Alfred 'Al' Harston Glover
68, inventor

Memorial service for Alfred "Al" Harston Glover, 68, of Decatur was today at 10 a.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Ervin and Wymon Logan officiating.

Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Glover died Monday, May 28, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Oct. 26, 1932, in Cullman County to Oscar Glover and Edith Glover. A graduate of Boaz High School who attended Snead State College, he was an inventor and had more than 50 patents. He was a charter member of the Experimental Aircraft Association.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Carolyn Glover; sons, Gary L. Glover of Somerville, Dr. Gregory L. Glover of Knoxville, and Gregory Scott, Brent Scott and Jody Scott, all of Decatur; three brothers, Larry Mathews and Bobby Mathews, both of Boaz, and Verlon Glover of Reno, Nev.; two sisters, Shirley Ann Nolen of Huntsville and Wanda Kingsley of Albertville; and nine grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bill Cartee, Shelby Johnson, Walter Terry, Jerone Stewart, Bennie Griffin and Tye Watson.

Jessie William 'J.W.' Hagood
77, retired machinist

MOULTON -- Funeral for Jessie William "J.W." Hagood, 77, of Hatton was to be today at 2 p.m. at Okolona Baptist Church with the Rev. Elmer Fowler and Melba Wilson officiating.

Burial was to be in Ferguson Cemetery with Elliott Funeral Home directing. The body was to be in the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Hagood died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at his home. He was born June 17, 1923, in Lawrence County to Thomas Alber Hagood and Letha Ann Smith Hagood. He was retired as a machinist from the Tennessee Valley Authority, a member of Machinist Local No. 65, a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and a member of several genealogy societies. He was a lifelong resident of Hatton. He served as a deacon at Okolona Baptist Church since 1957 and was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served on the U.S.S. Guadaloupe.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Sue Johnson Hagood; one daughter, Jane Meacham of Hatton; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Joshua Kyle Locker
Infant

Private graveside service for infant Joshua Kyle Locker of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at East Lawrence Memorial Gardens with the Rev. John Clotfelter officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.

He died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, the day of his birth, at Parkway Medical Center.

Survivors include his parents, Kent Locker and Farrah Locker; one brother, Jacob Alexander Locker of Decatur; his grandparents, Don Privett and Marlene Privett of Decatur and John Locker and Rita Locker of Florence; and great-grandparents, Betty Privett of Tanner and Alice Berringer of Ellsworth, Wis.

Alva Frances Mabrey
91, retired inspector

NASHVILLE -- Memorial service for Alva Frances Mabrey, 91, of Nashville will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witnesses with Timothy Petie officiating and Phillips Robinson Co. directing.

Mrs. Mabrey died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Tennessee Christian Medical Center. She was born Feb. 25, 1910, in Sumter County, Tenn., to Joe Keene and Ida Mae David Keene. She was a retired garment factory inspector and mother of Maxie Mabrey.

Survivors include one son, Gene Rudolph Mabrey of Hartselle; two daughters, Dolores Dortch of Franklin, Tenn., and Martha Sue Petie of Riverview, Mich.; three sisters, Montra Denning, Elizabeth Rippey and Evelyn Mandrell, all of Portland, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Edna Frank McClendon
87, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Edna Frank McClendon, 87, of Cullman will be Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cullman with the Rev. Ron Reinhardt officiating.

Burial will be in Cullman City Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Friday at the church beginning at 1 p.m.

Mrs. McClendon died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Summerford Nursing Home.

She was born May 22, 1914, in Cullman County to Joseph Frank and Ella Zein Frank. She was a homemaker and member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was the widow of Arling McClendon.

Survivors include one son, Bob McClendon of Florette; one daughter, Carolyn Leonard of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, Henry Frank of Madison; two sisters, Emma Gay of Vinemont and Helen Harris of Cullman; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cullman.

Charley June Phillips Philpot
72, homemaker

ARDMORE -- Funeral for Charley June Phillips Philpot, 72, of Athens will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home with Jeff May and Carl Witty officiating.

Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Philpot died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born June 10, 1928, in Decatur to Charles Phillips and Clara Phillips. She was a homemaker and a member of Ephesus Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Benton Philpot; one daughter, Clara Ruth Andrews of Athens; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be James Kenneth Bobo, Kirk Bobo, Tom Hansen, Wilburn Green haw, Billy Young and David Burkhart.

Reg W. Pickens
71, farmer

MOULTON -- Funeral for Reg W. Pickens, 71, of Mount Hope will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Mitchell Memorial Rock Springs Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Rick Elrod officiating.

Burial will be in Rock Springs Cemetery in Mount Hope with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Pickens died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at his home. He was born March 3, 1930, in Lawrence County, to Auther Pickens and Lillian Roberson Pickens.

He was a farmer and was a member and elder of Mitchell Memorial Rock Springs Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Mount Hope Fire Department and served in the National Guard.

Survivors include his wife, Bert Pickens; one son, Randy Pickens of Mount Hope; one daughter, Brenda Hipps of Florence; three brothers, Hoyt Pickens of Jasper, Cecil Pickens of Norcross, Ga., and Gene Pickens of Mount Hope; three sisters, Willie Sue Side of Decatur, Winnie Counts of Mobile and Carolyn Mitchell of Muscle Shoals; and four grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Mitchell Memorial Rock Springs Presbyterian Church or Hospice of the Valley, 216 Johnston Street, Southeast, Decatur, AL 35601.

Foster Reyer
91, retired farmer

ARDMORE -- Funeral for Foster Reyer, 91, of Ardmore will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Taylor-Ardmore Funeral Home with the Rev. Dalton Warden and the Rev. Ray Green officiating.

Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Reyer died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Lincoln Regional Hospital in Fayetteville, Tenn.

He was born July 17, 1909, in Limestone County to C.L. Reyer and Rossie Dollar Reyer. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include one son, Billy R. Reyer of Meridianville; one daughter, Doris Key of Fayetteville; one brother, Alton Reyer of Ardmore; two sisters, Estelle Reyer of Ardmore and Alma Patterson of Fayetteville; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Jenkins, Kenneth Swinford, Rick Arnold, J.C. Beech, Thomas Cross and Joel Davis.

Doris Jean Slate
66, church nursery worker

Funeral for Doris Jean Slate, 66, of Decatur will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with Ray Gray officiating.

Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Ms. Slate died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born March 20, 1935, in Decatur to Garland Eugene Slate and Minnie Harp Slate.

She worked for nine years in the Ninth Street United Methodist Church nursery.

Survivors include her stepmother, Lola Slate of Anniston; and two sisters, Ilva Defenthaler of Trinity and Mary Grindrod of Pensacola, Fla.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Defenthaler, Marion Tucker, Roy John Defenthaler, Marshall Tucker, Gar Defenthaler and Brandon Hubbard.

Margaret Jeanne Ahlders
66, homemaker
Funeral for Magaret Jeanne Ahlders, 66, of Decatur will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Sandra Locke-Godbey officiating.

The family will receive friends Saturday from noon to 2 p.m.

Mrs. Ahlders died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at her home. She was born Aug. 17, 1934, in Illinois to Andrew Provo and Arla Williams Provo. She was a homemaker. She was the mother of the late Joyce Ann Provo and the sister of the late Andrew Provo, Bob Provo, Rick Provo, Clarence Provo and Ronnie Provo.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Ahlders; three sons, Frank Ahlders of Tulsa, Okla., Donald Ahlders of Laporte, Ind., and Dennis Ahlders of Hillsboro; two daughters, Diane Stanfield of Somerville and Melanie Cronmiller of Antioch, Calif.; four brothers, Tom Mason of Daytona Beach, Fla., Mel Provo of Portland, Ore., John Provo of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Jim Provo of St. Louis; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

C.J. Hawkins
60, farmer

Funeral for C.J. Hawkins, 60, of Oakville will be Saturday at noon at Gibson Chapel Methodist Church in Oakville with the Rev. Robert Yarbrough officiating.

Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery with Sharpley Funeral Home directing. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Hawkins died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born Sept. 9, 1940, to Willie Hawkins and Mae Ollie McDaniel Hawkins. He was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Cardella Griffin; two daughters, Rose Sheppard and Carlanda Griffin, both of Oakville; one son, Cecil Sheppard of Oakville; three brothers, James Hawkins of Decatur and Willard Hawkins and John Wayne Hawkins, both of Huntsville; four sisters, Peggy Hawkins and Barbara Hawkins, both of Oakville, Rachel Hawkins of Decatur and Shirley Hawkins of New York; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Randy Brackin, Thurman White, Jerry Williams, Clifford Sheppard, Nathan Taylor and Charles Cunningham.

Danny Eugene Hill
53, Saturn employee

ARDMORE -- Funeral for Danny Eugene Hill, 53, of Ardmore, Tenn., will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Taylor and the Rev. Robert White officiating.

Burial will be in Hatchett Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hill died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Crestwood Hospital in Huntsville. He was born Nov. 18, 1947, in Limestone County to Jack and Eular Hill. He worked for Monsanto in Decatur for 17 years. He was also employed at Delphi Saginaw Steering Systems and most recently at Saturn in Spring Hill, Tenn. He was a member of the Spring Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Hill; one daughter, Wendy Workman of Toney; four brothers, Leon Hill of Ardmore, Charles Hill of Decatur, and Dwight Hill and Jackie Hill, both of Athens; six sisters, Delanie Wilson of Addison, Dorothy Newton of Anderson, Lillie Posey of Toney, Kathy Perry of Franklin, and Sadie Croley and Katherine Carwile, both of Athens; two granddaughters.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Posey, John Sharp, Michael Hill, Greg Mcallister, Rodney Newton and Zachary Beegle.
