Arlie Eston Cloer
82, retired medical assistant
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Arlie Eston Cloer, 82, of Falkville will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Miller officiating.

Burial will include a military graveside service in Union Hill Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Cloer died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born August 31, 1918, in Morgan County to George Washington Cloer and Nettie Woods Cloer. He was a member of Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Disabled American Veterans and a medical assistant at Summerford Nursing Home. He was the widower of Treasy Cloer.

Survivors include two sons, Hugh Cloer of Trussville and Gene Cloer of Birmingham; one daughter, Reba Hughes Orr of Hartselle; five sisters, Jamie Britt of Decatur and Gladys Campbell, Berdie Hudgins, Elizabeth Hudgins and Myrtie Nelson, all of Falkville; and five grandchildren.

Members of Disabled American Veterans will be pallbearers.

Agnes Louise Gibson
84, retired nurse

ATHENS -- Funeral for Agnes Louise Gibson, 84, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Aaron D. Johnson and Joe Teal officiating.

A graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Miss Gibson died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born April 16, 1916, in Columbus, Miss. She was a retired nurse and a member of the First Baptist Church in Athens.

Survivors include one sister, Emma Gibson Beaman of Athens.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Athens.

Johann 'Joe' Gust
74, retired meat cutter

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Johann "Joe" Gust, 74, of Hartselle will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Lewis and the Rev. Ron Reinhardt officiating.

Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.

Mr. Gust died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born April 20, 1926, in Germany to Franz Gust and Gertrude Zacowski Gust. He was a retired meat cutter.

Survivors include his wife, Brigitte Gust; three sons, Dieter Gust of Fond Du Lac, Wis., Norbert Gust of Cudahy, Wis. and John Gust of Athens; one daughter, Heidi Pivonka of Hartselle; one sister, Gertrude Gust of Belgium; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Holder, Aaron Webber, Steve Wilson, Alvah Wayand, Ross Dunhill and Jim Forthman.

Horace Wilson Mitchell
84, retired heavy equipment operator

ATHENS -- Funeral for Horace Wilson Mitchell, 84, of Toledo, Ohio, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Glen Keenon officiating.

Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Mitchell died Friday, March 2, 2001, at Riverside Hospital in Toledo. He was born March 28, 1916, in Lincoln County, Tenn. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and a member of the Bethel Church of Christ in Bethel, Tenn. He was the brother of John Mitchell, Bunyan Mitchell, Jess Lee Mitchell, Ford Mitchell and Deewhit Mitchell. He was the grandfather of Eddie Mitchell.

Survivors include one son, Joe R. Mitchell of Elkmont; three daughters, Diane Humbarger of Toledo, Sandra Scoggins of Inkster, Mich. and Wanda Mitchell of Davie, Fla.; four sisters, Evelyn Brazina of Atlanta, Pearl Reyer of Ardmore, Rosie Mitchell of Birmingham and Merle Brown of Waterloo, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Joey Jackson, Darren Scoggins, Joe Mitchell, Charlie Mitchell, Gordon Mitchell and David Mitchell.

Diana Sue 'Susie' Preston

MOULTON -- Funeral for Diana Sue "Susie" Preston, 53, of Moulton will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jackie Shelton and the Rev. Neil Carter officiating.

Burial will be in Montgomery Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Miss Preston died today, March 5, 2001, in Russellville. She was born Oct. 17, 1947, in Lawrence County to Lewis Preston and Lucy Dean Preston. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include her mother of Moulton; two brothers, Harold Dean Preston and Lewis "Sonny" Preston, both of Trinity; and one sister, Cheryl Harrison of Huntsville.

Flora Mae Beck Bradford
78, homemaker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Flora Mae Beck Bradford, 78, of Hatton will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Old Liberty Congregational Church with the Rev. Larry Crumpton, the Rev. Roger Loosier and the Rev. Gene Waldrop officiating.

Burial will be in Old Liberty Cemetery with Elliott Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bradford died Monday, March 5, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born Aug. 13, 1922, in Lawrence County to John W. Beck and Ollie A. Jackson Beck. She was a homemaker and a member of Moulton Congregational Christian Church. She was the widow of Elee Bradford.

Survivors include three sons, Larry Bradford, Kenny Bradford and Jerry Bradford, all of Hatton; two daughters, Patsy Waldrop and Sherry King, both of Hatton; one brother, Curnel Beck of Hatton; one sister, Ruby Owens of Decatur; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Chester Quinn, Chris Bradford, Eric King, Scotty Liles, Carl Harville and Franklin Beck.

Benjamin Evan Butler
Infant

ATHENS -- Graveside service for infant Benjamin Evan Butler of Jackson was Saturday at Limestone Memorial Gardens with Greg Patrick officiating and Spry Funeral Home directing.

The infant died Thursday, March 1, 2001, the day of his birth, at Springhill Memorial Hospital in Mobile.

Survivors include his parents, Mark and Dana Butler of Jackson; one brother, Jacob Butler of Jackson; his grandparents, James and Jimmie Coggin and Paul and Patricia Butler, all of Athens, and Jim and Jerry Cryer of Cookville, Tenn.

Octavia Gibson
92, homemaker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Octavia Gibson, 92, of Okeechobee, Fla., will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Elliott Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis Sutton officiating.

Burial will be in Old Liberty Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gibson died Saturday, March 3, 2001, in Florida. She was born Aug. 4, 1908, in Franklin County to Gardner Willis and Dora Waldrep Willis. Mrs. Gibson was a homemaker and the widow of Irwin Gibson. She was the mother of Raymond Gibson, Bobby Gibson, Canzada Gibson and Ruby Cole.

Survivors include two sons, James Gibson of Avon Park, Fla., and Hershall Gibson of Okeechobee, Fla.; one daughter, Betty Dowd of Haleyville; 20 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mikey Gibson, Buddy Cole, Ricky Cole, Michael B. Gibson, Michael A. Gibson and Ben Kelly.

Massie Mae Kingston
68, homemaker

Funeral for Massie Mae Kingston, 68, of Belle Mina will be Thursday at noon at Jerusalem Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Patton officiating.

Burial will in Garrett Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be in the church an hour before the service.

Ms. Kingston died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at her home. She was born June 2, 1932, in Limestone County to Dave Kingston and Lucy Gaston Kingston. She was a member of Nazarene Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Caroline Mae Kingston of Belle Mina and Alice Sophie Kingston of Athens; one brother, David Kingston of Belle Mina; two sisters, Mildred Kingston of Tanner and Sarah Long of Belle Mina; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be William Malone; Ronald Noble, Anthony Kingston, David Kingston, Vesta Kingston and Henry Pickett.

Phelton Looney
83, retired plant manager

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Phelton Looney, 83, of Danville will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. L.B. Hall officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Looney died Sunday, March 4, 2001, in Harvest. He was born Feb. 24, 1918, in Lawrence County to Floyd Looney and Edna Ledlow Looney. He was a member of Danville United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Joe Wheeler Electric Membership Corp. Board of Directors. He was a retired plant manager at True Dimensions Inc., and the widower of Velma Sue Looney.

Survivors include one son, Donald Looney of Harvest; one brother, Travis Looney of Falkville; five sisters, Odie Lee Poole of Hartselle, Martha Turrentine of Vinemont, Lorene Holaday and Margie Buttons, both of Danville, and Athlea Dover of Lavergne, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brian Dover, Fred Dutton, Randy Johnson, Lynn Kilpatrick, Tim Looney and Conrad Turrentine.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Madison County.

Diana Sue 'Susie' Preston

William Charles Aday
85, retired farmer
TRINITY -- Graveside service for William Charles Aday, 85, of Hillsboro, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with Kirk Bobo officiating and Parkway Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Aday died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Mountainview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Winchester, Tenn. He was born April 14, 1915, in Lawrence County to William H. Aday and Delia Moody Aday. He retired as a farmer and was a member of the Church of Christ at Piney Grove.

Survivors include his wife, Syble Aday; one son, Charles Aday of Hillsboro; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be L.A. Sparks, A.C. Roden, Robert Smith, Milton Letson and John Jody Letson.
