Lois Green hill Sheats
81, Social Security retiree

Funeral for Lois Green hill Sheats, 81, of Decatur will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Albert Helton and the Rev. Arthur Rowe officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sheats died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at her home. She was born March 20, 1920, in Decatur to Arthur E. Green hill and Ethel Green hill. She worked at Social Security office in Decatur for 34 years and was a lifetime member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, John P. Sheats; one son, Wayne Sheats of Huntsville; one daughter, Jennie Rountree of Madison; one sister, Jean Petty of Lake City, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Marel Sheats, Ramon Royer, Clarke Rountree, Charles Dinsmore, Wilson Dinsmore, Charles Stone, John T. Sheats and Will Cloyd.

Lester R. Skinner
70, Skinner Machine co-owner

Funeral for Lester R. Skinner, 70, of Danville will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Hugh Bohlin officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Skinner died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born July 18, 1930, in Morgan County to Theodore R. Skinner and Ethel Brown Skinner. He was co-owner of Skinner Machine and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the National Guard for 34 years. He was a member of Cedar Ridge Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4190, American Legion Post 15 and Rising Sun Lodge 29.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Skinner; two sons, Wade Skinner and Mark Skinner, both of Danville; one daughter, Anita Skinner of Decatur; one sister, Juanita Brewer of Athens; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Craig Skinner, Jason Skinner, Patrick Sewell, Grady Widner, M.L. Cox and Brent Allen.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 250 Governors Drive, Huntsville, AL 35801, or the American Diabetes Association, 1101 N. Lake Destiny Road, Maitland, FL 32751-7105.

Earnest Steel
78, powerhouse operator

BIRMINGHAM -- Funeral for Earnest Steel, 78, of Morris, formerly of Danville, will be today at 1 p.m. at Gardendale Chapel with the Rev. Mack Carter officiating.

Burial will be in Oakwood Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Steel died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at his home. He was born Aug. 13, 1922, in Danville to Jack Steel and Fannie Mae Steel. He was a powerhouse operator for U.S. Pipe Co. in Birmingham. He was the widower of Olene Steel and the father of the late Roger Steel.

Survivors include three sons, Jerry Steel of Huntsville, and Ralph Steel and Charlie Steel, both of Morris; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

J. B. Harbin
80, farmer

ATHENS -- Funeral for J.B. Harbin, 80, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger W. Bowden officiating.

Burial was to be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Harbin died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Aug. 19, 1920, in Alabama to John Thomas Harbin and Nettie Rolan Harbin. He was a farmer and a stove company employee. He was a member of Clarksdale Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Harbin; six sons, George Bobby Harbin, Travis Harbin, Robert Harbin, Farron Harbin, Stevie Harbin and Cy Harbin, all of Athens; three daughters, Linda Pugh of Ardmore, and Barbara Jo Bright and Brenda Prater, both of Athens; three sisters, Lurener Williams, Carnell Newby and Louise Rogers, all of Athens; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Sons were to be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Grady Hays
80, General Motors retiree

Funeral for Grady Hays, 80, of Cullman will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Samuel Tucker and Earnest Auston officiating.

Burial will be in Moss Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hays died Monday, April 30, 2001, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born March 15, 1921, in Jefferson County to Enoch Hays and Rubtie Hays. He was a veteran of World War II and was retired from General Motors after 30 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Belle Auston Hays of Cullman; and two sisters, Cora Davis of Hartselle and Ruby Clem of Trinity.

Joseph 'Jack' McGowin
74, Compass Bank retiree

Funeral for Joseph "Jack" McGowin, 74, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Dunivant and the Rev. Sid McAnnally officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. McGowin died Monday, April 30, 2001, at his home. He was born Nov. 20, 1926, in Brooklyn to Everett McGowin and Josephine Johnston McGowin. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in World War II and the Korean War, where he received a Purple Heart. He had a law degree from The University of Alabama and worked at Compass Bank until retiring in 1986. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Martha McGowin; four daughters, Ellen Canada of Tupelo, Miss., Susan Hall of Crestview, Fla., Joan Hannan of Birmingham and Jill Maples of Huntsville; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Andy Holloway, Barry Holloway, Lamar Cushing, Stan Julian, Charlie Stephenson and Tommy Daniel.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Imogene B. 'Gene' McWilliams
67, retired social worker

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Imogene B. "Gene" McWilliams, 67, of Athens, was to be today at 2 p.m. at Athens City Cemetery with Curtis Coleman and Robert Murphree officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. McWilliams died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at her home. She was born May 6, 1933, in Limestone County to Butler Orlen Bailes and Grace Bowers Bailes. She attended Bethel School in Limestone County and graduated from Athens High. She attended Florence State Teacher's College and graduated from Athens College. She was retired from the Limestone County Department of Human Resources, where she served as a caseworker and supervisor of adult services.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Lee McWilliams Jr.; two sons, Robert Lee McWilliams III of Athens and Patrick Butler McWilliams of Decatur; one daughter, Anne Grace McWilliams of Dayton, Ohio; and two granddaughters.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County, P.O. Box 626, Athens, AL 35612.

Macie Ollie Tims Morgan
51, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Macie Ollie Tims Morgan, 51, of Hanceville will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Munford Baptist Church.

The body will be at the church one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Munford Hillcrest Cemetery in Talladega County with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Morgan died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at her residence. She was born June 1, 1949, in Talladega County to Grady Tims and Alma Sizemore Tims. She was a Baptist. A native of Talladega County, she was a homemaker and the sister of the late Kate Hughes, Russell Earl Tims and Edward Carson Tims.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Morgan; two sons, Bobby Duncan of Oxford and Tommy Duncan of Talladega; two daughters, Angela Nicole Evans of Auburn, Ga., and Shelia Marie Morgan of Hanceville; three brothers, Franklin Tims of Moody, Harold Tims of Jefferson, Ga., and Rodney Dale Tims of Talladega; four sisters, Dene Brown of Kennesaw, Ga., Fay Boswell of Oxford, and Brenda Tims and Evie Lackey, both of Munford; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Russell Boswell, Norman Duncan, Patrick Lackey, Hugh Lackey Jr., Rick Nichols and Roger Smith.

Mamie Lou Stanfield
83, homemaker

BOAZ -- Funeral for Mamie Lou Stanfield, 83, of Boaz will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Boaz Carr Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Brooks, the Rev. Welton Brooks, the Rev. Wallace Higginbotham and the Rev. Jimmy Wadsworth officiating.

Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stanfield died Monday, April 30, 2001, at her home. She was born Jan. 19, 1918, to Anderson Brooks and Allelouia Teal Brooks. She was a homemaker and an active member of New Home Baptist Church, where she worked as director of Vacation Bible School for 10 years. She played golf and was a member of Boaz Country Club. She also enjoyed traveling. She was married to her husband, Cecil Stanfield, for 62 years.

Other survivors include three daughters, Trecy McInnish of Douglasville, Ga., Patricia Drinkard of Hartselle and Iris Causey of Virginia; one sister, Nellie June Crosson of Boaz; and four grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers. Deacons of New Home Baptist Church will be honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the Friendship Cemetery Fund.

Leola Whitmire
83, Goodyear retiree

Funeral for Leola Whitmire, 83, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Grant officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Whitmire died Monday, April 30, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born April 4, 1918, in Scottsboro to Charles Bradford and Jimmie Bradford. She retired from Goodyear after 40 years of service.

Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Crumbley of Roswell, Ga.; one brother, Rice Bradford of Trinity; one sister, Marveline Bradford of Decatur; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bob Bradford, Bill Bradford, Dusty Bradford, Eddie Leonard, Robert Suggs and G.S. Parker.

Katlynn Rae Barnes
Infant

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Katlynn Rae Barnes, 4 weeks, of Athens, will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Poplar Creek Cemetery with Chris Goodwin officiating and Spry Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends Thursday from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Katlynn died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at her home. She was born April 3, 2001, in Athens.

Survivors include her parents, Scott and Kristina Barnes; two brothers, Nathan Barnes and Curtis Barnes, both of Athens; her twin sister, Haley Barnes of Athens; her grandparents, Troy and Linda Mansell of Athens, James Rollston of Tulsa, Okla., and Brenda Rollston of Hutchinson, Kan.; her step-grandmother, Rebecca Rollston of Tulsa; and her great-grandmother, Frances Rollston of Atlanta.

Malcolm Lee Fortner Jr.
22, construction worker

Funeral for Malcolm Lee Fortner, 22, of Decatur will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Duck River Cemetery in Cullman County. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Fortner died Monday, April 30, 2001, in Morgan County. He was born Nov. 25, 1978, in Cullman County to Elizabeth Winn and Malcolm Lee Fortner Sr. He was a home construction worker.

Survivors include his parents, Elizabeth Winn of Decatur and Malcolm Lee Fortner Sr. of Norwood, Mo.; two brothers, David Fortner Austin of Danville and Thomas Jefferson Fortner III of Decatur; three sisters, Shannon Austin and Jennifer Fortner, both of Decatur, and Amy Fortner of Russellville; and his grandparents, Joseph and Edna Manning of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Derrick Long, David Austin, Thomas Fortner, Greg Cook, Clinton Cook and Jerry Long.
