Funeral for Myrtle L. Bartlett, 64, of Hillsboro will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Compton officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bartlett died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Jan. 22, 1937, in Limestone County to Walter Haggermaker and Fannie Moyers Haggermaker. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Floyd E. Bartlett; one son, Dewayne E. Bartlett of Evergreen; four daughters, Wanda Lou Ellett of Decatur, Peggy Henderson of Hillsboro, Melissa Bartlett of Blue Springs, Miss., and Melinda Bartlett of Tupelo, Miss.; four sisters, Evelee Jones and Belle Street, both of Columbia, Tenn., Ruby Bagsby of Elkmont and Maggie Webster; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Robert Henderson, Hershell Brown, David Henderson, Keith Nelms, Bobby Cox and Tom Jones.

Emily Lyle Bradley

Graveside service for Emily Lyle Bradley, 91, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with the Rev. Stephen Screws officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Bradley died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at her home.

She was born Nov. 8, 1909, in Decatur. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Athens and was retired from the Alabama Welfare Department.

Survivors include nephews and nieces.

Aloma Massey Calhoun
57, dispatcher

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Aloma Massey Calhoun, 57, of Hartselle will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Brooks Barkley and the Rev. Jimmy Legg officiating.

Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Calhoun died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Sept. 29, 1943, in Houston County to James Massey and Nadine Hughes Massey. She was a Baptist. She was dispatcher for Dedicated Fleet for 17 years.

Survivors include her husband, William R. Calhoun; one son, William Keith Calhoun of Gardendale; two brothers, Landon Massey of Phoenix City and Leland Massey of Westpoint, Ga.; one sister, Roma Woodham of Centerville; and two granddaughters.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Patterson, Redford Williams, Tim Mann, Chris Burgess, Tony Riddlehoover and Gene Keenum.

Memorials may be made to the Hartselle Public Library.

Jennie Ralls Dixon

Graveside service for Jennie Rawls Dixon of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with Mike King officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Dixon died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Glenwood Nursing Home in Florence. She was born in Lincoln County, Tenn., to Hugh Rawls and Alma Twitty Rawls. She was a member of Grant Street Church of Christ. She was the widow of Garland Hayes Dixon and mother of Edward Harold Dixon.

Survivors include three sisters, Nadine Walker of Hopkinsville, Ky., Josephine Howard of Tuscaloosa, and Louise Leet of Demopolis; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Robert Thomas Gibson
65, retired office manager

OCOEE, Fla. -- Graveside service for Robert Thomas Gibson, 65, of Orlando will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Johan Berg officiating and Collison Carey Hand Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Gibson died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Hospice Care Center in Winter Park, Fla. He was born Sept. 6, 1935, in Atlanta to Robert R. Gibson and Florence Hendry Gibson Little. He retired as office manager for Discount Diazo Inc. in Orlando. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8152 and a member of American Legion Post 0019. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Athens, where he lived for 12 years. He moved to Central Florida in 1980.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Gibson; two sons, Mark Gibson of Athens and George Gibson of Apopka, Fla.; one daughter, Doris Brown of Athens; his mother of Orlando; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Fred McDonald
82, retired farmer

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Fred McDonald, 82, of Hartselle will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Reynolds Hall and the Rev. Wendell Callahan officiating.

Burial will be in Red Hill Cemetery in Lawrence County. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. McDonald died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at his residence. He was born July 12, 1918, in Lawrence County to William Henry McDonald and Sarah Katherine Hunter McDonald. He was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church and a retired farmer. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was the father of William Roger McDonald and brother of Arthur McDonald, Edd McDonald, Lela Blackston and Lena NeSmith.

Survivors include four sons, Jerry McDonald of Tanner, Bruce McDonald of Decatur, Billy Dale McDonald of Danville and John William McDonald of Hartselle; four daughters, Lynda McCay of Danville, Mary Jane Moore of Hartselle, Francis Ann Garner of Toney and Janette Irene McDonald of Decatur; two brothers, Albert McDonald and William Howard McDonald, both of Moulton; two sisters, Gracie Mae Ferguson of Trinity and Mable Hampton of Moulton; 26 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be Billy J. Bates, Mike Butler, Roy Fortenberry, Troy Fortenberry, Bobby Niles and Stacy Clinard.

Florence Morris
88, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Florence Morris, 88, of Falkville will be tonight at 7 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Lindsey Herndon officiating.

Burial will be in Jones Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Morris died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born Jan. 9, 1913, in Morgan County to David Cullen Murphy and Mary Katherine Walls Murphy. She was a member of Piney Grove Christian Church since 1929. She was a homemaker and the widow of Roy Morris.

Survivors include two sons, Frank Morris and Ernest Morris, both of Falkville; two daughters, Katherine Morris Ray of Decatur and Jo Helen Morris Wilson of Hanceville; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Foote, Norman Foote, Eric Ray, Keith Ray, Jim Wilson and Mark Wilson.

Herman Lee Smith
65, retired ICP employee

CORNERSVILLE, Tenn. -- Funeral for Herman Lee Smith, 65, of Cornersville will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Cornersville Funeral Home with Clay Derryberry officiating.

Burial will be in Mars Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Marshall Medical Center. He was born March 17, 1935, in Marshall County, Tenn., to Frank Smith and Effie Johnson Smith. He retired from ICP Corporation in Lewisburg, Tenn., after 42 years.

Survivors include two sons, Gary L. Smith of Michigan and Donald W. Smith of Cornersville; one daughter, Cheryl Campbell of Cornersville; two brothers, Morris Smith of Tucson, Ariz., and Jimmy Smith of Decatur; two sisters, Edwina Thompson of Lewisburg, Tenn., and Janice Doggett of Cullman; and five grandchildren.

Samuel Pryor Surles
71, civic leader

Funeral for Samuel Pryor Surles, 71, of Decatur will be Saturday at noon at St. James Cumberland Presbyterian Church of America with the Rev. India J. Scruggs officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Memorial Gardens with Sharpley Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6 to 7 at the church. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Surles died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born April 14, 1929, in Madison County to Tom P. Surles and Amanda Harris Surles. He was a community leader and a member of St. James Cumberland Presbyterian Church of America, where he served as an elder. He was commander of American Legion Post 310, volunteer for the American Red Cross, chairman of District 1 Community Organization, and member of the Citizens Police Academy, Alabama Democratic Conference and board of directors of Christmas in April. He retired in 1991 from Champion International in Courtland, where he was a machinist. He also worked for a number of years at Noland Co. and Wolverine Tube.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Laura Surles; four daughters, Dr. Sarah Broadnax of Chattanooga and Patricia Surles Watkins, Derenda Lucas and Amanda Surles Menifield, all of Decatur; his father of Toney; five brothers, William Surles of Nashville, Bernard Surles and Eddie Surles, both of Los Angeles, and Richard Surles and Amos Surles, both of Toney; four sisters, Dorothy Davis of Tampa, Edna Baker of Toney, Delilah Dunlap of Palm Dale, Calif., and Jeanette Turner of Huntsville; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Fletcher, Curtis Miller, David Chairs, Leonard Raybon, Readus Linton Jr., Rodney Randall and Johnnie Cross.

Officers of the church and American Legion Post 310 will be honorary pallbearers.

MOULTON -- Jackie Lamar Terry, 48, of Moulton died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. Lawrence Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

Jewell Virtell Thomas

ATHENS -- Jewell Virtell Thomas, 89, of Leoma, Tenn., died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Sunbridge Nursing Home in Leoma, Tenn. Spry Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

Margaret Giles Thrasher

HARTSELLE -- Graveside service for Margaret Giles Thrasher, 75, of Daphne and formerly of Hartselle, will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Hartselle Memory Gardens with Peck Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends Friday night from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Thrasher died Sunday, February 25, 2001, in Daphne. Peck Funeral Home will announce further arrangements.

Charlie O. Benson Jr.
71, civil engineer
Funeral for Charlie O. Benson Jr., 71, of Decatur will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Coomer officiating.

Burial will be at 1 p.m. at Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Scottsboro. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Benson died Thursday, March 1, 2001, at home. He was born Jan. 9, 1930, in Jackson County to Charlie Benson Sr. and Ada Benson. He retired from the Alabama Department of Transportation, where he was a civil engineer. He served in the National Guard. He was the father of the late Patricia Benson.

Survivors include two sons, Steve Benson and Scott Benson, both of Decatur; one daughter, Bobbie Lamon of Decatur; one brother, Truman Benson of Scottsboro; two sisters, Izella Proctor of Scottsboro and Betty Godwin of North Carolina; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Steve Benson, Scott Benson, Tray Tucker, Paul Lamon, Allen Carpenter and Lee McPherson.

Rosie Burden
87, homemaker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Rosie Burden, 87, of Moulton will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Pullen officiating.

Burial will be in Clardy Cemetery in Hillsboro. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Burden died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born Sept. 27, 1913, in Tennessee, to Gains Bankston and Belle Vinson Bankston. She was a homemaker and the widow of Johnnie Burden.

Survivors include seven daughters, Bertha Fagan of Wersdale, Fla., Betty Legg of Moulton, Bonnie Pullen of Hillsboro, Christine Montgomery of Muscle Shoals, Clista Gurley of Phoenix and Diane Vinson of Albany, La.; one brother, C.H. Bankston of Georgia; one sister, Mary Ellen Sparks of Trinity; 27 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.
