ATHENS -- Funeral for Ruby Gean Green , 76, of Athens will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Ron Owens officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Green died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at Athens Convalescent Center. She was born March 18, 1925, in Limestone County to Spurgeon and Verna Jackson. She was a retired bookkeeper at Athens Lingerie and a member of Central Church of Christ. She was the widow of Shelton Green and the mother of the late Dorothy Cribbs.

Survivors include two brothers, Bobby Jackson of Athens and Billy Jackson of Lester; two sisters, Lois Fain and Jack Brown, both of Athens; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.

Goldie M. Howell
72, homemaker

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. -- Funeral for Goldie M. Howell, 72, of Hendersonville, formerly of Decatur, was April 23 at Phillips-Robinson Co. Funeral Home with the Rev. Courtney Wilson and the Rev. Glenn Weekley officiating.

Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville.

Mrs. Howell died April 20, 2001, at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. She was born June 9, 1928, in Edenwold, Tenn., to Isaac Dixon and Callie Thomas Dixon. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband, James E. Howell Sr.; one son, James E. Howell Jr. of Hendersonville; two daughters, Becky Hill of Decatur and Cathy Rippeto of Nashville; one brother, Carl Dixon of Nashville; three sisters, Helen Reed, Judy Esperson and Ferrella Hennegar, all of Nashville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mark Robertson, David Vandenbergh, Chuck Reed, Donnie Ingram, Mike Ingram and Joe Ingram.

Members of the Howard High School Alumni Association were honorary pallbearers.

Fredrick Neal Pearson
42, U.S. Army veteran

Funeral for Fredrick Neal Pearson, 42, of Decatur will be Thursday at noon at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Benjamin Burt officiating.

Burial will be in Springhill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mr. Pearson died Monday, May 7, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Oct. 23, 1958, in Morgan County to Henry Fletcher and Mattie Pearson. A graduate of West Morgan High School, he joined the Army and served 15 years in the United States and Germany. He was a member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Fredrick Neal Pearson Jr. of Bessemer; one daughter, Dara Shenyse Pearson of Bessemer; four brothers, Harold Pearson, Michael Pearson and Nathan Fletcher, all of Decatur, and Nathaniel Fletcher of Somerville; and three sisters, Sharon Pearson of Decatur; Debra Perry of Louisville, Ky., and Beverly Gordon of Kokomo, Ind.

Pallbearers will be Dexter Wiggins, Earl Green , Eugene Cohn, Kenneth Henderson, Sam Byrd and Willie Steele.

Edith Marie Roberts
81, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Edith Marie Roberts, 81, of Hartselle will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Garnet officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Roberts died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born May 19, 1919, in Morgan County to Charley G. Brown and Martha Cora Dumas Brown. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Roy A. Roberts and David D. Roberts, both of Hartselle; two daughters, Lillian Abner and Lorean Simmons, both of Hartselle; one brother, Buel Brown of Massey; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and nine great- great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Marlon James, Ernie James, Leroy Abner, Willard Abner, Alan McCutcheon and Larry Roberts.

Hollis Forrest Cowart
78, retired welder
Funeral for Hollis Forrest Cowart, 78, of Danville will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Dewitt Crowe and the Rev. Don Crumpton officiating.

Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Cowart died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born March 13, 1923, in Morgan County to Sherman Cowart and Susie Walden Cowart. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Walden Chapel Baptist Church. He was a retired welder.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Rhodes Cowart; one son, Terry Cowart of Danville; two daughters, Sheila Cole of Decatur and Fay Morgan of Trinity; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jackie D. Cole, Andrew Cole, Keith Eddy, Kevin Long, Will Morgan and Thomas Holiday.

Henry Dayton Gooch
80, retired Yellow Freight driver

ATHENS -- Funeral for Henry Dayton Gooch, 80, of the Cross Key community of Limestone County, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with the Rev. Dewey Craft and the Rev. Doug McCurry officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Gooch died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born July 21, 1920, in Limestone County to William Benton Gooch and Minnie Octavia Leopard Gooch. He retired from Yellow Freight as a truck driver after more than 40 years. He was a well-known mechanic in the Cross Key Community and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was the brother of the late Thomas Gooch, the late Alvie Lee Gooch and the late Eunice Wooten Terry.

Survivors include five sons, Charles Gooch, Kent Gooch, Teddy Gooch and Dwight Gooch, all of Athens, and Ronnie Gooch of Elkmont; four daughters, Betty Campbell and Nell Smith, both of Athens, and Judy Conley and Vicky Story, both of Elkmont; one sister, Beulah Allen of Athens; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Barry Campbell, Paul Gooch, Dale Smith, Stephen Gooch, David Conley III and Joel Gooch.

Grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers.

Rosella O. House
86, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Rosella O. House, 86, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Arnold and the Rev. Don Stronglund officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. House died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Sept. 22, 1914, in Ohio to Perle Overhaltz and Marie Withrow Overhaltz. Her mother died when she was seven months old and she was raised by Lillian Withrow. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Cullman, a former Girl Scout leader and a homemaker. She was the sister of the late Daryl Overhaltz.

Survivors include her husband, H. Lloyd House; two daughters, Joyce Aldridge of Hartselle and Christina Kellogg of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one sister, Grace Dunkelburger of Somerville, Ohio; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Jeffrey Kenneth McBride
43, McBride Auto Parts employee

Funeral for Jeffrey Kenneth McBride, 43, of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with Mike Nix officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. McBride died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Sept. 21, 1957, in Morgan County to James "Jim" McBride and Jo Campbell McBride. He was a lifelong employee of McBride Auto Parts.

Survivors include his wife, Kim McBride; one son, Shannon McBride of Decatur; one daughter, Wendy McBride of Mobile; his mother of Trinity; four brothers, Calvin McBride and Mark McBride, both of Decatur, Dan McBride of Trinity and Matt McBride of Gadsden; and his grandmother, Annie Mae White of Greenville, S.C.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Parker, Greg Murphy, Ronnie Smallwood, Jimmy Brown, John Haynes, Benny Pointer, Darryl Breeding and Bob Davenport.

Emmett Milton 'Pete' Peterson
74, retired engineer

EL PASO, Texas -- Funeral for Emmett Milton "Pete" Peterson, 74, of El Paso, Texas, formerly of Decatur, was May 1 in El Paso with the Rev. Don Ciesielski officiating.

Burial with military honors was in Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Mr. Peterson died Saturday, April 28, 2001. He was born Sept. 4, 1926, in Lawton, Okla., to Emmett Peterson and Mable Peterson. He was a retired engineer and branch chief in the Missile Intelligence Agency at Redstone Arsenal. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Decatur, serving as a deacon and elder, and later attended Calvary Assembly of God. He was awarded the Silver Beaver by the Boy Scouts of America for work in their local program. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was awarded the Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal. He also served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1951 to 1954 and was awarded the Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal, U.N. Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Dye Peterson; two daughters, Polly Coleman of El Paso and Marsha Callis of Littleton, Colo.; two sons, Lance Peterson of Tallahassee, Fla., and Shawn Peterson of Panama City Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Orice Lunsford Wright
80, Ford Motor Co. retiree

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Orice Lunsford Wright, 80, of Falkville will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Falkville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Lovelace officiating.

Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Gardens in Gardendale with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Wright died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center Hospital. He was born March 28, 1921, in Morgan County to William Carye Wright and Nola Edwards Wright. He was a member of Falkville First Baptist Church and an Army veteran who served in the 81st Division at Fort McClellan in 1942 and 1943. He was the brother of the late Herman Wright, Lois Knight, Maggie Millwood and Ruth Woodall. He was a retired shop foreman from the Ford Motor Company.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Blankenship Wright; one stepson, Frank Smith of Hartselle; three step daughters, Gloria Yates of Gardendale, Martha Nelson of Falkville and Shelia S. Moore of Decatur; one brother, Gene Wright of Albertville; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Greg Chapman, Chad Chapman, Pat Smith, Roger Huntzinger, Larry Wright and Russell Wright.

Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandchildren and the deacons of Falkville First Baptist Church.

Denzil O. Burnett
71, truck driver and farmer
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Denzil O. Burnett, 71, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Slack officiating.

Burial will be in Center Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour before the service.

Mr. Burnett died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Northside Health Care Center in Murfreesboro. He was born Jan. 26, 1930, in Georgia to Roy Winfred Burnett and Gertrude Dutton Burnett. He was the father of Felecia Burnett. He was a truck driver and farmer.

Survivors include three daughters, Belinda Jones of Vinemont, Sharon Ross of LaVerne, Tenn., and Kim Lovett of Tennessee; three brothers, James Burnett of Danville, Julian Burnett of Decatur and Roy W. Burnett Jr. of Hartselle; two sisters, Jewel Roberts of Franklin, Ga., and Linda Houser of Addison; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Douglas Lavern Cunningham
77, retired U.S. Air Force

PRICEVILLE -- Military funeral for Douglas Lavern Cunningham, 77, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Priceville Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Holt and the Rev. Larry Trotter officiating.

Burial will be at Burningtree Memorial Gardens with military honors. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Cunningham died May 10, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Jan. 24, 1924, in Texas to Marvin Cunningham and Connie Weatherford Cunningham. He was a member of Arley Baptist Church and was a retired U.S. Air Force master sergeant.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnna Cunningham; one son, C.D. Cunningham of Decatur; one daughter, Piney Williams of Arley; four brothers, Grady Cunningham, Harold Cunningham, and Jimmy Cunningham, all of Texas, and Dale Cunningham of Colorado; three sisters, Edith Fenter, Betty Kate Sweger and Mary Ann Morgan, all of Texas; and three grandchildren.
