ATHENS -- Funeral for Edward Dale Dean, 61, of Huntsville will be today at 3 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Dean officiating.

Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends today from 1:30 to 3 at the funeral home.

Mr. Dean died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at his home. He was born Feb. 28, 1940, in Lexington, Tenn., to George Jackson Dean and Ludie LouElla Wilburn Dean. He was an analyst at The University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Survivors include one son, Todd Bentley Dean of Atlanta; two daughters, Lauren Nicole Dean of Huntsville and Coleen Dean of Atlanta; three brothers, Charles Dean of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Bill Dean of Nashville and Don Dean of Athens; one sister, Jo Ann Rochester of Athens; and two grandchildren.

Frank W. Duvall
69, mechanical technologist

PRICEVILLE -- Funeral for Frank W. Duvall, 69, of Hartselle will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Priceville Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Redfern officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Duvall died Friday, June 15, 2001, at DCH Regional Hospital in Tuscaloosa. He was born July 10, 1931, in Lawrence County to Walter Duvall and Ida Coffee Duvall. He was retired from 3M as an advanced mechanical technologist and was a member of West Hartselle Baptist Church. He was a Mason and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances Duvall; one son, Jon Duvall of Atlanta; one daughter Francine Patterson of Montgomery; one sister, Wanda Terry of Courtland; and four grandchildren.

James W. Hall
63, U.S. Army retiree

LILLINGTON, N.C. -- Funeral for James W. Hall, 63, of Lillington will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at O'Quinn- Peebles Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Morris officiating.

Burial will be in Harnett Memorial Park. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hall died Thursday, June 14, 2001, in Harnett County. He was born July 29, 1937, in Rockingham, N.C. He was retired from the U.S. Army. He was father of the late Gennis Nelson.

Survivors include his wife, Tamae Hall; one son, James W. Hall Jr. of Decatur; three daughters, Diane H. Byrd of Raleigh, N.C., Tammy Hall of Apex, N.C., and JoAnne Davis of Lillington; one brother, Carl Hall of Missouri; one sister, Doris Paschall of Castalia; and four grandchildren.

Jennie Knapp Horton
92, homemaker

Graveside service for Jennie Knapp Horton, 92, of Falkville will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. Shelton Funeral Home is in charge of the local arrangements.

Mrs. Horton died Friday, June 15, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born March 21, 1909, in Atlanta to Francis B. Knapp and Madge Lawshe Knapp. She was a homemaker and a resident of Summerford Nursing Home.

Survivors include one son, Francis "Frank" Horton of Decatur; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Thornwell Orphanage, P.O. Box 60, Clinton, SC 29325, or a favorite charity.

Hural Alexander 'Alex' Jones Sr.
89, farmer

ATHENS -- Funeral for Hural Alexander "Alex" Jones Sr., 89, of Toney will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Isom Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Barry Dunn, the Rev. Buel Cladney and the Rev. Tim Keenum officiating.

Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery with Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Jones died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at his home. He was born Aug. 28, 1911, in Madison County to Shelby Jones and Hattie Ferguson Jones. He was a member of Isom Chapel United Methodist Church for 64 years and served as a steward, director and Sunday school director. He was a member of AARP and the Joy Club. He was a farmer and worked for the Limestone County Commission as a bus driver. He also worked for Teledyne Wah Chang. He was the brother of the late Clinton Jones, Shields Jones and Mary Swanner.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy Williams Jones; two sons, Hural A. Jones Jr. of Toney and Dr. David Jones of Athens; two daughters, Vera J. Aurich of League City, Texas, and Dr. Annette Jones of Miami Beach, Fla.; three brothers, J.W. Jones of Chattanooga, Chester Jones of Athens and Aaron Jones of Mount Pleasant, Tenn.; four sisters, Edna Heard of Toney, Gladys Swanner of Athens, Pearl Broadway of Madison and Louise Reyer of Ardmore; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Grandchildren will be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Athens or Isom Chapel United Methodist Church building fund.

Joseph 'Joe' Cloyce Pence
43, Martin's Tire foreman

Graveside service for Joseph Cloyce Pence, 43, of Hardinsburg, Ind., will be today at 10 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Jim Bodine officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends today after the service at the home of Barbara Henderson.

Mr. Pence died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at North Audubon Hospital in Louisville, Ky. He was born Feb. 6, 1958, in Dickson, Tenn., to William Ralph Pence and Cornelia Otte Pence. He attended St. Ann Catholic School and Austin High School, and he attended St. Ann Catholic Church. He was a foreman with Martin's Tire and Recovery in Hodgensville, Ky., and was vice president of the Hardinsburg Lions Club. He was the brother of the late William Otte Pence.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Durbin Pence; two brothers, James Pence of Somerville and Simeon Pence of Hamilton; and three sisters, Barbara Ann Henderson, Patsy Cathcart and Mickey Pence, all of Decatur.

Memorials may be made to Hardinsburg Lions Club, c/o of Hardinsburg Community Building, Highway 150, Hardinsburg, IN 47125, or to St. Ann Catholic Church's building fund, 250 Johnston St. S.E., Decatur, AL 35601.

Judson C. Pheny Sr.
86, Decatur Utilities retiree

Funeral for Judson C. Pheny Sr., 86, of Hartselle will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Irving Himmel and the Rev. Gary Patton officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30 to 3 at the funeral home.

Mr. Pheny died Friday, June 15, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born April 16, 1915, in Marshall County to Amos Huger Pheny and Lula Belle Dickson Pheny. He worked for Alabama Water Service Co. in Mobile from 1941 to 1947 and went to work for Decatur Utilities in 1948. He retired from DU in 1983. He was the widower of Kathryn C. Pheny.

Survivors include one son, Judson C. Pheny Jr. of Hartselle; one daughter, Susan P. Smith of Hartselle; one brother, Edward Pheny of Decatur; two sisters, Nell Cagle and Carolyn Bishop, both of Albertville; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Grimes, Fred Harville, Barry Hampton, David Vest, Inaki Corta and Scott McClanahan.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity.

James Paul Scott

ADDISON -- Funeral for James Paul Scott, 69, of Addison was Monday at Bethel Baptist Church in Newton.

Burial was in the church cemetery with Nichols Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Scott died June 6, 2001, at his home. He was born June 14, 1931, in Alabama. He served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Cecile Scott; one son, Ray Lee Scott of Cullman; one daughter, Sharon Scott of Lannon, Wis.; three brothers, Edsel Scott of Altouna, Fla., Ted Scott of Chattahoochee, Fla., and Mack Scott of Umatilla, Fla.; one sister, Edna Teffertiller of Mineral Point, Mo.; and four grandchildren.

Alfred H. Sims
82, TVA security captain

CENTER STAR -- Funeral for Alfred H. Sims, 82, of Rogersville will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Elkins East Chapel Funeral Home with David Gregg officiating.

Burial will be in Civitan Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Sims died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence. He was a World War II veteran and received numerous honors for bravery. He worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority Public Safety Service for 33 years and retired as a captain.

Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte White of Anderson and Pat Bobo of Florence; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jim Stark, B.J. Bobo, Jeremy McCravy, Jeff McCravy, Mike McCravy and Sammy Crosslin.

Robert Gratton Toohey
76, business executive

TACOMA, Wash. -- Memorial service for Robert Gratton Toohey, 76, of Federal Way, Wash., will be Monday at 4 p.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church.

Mr. Toohey died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at his home. He was born April 10, 1925, in Sioux Falls, S. D., to Gratton Toohey and Mary Ellen Toohey. He lived in Decatur from 1970 to 1974 and was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church. He attended Creighton University and the University of Notre Dame and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He had a 30-year career as an executive for a baking company; he and his wife worked together in the real estate business for 20 years in Federal Way. He was affiliated with the Federal Way Symphony and Federal Way Chorale, and was a supporter of disabled and needy people.

Survivors include two sons, Bob Toohey of Federal Way and Daniel Toohey of Minneapolis; five daughters, Kathy Hardin, Elizabeth Crow, Sara Troupe and Jennifer Chaves, all of Tacoma, and Mary Alice Ostby of Kenosha, Wis.; four brothers, Pat Toohey, Gerald Toohey and Con Toohey, all of Tacoma, and Richard Toohey of California; and four sisters, Mary Margaret DeLorenzo of Tacoma, Alice Huewe of Springfield, Mo., Catherine Handzlik of West Bend, Wis., and Jeanne Green of Madison, S.D.

Alice Elizabeth 'Lib' Winton

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Alice Elizabeth Winton, 75, of Somerville will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Vandon Windsor and Gary Dobbs officiating.

Burial will be in Center Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Winton died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Jan. 25, 1926, in Morgan County to O.T. Sharp and Lillie Johnston Sharp. She was a homemaker, a member of Center Springs United Methodist Church and a resident of Sunshine Haven in Hartselle. She was the widow of Calvin V. Winton.

Survivors include one son, Vaughn Winton of Somerville; one daughter, Lazelle Wright of Danville; two brothers, Tim Sharp and Johnny McCutcheon, both of Somerville; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Winton, Mike Dobbs, Mike McCutcheon, Bobby Sharp, Phil Lane and Larry Allen.

Opal Lillie Bolan
70, retired inspector
CAMDEN, Tenn. -- Funeral for Opal Lillie Bolan, 70, of Camden will be today at 3 p.m. at Chalk Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Gary Greer, Adam Allen and Glen Smallwood officiating.

Burial will be in Chalk Hill Cemetery with Stockdale-Malin Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.

Mrs. Bolan died Friday, June 15, 2001, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. She was born Aug. 29, 1930, in Eva to Orbin Childers and Loil Smith Childers. She was a former nurse's aide and a retired inspector for Henry I. Seigel. She was a member and church secretary at Chalk Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She was the mother of the late Susan Renee Bolan, Michael Steven Bolan and Cecil Eugene Bolan and the sister of the late Almond Childers.

Survivors include one son, Alan Bolan of Camden; two daughters, Ann Stoner of Camden and Diane Long of Hartselle; two brothers, Wayne Childers and Larry Childers, both of Oden Ridge; five sisters, Magalene Graves, Carolyn Oden and Wilda Pouzar, all of Vinemont, Iree Kinney of Oden Ridge and Marzell McLennon of Michigan; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Betty Jane Boyd
68, saleswoman

HICKORY, N.C. -- Funeral for Betty Jane Boyd, 68, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory with the Rev. Brent Dula and the Rev. Kim Fox-Dowell officiating.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6 to 8 at Roselawn Funeral Home and Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.

Mrs. Boyd died Friday, June 15, 2001, in Huntsville. She was born May 1, 1933, in Hickory. She was employed in sales by Steed Furniture and Roselawn Cemetery. She was a member of the Elks Club and Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas D. Boyd and David W. Boyd, both of Decatur; three brothers, Charles Witherspoon and Harry Witherspoon, both of Hickory, and Bob Witherspoon of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Brenda Fox of Hickory; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
