died Thursday, March 1, 2001, at Carraway Methodist Medical Center. She was born Nov. 29, 1920, in Lawrence County to George W. Eady and Minnie K. Eady. She was a homemaker, a member of Westview Church of Christ and was valedictorian of her class at Hazlewood High School. She was the widow of Cecil C. Collins and the sister of the late Edgar Eady, Willis Eady, George Larimore Eady, Berdie Eady, Dena Eady, Vera Eady and Verda Eady Moran.

Survivors include one son, Ray Collins of Ozark; one daughter, Carla Collins Holmes of Hartselle; one brother, Herbert Eady of Muscle Shoals; one sister, Bertha Eady Thrasher of Moulton; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Bone, Reggie Corum, Max Eady, Jackie Holmes, Gary Moran, Bobby Proctor, Ronald Thrasher and Alan Watkins.

Jewell Coker Geddes
95, cafeteria manager

GULFPORT, Miss. -- Funeral for Jewell A. Coker Geddes, 95, of Pass Christian, Miss., was Friday at Long Beach Church of Christ.

Mrs. Geddes died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at her home.

She was born Oct. 12, 1905, in Oklahoma to John Kenner Coker and Laura Gordon Coker. She was a retired school cafeteria manager in Fairfax, Va., and past president of the School Food Service Association. She was a member of Long Beach Church of Christ. She was the widow of William Hodge Geddes.

Survivors include five sons, Wilburt Geddes of Pass Christian, Roland Geddes of Tappahannock, Va., Max Geddes of Winchester, Va., Kenneth Geddes of Pinehurst, N.C., and Phillip Geddes of Decatur; one daughter, Carol Newman of Long Beach; one sister, Mary Daly of Port Orchard, Wash.; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
