ATHENS -- Funeral for Norma Jean Shelton Whitman, 68, of Madison will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Guay officiating.

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service.

Mrs. Whitman died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at her home. She was born Aug. 30, 1932, in Nashville to William Spivey Shelton and Mable Marie Gary Shelton. She was a technician who retired from Chrysler Corporation after 20 years of service. She was a member of Restoration Four Square Gospel Church in Madison.

Survivors include one son, Carmen Cacioppo of Madison; two daughters, Tina Marie DiMonte of Birmingham and Rita Ann Thornberry of Chickamauga, Ga.; two sisters, Patricia Ann Martin of Athens and Shirley Marie Wenzel of Yucca Valley, Calif.

James Marcus Alvis
52, brickmason
TRINITY -- Funeral for James Marcus Alvis, 52, of Moulton will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Todd Evans officiating.

Mr. Alvis died Monday, April 16, 2001, at his home. He was born July 30, 1948, in Lawrence County to Milton Kilgoar Alvis and Hazelle Marie Alvis. He was a Baptist, a brickmason and member of Allied Craftworkers Local No. 1.

Survivors include his wife, Victoria Alvis; one son, James Randall Alvis of Rock Hill, S.C.; three daughters, Trina Hunter and Tammy Alvis, both of Rock Hill, and Kimberly Alvis of Tampa, Fla.; his mother of Moulton; two stepsons, David Chitwood of Chandler, N.C., and James Chitwood of Newberry, S.C.; one stepdaughter, Kelly Chitwood of Newberry; one brother, John R. Alvis of Smithfield, Va.; four sisters, Mary Kathrine Johnston, Joyce Lee Williams and Linda Kaye Morris, all of Little Rock, Ark., and Janie Miller of Trinity; six grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

Robert Franklin Harris
55, maintenance worker, National Guard

ATHENS -- Funeral with military honors for Robert Franklin Harris, 55, of Athens will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Ricky Craft officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Harris died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Sept. 25, 1945, in Blount County. He was a member and employee of the Alabama National Guard stationed in Athens and a maintenance worker for North Alabama Regional Hospital. He was a Vietnam Army veteran and a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Oma W. Harris; one son, Anthony Harris of Holly Pond; one daughter, Elesha Hill of Blountsville; two stepsons, Johnny Morell and David Wales, both of Athens; two stepdaughters, Lisa Morell and Diane Anton, both of Athens; two brothers, George Harris of Hulco and Alfred Lee Harris of Blountsville; one sister, Bertie Larkin of Blountsville; and six grandchildren.

Morris Kinser
71, NASA retiree

Funeral for Morris Kinser, 71, of Decatur will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Wright officiating.

Graveside memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Leitchfield, Ky. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Kinser died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at his home. He was born April 23, 1929, in Leitchfield to George Kinser and Alice Oller Kinser. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from NASA after 30 years. He moved from Owensboro, Ky., with NASA. He was the widower of Clay Kinsner.

Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Kinser of Atlanta and Tracy Lloyd of Danville; and one sister, Mildred White of Lexington, Ky.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Robert Gibson McNelly
78, broker

Memorial service for Robert Gibson McNelly, 78, of Decatur will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Rollins officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. McNelly died Monday, April 16, 2001, at his home. He was born April 14, 1923, in Polk County, Iowa, to Robert J. McNelly and Leta Gibson McNelly. He was a Decatur businessman and active in civic clubs in the 1950s and 1960s. He was chairman of the Decatur Chamber of Commerce Industrial Committee when Chemstrand, now Solutia, located here. He retired as a real estate broker in San Diego. He spent much of his professional career as a certified life underwriter for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co.

He was a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, attaining the rank of captain. A member of a B-29 squadron, he was among the pilots equipped and trained to drop the atomic bomb on Japan. His unit was assigned to Guam when the war ended.

He played baseball for Iowa State University and later played semi-professional baseball. In 1947, he brought semi-professional baseball to Decatur. He was an avid golfer and member of Decatur Country Club, making a hole in one and shooting his age at 76. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sara Phillips McNelly; one son, Robert Joseph McNelly of Northport; one daughter, Martha McNelly Blair of San Diego; two stepdaughters, Sherry Johnson of Atlanta and Jane Johnson of Decatur; and four grandchildren.

Culis Sanders NeSmith
85, retired merchant

TRINITY -- Funeral for Culis Sanders NeSmith, 85, of Trinity was to be today at 1 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Agee and Dwight NeSmith officiating.

Burial was to be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens.

Mr. NeSmith died Monday, April 16, 2001, at his home. He was born April 14, 1916, in Lawrence County to William Tommy NeSmith and Frances Hampton NeSmith. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Midway, where he was in the choir until he was disabled and the men's senior adult Sunday school class. He was a retired merchant.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Velma Shelton NeSmith; one daughter, Jean NeSmith Miller of Trinity; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Darryl NeSmith, Shawn Miller, Tanner Owens, Mark NeSmith, James Cole and Ben Shelton.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's research.

Lucy Mae McCombs Robbins
81, Sunday school teacher

Funeral for Lucy Mae McCombs Robbins, 81, of Decatur will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip Sessions and the Rev. Windell Shirley officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Robbins died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Nov. 5, 1919, in Bradford to Walter Parham McCombs and Eva Mae Self McCombs. She moved from Birmingham to Decatur in February 1931 and married Grady Robbins on Nov. 9, 1935. She was the last charter member of Decatur First Church of the Nazarene, which was organized in 1945. A former resident of Presbyterian Towers, she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the former Austinville School Parent-Teacher Association. She was the great-grandmother of the late Matthew Clark Johnson.

Survivors include two daughters, Melba Clark and Patricia Ann Stout, both of Decatur; three sisters, Margaret Thacker and Marie Lawson, both of Birmingham, and Bonnie Posey of Alabaster; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Michael E. Clark, Mark Clark, Robbie Stout, Andral Johnson, Sean Carr, Ralph Evans, the Rev. Red Clark and Joe Kelley.

Elizabeth C. Rose
96, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Elizabeth C. Rose, 96, of Athens was to be today at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Bill Irby officiating.

Graveside service was to be at 1 p.m. at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens in Florence.

Mrs. Rose died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Limestone Health Facility. She was born Feb. 22, 1905, in Limestone County. She was a homemaker and a member of Hobbs Street Church of Christ. She was the widow of James J. Rose and the mother of the late William Robert Warren and Jackie Warren.

Survivors include one son, James "Buster" Warren of Athens; two brothers, H.C. Cox of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Billy Joe Cox of Rogersville; two sisters, Willie Don Mitchell of Athens and Dixie Kelley of Rogersville; two grandsons; and two great-grandsons.

Pallbearers were to be Jamie Warren, Bryan Warren, Jerry Bedingfield, Larry Bedingfield, Grady Blakely and Wayne Brackeen.

Memorials may be made to Athens-Limestone Kidney Association or Camp Seale Harris.

James Hugh Waldrep
67, retired mechanic

CULLMAN -- Funeral for James Hugh Waldrep, 67, of Hartselle was to be today at 2 p.m. at Moss Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Lovelace officiating.

Burial was to be in Livingston Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Waldrep died Monday, April 16, 2001, at his home. He was born July 9, 1933, in Morgan County to Millard Waldrep and Rosalee Bigbee Waldrep. He was a retired mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Joanna Jacqulin Burrow Waldrep; one son, Phillip D. Waldrep of Hartselle; three brothers, Alvin Waldrep of Hayden, Lawton Waldrep of Crane Hill and Talmadge Waldrep of Roseville, Mich.; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Phillip D. Waldrep, Scott Hope, Daryl Calvert, Robert Waldrep, Mike Waldrep and Ellis Goodwin.

Henry James Brune Jr.
93, retired butcher

ATHENS -- Henry James Brune Jr., 93, of Huntsville died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at his home. He was born Oct. 31, 1907, in St. Louis, Mo., to Henry James Brune Sr. and Eliza Gertrude Schuessler Brune.

Mr. Brune owned and operated Brune's Market, where he was also a butcher. He retired in 1972 and moved to Huntsville in 1998 to live with his grandson.

Survivors include one son, Lester Brune of Sarasota, Fla.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Huntsville, 2225 Drake Ave., Huntsville, AL 35805.

Horace Love

Graveside service for Horace Love, 67, of Decatur was to be today, April 12, at noon at Hartselle Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Nick White officiating and Sharpley Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Love died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Oct. 30, 1933, in Lacey's Spring.

Survivors include three brothers, Charles Love, Randy Love and Tyrone Love, all of Hartselle.

Family and friends will be pallbearers.

Fred Widner
73, retired carpenter

KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- Funeral for Fred Widner, 73, of Kingsport, was to be today at 11 a.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe W. Byrd officiating.

Burial was to be in East Lawn Memorial Park with Hammond Post No. 3 of the American Legion performing a graveside service.

Mr. Widner died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport. He was born on June 29, 1926, in Hartselle to Olllie Widner and Lena Carter Widner. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a retired carpenter and concrete finisher. He was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church. He was the father of the late Jerry Glenn Widner and John Widner and the stepfather of the late Ritchie Lynn Blevins.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Crawford Widner; four sons, Keith Widner of Cullman, Tony Widner of Lincoln Park, Mich., Ricky Widner of Somerville and Ronnie Widner of Priceville; two daughters, Brenda Garcia of Somerville and Sandra McIntyre of Trenton, Mich.; one brother, Ollie Widner Jr. of Falkville; one sister, Christine Widner of Orange Park, Fla.; three stepsons, Floyd Blevins of Benson, N.C., Donald Blevins of Kingsport, Tenn., and Wendell Blevins of Los Angeles; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
