Charles 'Beaver' Swoope
56, Wolverine Tube maintenance

Funeral for Charles "Beaver" Swoope, 56, of Decatur will be Saturday at noon at Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church in Hillsboro with the Rev. Damien Johnson officiating.

Burial will be in Foster -Davis Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service Saturday.

Mr. Swoope died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Nov. 19, 1944, in Lawrence County to Joseph Swoope Sr. and Pauline Whitfield Swoope. He was a member of Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church. He worked for Wolverine Tube in Decatur for many years and was also a chef at Sonny's Barbecue in Hillsboro.

Survivors include his mother of Hillboro; one brother, Joseph Swoope Jr. of Hillsboro; four sisters, Edna Swoope, Julie Spencer and Ruth Yarbrough, all of Cleveland, Ohio, and Vivian Boyd of Hillsboro.

Pallbearers will be Roderick Swoope, Mandel Swoope, Earnest Fuqua Jr., James Wiggins, Columbus Gray and Carlton Adkins.

Joe Jackson Tingley

ATHENS -- Funeral for Joe Jackson Tingley, 68, of Athens will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Jackson died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. Limestone Chapel Funeral Home will announce further arrangements.

Nell Cline
63, homemaker

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Nell Cline, 63, of Belle Mina will be today at 2 p.m. at New Garden Cemetery with Spry Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends today from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cline died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at her home. She was born May 1, 1937, in Morgan County to Joe Jackson and Vernie Mae Jackson. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include three sons, Billy Gene Cline of Hartselle, and Ricky Cline and Phillip Cline, both of Belle Mina; one daughter, Wanda Cline of Athens; her mother, Vernie Jones of Decatur; two brothers, Jessie Melvin Jackson and Pete Jones, both of Decatur; three sisters, Gloria Sutton and Tina Young, both of Decatur, and Edna Troupe of Oklahoma; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Emma Johnson

ATHENS -- Funeral for Emma Johnson, 40, of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Peoples Funeral Home with the Rev. Willie James Mangruem officiating.

Burial will be in Quarter Lot Cemetery.

Ms. Johnson died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital.

She is survived by one son, Willie Johnson of Athens; two daughters, Shaquetta Johnson and Tina Johnson, both of Athens; her mother, Edna Johnson of Athens; two brothers, Robert Johnson and David Johnson, both of Athens; eight sisters, Mary Brazelton, Betty Thatch, Danella Malone, Idella Johnson, Edna Thompson, Linda Malone, Fannie Thatch and Casandra Crutcher, all of Athens; and three grandchildren.

Maverine Levene Key

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Maverine Levene Key, 65, of Danville will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger White and the Rev. Ron Day officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery on Alabama 157 south of Massey.

Mrs. Key died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at her home. She was born July 19, 1935, in Morgan County, to Duff Luther Ball and Sarah Jane Bolan Ball. She was a member of Harmony Grove Holiness Church for 40 years and was a packer at Dixie Freezer in Decatur.

Survivors include her husband, James J. Key; one son, James Ronald Key of Danville; one daughter, Teresa Levene Brown of Danville; one sister, Evelyn Wilhite of Hartselle; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Hudgins, Terry Hudgins, Stephen Swader, Tim Swader, Lydel Wilbanks and Ricky Wilbanks.

Frank E. Thompson
75, master chef

Funeral for Frank E. Thompson, 75, of Decatur will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Edward Owens officiating.

Burial will be Calvary Memorial Gardens with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Thompson died Friday, March 16, 2001, at South Morgan Health Care Center. He was born March 7, 1926, in Morgan County to Minor Thompson and Lela Lyle Thompson. A World War II veteran, he was a master chef and worked at Monsanto, Holiday Inn, Decatur Country Club, The Lions Hotel and the Courtyard by Marriott restaurant. He was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Leila Sutherlin Thompson; two sons, Gary Thompson and Rodney Clemons, both of Decatur; four daughters, Michelle Thompson and Sonya Clemons, both of Decatur, Deborah Thompson of Atlanta and Carolyn Thompson of Huntsville; one brother, George Swoopes of Decatur; one sister, Anna Pearl Thompson of Columbus, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Joe Jackson Tingley
68, NASA retiree

ATHENS -- Funeral for Joe Jackson Tingley, 68, of Athens will be today at 1:30 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny McMullins officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery in Athens.

Mr. Tingley died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Jan. 16, 1933, in Athens to Roger and Dorothy Tingley. He was a member of First Union Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army and was retired from the National Aeronautical and Space Administration.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise Tingley; one daughter, Teresa Boozer of Athens; his mother of Athens; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one step-great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be David Mitchell, Seal Coleman, Buddy Lock, Charles Richardson, Shelby Wilson and Junior Miller.

Ben Troupe Sr.
85, retired farmer

ATHENS -- Funeral for Ben Troupe Sr., 85, of Athens will be Monday at 1 p.m. at New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Tanner with the Rev. Larry Lockett Sr. officiating.

Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery with Peoples Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Troupe died Friday, March 16, 2001, at his home. He was born Oct. 23, 1915, in Limestone County to Wiley Troupe and Mahalia Peoples. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Troupe; four sons, L.C. Troupe of Decatur and Ben Troupe Jr., Jimmy Troupe and Berthold Troupe, all of Athens; five daughters, Pearline Robinson, Annie Thornton, Shirley Stringer and Agnes Comeity, all of Dayton, Ohio, and Sandra Campbell of Athens.

Deacons of New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church will be pallbearers.

Elva Mary Woolsey
77, homemaker

Elva Mary Woolsey, 77, of Decatur died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home.

She was born Nov. 15, 1923, in Knoxville. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Don Woolsey; one son, Thomas Ray Woolsey of Gulf Shores; two daughters, Kathy Woolsey of Decatur and Teresa Johnson of Arizona; one brother, Bill Weaver of St. Louis; three sisters, Ruth Hayes of Texas, Mable Ezell of Indiana and a sister in Colorado; and four grandchildren.

Edward F. 'Ed' Campbell
80, construction retiree
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Edward F. "Ed" Campbell, 80, of Danville will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Brad Rich officiating.

Burial will be in Hatchett Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Campbell died Friday, March 16, 2001, at his home. He was born Feb. 18, 1921, in Limestone County to John Alford Campbell and Frances Mary Leanard Campbell. He was retired from Brown & Root Construction Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a military police sergeant from 1942 to 1947.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Kesler Campbell; two sons, James Edward Campbell of Hartselle and Carl Richard Campbell of Danville; three daughters, Lynda Sue Toone of Savannah, Ga., Betty Faye Hutzler of Hartselle and Donna Jean Harris of Elkmont; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Sullins, Daniel Sullins, Keith Elrod, Brandon Elrod, Dan Harris and Joseph Baker.

Kenneth Eugene Ergle
46, machinist

HALEYVILLE -- Funeral for Kenneth Eugene Ergle, 46, of Decatur will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Hancock and the Rev. Clice Rogers officiating.

Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery with Pinkard Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Ergle died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Dec. 24, 1954, in Double Springs to Melvin and Virginia Ergle. He served in the U.S. Air Force and National Guard. He was a machinist for Ropak and a member of Pleasant Hill No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Becky Slager Ergle; one son, Joshua Ergle of Decatur; one daughter, Cheryl Ergle of Decatur; his parents of Haleyville; and one sister, Debra Breed of Haleyville.

Witty Garth Gish
67, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Witty Garth Gish, 67, of Athens will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Timothy Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jerrilee Lewallen officiating.

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the home of Dr. Loyd and Bebe Shaw, 201 Beaty St. in Athens.

Mrs. Gish died Friday, March 16, 2001, at her home. She was born Dec. 13, 1933, in Limestone County to Winston Stuart Garth and Ethel Mae Hightower Garth. She graduated from Gulf Park Academy in Gulfport, Miss., and attended Randolph Macon Womens College, Vanderbilt University and Athens State College. She was the first president of the Athena League and was American Red Cross volunteer for the Limestone County chapter. She was a member of St. Timothy Episcopal Church and served on the altar guild.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Charles Gish Sr.; one son, Robert Charles Gish Jr. of Guntersville; two daughters, Paula Gish Babcock of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., and Bebe Gish Shaw of Athens; one sister, Frances Garth Wallace of Athens; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Garth Lovvorn, Newt Lovvorn, Richard Garth, Johnny Garth, Mike Grisham and Bill Grisham.

Memorials may be made to St. Timothy Episcopal Church, 207 E. Washington St., Athens, AL 35611.

James Clifton 'Pa Jack' Jackson
82, World War II veteran

TRINITY -- Funeral for James Clifton "Pa Jack" Jackson, 82, of Moulton will be today at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Jones and the Rev. Troy Smith officiating.

Burial will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Jackson died Friday, March 16, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born Dec. 24, 1918, in Lawrence County to Thomas Jackson and Lela Rutherford Jackson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a retired farmer and retired from Redstone Arsenal, where he worked in civil service for 30 years. He was the brother of the late Louis Jackson.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Mattie Pearson Jackson; two sons, James Larry Jackson and Ricky Jackson, both of Moulton; four daughters, Faye Ward of Hartselle, Sharon Foote and Patsy Hill, both of Moulton, Judy Parker of Pulaski, Tenn.; two brothers, Billy Jackson and Bobby Jackson, both of Moulton; two sisters, Bradley Crabtree of Decatur and Josephine Ligon of Moulton; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Foote, Jamie Foote, Keith Hill, Wayne Ward, Mike Parker and Micky Parker.
