ARAB -- Funeral for Rose Watson, 87, of Arab and formerly of Valhermoso Springs will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Arab Memorial Chapel with Clint Coffey officiating.

Burial will be in Valhermoso Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Watson died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at her home. She was born Aug. 18, 1913, in Alabama. She was a member of Valhermoso Springs Christian Church. She was a homemaker and the widow of William Leslie Watson.

Survivors include one son, Gary Watson of Arab; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Sadie Garnett Barrett
91, homemaker
Funeral for Sadie Garnett Barrett, 91, of Decatur will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. William Compton officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Barrett died Friday, May 18, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born May 28, 1909, in Decatur to Arthur and Fannie Garnett. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Grace Baptist Church. She was the widow of Ray Barrett.

Survivors include two daughters, Joy Nicholson of Huntsville and Malinda Leopard of Somerville; two grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.

Deacons of Albany Baptist Church will be pallbearers.

Eugene Dudley Chittam
61, Monsanto retiree

ATHENS -- Funeral for Eugene Dudley Chittam, 61, of Athens will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Herbert Chittam and Bill Irby officiating.

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Chittam died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at his home. He was born Aug. 11, 1939, in Limestone County, to Alma B. Chittam. He was retired from Monsanto Chemical Co. and was a member of West Hobbs Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Chittam; two daughters, Teresa VanHoozer and Myra Collier, both of Athens; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Steven Rogers, Jimmy Rogers, Wes Isom, Billy Hardison, Dr. Ernie Hendrix and Dr. Jimmy Dunn.

Robert Franklin Ferguson
90, NASA retiree

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Robert Franklin Ferguson, 90, of Hartselle was Saturday at 10 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Frankie Sheats officiating.

Burial was in Faith Memorial Park.

Mr. Ferguson died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, in Hartselle Medical Center. He was born March 9, 1911, in Oklahoma to Matthew and Mary Ferguson. The longtime resident of Madison County was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired from NASA.

Survivors include three sons, Raymond Ferguson of Hartselle, Daniel Ferguson of Hazel Green and Robert Ferguson of Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Mary Lou Brown of Hartselle; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Elsie Grammer
90, homemaker

Graveside service for Elsie Grammer, 90, of Albuquerque, N.M., will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Truman Harris officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends Monday morning from 9 to 11 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Grammer died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, in Albuquerque. She was born in White County, Tenn., to Frank A. Johnson and Venie Norris Johnson. She was a former resident of Birmingham and lived with her son the past several years in Albuquerque. She was a homemaker and a Presbyterian.

Survivors include one son, Joe Grammer of Albuquerque; one sister, Elva Lou Johnson of Birmingham; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Doris Willodean Sapp Hembree
69, restaurant owner

HARTSELLE -- Graveside service for Doris Willodean Sapp Hembree, 69, of Somerville will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Johnson Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Harold Coomer officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hembree died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at her home. She was born March 15, 1932, in Lawrence County, to Howard Spinks Sapp and Eva Emmaline Ferguson Sapp. She was retired as owner of Dean's Restaurant in Somerville. She was the sister of the late Harold Sapp.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Keenum Williams of Somerville and Cynthia Keenum McElyea of Athens; one sister, Betty Hembree of Danville; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mabel Buckner Beasley Jackson
94, retired teacher

ATHENS -- Funeral for Mabel Buckner Beasley Jackson, 94, of Athens will be today at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with John M. Evans officiating.

Burial will be in Hatchett Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jackson died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Dec. 9, 1906, in Limestone County to John Clinton Buckner and Mary Jane Jackson Buckner. She was a member of Isom's Chapel United Methodist Church and retired after 38 years as a teacher in Limestone County.

Survivors include two daughters, Thelma Gwen Fowler of Tanner and Marilena B. Boyd of Louisville, Ky.; one stepdaughter, Jackie Ball of Arkansas; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Robert Lewter
63, Funland Park worker

Funeral for Robert Lewter, 63, of Decatur will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. David Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery with Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Lewter died Friday, May 18, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born May 21, 1937, in Morgan County to Leroy and Lillian Lewter. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and worked at Funland Park and Skate Castle for 29 years.

Survivors include two brothers, Roy Lewter and William Lewter, both of Decatur; and two sisters, Mary Borden and Louise Terry, both of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Jack Borden, Jeremy Bentley, John Puckett, Frank Allen and Stacy Terry.

Farrish 'Farro' Wade Walker

Funeral for Farrish "Farro" Wade Walker, 67, of Moulton will be Monday at noon at Freeman Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. H.N. Snodgrass officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Walker died Friday, May 18, 2001, at National Healthcare Center in Moulton. He was born Jan. 22, 1934, in Lawrence County to Earl Wilbur Walker and Drucilla McGahee Walker. He was a member of Freeman Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Survivors include two brothers, Earnest Walker of Moulton and Alexander Walker of Aliquippa, Pa.; and one sister, Mary Sue Walker of Moulton.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Brackins, Posey Gholston, Joe Jackson, Norman Sharpley, J.C. Jackson and Bill Walker.

William Leroy Bailey
58, welder

CULLMAN -- Funeral for William Leroy Bailey, 58, of Vinemont will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Williams-McCracken Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Woods officiating.

Burial will be in Etha Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Bailey died Monday, May 21, 2001, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 26, 1942, in Cullman to Paul L. Bailey Sr. and Gustie M. Smith Bailey. He was a welder. He was the brother of Jimmy Bailey and Peggy Hoffman.

Survivors include three brothers, Paul L. Bailey Jr., of Prattville, Johnny Cook of Cullman and Hassell Cook of San Diego; and two sisters, Carolyn Bailey and Mary Hoffman, both of Vinemont.

William Paul Christian
91, retired farmer

MOULTON -- Funeral for William Paul Christian, 91, of Town Creek will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Hatton Church of Christ with Charles Balcom and Howell Bigham officiating.

Burial will be in Ferguson Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Christian died Monday, May 21, 2001, at his home. He was born Aug. 11, 1909, in Lawrence County to William Franklin Christian and Emma Horton Christian. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Thrasher Christian; three sons, Norman Christian of Claremore, Okla., Joe Christian of Decatur and Kelley Christian of Moulton; four daughters, Doris Wallace of Moulton; Vaudrey Rucker and Jean Masterson, both of Hatton, and Joyce Mullican of Double Springs; one stepdaughter, Glenda Thrasher of Madison; one brother, Clydis Christian of Hatton; one sister, Maggie Christian of Hatton; 22 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Flossie M. Burdette
86, civil service worker

Graveside service for Flossie M. Burdette, 86, of Trinity will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., with Shelton Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Burdette died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at National Health Care of Moulton. She was born May 20, 1914, in Corinth, Miss., to Joseph Martin Pegg and Stevie Fortune Pegg. She was the widow of Herbert Pope Burdette and the sister of Bernice Droke and Estelle Pegg. She was a retired civil service worker.

Ezell Long
83, retired farmer

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Ezell Long, 83, of Anderson will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery with Mike Poff officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Long died Monday, May 21, 2001, at Hidden Acres Health Care. He was born Jan. 23, 1918, in Minor Hill, Tenn., to Gibson Long and Lota Hendrix Long. He was a retired farmer and a World War II Army veteran. He received two purple hearts. He was the widower of Beatrice Long.

Survivors include one son, Glendell Long of Anderson; three daughters, Ann Johnson of Cleveland, Ohio, Carolyn Romine and Beverly Ridgeway, both of Anderson; one sister, Mabel McCurry of Anderson; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Derek Ridgeway, Chris Barnes, Linton Romine, Chris Putman, Clinton Romine and Troy Hardaway.
