TANNER -- Funeral for Kent Lamar Kennemer, 36, of Milwaukee and formerly of Athens, will be Saturday at noon at Peoples Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Green officiating.

Burial will be in Poplar Creek Cemetery.

Mr. Kennemer died Sunday, July 1, 2001, in New Orleans. He was born Jan. 9, 1965, in Limestone County to Carlos Kennemer Jr. and Frances Kennemer. He was a factory worker.

Survivors include two sons, Kent Lamar Kennemer Jr. and Quentyn Lamar Kennemer, both of Milwaukee; one daughter, Sheneka Kennemer of Milwaukee; his parents of Milwaukee; one brother, Carlos Kennemer III of Athens; two sisters, Maria Kennemer and Tracy Kennemer, both of Milwaukee; and his grandmother, Ruth Cosby of Milwaukee.

James Woodrow Lawrence
67, retired plumber

ATHENS -- Graveside service for James Woodrow Lawrence, 67, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at New Salem Cemetery with Leslie Bagsby officiating and Spry Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Lawrence died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at his home. He was born April 15, 1934, in Giles County, Tenn. He was a retired plumber.

Survivors include two daughters, Regina Grba of Athens and Angie Castleberry of Birmingham; two brothers, J.T. Lawrence of Lester and Ozro Lawrence of Athens; four sisters, Lorene Hill of Lester, Adean Marlow of Elkmont and Beatrice Shedd and O.C. Guess, both of Athens; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Nephews were to be pallbearers.

David Crockett Malone
74, Rockford, Ill., Police Department and General Tire Co. employee

TANNER -- Funeral for David Crockett Malone, 74, of Athens will be Friday at noon at Peoples Funeral Home with the Rev. Galon Darvy officiating.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Rockford, Ill.

Mr. Malone died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Dec. 12, 1926, in Limestone County to Cecil Malone and Margaret Malone. He worked for the Rockford Police Department and General Tire Co.

Survivors include six sons, David Cecil Malone of Athens, Eunice Bowman of Arkansas, Jerry Bowman of Wisconsin, and Calvin Bowman, Sylvester Bowman and Eddie Bowman, all of Rockford, Ill.; two daughters, Cecelia Bowman and Glenda Bowman, both of Rockford; two sisters, Maggie Malone of Athens and Ethel Avery of Sheffield; 33 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Weldon Erion Norton
64, construction worker

FLORENCE -- Funeral for Weldon Erion Norton, 64, of Killen and formerly of Town Creek, was to be today at 2:30 p.m. at Elkins East Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Jones and the Rev. Randy Carter officiating.

Burial was to be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Norton died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 7, 1936, in Italy, Texas, to Claud and Zelma Norton. He was retired from Carbine Construction Co. and served in the Army Reserves. He was a member of Center Star Baptist Church. He was the brother of Coy Norton and Allen Norton.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice "Bea" Norton; one son, Michael Norton of Rogersville; three daughters, Penny Thomas of Pennsylvania, Beverly Hanes of Russellville and Dena Jones of Killen; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were to be Rusty Carbine, James Carbine, Gordon Conner, Lee Handley, Greg Harrison and Walt Daniels.

Annie 'Pearlie' Owens
70, retired Dairy Queen worker

Funeral for Annie "Pearlie" Owens, 70, of Trinity will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with Mike Nix officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Miss Owens died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at her home. She was born Feb. 16, 1931, in Limestone County to Medie Max Owens and Lennie Rouse Owens. She was a member of Midway Church of Christ and was retired from Dairy Queen of Decatur.

Survivors include three sisters, Rosie Lee Hannah of Decatur, and Bessie Martin and Anna Cottingham, both of Trinity.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Cottingham, Wallace Cottingham, Jamin Cottingham, Scott Cottingham and Jason Cottingham.

Annie Laura Rutherford
83, homemaker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Annie Laura Rutherford, 83, of Decatur will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Mount View Baptist Church with the Rev. Sam Wallace and the Rev. Michael Cassidy officiating.

Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery in Moulton with Lawrence Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Rutherford died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Nov. 17, 1917, in Mississippi to Paul Ayers and Ellie Dooley Ayers. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount View Baptist Church. She was the widow of Clyde Rutherford. She was the mother of Bobby "Tootsie" Rutherford, Clyde Waymon Rutherford and Edward Laverl Rutherford, and the sister of Curtis Ayers and P.J. Ayers.

Survivors include six sons, Larry P. Rutherford, Burl Rutherford and Steve Rutherford, all of Caddo, Ray Rutherford of Hartselle, Randall Rutherford of Danville and Ronnie Rutherford of Hillsboro; three daughters, Carolyn Sams of Trinity, Jeanette Blasingame of Decatur and Joyce Engle of Hillsboro; three brothers, Mayburn Ayers and James Ayers, both of Decatur, and Emmett Ayers of Russellville; one sister, Ruby Graham of Pekin, Ill.; 25 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Rita Faye Riner Turney
41, sales representative

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Rita Faye Riner Turney, 41, of Hartselle will be Friday at 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Riner officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Turney died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at her home. She was born July 14, 1959, in Morgan County to Benford H. Riner Sr. and Betty Young Riner. She was a member of New Hope North Baptist Church. She was a magazine sales representative for CRI in Decatur.

Survivors include her parents of Hartselle; and one brother, Junior Riner of Hartselle.

Pallbearers will be Lee Kilpatrick, Mike Tucker, Joey Williams, Tim Dye, Jeff Dye, Lynn Butts and John Lott.

Virginia Ferguson Vest
85, homemaker

Funeral for Virginia Ferguson Vest, 85, of Decatur will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Mitchell Williams officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 2 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Vest died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, in Birmingham. She was born Oct. 29, 1915, in Lincoln County, Tenn., to Lon L. Ferguson and Emma Minor Ferguson. She was a homemaker and a member of Central United Methodist Church. She was the widow of George Wesley Vest.

Survivors include three nephews, Ken Kennedy and Doug Kennedy, both of Mobile, and Bill Powell of Decatur; and four nieces, Janet Dominick of Tuscaloosa, Peggy Kennedy of Birmingham, Pat Murrell of Athens and Kathryn Powell of Decatur.

Jessie Lee Whisenant
71, retired steelworker

Funeral for Jessie Lee Whisenant, 71, of Decatur will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenard Devaney officiating.

Burial will be in Raper Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Whisenant died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Jan. 10, 1930, to Willie Whisenant and Florence Whisenant in Lawrence County. He was a retired steelworker.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Whisenant; two sons, Lanny Whisenant and Barry Whisenant, both of Decatur; four brothers, Glenn Whisenant of Decatur, Talmadge Whisenant of Hamilton, and Hoyt Whisenant and Herman Whisenant, both of Moulton; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Ruby L. Appleton

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Ruby L. Appleton, 66, of Falkville will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home.

Mrs. Appleton died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Aug. 29, 1934, in Morgan County to Charles Oscar Helton and Ethel Lee Gore Helton. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, Roger Sides of Falkville; two brothers, Charles Helton of Grand Bay and George Helton of Georgia; and two sisters, Dean Wyatt of Calera and Frances Turney of Cold Springs.

Cecil 'Bud' Cupp
83, retired transportation manager

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Cecil "Bud" Cupp, 83, of Decatur will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Moss Service Funeral Home with the Rev. David McDonald officiating.

Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Wadsworth, Ohio. The family will receive friends one hour before services at the funeral home.

Mr. Cupp died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born March 9, 1918, in Cullman County to Asa Cupp and Essie Dial Cupp. He retired as a transportation manager for the Ohio Match Company.

Survivors include two sisters, Pat Vittore of Decatur and Grace Self of Cullman.

Mary Doris Gunner Evangelisti
70, homemaker

MEMPHIS -- Funeral for Mary Doris Gunner Evangelisti, 70, of Memphis, will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church with the Rev. Valentine Handwerker officiating and Canale Funeral Directors directing.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Evangelisti died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at her home. She was born June 30, 1931, in Tupelo, Miss., to Michael and Claudia Gunner. She graduated from Tupelo High School in 1949. She worked for Savings Oil Company in Tupelo as an assistant to the owner and president. After moving to Memphis, she was employed by Hohenberg Brothers Cotton Company in Memphis. She married A.J. "Tony" Evangelisti, a Memphis grocer. She was a homemaker and a communicant of the Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception and active with the Women of the Cathedral.

Survivors include her husband of Memphis; four sons, Joseph M. Evangelisti, Anthony J. Evangelisti, Michael T. Evangelisti and Raymond M. Evangelisti, all of Memphis, Tenn.; three daughters, Claudia E. Wills, Carolyn E. Edwards and Carla E. Alexander, all of Germantown, Tenn.; two brothers, Robert M. Gunner of Decatur and Mike H. Gunner of Tupelo, Miss.; six sisters, Joan G. Milam of Melbourne, Fla., Gloria G. Gaughf of Greer, S.C., Norma G. Nance of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; Mary Ann G. Snow of Atlanta, Ga., Claudia G. York of Easley, S.C., and Charlotte G. Rutherford of Tupelo, Miss.; and 14 grandchildren.

Mrs. Haraway died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born April 23, 1913, in Lauderdale County to Bart and Beatrice Gautney. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She was the widow of Allen Woodrow Haraway.

Survivors include two sons, Jackie Haraway of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Billy Haraway of Rogersville; one daughter, Virginia Williams of Athens; two sisters, Ila Brown and Allie Jones, both of Rogersville; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Michael Williams, Charlie Coffman, C.L. Jones, Earl Hendrix, Rusty Goode and Allen White.
