Allen Richard Riggs
88, retired U.S. Navy civil service worker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Allen Richard Riggs, 88, of Athens will be Friday at 9 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Dan Binkley officiating.

Graveside service will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Georgiana. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Riggs died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at his home. He was born May 2, 1913, in Escambia County, Fla. He was a retired civil service worker for the Pensacola Naval Air Station. He was a member of Marion Street Church of Christ. He was the brother of the late Robert A. Riggs and the late Lois Fowler.

Survivors include his wife, Marian Riggs; one daughter, Kathryn Wiser of Athens; two sisters, Helen Cherry and Nellie Henderson, both of Pensacola; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be James Allen Wiser, John Walton, Max Holland, Buddy Kuettner, Landy Raley and Jimmie Hambrick.

Memorials may be made to Athens Bible School.

Nellie Turner Webster
61, homemaker

Funeral for Nellie Turner Webster, 61, of Hartselle will be Friday at noon at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Woods and the Rev. Donald Clem officiating.

Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery at Elkmont. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Webster died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born April 7, 1940, in Athens to Oscar Turner and Geneva Collins Turner. She was a member of Old Time Holiness Church. She was the widow of Charles Webster and the sister of the late Aubrey Turner and Elmer Turner.

Survivors include three sons, Rick Webster of Moulton, Mike Webster of Elkmont, and Dale Webster of Prospect, Tenn.; one daughter, Kathy Webster of Hartselle; four brothers, Nolen Turner and Will Turner, both of Fayetteville, Tenn., and Marshall Turner and Wayne Turner, both of Athens; three sisters, Nora Osborne of the Thatch community, and Audrey Living and Emma Hardiman, both of Elkmont; and five grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Galier Louise Bailes
69, homemaker
ARDMORE -- Funeral for Galier Louise Bailes, 69, of Ardmore, Tenn., will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Sammy Brister officiating.

Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bailes died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Sept. 9, 1931, in Limestone County to Shields Culps and Leona Culps. She was a homemaker and a member of Ardmore First Baptist Church. She was the widow of Clayton Bailes and the sister of Virgil Culps, Terrell Culps and Harold Culps.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Bailes of Athens and Randy Bailes of Decatur; one daughter, Sandy Clark of Toney; two brothers, Kenneth Culps of Ardmore and Eugene Culps of Michigan; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Bennie B. Bartlett
64, Redstone Arsenal retiree

TANNER -- Funeral for Bennie B. Bartlett, 64, of Madison will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Peoples Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Lockett Sr. officiating.

Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Bartlett died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at his home. He was born Jan. 23, 1937, in Limestone County to Charlie Bartlett and Susie Bartlett. He was retired from Redstone Arsenal.

Survivors include two sons, Nick Lockett of Madison and Tyrone Long of Tanner; two daughters, Tina Sales Young of Huntsville and Lisa Long of Tanner; and two brothers, R.C. Bartlett and Earl Williams, both of Nashville.

Elizabeth Dobbs Seibert
91, retired school cafeteria manager

Graveside service for Elizabeth Dobbs Seibert, 91, of Decatur will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. R.A. Reinhardt officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 9:30 to 11 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Seibert died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Nov. 6, 1909, in Morgan County to Roy Dobbs and Mattie Dobbs. She was a retired cafeteria manager at Gordon-Bibb Elementary School. She was the widow of William C. "Willie" Seibert and the mother of William D. Seibert.

Survivors include one son, David R. Seibert of Decatur; two sisters, Euvie Arney of Indianapolis and Agnes McConnell of Memphis; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Seibert, Tommy Seibert, Jim Dobbs, Eric Parker, Aran Parker and Jerry Parker.

Cynthia Glenn Shirley

Graveside service for Cynthia Glenn Shirley, 80, of Decatur will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with the Rev. Buddy Champion officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Shirley died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at her daughter's home in Huntsville. She was born Feb. 5, 1921, in Decatur to Charlie Glenn and Kate Glenn.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Decatur and a graduate of Decatur High School and Auburn University. She was the widow of Dewitt Shirley and the mother of Cynthia Ruth Shirley.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Shirley and Jim Shirley, both of Marietta, Ga.; three daughters, Susan Browning of Montgomery, Laura Percer of Huntsville and Margaret Wiginton of Warrior; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Glenn, Sonny Glenn, Ralph Glenn, Rusty Wiginton, Buddy Glenn and James Browning. Memorials may be made to Wheeler Basin Regional Library, First Baptist Church of Decatur or Hospice Familycare, 2225 Drake Ave., Suite 8, Huntsville, AL 35803.

Marietta Vaupel Williams
77, garment plant inspector

ATHENS -- Funeral for Marietta Vaupel Williams, 77, of Athens will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Williams died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Aug. 15, 1923, Nashville, Tenn., to William Henry Vaupel and Mina Hunter Vaupel. She worked as a garment inspector for Athco and was a member of the Church of Christ. She was the widow of George O. Williams Sr. and the mother of Stephen Boyd Williams.

Survivors include one son, George O. Williams Jr. of Athens; one daughter, Sherry Williams Goode of Montgomery; one brother, Charles Vaupel of Franklin, Tenn.; one sister, Marguerite Pruett of Nashville; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be Todd Williams, Cory Goode, Cayce Williams, Dick Pruett, Nick Williams and Stephen Williams.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Athens-Limestone Kidney Association.

The Rev. Billy Jack Barr
69, retired United Methodist minister
TUSCUMBIA -- Funeral for the Rev. Billy Jack Barr, 69, of Decatur will be today at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Leighton with the Rev. Willis Vickery, the Rev. Belon Friday and the Rev. Clinton Buslor officiating.

Burial will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens with Colbert Memorial Chapel directing.

Mr. Barr died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at his home. He was born Nov. 11, 1931, in Alabama to Earl Owen Barr and Julia Phillips Barr. He graduated from Florence State University, now The University of North Alabama, in 1973. He served as a pastor in the North Alabama Conference, including the Isbell and Belgreen circuits, Roger's Chapel, Mount Tabor, Green hill, Leighton, Sandusky, Monte Sano, East Gadsden, Hazel Green , Winfield and Belle Mina. He was a member of the boards of United Methodist Children's Home and the Ordained Ministry North Alabama Conference. He was plant manager of Haleyville Textile Mill before entering the ministry. He was the 1995 Alumnus of the Year at Phillips High School in Bear Creek.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Inez Barr; one son, Billy Mark Barr of Green sboro, N.C.; two daughters, Donna Jo Johnson and Linda Carol Behel, both of Florence; two brothers, Olen Barr of Muscle Shoals and Paul Barr of Bear Creek; two sisters, Reba Tittle of Athens and Mamie Poe of Phil Campbell; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tim Carruth, Jimmy Carruth, Jerry Barr, Freddie Poe, Larry Barr, Nathan Beard, Brian Bates and Pete Bates.

Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Children's Home in Selma or Hospice of Morgan County.

Annie Bell Bingham
88, homemaker

Graveside service for Annie Bell Bingham, 88, of Decatur will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta with the Rev. Walter Schmidt officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Bingham died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born Feb. 4, 1913, in Screven, Ga. She was a homemaker and a member of Fairview Baptist Church. She was the widow of Thomas A. Bingham.

Survivors include one daughter, Beatrice Dutton of Hampton, Va.

Milton Carroll
48, electrician

HUNTSVILLE -- Graveside service for Milton Carroll, 48, of Decatur will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Eddie Bond officiating and Laughlin Service Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Carroll died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born June 24, 1952, in Troy to John Wesley Carroll and Mary Hargrove Carroll. He was an electrician for 20 years at Delphi-Saginaw Steering Systems.

Survivors include two sons, Chris Carroll and T.J. Carroll, both of Albertville; two brothers, Lonnie Carroll of Brandon, Miss., and Marshall Carroll of Mobile; and four sisters, Alice Carroll and Alline Pitera, both of Hammond, La., and Judy Carroll and Lisa Ann Clark, both of Huntsville.

Memorials may be made by donating blood and signing and carrying an organ donor card.

W.C. 'Dub' Downs
86, retired farmer

ATHENS -- Funeral for W.C. "Dub" Downs, 86, of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Green and the Rev. Dusty McLemore officiating.

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Downs died Friday, June 22, 2001, at his home. He was born Aug. 12, 1914, in Lauderdale County to George E. Downs and Mary Ettie Warren Downs. He was a retired farmer and a member of Round Island Baptist Church and Woodmen of the World. He was the widower of Elise Holmes Downs and the grandfather of the late Andy Downs.

Survivors include two sons, Chisolm Downs and Clellon Downs, both of Athens; three brothers, George Downs of Huntsville, Talmadge Downs of Decatur and C.D. "Von" Downs of Madison; three sisters, Velahree Marks and Robbie Evans, both of Athens, and Nella Russell of Huntsville; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bill Downs, Zeke Downs, Gary Downs, Ricky Downs, Larry Holmes and Roger Nelson.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.

Charles Edwin Johnson
57, retired mechanic

MOULTON -- Funeral for Charles Edwin Johnson, 57, of Town Creek will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Houston officiating.

Burial will be in Ferguson Cemetery in Hatton. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnson died Friday, June 22, 2001, at Montclair Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham. He was born Dec. 27, 1943, in Portland, Ore., to J.W. Johnson and Bernice Smith Johnson. He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church of Hatton and retired as a maintenance mechanic at Monsanto, now Solutia Inc.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Johnson; one son, Eddie Johnson of Town Creek; one brother, Rickey Johnson of Town Creek; one sister, Charlotte Whitlock of Town Creek; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Greg Wilson, Paul Johnson, Dempsey Johnson, Roger Parker, Alvah Massey and David Wilson.
