TANNER -- Funeral for Myrtha Lee Banks, 77, of Athens will be Saturday at noon at the New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Tanner with the Rev. John Jude officiating.

Burial will be in Polly Malone Cemetery with Peoples Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Banks died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born March 5, 1924, in Limestone County to the Rev. Alex Houston and Emma Gracy Houston. She was a retired candy factory worker.

Survivors include one son, Gene A. Banks of Boston; three daughters, Frances Mayberry of Athens, Loretta Kirk of Chicago, and Emma Grigsby of Boston; four brothers, Alexander Houston, Fred Houston and Lewis Houston, all of Athens, and David Houston of Detroit; six sisters, Elois Jackson, Gracie Harris and Kathryn Malcolm, all of Athens, Corine White of Detroit, Sarah Snow of Chicago and Annie M. Barker of Decatur.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

James 'Ike' Drinkard
79, World War II veteran

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for James "Ike" Drinkard, 79, of Danville will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. David Smith officiating.

There will be a military graveside service at Oden Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Drinkard died Monday, June 11, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born Jan. 1, 1922, in Morgan County to Thomas Drinkard and Eliza Oden Drinkard. He was a disabled World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include one son, Hyland Drinkard of Hartselle; three daughters, Judy Veal and Jean Freeman, both of Priceville, and Cathy Pannell of Danville; one brother, Monroe Drinkard of Hartsville, S.C.; one sister, Dorethea Tidwell of West Point; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Glenn Byrum, Jerry Drinkard, Chris Faulk, Timothy Henry, Greg Morris and Mac Crowe.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Allen Cecil Hawkins
47, carpenter

TRINITY -- Graveside service for Allen Cecil Hawkins, 47, of Trinity will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at East Lawrence Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Kenny Rogers officiating and Parkway Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hawkins died Monday, June 11, 2001, in Lawrence County. He was born July 21, 1953, in Lawrence County to James Cecil Hawkins and Irene Barnett. He was a carpenter and a member of Calvary Tabernacle Church in Moulton.

Survivors include his wife, Hollie Hawkins; two sons, Darrell Hawkins and Cody Hawkins, both of Trinity; one daughter, Amanda Hawkins of Trinity; his mother of Trinity; his stepfather, Newt Barnett of Trinity; his sister, Lisa Hagood of South Carolina; his half-brother, Perry Barnett of Trinity; and two half-sisters, Teresa Morgan and Pam Ritchie, both of Trinity.

Pallbearers will be Ray Murphy, Noe Guzman, Wendell Hill, Clayton Reed, Ramiro Saenz Jr. and Ramiro Saenz Sr.

Terry Lynn Hill
35, Bunge Corp. operator

Funeral for Terry Lynn Hill, 35, of Decatur will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at New Song Family Church with Les Jones and B. Kay Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Hill died Monday, June 11, 2001, in Lacey's Spring. He was born April 24, 1966, in Hartselle to Danny Hill and Linda Hill. He was an operator at Bunge Corp. and a member of New Song Family Church.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Welch Hill; three daughters, Ashley Nicole Hill, Bridget Elise Hill and Rebekah Lynn Hill, all of Decatur; and his parents of Lacey's Spring.

Pallbearers will be Adam Hill, Joey Whitehead, Adam Whitehead, Brad Wheatley, Greg Wheatley and Jim Vinson.

Mary Lawson Jared
81, homemaker

ELBA -- Funeral for Mary Lawson Jared, 81, of Elba and formerly of Decatur, will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Hayes Funeral Home with the Rev. John I. Baxter officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Elba. The family will receive friends Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jared died Friday, June 8, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital in Augusta, Ga. She was born June 10, 1919, in Danville, Va. She was a homemaker, the widow of W.F. Jared and the mother of JoAnn Ryan. She was the sister of Clyde Lawson Jr. and Theleska Nordquist. She moved from Guntersville to Elba in 1988, where she was an active member of the Elba United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son, John Michael Jared of Elba; one daughter, Bettie Grejda of Evans, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Gene Raphael Teal
60, trucking company manager

Funeral for Gene Raphael Teal, 60, of Decatur will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Rollins officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery with Roselawn Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Thursday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Teal died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Dec. 13, 1940, in Morgan County to Benjamin Franklin Teal and Effie Gertrude Newton Teal. He was a 1958 graduate of Decatur High School and a graduate of The University of Alabama. He was a member and elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church, and he was an operations manager at Yellow Freight Corp., where he worked for 20 years.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Ann Teal; one son, Gene Raphael Teal Jr. of Decatur; one daughter, Viva Elizabeth Teal of Decatur; one stepson, James Walter Poole Jr. of Eutaw; one stepdaughter, Shirley Poole Hulsey of Decatur; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Roy Edward Shaw, Marion Luke Cates, Knox Larry McRay, Thomas William Biles, James D. Barrett, Joel Lynn Haney, Emmette Lee Barran Jr. and J.N. Templeton.

Charles Dustin White
16, Hatton High School student

MOULTON -- Funeral for Charles Dustin White, 16, of Town Creek will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Sims and the Rev. Charles Williams officiating.

Burial will be in King Cemetery with Elliott Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. White died Monday, June 11, 2001, in Lawrence County. He was born April 19, 1985, in Lawrence County. He was a student at Hatton High School.

Survivors include his parents, Greg White of Hatton and Lisa Parrish of Florence; two sisters, Kesha White and Ashley White, both of Hatton; his grandmother, Sue White of Speake; and his grandparents, Charles and Ruth Dawson of Town Creek.

Pallbearers will be Shannon Mizell, Chris Overton, Cedric Dawson, David White, James Parrish and Tyrel Byars.

Antonia Francene Young-Polk
34, secretary

DECATUR -- Funeral for Antonia Francene Young-Polk, 34, of Speake will be Thursday at noon at Bethleham Primitive Baptist Church in Hillsboro with the Rev. Samuel Green officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Memorial Gardens in Decatur with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Young-Polk died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at The University of Alabama Hospital at Birmingham. She was born Oct. 1, 1966, in Decatur to the Rev. Johnny James Young Jr. and Frances Ann Sykes Young. She graduated from East Lawrence High School in 1984 and attended the University of North Alabama in Florence. She was a dispatcher supervisor at the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department for 10 years and was a secretary for the Lawrence County Drug Task Force. She was a member of Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Polk; one stepson, Chadrick Gholston of Speake; her parents of Hillsboro; one sister, Felicia Key of Courtland; her grandparents, Thomas Sykes and Gurnice Sykes, both of Hillsboro, and Johnnie and Ellen Young of Courtland.

Pallbearers will be Lawrence County Sheriff's Department deputies. Flower girls will be members of the East Lawrence High School Class of '84.

Thomas Wilburn 'Willie' Beasley
77, Browns Ferry retiree
ATHENS -- Funeral for Thomas Wilburn "Willie" Beasley, 77, of Lester will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. James Turner officiating.

Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Beasley died Wednesday, June 13, 2001. He was born Aug. 15, 1923, in Limestone County. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. He worked at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant until retiring. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was the widower of Blanche Bailey Beasley.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas Sandlin Beasley and Bart Bailey Beasley, both of Lester; one daughter, Glory Beasley Daly of Athens; six brothers, John Clayton Beasley of Athens, Robert C. Beasley of Tuscumbia, Aubrey Beasley of Rogersville, Herman Beasley and Doyle Beasley, both of Lester, and Joel Beasley, both of Athens; four sisters, Clara McConnell of Anderson, Lucille McConnell of Lester, Mary Sigler of Elkmont and Martha McConnell of Athens; and one granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Daly, Kenny Chenoweth, Phillip Beasley, John Paul Beasley, Jimmy Wales, and Jay Beasley.

Marian Juliet 'Pudden' Carter
68, homemaker

Funeral for Marian Juliet "Pudden" Carter, 68, of Decatur will be Saturday at noon at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. John Z. Gray officiating.

Burial will be in Sterrs Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Carter died Monday, June 11, 2001, at The University of Alabama Hospital at Birmingham. She was born Dec. 16, 1932, in Morgan County to Burl Carter and Annie Sue Wilson Gray. She was a member of Springhill Baptist Church, where she was president of the senior choir. She was a member of the missionary society, secretary of the building fund and a member of the mothers' board. She was a graduate of Decatur Negro High School Class of 1951. She retired in 1985 from General Electric Telephone Corp. in Huntsville. She was a homemaker. She was the stepdaughter of the late Neeley Gray of Decatur.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Prince of Hillsboro and Rodney Carter of Decatur; five daughters, Patricia Evans, Tonia Davenport and Elyce Lane, all of Decatur, Yolanda Collier of Hillsboro, and Jovita Carter of Birmingham; three brothers, Walton Gray of Hillsboro, Council Gray of Bridgeport, Conn., and Leo Gray of Decatur; one sister, Emma G. Jackson of Denver; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Deacons will be pallbearers.

Lucille Neal Foster
92, retired seamstress

ATHENS -- Funeral for Lucille Neal Foster , 92, of Athens, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Lauderback officiating.

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Foster died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at her home. She was born Nov. 27, 1908, in North Carolina. She was a retired seamstress and a member of West Highland Baptist Church and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She was the widow of Drue Neal and Brown Foster and the mother of the late Helen Pack.

Survivors include one son, Billy Neal of Athens; three daughters, Sue Neal Mackle of Birmingham, Sandra Neal Marks of Athens and Janice Neal Burrough of Madison; one brother, Eugene Graybeal of Ashe County, N.C.; three sisters, Edna Milam of Lambertville, Mich., Ina Mae Oates of Winston Salem, N.C., and Pearl Graybeal of Lancaster, Pa.; one half-brother, Bill Graybeal of Indiana; and one half-sister, Kate Rice of South Carolina; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Neal, Dave Mackle, Robbie Burrough, Jerry Lawler, Rodney Marks and Neal Vickers.

Pearlie L. Holaway
86, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Pearlie L. Holaway, 86, of Eva will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Miller and the Rev. Tim McCormick officiating.

Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Peck Funeral Home.

Mrs. Holaway died June 13, 2001, at her home. She was born Oct. 14, 1914, in Morgan County to Thad Z. Holmes and Nancy Hill Holmes. She was a member of Union Hill Freewill Baptist and a homemaker.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be George Holmes, James Holmes, Charles Long, Donnie Long, Odean Long and Harold McCormick.
