Thomas Price Johnston
44, minister

CENTRE -- Funeral for the Rev. Thomas Price Johnston, 44, of Centre will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Fairview United Methodist Christian Life Center with the Rev. Bill Gandy, the Rev. Glenn Connor and Steve Clark officiating.

Burial will be in Cherokee Memory Gardens with Perry Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Johnston died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at Baptist Medical Center-Montclair. He was born Dec. 11, 1956, in Morgan County. He graduated from Brewer High School in 1975 and received his associate degree from Wallace State Community College in 1980 and his bachelor of science degree in religion and philosophy from Athens State College in 1983. He received a master of divinity degree from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta in 1987 and a doctor of ministry degree from the Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Ga., in 1994. He served churches in the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church since 1979 and was ordained an elder in that conference in 1989. He was active in the Emmaus community and served as the secretary for the Gadsden District of the Methodist Education Leave Society. He also served as mentor to other pastors in the candidacy program for the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lola Nixon Johnston; one daughter, Marlena Claire Johnston of Centre; his parents, George and Ina Johnston of Somerville; one brother, Clark Johnston of Somerville; two sisters, Anita Wade of Somerville and Denice Bowman of Charlotte, N.C.

Pallbearers will be Lloyd Wade, Mack Sentell, Billy Joe Baker, Jerry Lockridge, Jay Myrick, Jack Bowlin, Jamie Hightower and Jim Davis.

Memorials may be made to Fairview United Methodist Church's building fund or the American Cancer Society.

Audrey Mae Appleton Pitt
95, homemaker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Audrey Mae Appleton Pitt, 95, of Moulton was to be today at 2 p.m. at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Summerford and the Rev. Buddy Brown officiating.

Burial was to be in the adjoining cemetery with Elliott Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Pitt died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born Oct. 22, 1905, in Lawrence County to Elmer Clay Appleton and Cora Craig Appleton. She was a homemaker and a member of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church for more than 70 years. She was an active member and secretary of United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a member of the Historical Commission and wrote several articles in "The Heritage of Lawrence County." Mrs. Pitt wrote about the genealogy of the Appleton family. She was the widow of Paul J. Pitt and the mother of Max Pitt.

Survivors include one son, Gwyn Pitt of Moulton; three brothers, Elmer Clay Appleton Jr. of Moulton, Ray Appleton of Decatur and Robert Appleton of Portland, Ore.; one sister, Annie Sue Wheeler of Erwin, Tenn.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Randy Newman, Chris Logston, James W. Payne, Gordon Jones Jr., Geno Bellino, Jeff Beasley, Gary Garrett and Randy Darnell.

Annie C. Romine
81, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Annie C. Romine, 81, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Warren Glass and Carroll Sutton officiating.

Burial was to be in Valley View Cemetery.

Mrs. Romine died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital East. She was born July 31, 1919, in Limestone County. She was a homemaker and a member of Valley View Church of Christ. She was the widow of F.D. Romine.

Survivors include two sons, Floyd Romine Jr. of Madison and Gary Romine of Athens; one daughter, Shelia McGuire of Athens; four sisters, Irene Sutton of Cottondale, Lillie Carter of Chicago, Dorothy Patterson of Las Vegas, and Pearlie Green e of Rogersville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be the men of Valley View Church of Christ.

Annie M. Boskey
79, homemaker
Graveside service for Annie M. Boskey, 79, of Decatur will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Calvary Memorial Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Eddie Walton officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Boskey died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born May 24, 1921, in Morgan County. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two cousins, Mary Williams and Annie Ruth Owens, both of Decatur.

Tony M. Burson
50, retired U.S. Army

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Tony M Burson, 50, of Hartselle, will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Cemetery, with full military honors. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Burson died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, in Oxford, from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident. He was born May 2, 1950, in Aiken, S.C., to Archie Burson Jr. and Virginia L. Couch Burson. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years as a staff sergeant, and served in Vietnam, in Europe and in Alaska. At the time of his death, he was employed as a nurse with Mariner Health.

Survivors include his mother, of Hartselle; one son, Tony Lee Burson, of South Carolina; three brothers, Archie J. Burson and Gary G. Burson, both of Bloomingdale, Ga., and Bradie L Burson of Nashville; two sisters, Euna M. Lancaster and Carolyn L. Cooper, both of Hartselle; and two grandchildren.

Beatrice Brewer Clark
80, homemaker

SYLVESTER, Ga. -- Funeral for Beatrice Brewer Clark, 80, of National Health Care, Moulton, formerly of Sylvester, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Isabella Baptist Church with the Rev. Al Wilbourn officiating.

Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Banks Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Clark died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Sept. 20, 1920, in Turner County, Ga., to John Wesley Brewer and Savannah Watson Brewer. She lived in Worth County, Ga., most of her life and was a homemaker. She was a member of Isabella Baptist Church and served for many years as a Pink Lady at Worth County Hospital.

Survivors include one son, Thomas Clark of Merritt Island, Fla.; one daughter, Marcy Stadden Sherman of Decatur; two sisters, Lola Brasfield of Alamo, Tenn., and Allie Mae Everrett of Columbus, Ga.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Burch Morgan Crawford
91, retired welder

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Burch Morgan Crawford, 91, of Fountain Inn, S.C., and formerly of Morgan County, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Compton officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery, which is south of Danville, with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Crawford died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, in Fountain Inn. He was born Oct. 6, 1909, in Morgan County to Mark Crawford and Missouri Bell Walker Crawford. He retired as a welder from American Standard.

Survivors include two daughters, Minneta Davis of Simpsonville, S.C., and Rita Crawford of Cloverdale, Ind.; one brother, Burl Crawford of Cullman; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Eural L. 'Spook' Garrett
71, construction worker

Funeral for Eural L. "Spook" Garrett, 71, of Decatur will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Stephen Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Hereford officiating.

Burial will be in Sterrs Cemetery with Sharpley Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 at the funeral home. The body will be in the church one hour before the service Saturday.

Mr. Garrett died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center. He was born Jan. 27, 1930, in Decatur to Tom Garrett and Mattie Collier Garrett. He was a 1949 graduate of Decatur Negro High School. He served in the Army from 1950 to 1952 and fought in the Korean War. He was a member of Waymon Chapel A.M.E. Church. He was a construction worker for former Decatur City Councilman Collis Stevenson for many years. He was the father of the late Eural L. Garrett Jr. and the late Euliane Garrett.

Survivors include his wife, Alberta Garrett; one son, Rodney Garrett of Decatur; six daughters, Joshua Garrett, Sherrie Brown, Teresa Bolden and Shelia Garrett, all of Decatur, Patricia Williams of Huntsville and Annie Woods of Clinton, Miss.

Army members will be pallbearers.

Charles Oliver Johnson
70, retired insurance agent

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Charles Oliver Johnson, 70, of Athens will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Limestone Memorial Gardens with the Rev. James Long officiating and Limestone Chapel Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends Saturday from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnson died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at his home. He was born Aug. 27, 1930, in Athens to Leland Morgan Johnson and Evie Landers Johnson. He retired from the Navy after 20 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired as an agent from Mutual Savings Life Insurance Company.

Survivors include six sons, Edward Ray Johnson of Hawaii, Charles Wayne Johnson, Gregory Michael Johnson, William Corley Johnson and Adam Blankenship, all of Athens, and Timothy William Johnson of McLean, Va.; three daughters, Margaret Ellen Perry of Elkmont, and Sharon Leigh Naves and Karen Elaine Johnson, both of Athens; one stepson, Thomas Dewayne Blankenship of Elkmont; two stepdaughters, Tina Suzette Tucker and Jennifer Gail Ivey, both of Athens; five brothers, Robert Allen Johnson and Don Johnson, both of Athens, Buck Johnson of Decatur, Doug Johnson of Elkhart, Ind., and Jim Johnson of Rogersville; three sisters, Eunice Richardson and Jewell Smith, both of Athens, and Jean Walters of Huntsville; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jason Chambers, Adam Reece, Kim Sanders, Harry Richardson, John Robert Johnson and Edward Ray Johnson II.

Aileen Hardiman Martin
79, Redstone Arsenal retiree

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Aileen Hardiman Martin, 79, of Huntsville, was to be today at 11 a.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Persons and the Rev. Mark Johnson officiating.

Burial was to be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Martin died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Feb. 6, 1922, in Limestone County. She was a longtime employee at Redstone Arsenal and a member of Parker Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Richard A. Martin; her son, Randal G. Martin of Madison; one daughter, Judy Martin Toles of Madison; one grandson; and three granddaughters.

Fred Peeples

ATHENS -- Funeral for Fred Peeples, 74, of Green brier will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at People's Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Peeples officiating.

Burial will be in Ragland Cemetery.

Mr. Peeples died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at a local hospital. He was born Nov. 16, 1926, in Limestone County.

John P. 'Pick' Plemons
88, retired insurance agent

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- Memorial service for John P. "Pick" Plemons, 88, of Winter Haven will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ with the Rev. John Alford officiating. Local arrangements are being handled by Steele's Family Funeral Services.

Mr. Plemons died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at his home. He was born Nov. 27, 1912, in Falkville to Hugh Plemons and Leila Rowe Plemons. He attended Auburn University and was a Navy veteran. He served as a Navy recruiter in Louisville, Ky., before joining Prudential Life Insurance Co., where he retired after 25 years. He was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, where he served as deacon, elder and taught Sunday school. He was the father of the late Hugh E. Plemons Sr.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty G. Plemons; one son, John G. Plemons of Winter Haven; two daughters, Nancy P. Leonard of Haines City, Fla., and Margaret Gehlsen of Winter Haven; one brother, Clarke Plemons of Waco, Texas; one sister, Mary Alice Clower of Atlanta; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church Disciples of Christ Building Fund, 7th Street Southwest, Winter Haven, FL 33880.

David Sales

DETROIT -- Funeral for David Sales, 67, of Detroit, Mich., will be Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at James H. Cole Funeral Home Northwest Chapel.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Sales died Friday, March 9, 2001, at his home. He was born Feb. 25, 1934, in Morgan County to William Sales and Naomi Sales. He was a retired supervisor with Arco Alloy Corp. in Detroit.

Survivors include his mother, Naomi Sales of Decatur; three brothers, Joe Sales of Montgomery and Charles Sales and Marvin Sales, both of Decatur; four sisters, Dorothy Melvin of Chattanooga, Tenn., Mary Phillips and Clara Smith, both of Decatur, and Linda Ellison of Dallas.
