Verbon Eugene Shelton

Funeral for Verbon Eugene Shelton, 67, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Coomer officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Shelton died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Oct. 25, 1933, in Lawrence County to Jerry Shelton and Effie Tucker Shelton. He was a member of Austinville Church of God, a former employee of THE DECATUR DAILY advertising department and the Decatur Board of Education, and former manager of Eckerd and Big B drugstores.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette R. Shelton; one son, Kenny Shelton of Decatur; one daughter, Judy Shelton Barbee of Decatur; one sister, Zettie Mae Shelton of Decatur; two half brothers, Jerry Burt Shelton and Richard Shelton, both of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Edsel Hardin, Melvin Griffin, Brandon Barbee, Hollis Hinkle, Gaylon Eubanks and Gerald Holaway.

Mamie Estelle Flowers

HARTSELLE -- Graveside service for Mamie Estelle Flowers of Hartselle will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Hartselle Memory Gardens with the Rev. Joey Coots officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Flowers died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born in the Lebanon community of Falkville to William Thomas Tucker and Mary Ellen Brewton Tucker.

She was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church. She was the widow of Troy T. Flowers and the mother of the late Thomas "Tommy" Flowers.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Flowers of Hartselle and Jean Sivley Burgkart of Decatur; one sister, Azelea Anders of Massey; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Flowers, Bradley Flowers, Jeremy Sapp, Beau Sapp, Randy Glen Flowers Jr. and David Paul Sivley.

Memorials may be made to the building fund of Hopewell Baptist Church of Danville.

Mable Inez Stephens Burchell
72, homemaker
TRINITY -- Funeral for Mable Inez Stephens Burchell, 72, of Moulton, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with Marvin Gillespie officiating.

Burial will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Burchell died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born April 17, 1929, in Blount County to Arthur Stephens and Margaret Stephens. She was a homemaker and the widow of Travis J. Burchell.

Survivors include three sons, Roger Dale Burchell Sr. and Wendell Joe Burchell, both of Moulton, and James G. Burchell of Somerville; two daughters, Brenda Jones of Valparaiso, Ind., and Shirley Sheaks of Conyers, Ga.; one brother, Howard Stephens of Blountsville; two sisters, Lorene Barber and Willene Gilliland, both of Talledega; one half-brother, Lynn Bryson of Jacksonville, Miss.; two half-sisters, Laverne Hayes of Remlap and Carol Wood of Blountsville; two stepbrothers, Burl Bryson and Marion Bryson, both of Blountsville; and one step-sister, Vasper Cain of Blountsville; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three step grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Wendell Burchell, Christopher Burchell, Steven Sheaks, Teddy Jones, Jeremy Dotson, Ron Alcorn and Robert Zenko.

Edwin Miller Cornell
59, 3M purchasing agent

Memorial service for Edwin Miller Cornell, 59, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Richmond Webster officiating.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m. in the church library.

Mr. Cornell died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at his home. He was born Aug. 16, 1941, in Camden, S.C., to Bloomfield Miller Cornell and Mary Murphey Cornell. He was a purchasing agent with 3M and a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Anne Rebman Cornell; his mother of Decatur; and one brother, William Paterson "Pat" Cornell of Birmingham.

Memorials may be made to the Decatur Animal Shelter or a favorite charity.

Tammy Barlow Hasting
34, teacher

ATHENS -- Funeral for Tammy Barlow Hasting, 34, of Athens, will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Buck Chumbley and Don Osborne officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hasting died Saturday, April 21, 2001, in Limestone County. She was born Oct. 19, 1966, in Athens. She was a former teacher at West Limestone High School. She currently taught at Sparkman High School in Madison County. She was a member of Westview Church of Christ in Athens.

Survivors include her husband, Douglas Hasting; two sons, Nicholas Barlow Looney of Athens and Grayson Noel Hasting of Athens; her parents, Gerald and Dimple Barlow of Elkmont; two brothers, Brian Barlow of Madison and Chris Barlow of Elkmont; and her grandmother, Antate Evans.

Pallbearers will be Martin Bailey, Jeff Pugh, Aubrey Privett, Buddy Bates, Jeff Powers and Eric Smith.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

J.C. 'Buddy' Hill

WILTON, Wis. -- Funeral for J.C. "Buddy" Hill, 71, of Wilton, Wis., formerly of Courtland, will be Wednesday at Smith-Nelson Funeral Home in Wilton.

Burial will be in Sparta, Wis.

Mr. Hill died Saturday, April 21, 2001, in Wisconsin. He was born May 16, 1929, in Courtland to Leon A. Hill and Elsie Hill. He was retired. He was the brother of the late Judy Webb and Kathryn Tippett.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Hill; four daughters, Wanda Yeaman of Moulton, Sherry Baker of Romeoville, Ill.; Robbie Garrison of Falkville and Jessica Pollack of Sparta, Wis.; two stepsons; three stepdaughters; one brother, Billy Hill of Mountain View, Ark.; four sisters, Doris White and Linda South, both of Decatur, Janet Lackey of Moulton and Joyce Carter of Henderson, Tenn.; 22 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

David L. Lambert
80, retired cook

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for David L. Lambert, 80, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Chambers officiating.

Burial will be in Lawrence Cove Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Lambert died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born April 27, 1920, in Mississippi. He retired as a cook from Redstone Arsenal. He was a member of Point Mallard Church of Christ. He was a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Sisk Lambert; one stepson, Dwight Childers of Falkville; two sisters, Lucille Austin of Decatur and Beatrice McCurley of Hartselle; and two step-grandchildren.

James Gregory Littrell

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for James Gregory Littrell, 37, of Gulf Shores was to be today at 2 p.m. at Gulf Shores United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Sanders officiating and Bayview Funeral Home directing.

A graveside service will be Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Moulton Memory Gardens with Peck Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home.

Mr. Littrell died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at his home. He was born July 6, 1963, in Decatur to Bill Littrell and Caryl W. Littrell. He was a member of Gulf Shores United Methodist Church, a member of the Alabama Board of Realtors and a member of the Million Dollar Club. He was employed by Remax Realty Co. the past six years.

Survivors include his wife, Jean R. Littrell; two sons, William Bradley Littrell and James Kelly Littrell, both of Gulf Shores; his father of Gulf Shores; his mother of Hartselle; his stepmother, Wanda Littrell of Gulf Shores; one sister, Lisa Mitchell of Hartselle; one brother, Zachray Littrell of Birmingham; and his grandmother, Josephine Heflin Littrell of Moulton.

Memorials may be made to the Gulf Shores High School Scholarship Fund in memory of Greg Littrell at 645 Gulf Shores Parkway, Gulf Shores, AL 36547.

Toni Leigh Perry

Ms. Perry died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at her home. She was born April 12, 1970, in Kokomo, Ind., to Vickey Sue Keenum Rains and Lanny Ray Rains. She was a graduate of Decatur High School and a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Lani Sue Danielle Perry and Vickey Sue-Rae Goodpastor, both of Decatur; her parents of Decatur; one brother, William B. Redding of Hartselle; one sister, Dee Ann Redding Mason of Somerville; and her grandmothers, Laudell Rains of Geraldine and Jewel Keenum of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Rick Thompson, Wayne Sharp, David Snow, Tony Rains, Ervin Palmer and Bobby Finch.

Vona C. Simmons

ATHENS -- Funeral for Vona C. Simmons, 97, of Athens, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Billy Ross officiating.

Burial will be in Hesters Chapel Cemetery in Lester. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Simmons died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Oakwood National Healthcare in Lewisburg, Tenn. She was born Aug. 8, 1903, to Benjamin Coffman and Sytha Carwile Coffman. She was a lifelong resident of Limestone County, a homemaker and a member of Jackson Drive Church of Christ. She was the widow of Rufus O. Simmons and the mother of the late Etha Mae Simmons, Ella Wee Craine, Emma Jean Simmons and Allen David Simmons.

Survivors include one son, Addrick Simmons of Cleveland; five daughters, Esther Simmons Parsons of Lewisburg, Tenn., Evelyn Thompson of Columbia, Tenn., Eva Castleberry of Selma, Era Ross of Alachua, Fla. and Evie Vance of Buford, Ga.; and one brother, Herman Coffman of Shawnee, Okla.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Verne Waldrop
69, retired chemical operator

MOULTON -- Funeral for Verne Waldrop, 69, of Trinity was to be today at 2 p.m. at Elliott Funeral Home with the Rev. Jackie Shelton officiating.

Burial was to be in Moulton Memory Gardens.

Mr. Waldrop died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Eliza Coffey Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 11, 1931, in Lawrence County to Claude S. Waldrop and Myrl Key Waldrop. He was retired from Haliburton Chemical Co. as a chemical operator, and was a Baptist. Mr. Waldrop was the brother of the late Wendell Waldrop.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Dutton Waldrop; two sons, Steven Kenneth Waldrop of Moulton and Alan Wendell Waldrop of Columbia, Tenn.; one daughter, Charlotte Jan Brewington of Moulton; two sisters, Joyce Jeffreys and Judy Henry, both of Moulton; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Wayne Key, Jimmy Waldrop, Burles Jeffreys, Steven Waldrop, Lewis Washburn, Billy Brewington and Joseph Brewington.

Gladys Irene Whaley

Mrs. Whaley died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at her home. She was born Jan. 7, 1914, in Alabama to Asa Swann and Myrtle Armstrong Swann. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one stepson, Verlon Whaley of Decatur; and one stepdaughter, Bernie Dean Herfurth of Cullman.
