Funeral for Frankie Joe "Squirrel" Burkard, 55, of Decatur will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Craig Carlisle officiating.

Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Burkard died Monday, March 26, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center. He was born Nov. 29, 1945, in Cullman, Carl J. Burkard and Miriam Burkard. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a retired maintenance worker.

Survivors include two daughters, Rachel Burkard of Kailua, Hawaii, and Carla Burkard Griffith of Hartselle; his mother of Decatur; one brother, Vernon Brewer of Nashville; nine sisters, Carmen Burkard Boles of Union Grove, Brenda Burkard Sandwell of Athens, Sonia Burkard Kitchens of Laceys Spring, Cheryl Brewer Heatherly and Keely Denning, both of Salina, Kan., Kayci Jo Brewer of Arlington, Texas, and Jesslyn Brewer, Clara J. Brewer and Jennifer Lynn Brewer, all of Bebee, Ark.; and one grandson.

Lou Cantberry
100, homemaker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Lou Cantberry, 100, of Courtland, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Buddy Simmons, the Rev. Scotty Letson and the Rev. Scotty McCay officiating.

Burial will be in Courtland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cantberry died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born June 9, 1900, in Lawrence County. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one daughter; Evelyn Terry of Courtland; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Travis Williams, Joe Loosier, Cody Hill, Corey Reed, Scotty McCay and Michael Morris.

Frances Jewel McCurry
62, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Frances Jewel McCurry, 62, of Athens will be Friday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Johnson and the Rev. Doug McCurry officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. McCurry died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at her home. She was born Dec. 25, 1938, in Limestone County to William Elvin King and Frances Chambers King. She was a homemaker and a member of Berea Baptist Church. She also attended Open Door Baptist Church of Elkmont.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas W. McCurry; two daughters, Gail Clem of Elkmont and Diane Johnson of Decatur; one brother, Calvin King of Elkmont; three sisters, Ruby Winsett of Shelbyville, Tenn., Carrie Smith of Ardmore and Betty McMahan of Athens; three grandchildren; and one foster grandson.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Clem, David Clem, Glenn DeFoe, Ricky McMahan, Billy Smith and Brent Davis.

Dewey McQuaig
66, security officer

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Dewey McQuaig, 66, of Hartselle will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Dugger officiating.

Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. McQuaig died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born Nov. 29, 1934, in South Carolina to Dewey H. McQuaig and Nettie W. Ward McQuaig. He was retired from the United States Navy and worked as a security officer. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie McQuaig; three stepsons, Ray Parker of Decatur, Daniel Parker of Hartselle, and Bruce Parker of Pleasant Hill N.C.; one stepdaughter, Vera Stussy of Soldiers Grove, Wis.; his mother of Sumter, S.C.; one brother, Al McQuaig of Summerville, S.C.; one sister, Lucille Godfrey of Sumter; eight step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Edward Robinson, Andy Robinson, Lloyd Robinson, Johnny Robinson, Bobby Denson, Randy Scott and Roger Scott.

Ozell Morrow
88, housekeeper

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Ozell Morrow, 88, of Hartselle will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Hood officiating.

Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ozell died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born July 15, 1912, in Morgan County to Robert Wesley Morrow and Minnie Palmer Morrow. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. She was the widow of Edmond Morrow and mother of the late Joe V. Morrow. She was a self-employed housekeeper.

Survivors include one brother, Howard Morrow, of Valhermoso Springs; four sisters, Estele Beutz of Sylacauga, Novel Collier of Harpersville, Norma Cook of Huntsville, and Lucile Oakes of Lacey's Spring; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Nephews and great-grandsons will be pallbearers.

Jack Brooks Neal
74, Ford Motor Co. retiree

TUSCUMBIA -- Funeral for Jack Brooks Neal, 74, of Town Creek, was to be today at 2 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Moore officiating.

Burial was to be in Elmwood Cemetery in Town Creek.

Mr. Neal died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at his home. He was born April 29, 1926, in Lauderdale County. He was retired from Ford Motor Company and was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Veteran of Foreign Wars and the First Baptist Church of Town Creek.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Y. Neal of Town Creek; two daughters, Donna Williams of Lexington and Merri Cox of Town Creek; one brother, Dan Neal of Detroit, Mich.; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Johnson, Mikie Kirby, Rocky O'Dell, Danny Wayne Hughes, Kevin Clayton and David Brush.

Hoyt Roland Smith
74, retired farmer

MOULTON -- Funeral for Hoyt Roland Smith, 74, of Moulton will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. George Sparks and the Rev. Donnie Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Graham Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born March 14, 1927, in Lawrence County to Edward Smith and Ella Smith. He retired as a self-employed farmer.

Survivors include two sons, Ray Smith and Mike Smith, both of Moulton; eight brothers, Herley Smith of Trinity, A.V. Knight of Hillsboro, Glen Benny Smith and Thurman Smith, both of Auburn, Tommy Smith, Donnie Smith and Cooper Smith, all of Danville, and Dair Smith of Tennessee; five sisters, Mattie Dee Parker and Sue Sherrill, both of Decatur, Lennis Letson of Hillsboro, Beatrice Terry of Trinity and Sandra Jo Morgan of Danville; and six grandchildren.

Horace Allen Stewart
67, carpenter

Graveside service for Horace Allen Stewart, 67, of Decatur was to be today at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Charles Littrell officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Stewart died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Oct. 19, 1933, in Limestone County to Sidney Stewart and Martha Brooks Stewart. He was a self-employed carpenter. He was the brother of the late Eugene Stewart.

Survivors include two sons, Horace A. Stewart Jr. of Nashville and Todd Chandler Stewart of Pensacola, Fla.; one daughter, Joan Dempsey of Decatur; one brother, Ernest Stewart of Somerville; three sisters, Helen Wooten and Jane Lambert, both of Rome, Ga., and Annette Carter of Jasper; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Bradley 'Alan' Ward
40, heavy equipment operator

Funeral for Bradley "Alan" Ward, 40, of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Bullard officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Ward died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at his home. He was born Aug. 2, 1960, in Hartselle to James and Bobbie Ward. He was a heavy equipment operator for Green well Backhoe Service.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Grimes Ward; one son, Zack Ward of Decatur; one daughter, Alane Ward of Decatur; his parents of Decatur; and two brothers, Andy Ward of Decatur and Arlon Ward of Cartersville, Ga.

Pallbearers will be Ross Williams, Alan Shelton, Mike Hargett, Jeff Johnson and Lee Allen.

Bessie Christine Bailey
86, retired Cole's Laundry employee
ATHENS -- Funeral for Bessie Christian Bailey, 86, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Nicky Pressnell and Glen A. Keenon officiating.

Burial was to be in Athens City Cemetery.

Miss. Bailey died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Aug. 12, 1914, in Limestone County. She was retired from Cole's Laundry and a member of Ephesus Church of Christ.

Survivors include three sisters, Elizabeth Irene Wales, Mildred Rebecca Bailey and Eunice Jean Pressnell, all of Athens.

Pallbearers were to be Roy C. Hargrove Jr., David Bailey, Cliff Smith, Tommy Beasley, LaRon Pressnell and Rodney Smith.

James Eddie Eason
82, retired NASA mail carrier

CULLMAN -- Funeral for James Eddie Eason, 82, of Joppa was to be today at 2 p.m. at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church with the Rev. Morris Nunnelley officiating and Moss Service Funeral Home directing. The body was to be at the church one hour before service.

Burial was to be in Mt. Hermon Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Eason died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born April 30, 1918, in Alabama to Edd and Rilla Jones Eason. He was a retired NASA mail carrier and a U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors include one son, Ken Eason of Joppa; three daughters, Melba Jo Armstrong of Hartselle, Janice Tucker of Cullman, Sherry Kilgo of Fairview; one brother, R.J. Eason of Holly Pond; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Nathan Kilgo, Jason Armstrong, Daniel Kilgo, Patrick Eason, Joshua Eason and James Hoyt Tipton.

Neal Ellenburg
70, retired office manager

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Neal Ellenburg, 70, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. J.L. Hopper officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Ellenburg died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Nov. 25, 1930, in Limestone County to Frank Thomas Ellenburg and Nina Lee Mooney Ellenburg. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in the Korean War. He retired from Bowman Transportation as office manager.

Survivors include his wife, Wilda Ellenburg of Hartselle; two sons, Roger Ellenburg and Jeff Ellenburg, both of Hartselle; one daughter, Beverly Harville of Hartselle; one brother, Alvin Ellenburg of Tampa, Fla.; three sisters, Irene Adams and Christene Hill, both of Hartselle, and Ann Bowman of Moreno Valley, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jimmie Leeth, Tommy Self, Jeremy Reynolds, Danny Helms, Geoff Haney, Buddy Hill and Buddy Johnson.
