The Rev. Carl Edward Essmon
71, minister

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for the Rev. Carl Edward Essmon, 71, of Crane Hill will be today at 11 a.m. at Livingston Chapel United Methodist Church in Crane Hill with the Rev. George Creel and the Rev. William Prickett officiating.

Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Cemetery in Birmingham with Peck Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Essmon died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at his home. He was born Aug. 26, 1929, in Jefferson County to Elmer Carl Essmon and Jimmie Lindsey Essmon. A United Methodist minister, he served numerous churches in the North Alabama Conference. At the time of his death, he was minister of Lamon's Chapel United Methodist Church in Jasper.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanett Essmon; one son, Jamie Carl Essmon of Dodge City; two daughters, Brenda Kay Holloway of Hartselle and Vicki Jeanell Essmon of Locust Fork; one sister, Elizabeth Hasten of Hueytown; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Robin Johnson, Paul Campbell, Terry McCullar, David Nelms, Gaston Morris and Robert Williams.

Betha H. Evans
79, retired teacher

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Betha H. Evans, 79, of Athens will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Athens City Cemetery with Guy McDaniel and Doug Matlock officiating and Limestone Chapel Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Evans died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Athens Convalescent Center. She was born May 19, 1921, in Limestone County to Bivan Cleo Holt and Donna L. Holt. She was a retired teacher for Piney Chapel Elementary School and a member of O'Neal Church of Christ. She was the widow of Fred L. Evans and the sister of the late Ruby Nordin.

Survivors include one son, Michael Delane Evans of Tennessee; two brothers, Okley Holt of Athens and Pettus Holt of Houston; one sister, Mary Dee Mills of Athens; and two grandchildren.

Deacons of O'Neal Church of Christ will be pallbearers.

Charles William Ferguson
74, retired diesel mechanic

ATHENS -- Funeral for Charles William Ferguson, 74, of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Don Osborne, Tony Hudson and John Norman officiating.

Burial will be in Higgins Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Ferguson died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born April 20, 1927, in Limestone County to Lawrence Victor Ferguson and Mary Lindsay Ferguson. He was a retired diesel mechanic and a World War II Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine Lovell Ferguson; two daughters, Debbie Ferguson Lovell and Melba Ferguson Abrams, both of Athens; four brothers, Donald Ferguson of Florida, Dan Ferguson of Rogersville, and Billy Wayne Ferguson and Harold Ferguson, both of Athens; four sisters, Mary Elizabeth Black of Tanner, and Betty King, Shirley Ball and Peggy Williamson, all of Athens; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jason Ferguson, Samuel King, Roland Romine, Michael Ball, Larry Romine and Larry Douglas Lovell.

Danny M. Hembree
52, job setter and supervisor

ATHENS -- Funeral for Danny M. Hembree, 52, of Athens will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with the Rev. Hunky Blackwood and the Rev. Tommy Blackwood officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hembree died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Oct. 12, 1948, in Gadsden to Marvin F. Hembree and Versie Lona McBrayer Hembree. He graduated from West Point High School in Cullman in 1966. A Limestone County resident for 23 years, he was a job setter and supervisor at Delphi Automotive Systems for 24 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Hembree; three sons, Danny Michael Hembree, Kristopher M. Hembree and Anthony M. Hembree, all of Athens; two daughters, Dionne M. Hembree of Huntsville and Tabotha Ann Reed of Clarksville, Tenn.; his father of Cullman; one sister, Sue Carol Hembree of Athens; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jackie Lovell, Jeff Legg, Mike Turka, David Hembree, Heath Hembree and Jay Hembree.

Delphi employees will be honorary pallbearers.

Albert D. Hughes
83, retired farmer

ATHENS -- Funeral for Albert D. Hughes, 83, of Elkmont will be today at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Terry officiating.

Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery.

Mr. Hughes died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Sept. 25, 1917, in Limestone County to Tom and Mag Hughes. He was a Baptist and a retired farmer.

Survivors include his son, Stanley A. Hughes of Elkmont; one sister, Evie Anderson of Sundown, Texas; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Charles Clem, Randall Tyler, Daniel Jewell, Don Jewell, Mike Johnson and Morris Jewell.

James 'Jim' W. Lowery
96, retired farmer, merchant

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for James "Jim" W. Lowery, 96, of Danville will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Lowery died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born Jan. 5, 1905, in Lawrence County to Lawrence M. Lowery and Dessie Lee Aldridge Lowery. He was a retired farmer and merchant and a member of Enon Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Nell Harrison of Hartselle and Jean Sterling of Danville; one brother, Henry Lowery of Danville; three sisters, Geneva Elrod of Athens, and Myrtie Stover and Laverne Key, both of Danville; and 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 12 great- great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Lowell N. Standridge
90, retired shipbuilder

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Lowell N. Standridge, 90, of Decatur will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. John White and the Rev. Jimmy McDougle officiating.

Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery off Mud Tavern Road with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Standridge died Friday, April 27, 2001, at his home. He was born May 15, 1910, in Pine Ridge, Ark., to Issac Newton Standridge and Mary Ann Bates Standridge. He attended Austinville Church of God and was a retired shipbuilder for Ingalls Iron Works in Decatur.

Survivors include two daughters, Josephine Sain and Melba S. Dutton, both of Decatur; one sister, Pearl Kyle of Decatur; three grandsons; three great-grandsons; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be Doyd Bracken, Cecil Cole, Joe Jenkins, Lucian McCulloch, Melvin Miller and Kenny Runager.

Annie Pearl Cox
74, homemaker
MOULTON -- Funeral for Annie Pearl Cox, 74, of Decatur will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Hugh Compton officiating.

Burial will be in Morris Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cox died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Dec. 7, 1926, in Lawrence County to Todd Pitt and Mary Jane Cartee Pitt. She was a homemaker and a member of Caddo United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Buford Cox.

Survivors include one son, Gary Cox of Moulton; one brother, Aaron Pitt of Tanner; one sister, Myrl Hames of Trinity; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Jacolby Garth
Infant

Graveside service for infant Jacolby Garth of Decatur will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Durell Strong officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

The infant died Thursday, April 26, 2001, the day of his birth, at Decatur General Hospital.

Survivors include his parents, Samuel D. Scruggs and Shunetta Garth, both of Decatur; three sisters, Alexis Garth of Belle Mina, and Zaria Rice and Victoria Garth, both of Decatur; his grandparents, Calvin and Doris Scruggs, and Ella Garth, all of Decatur; and John Goodwin of Belle Mina; and his great-grandmother, Beulah Garth of Huntsville.

Donald Hagood
53, salesman

MOULTON -- Funeral for Donald Hagood, 53, of Moulton will be today at 3 p.m. at Elliott Funeral Home with Darryl Wood officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens.

Mr. Hagood died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born Oct. 3, 1947, in Lawrence County to William Norris Hagood and Ruth Pounders Hagood. He was a salesman.

Survivors include one daughter, Julie Lee Troxler of Clanton, N.C.; his mother of Moulton; and two brothers, Kenneth D. Hagood of Moulton and Andy R. Hagood of Trinity.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Joiner, Harlon Joiner, Mike Smith, Danny Morris, Johnny Ray Morris and Harold Hatfield.

Billy Rance King
63, auto body repairman

MOULTON -- Funeral for Billy Rance King, 63, of Leighton will be today at 3 p.m. at Lighthouse Full Gospel Church with the Rev. Larry Wates officiating.

Burial was to be in Masterson Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing. The body will be in the church two hours before the service.

Mr. King died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Helen Keller Memorial Hospital in Sheffield. He was born Feb. 17, 1938, in Lawrence County to Lonnie and Etta King. He worked as an auto body repairman. He was the brother of the late Kermitt King.

Survivors include his wife, Sue King; one son, Jerry Cameron of Landersville; one daughter, Pam Terry of Mount Hope; two brothers, Horace King of Monticello, Ga., and Bob King of Conyers, Ga.; two sisters, Anna Lee White of Conyers and Jean King of Russellville; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bobby King, Kellie Smith, Brad Saint, Chris King, Jerry King, Jeremy Borden, Johnny Lee Borden and Mike Quillen.

John Overton McFarland
58, United Airlines agent

ATHENS -- Funeral for John Overton McFarland, 58, of Harvest will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Athens with the Rev. Steven Screws officiating.

Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens with McConnell Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. McFarland died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born July 11, 1942, in Monroe, N.C., to George B. McFarland and Emma McWhorter McFarland. He was a customer service agent for United Airlines, retiring in 1999 after 33 years.

Survivors include his wife, Diane June Ruther McFarland; one son, John Wesley McFarland of Harvest; one daughter, Heidi McFarland Preston of Huntsville; one brother, George McFarland of Camden, S.C.; one sister, Jimmie Goetze of Alexandria, Va.; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kirk Shanahan, Timothy Shanahan, Noah Wahl, Xerxes Wahl, John Wilkerson and Gene Carpenter.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
