HARTSELLE -- Graveside service for James Clifton Helms, 58, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Herring Cemetery with the Rev. Matt Nail officiating.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at Peck Funeral Home.

Mr. Helms died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at his home. He was born May 9, 1943, in Morgan County to Ollie Helms and Lynette Jones Helms. He was the owner of Helms Heating and Cooling in Decatur for 22 years. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Pearlee "Pam" Helms; two sons, Tim Helms of Trinity and Toby Helms of Hartselle; five daughters, Tina Denny of Moulton, Jeanna Helms, Kim Helms and Candace Helms, all of Hartselle, and Pattie Helms of Decatur; two stepsons, Chuck McDonald and T.J. Jones, both of Hartselle; two stepdaughters, Christy Jones and Chassidy Jones, both of Shelbyville, Tenn.; one brother, Chester Helms of Falkville; and 10 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tim Helms, Toby Helms, Rick Denny, Chuck McDonald, T.J. Jones and Keith McNutt.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Vider 'Dolly' Yates Privett

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Vider "Dolly" Yates Privett, 85, of Kennesaw, Ga., and formerly of Blountsville, will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. F.W. Sheppard officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Winston County. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Privett died Thursday, May 10, 2001, in Kennesaw, Ga.

Survivors include one daughter, M. Fae Gibson of Kennesaw, Ga.; four sons, Kennith Privett, Wilson Privett and Carlton Privett, all of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Barney Privett of Vernon; two sisters, Dalphene Martin of Destin, Fla., and Irene White of Blountsville; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

James William Shabel
72, Pepsi franchise owner

CULLMAN -- Funeral for James William Shabel, 72, of Cullman will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Abbott Cletus Meagher officiating.

Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery with Moss Service Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Shabel died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Woodland Medical Center. He was born June 18, 1928, in Minnesota to John Shabel and Bridget Feia Shabel. He was owner of a Pepsi Cola franchise and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Gussie McWilliams Shabel; six sons, Rodger Shabel of Decatur, and Kevin Shabel, Terry Shabel, Tommy Shabel, Scotty Shabel and Jason Shabel, all of Cullman; one daughter, Deborah Tipton of Cullman; two sisters, Jeanette Unglebach of Michigan and Marylin Vustiack of Washington; and 17 grandchildren.

Pharo Campbell
87, retired schoolbus driver
TUSCUMBIA -- Funeral for Pharo Campbell, 87, of Town Creek will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Jessie Little officiating.

Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery with Thompson and Son Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mr. Campbell died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Shoals Hospital in Muscle Shoals. He was born Feb. 24, 1914, in Town Creek to George and Susie Campbell. He was a retired schoolbus driver for Lawrence County Schools and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Red Bank Masonic Lodge No. 332 and Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. He was the father of the late Gladys Jean Madden.

Survivors include six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Douglas Lavern Cunningham
77, U.S. Air Force retiree

PRICEVILLE -- Military funeral for Douglas Lavern Cunningham, 77, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Priceville Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Holt and the Rev. Larry Trotter officiating.

Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens with military honors. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Cunningham died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Jan. 24, 1924, in Texas to Marvin Cunningham and Connie Weatherford Cunningham. He was a member of Arley Baptist Church and a retired U.S. Air Force master sergeant.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnna Cunningham; one son, C.D. Cunningham of Decatur; one daughter, Piney Williams of Arley; four brothers, Grady Cunningham, Harold Cunningham and Jimmy Cunningham, all of Texas, and Dale Cunningham of Colorado; three sisters, Edith Fenter, Betty Kate Sweger and Mary Ann Morgan, all of Texas; and three grandchildren.

Arnell Betty Evans
71, Chrysler retiree

ATHENS -- Funeral for Arnell Betty Evans, 71, of Athens will be today at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery.

Mrs. Evans died Friday, May 11, 2001, at Athens Convalescent Center. She was born May 21, 1929, in Limestone County. She was retired from Chrysler and was a member of Community Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, George R. Evans; five sons, Dennis Evans of Taft, Tenn., Mike Evans and Gerald Evans, both of Madison, Johnny Evans of Ardmore and Moe Evans of Athens; one brother, Dwight Hargraves of Madison; one sister; Virginia Hargraves of Huntsville; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Evans, Mike Evans, Johnny Evans, Moe Evans, Gerald Evans and Dwight Hargraves.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Catherine Elizabeth Hardin
84, business co-owner

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Catherine Elizabeth Hardin, 84, of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Bill Irby officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hardin died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Limestone Health Facility. She was born June 22, 1916, in Piedmont to Samuel E. Morgan and Mary Burnham Morgan. She and her husband owned a grocery and meat market and a dry cleaners in Cullman. After moving to Athens in 1960, she was co-owner of Twin Cleaners, Dale's Barbecue and Hardin's San Ann. She retired in 1977. She was a member of RSVP and Hobbs Street Church of Christ. She was the widow of Jerome Mitchell Hardin.

Survivors include one daughter, Ann Whitt of Athens; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Edith B. Hargrove
83, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Edith B. Hargrove, 83, of Athens will be today at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Lowell Blankenship officiating.

Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends today from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hargrove died Friday, May 11, 2001, at Limestone Health Facility. She was born Aug. 29, 1917, in Limestone County to Claude and Florence Blakley. She was a homemaker and a member of Sunnyhill Church of Christ. She was the mother of the late Bobby J. Hargrove.

Survivors include her husband, A.H. Hargrove; three sons, Billy W. Hargrove, Tommy J. Hargrove and David S. Hargrove, all of Athens; one brother, James Blakley of Athens; one sister, Ruth Lovell of Athens; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Martha Rebecca Montgomery
86, homemaker

TRINITY -- Funeral for Martha Rebecca Montgomery, 86, of Chalybeate Springs will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with Mike Nix officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Montgomery died Friday, May 11, 2001, at National Healthcare in Moulton. She was born Aug. 8, 1914, in Lawrence County to Frank L. Goodlet and Belinda "Linnie" Goodlet. She was a homemaker, a member of Midway Church of Christ and a former member of Beltline Church of Christ. She was the widow of Harvey Montgomery and the sister of the late Henry Goodlet, Frank Goodlet, Milton Goodlet and Tommie Murphy.

Survivors include two sons, H. Jerome Montgomery of Winter Springs, Fla., and John Montgomery of Decatur; one daughter, Wanda Morgan of Chalybeate Springs; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Montgomery, Jerome Montgomery, Rayford Morgan, Tim Morgan, Mark Retherford and Willard Wilkerson.

Gladys Ozena Collins
73, homemaker
Funeral for Gladys Ozena Collins, 73, of Decatur will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Tandy Vaughn and the Rev. Michael Cassidy officiating.

Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Collins died Friday, May 11, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born June 28, 1927, to Jake Claridy and Rosie Stewart Claridy. She was a homemaker and a member of Autumnwood Baptist Church. She was the widow of James P. Collins.

Survivors include one son, the Rev. Orville Collins of Decatur; two daughters, Linda Gale Stewart of Trinity and Margaret Dale Barber of Decatur; one sister, Helen Hitt of Trinity; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Deacons of Autumnwood Baptist Church will be pallbearers.

James A. Hughes Sr.
72, retired textile worker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for James A. Hughes Sr., 72, of Hartselle will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Mack Carter and the Rev. Jamie Suggs officiating.

Burial with full military honors will be in Andrews Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 3 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Hughes died Friday, May 11, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born March 1, 1929, in Lawrence County to Clarence A. Hughes and Leatha Mae McCormick Hughes. A retiree of Huntsville Manufacturing Co. textile mill, he was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War. He was a member of Andrews Chapel Church, commander of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 11, and a member of American Legion Post No. 15 and VFW Post No. 4190. He was a member of a DAV/American Legion honor guard that served at the funerals of veterans.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Hughes; one son, James A. Hughes Jr. of Hartselle; one brother, Farris Hughes of Massey; one sister, Virginia Tyler of Decatur; and one grandchild.

Members of the DAV Chapter 11 will be pallbearers.

Festa Ware
86, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Festa Ware, 86, of Hartselle will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Walter Blackmon officiating.

Burial will be Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ware died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born April 24, 1915, in Morgan County to James and Maude Crutchfield. She was a homemaker and a member of East Highland Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Jim Ware of Madison and Brad Ware of Trussville; and four grandchildren.

Bobby Ray Winchester

TRINITY -- Funeral for Bobby Ray Winchester, 41, of Athens will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Calvin Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Dancey's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Winchester died Friday, May 11, 2001, at his home. He was born April 7, 1960, in Lawrence County to Joe Winchester and Ludan South Winchester. He was the brother of the late Dale Winchester.

Survivors include eight brothers, Danny Winchester of Trinity, Berlin Winchester, Charles Winchester and Michael Winchester, all of Moulton, Don Winchester of Hillsboro, Ricky Winchester of Madison, Willard Winchester of Clearwater, Fla., and Anthony Winchester; and two sisters, Martha Jo White of Moulton and Margie Wimbs of Town Creek.
