Ada Ruth Barnes
75, homemaker
ATHENS -- Funeral for Ada Ruth Barnes, 75, of Athens was to be today at 11 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Bobby Marks and Eddie Gooch officiating.

Burial was to be in Sandlin Cemetery.

Mrs. Barnes died Monday, April 23, 2001, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. She was born Aug. 24, 1925, in Morgan County. She was a homemaker and a member of First Independent Methodist Church. She was the widow of William Ed Barnes Sr.

Survivors include five sons, Lloyd Lane, Johnny Lane, Billy Barnes, Jack Barnes and Bobby Barnes, all of Athens; four daughters, Ann Brown, Edna Gee, Becky Barnes and Barbara Goode, all of Athens; one brother, Zeno Dugger of Athens; one sister, Doris Daniel of Anderson; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Troy Bivens, Brad Gee, Chad Drake, Wayne Atchley, Bill Marks and Philip Dotson.

Grandsons were to be honorary pallbearers.

Earnest Boy

BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Funeral for Earnest Boy, 90, of Hartselle, formerly of Bluff City, Tenn., will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Rockhold United Methodist Church in Bluff City with the Rev. Randy Hensley officiating and Akard Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Weavers Cemetery in Bristol. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home and after the burial at 1235 Riverside Road in Bluff City.

Mr. Boy died Monday, April 23, 2001. He was born Nov. 30, 1910, in Sullivan County, Tenn. He was the widower of Frances Brown Boy.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Boy of Gahanna, Ohio, and Rick Boy of Decatur; two daughters, Mary Jane Huggins of Seffner, Fla., and Wanda Boy of Hartselle; three sisters, Blanche Robert of Apollo Beach, Fla., and Susie Vance and Colleen Hatcher, both of Bluff City; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Lucille Hawkins
79, retired home economist

COLLINSVILLE -- Funeral for Lucille Hawkins, 79, of Rockingham, N.C., will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Vernon Baptist Church with Collinsville Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Bristow Cemetery. The body will be at the church two hours before the service.

Miss Hawkins died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at First Health Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham. She was born Oct. 16, 1921, in Collinsville to Emmitt and Maureen Hawkins. She was a member of Vernon Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school. A graduate of Auburn University, she was known for her cooking skills and was the Morgan County Extension Service home economist from 1948 until her retirement in 1979.

Survivors include one sister, Hazel Hagler of Rockingham.

Katie Thrasher Hill
93, homemaker

Funeral for Katie Thrasher Hill, 93, of Moulton will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Deen Sims officiating.

Burial will be in Liberty Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hill died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born June 26, 1907, in Chalybeate to Luther Thrasher and Vasti Gillespie Thrasher. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of Berea Baptist Church. She was the widow of Minor Russell Hill.

Survivors include four sons, Holt Hill of Decatur, Hoyt Hill and Dwight Hill, both of Moulton, and Vonder Hill of Caddo; three daughters, Valerie Landreth of Troutman, N.C., Joyce Turner of Moulton and Gayle Adams of Washington, N.C.; one sister, Lucille Richburg of Austin, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Grandsons and nephews will be pallbearers.

Nathan Allen 'Big Al' Burgess
37, Stein Industries employee
Funeral for Nathan Allen "Big Al" Burgess, 37, of Oakville was to be today at noon at Gibson's Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.

Burial was to be in Lindsey Cemetery with Sharpley Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Burgess died Friday, April 20, 2001, at his home. He was born July 10, 1963, in Moulton to Melvin Burgess Sr. and Annie Pearl Burgess. He was employed at Stein Industries.

Survivors include two daughters, Dominique Cunningham of Moulton and Charity Danielle Lord of Decatur; his father of Oakville; three brothers, Paul Pointer of Hartselle, Melvin Burgess Jr. of Opal and Christopher Burgess of Town Creek.

Cecil Dean Collins
82, Wood Reel retiree

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Cecil Dean Collins, 82, of Decatur will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Cyphers officiating.

Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Collins died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at South Morgan Health Care Center. He was born Jan. 19, 1919, in Morgan County to George Collins and Dosie Collins. He was the widower of Evie Mae Jackson Collins. He was a member of Decatur Baptist Church and was retired from Wood Reel in Hartselle.

Survivors include one half-brother, Lonnie Collins of Lacey's Spring; and two sisters, Lela Green of Cedar Lake, Ind. and Frances Smith of Clarksville, Tenn.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Robert M. Gholston
63, technician

Funeral for Robert M. Gholston, 63, of Landersville will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Town Creek First Baptist Church with the Rev. Lonnie Orr officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Town Creek Church Cemetery. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Gholston died Monday, April 23, 2001, at his home. He was born Aug. 12, 1937, in Lawrence County to Charlie Gholston and Cora Jackson Gholston. He was a technician for 14 years with the Alabama Department of Transportation in Lawrence County and a member of Town Creek First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Gholston; five sons, Paul Gholston of Muscle Shoals, Earl Gholston of Fayetteville, N.C., Sammy Gholston and James Gholston, both of Landersville and Anthony Bush of Moulton; two daughters, Priscilla Ann Gholston of Landersville and Annette Marie Gholston of Fayetteville, N.C.; one brother, Cecil Gholston of Decatur; one sister, Almetia Echols of Moulton; and 16 grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Billy James Kirby
67, coil mill operator

TRINITY -- Funeral for Billy James Kirby, 67, of Danville will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with Mike Nix officiating.

Burial will be in Enon Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Kirby died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born Oct. 20, 1933, in Lawrence County to James T. Kirby and Mavinee Kirby. He was a member of Midway Church of Christ and retired from Wolverine Tube, where he worked as a coil mill operator.

Survivors include his wife, Raynell Kirby; two daughters, Donna Montgomery of Moulton and Belinda Kirby of Danville; his stepmother, Julia Kirby of Decatur; two sisters, Lois Jones of Moulton and Julia Simms of Decatur; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Craig Blaxton, Rayburn C. Lindsey, Chris Hill, Shawn Hill, Chris Steeples, Roland Steeples, Jimmy Montgomery, and Ricky Lindsey.

J.E. Lee
86, retired insurance salesman

HUNTSVILLE -- Graveside service for J.E. Lee, 86, of Huntsville was to be today at 3 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery with Dr. Ralph Langley officiating and Laughlin Service Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Lee died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at his home. He was born Oct. 1, 1914, in Morgan County. He was a retired insurance salesman, a Baptist and the widower of Kathleen Callender.

Survivors include one son, Joseph E. "Joey" Lee III of Owens Cross Roads; two daughters, Nita Jan Parker of Decatur and Francetta Lee Anderson of Owens Cross Roads; and several grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 600 Governors Drive, Huntsville, AL.

Lindell Fairbanks West

76, insurance retiree

Memorial service for Lindell Fairbanks West, 76, of Chicago will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at New Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Brooksville with the Rev. Greg Standridge officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. West died Sunday, April 1, 2001, in Chicago. She was born Aug. 3, 1924, in Morgan County to John Fairbanks and Hudie Fairbanks. She was retired from Metropolitan Life Company of Chicago. She was the sister of the late Cleon Fairbanks, Clyde Williams, C.B. Fairbanks, Mrs. Dewey Houser and Lois Nichols.

Survivors include one daughter; two brothers, James D. Fairbanks of Priceville and Grover Williams Jr. of Athens; and one sister, Bethel Lewis of Miami.

Ollie Warren Bridges
85, retired farmer
HARTSELLE -- Graveside service for Ollie Warren Bridges, 85, of Falkville will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Johnson Chapel Cemetery in Danville with the Rev. Jeri Hunt officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Bridges died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Summerford Nursing Home. He was born Sept. 19, 1915, in Morgan County to Hickey Oliver Bridges and Eva Ethel Aldridge Bridges. He was a retired farmer and a lifetime member of the Methodist church.

Survivors include four sons; two daughters; and one sister, Laurene Rainey of Conyers, Ga.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Bernice Bryant
88, homemaker

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Bernice Bryant, 88, of Cullman will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Corinth West Baptist Church with Glenn Miller officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with Moss Service Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bryant died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Woodland Village Health Care. She was born Oct. 11, 1912, in Cullman County to Huel Oscar and Myrtis Buckalew Cruce. She was a homemaker and the widow of James Arthur Bryant.

Survivors include one son, Preston Bryant of Coosada; one sister, Ruby Taylor of Cullman; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Wilma Childers

Graveside service for Wilma Odell Childers, 80, of Hartselle will be today at 2 p.m. at Johnson Chapel Cemetery with Shelton Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Childers died Friday, April 27, 2001, at her home. She was born Feb. 21, 1921, to Dan Glenn and Cassie McDaniel Glenn.

Survivors include one son, Grady Childers Jr. of Hartselle; one daughter, Sarah Thompson of Hartselle; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.
